Blame It on the Mistletoe

Rate this book
When physics grad student Fielding Monroe and skirt-chaser and football player Mick Colman become college housemates, they’re both in for a whole new education. Mick looks out for the absent-minded genius, and he helps Fielding clean up his appearance and discover all the silly pleasures his strict upbringing as a child prodigy denied him. They become best friends.

It’s all well and good until they run into a cheerleader who calls Mick the ‘best kisser on campus.’ Fielding has never been kissed, and he decides Mick and only Mick can teach him how it’s done. After all, the physics department’s Christmas party is coming up with its dreaded mistletoe. Fielding wants to impress his peers and look cool for once in his life. The thing about Fielding is, once he locks onto an idea, it’s almost impossible to get him to change his mind. And he just doesn't understand why his straight best friend would have a problem providing a little demonstration.

Mick knows kissing is a dangerous game. If he gives in, it would take a miracle for the thing not to turn into a disaster. Then again, if the kissing lessons get out of hand they can always blame it on the mistletoe.

Having been, at various times and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a game designer, an organic farmer, an avid hiker, and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.

As an addicted reader of such, she is tinkled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens. All of them (except for the husband) are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest fiction writing.

4 adorkable stars. Review completed November 24, 2014

 photo oie_HAx7gAyDUU77_zpsd6699bc2.png

The thing about Fielding was, the other shoe always dropped eventually. Because Fielding was like a database. Nothing you ever said or did, or that anyone else ever said or did in Fielding’s presence, was not noted, scrubbed over carefully, hung out to dry, starched, and redelivered in a clear plastic bag sooner or later.

So…let’s drop the other shoe, then.

„I want you to teach me how to kiss,“ Fielding said in his most arrogant voice. It came out as a demand, like ‘Fetch me the lamp from the sideboard, wench.’

Mick is explaining to Fielding how to form the best snowballs...

I glowered at her.
"You poor bastard," Sam said. "Life can be so cruel."
"You're missing the point. I'm not gay."
Sam rolled her eyes to show her opinion of that. Then she thought about it. "Well, you've certainly been to bed with more women than any gay guy in history. Maybe you're into girls and boys, ever consider that? Maybe you're an equal opportunity employer. A switch hitter. A man of many moods. Like oysters AND snails."

After devouring Unwrapping Hank, I just had to download Blame It on the Mistletoe right away which turned out to be yet another engagingly penned, lovely, hilarious and fun Christmas novella by Eli Easton. By the way…what mistletoe? Blame it on Eli. She has these Christmas shorts down to a fine art. I loved both main characters, especially the adorkable Fielding. Love me some highly intelligent geek! Anytime.

I loved to see the inexperienced, sheltered and self-conscious Fielding open up. He practically thawed and lit up like a Christmas tree when he was with Mick. Well, and Mick, the ladies man, had a hard time taking the plunge and leaping over the fence straight into gay territory. I felt the urge to give him the final nudge…just…do it already! I liked how protective Mick felt about Fielding and he really did take good care of him.

My issues
Christmas stories are usually sweet and carefree and rightly so. So when Mick remembered a Long story short, something like that doesn't belong in a sweet Christmas novella.

And last but not least the author took a serious detour into Sapsville during the epilogue. It made my teeth hurt and I could have done without that. Thank you very much. Also, was it necessary to weave the Very romantic. Not.

Anyway, I don't intend to sound negative because I really did enjoy this quick read very much. A super quirky and super-duper cute Fielding who turned out to be very cool and sexy managed to put a silly smile on my face all the time. And Mick, the gorgeous jock, wasn't anyone to sneeze at either. It cannot be denied, these two guys formed a very special and gorgeous couple and I'm glad they got their happy ending. There's definitely something to be said about the friends to lovers theme. Extra thumbs up from moi. More please.

Recommended read.

Blame It on the Mistletoe is book one in the Blame It on the Mistletoe series by Eli Easton. This is a holiday M/M New Adult romance that I would classify as best friends to lovers. The first word that comes to mind with this book is delightful. I couldn’t help but to love these two. They were just completely adorable. I’m not even a huge nerdy hero fan but Fielding had me at hello!!! The entire book is told from Mick’s point of view.

Mick Colman needs a housemate to share the rent with. He’s not sure what to think when he first meets the genius child prodigy, Fielding Monroe. But they fast became best friends. Mick feels protective of Fielding. He helps him to eat healthier, gets him to start running, change up his wardrobe a little, and introduces him to all of his favorite movies. They are pretty much inseparable. Until Fielding asked him to teach him how to kiss.

nerdy male college student - Google Search

Fielding had been a child prodigy. He was a grad student at age nineteen. He had also missed out on so many of life’s experiences. Including a first kiss. With a department holiday party coming up, he wants to be prepared for the mistletoe. So who better to teach him how to kiss than the best kisser on campus.

two men jogging - Google Search

Mick is straight. He’s known for being a bit of a player. He’s never had a real relationship. He’s shocked when Fielding asks him to teach him how to kiss. There’s no way he can do that. But when he really thinks about it, the thought is oddly appealing.

two men kiss - Google Search

This was such an adorable story. Mick is so shocked at his own reactions to Fielding. And I think Fielding is about the most adorable man I’ve ever read about. He knows what he wants and has no hesitation asking for it. It even had the cutest epilogue. The book left me all giddy and I am so glad I added it to my holiday reading. The only reason it is only four stars is just that it was a very slow burn. My impatience wanted things to happen sooner. And because it was pretty short. I am definitely reading more of this author. Just a delightful little book.

.
Fielding....oh,where do I start with him? I just loved this boy. He's the ultimate Sexy geek. He's had a sheltered life and is very innocent....adorable!!

Now Fielding has a problem......
He's dreading one of his classes Christmas parties as he's convinced a certain girl is going to demand a kiss under the mistletoe and he's got no experience at all....see,totally innocent and adorable.
So he asks Mick to teach him how to kiss....

"I want you to teach me how to kiss,"Fielding said in his most arrogant voice. It came out as a demand, like fetch me the lamp from the side-board, wench

This was such a sweet read. One that left a smile on my face and my heart happy! I love friends to lovers stories, and these two guys were great!

Mick was an athlete, he was a ladies man, but now he’s focused more on school. His house-mate/best friend, Fielding, is a bit of a nerd. He’s got overprotective parents, he’s super smart and he’s a virgin. He’s also sweet and hilarious. I loved both of these guys. I love all the pre-kiss stuff, Mick teaching Fielding the normal things he missed out on. So cute.

It all starts with Fielding overhearing a cheerleader say that Mick has a reputation for being ‘the best kisser’ on campus. He gets the idea that Mick could teach him the mechanics of kissing. And once Fielding gets an idea in his head, he can be very persistent. Teaching Fielding to kiss is way different than anything else. Especially when Mick is starting to feel more than friendship for the guy.

I listened to this book in audio and I really enjoyed it. I wish it were longer and we got a little more heat between Fielding and Mick, but it was still a great read! I’ll definitely be picking up more by this author.

This was fun. Especially the first part of the story which I found so adorable.

I really liked Fielding and Mick as characters and I liked their friendship. I think it's great that the story is told from Mick's POV, because I love how he sees Fielding. Fielding is one of those nerdy, straightforward and naive types that I love reading about. And Mick is really great, too.

I have a couple niggles, though. Something we learn about Mick's past didn't sit well with me. There was no need for that at all. The second part of the story is rushed and the relationship development didn't feel entirely believable to me, but that's often the case with novellas. Oh, and I also wish this story was kisses only. 😊

Thank you for convincing me to read it, Elisa! 💕

This book... just wow. It made my heart do a twirl! Me so happy!

I read this on a 7 hour road trip in the car with my two very young kids and my husband and I STILL managed to keep a smile on my face, all thanks to the magic of this little story.

I heart geeks and virgins so hard so this was like delicious magical heaven. I could have used more but it was pretty much perfect. An awesome read for Christmastime or just any time you want to smile.

I WANT A FIELDING OF MY OWN PLEASE!!!!!!

Ok…I’m done.

I ADORED this book. I heart Eli Easton so hard. The sweetest freaking stories come out of that brain. I want to eat ‘em up.

Adorkable nerd.
Virgin.
Holy-fuck-I-guess-I’m-gay Jock.
Awesome girl sidekick.
Friends-to-lovers.

It’s like my uber-recipe for happiness!

Plus…CHRISTMAS!

And best of all…FIELDING!!!!!

The epilogue took it a tiny bit over the edge for me, and I wasn’t quite ready to swim in all that syrupy goo just yet. But aside from that, I lurved it!

(Question: This isn’t a Star Trek slash fic is it? It hit me in the epilogue when Fielding talks about his ratio of being right…I heard it exactly in Zachary Quinto’s Spock voice. In any case, Fielding is SO. MUCH. COOLER.)

I knew it.

I KNEW it.

Knew! It!

I MOTHER-CLUCKING KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fucking knew I was going to adore this book!

I frigging swallowed this candy cane coated Santa jizz load like it was peppermint mocha goodness finished with a Christmas jizz flavored cookie chaser.

How does this look exactly? See below.

Me afterwards:

So happy I popped my Eli Easton cherry with "Blame It On The Mistletoe"! (Can you believe I haven't read anything by her yet? Don't worry this shall be rectified very soon.)

The story is told from Mick Colman's POV, a junior at Cornell who got a adorably sweet geek (hot nerd alert!) for a roommate and later best friend, Fielding Monroe. Sweet, geeky, mega genius, skipped a couple of grades, nineteen year old Fielding.

*squeal* *sigh* *purr*

The writing is great. I'm a bit of a word slut (go figure!) And lines like this:

“Something hot rolled over in my stomach. It felt like uneasiness that maybe shared a condo wall with terror. And maybe arousal lived a couple of doors down.”

Makes me very happy.

Fielding wants to finally be kissed and he chooses his best friend for the job. Only thing is Mick is not gay...or is he?

And the first kiss? Let me quote Mick on this one:

"It was so...fuck. And it was...damn."

Add an adorable friends to lovers theme, peppered with peppermint mistletoe jizz...

...Christmas...a geeky twink who likes to try everything...that's a recipe for hotness.

Things get figured out fairly quickly, a HEA happens (which I am mostly rocking with because I did think it was a bit soon but I'm still caught up in the Santa jizz vapors so I'll not quibble too much) and now I'm squeeing majorly about this book. And not only is it a sweet read (not too sticky) but it is funny too!

I adore Fielding and his decisiveness. I loved Mick and his internal struggle. It felt organic. And the way their friendship changed. I really liked.

I've been invaded by Christmas feels.

And I couldn't be happier. 4.5 Stars and a Santa jizz load

Awwwww, I'm drowning in eggnog and sugar cookies. This was just super, super cute, very readable, and happy fuzzy all around.

Mick (ex-jock and nutrition/fitness guru) and Fielding (hot genius geek) are housemates at Cornell. They're also BFFs. When Fielding asks for kissing lessons, Mick is thrown for a loop. He's confused and, well, not gay, or is he?

Both guys were fairly well developed, and the book is well written. If all doubts are purged too easily, oh well, this is a novella, and the MCs are college boys after all, so going with the flow is a rule rather than an exception.

I love me a sappy HEA (it's my secret shame), and this one delivered much sparkle and gooey goodness, .

Also, and this isn't entirely relevant, BUT I have to get it out there: The model looks a lot like my little brother, no? Same tall, lean build, dark hair, insane blue eyes (he even wears geek glasses sometimes). Proof (why, yes, boys, he's single):

Blame It on the Mistletoe is one of the cutest, sweetest, hottest gay-for-you stories I’ve ever read.

It is my last book in 2015 and I'm delighted it proved to be a 5-star read.

As for the story, the blurb says it all.

Unique and adorable characters, brilliantly structured plot and romance, the best first kiss ever, deeply emotional erotic scenes.

I can’t recommend this book highly enough.

Re-read Feb. 2017 because this is warm and fluffy and full of feels. And I needed that today.

This was an absolutely delightful M/M romance that gave me butterflies in my stomach. Highly, highly recommended to the few who have not read it yet.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to raid Eli Easton's impressive library of M/M romances.

4 Stars - über super cute about a nerd and The Kiss, the unforgettable first one

There are so many warm adjectives that fit for this lovely Christmas story. Wonderful, tender, heartwarming and so very sweet about two college guys, a kiss and unexpected feelings.

~ Sometimes it feels as if I just pours out a lot of reviews here on goodreads about all these nice and sugary M/M romances. It appears again. ~

The women's charmer (infamous good kisser) and former football guy Mick gets a new tenant, the geeky genius, the wonderfully charming but quite inexperienced and innocent Fielding. They quickly become best friends and best buddies.
’Fielding was a strange dichotomy of arrogant genius and self-consious wallflower.'

But then one day ask Fielding (first nicely and politely) Mick (his new life masters) to teach and train him, Fielding, to be a good kisser, before this year's upcoming Christmas party and the dreaded mistletoe. ..and the even more dreaded "guy-spouting" girl in his class. Fielding know she will surprise (and attack) him as this year's innocent male virgin, and unfortunately never kissed, boy-victim under the mistletoe at the party. But Mick refuses of course.... or?
“Standing? Will that be comfortable?”
“You'll be standing at the party, won't you?”
“Right. Good thinking. Exellent.”

I have only superlatives to say about this charming (short - just over 100 pages) novella. Which you all already understood now, right? Hence it is now. Enough said.
...but I just must add: I love this little gem ... and the guys ... and snowball war ... and mistletoe-kissing.

~ Want to get the privilege to get a little extra "Christmas merry" one evening? (in the midst of the Christmas stress...) - Then read and enjoy this book about the lovely nerd, "That KISS" and a huge "somersault" in Mick's life. You cannot but enjoy it...~

I LIKE - a nice treat to read from the first to the very last page

What a perfect Christmas read!!

I tried to sum up the story repeatedly for this review but always ended up redoing it because there's no way to convey how irresistibly cute this plot is.

Mick is a straight jock who takes in physics student and super intelligent nerd Fielding as his roommate (who is a slightly less complicated version of Sheldon from Big Bang Theory)

They become instant friends and Fielding blossoms in Mick's company, joining Mick for runs and eating  happily the health food Mick prefers to  cook.

When Fielding gets invited to a Christmas party in the physics department, he's afraid that one of his fellow female students will throw herself at him underneath a mistletoe and he wants to prepare himself for the 'worst case'.

As Fielding has never kissed before AND overheard that Mick is said to be the best kisser on campus, it comes naturally that Mick needs to be the one who shall teach Fielding how to kiss.

And once Fielding has put his mind to something, he sees things through!

Mick hesitates, but not because kissing Fielding would be a hardship, but rather he doesn't want to find out what the excitement of kissing his best friend would mean for his heterosexuality.

It is a rather short story and it is pretty straightforward, but it left me with a wonderfully mellow feeling.

5 stars!

Loved it, loved it, loved it! Favourite Xmas story up to now (okay I've only read two but its going to take a lot to knock this off top spot!) and I feel all gooey and giggly! Love or hate GFY stories this one is just so charming that personally I couldn't give a monkeys doodah if its a far fetched concept or not because I've just read it straight through with a huge sappy grin on my face, a lovely warm feeling in my belly and that super contented feeling you get when you've enjoyed something so much you just want to go back and re- read it straightaway to recapture those feelings all over again.

I love sexual Tension so the snowball scene < sigh> and subsequent build up between the guys ticked that box, and I adore kissing. You can never have enough kisses in my opinion and the kisses in this are sigh worthy! Hot sex scenes are not a hardship to read lol, but sometimes just a kiss when its dreamy enough can make you tingle and melt and when Fielding and Mick kissed in this ... Well you get the drift now I'm sure!

This was simply a treat and a little Christmas cracker! Adoreable! 5 stars for taking me out of myself and for making me feel like a proper happy bunny!

What can I possibly say more about this little tasty morsel that everyone hasn’t already said? 😁 Wow! I’m literally blown away! 😱 First of all, hats off to Eli Easton for being able to pack that much emotions and storyline for a less-than-100-pages novella. In my case, a very short 2hrs 30mins audio! I listened this one instead of reading it and I’m so glad that I did!

Secondly, Fielding is such an intricate, interesting and unique person that you can’t help but fall in love with him. 😍 I usually prefer two POVs but in this case, I’m actually god that I only get Mick’s POV because somehow it made Fielding even more mysterious and intriguing. And did I say, I love that skirt chaser Mick? 😂 As far as I’m concerned, despite his short-lived cowardice, the guy’s the gold standard boyfriend material. How these two guys evolved from innocent friends to passionate lovers is just so beautiful to witness. 💙 I smiled, I cried and I laughed along with them. And another reason which made me fall in love with this book heads over heels is the glorious narration of Jason Frazier! 😍 Oh man, where have you been all my life?!?! 😁 The man CAN narrate and his superb narration elevated an already perfect book to a whole new level! 👏 I was so obsessed with his narration that as soon as I finished listening this audio in one go, I had to go to Audible and purchase more titles that he narrated. I have listened so many audios and he really does have one of the most delicious and loveliest voices that I’ve ever heard! 😍 And a spot-on narration! Kudos to him too. 👏

Well, in conclusion, if you are looking for a feel-good, friends to lover, a lovely holiday novella packed with intense, authentic emotions, look no further because you have found one. And anyone who’s only even slightly into audios, I insist you do the audio on this one because you won’t regret it one bit. For now, I’m still high over how fulfilling, satisfying and amazing this little novella is! 😍 Only Miss Easton can make a kissing that erotic and titillating! So wicked and I love it!!! 🥰

That was ridiculous.

You know what that much sweetness and cuteness and all out adorableness does to a person like me?

It makes me cry.

I read this in public. Luckily I don't know anyone here but I'm pretty sure they all think I'm emotionally unstable. The crying while smiling like a big ole loon probably looks weird and a little creepy.

This was lovely. Perfect holiday reading. Short and ridiculously sweet. Just don't read it in public if you are prone to blubbering like a idiot!

I want to hug someone.

4.5 “I Say Yes” Stars

When Mick takes his socially awkward roomie under his wing, he gets more than he bargained for when the adorkable Fielding, who’s never been kissed, asks for lessons. Whilst he might be naïve, once he’s set his sights on something, he never gives up and with Mick renowned for being the best kisser on campus, no one else will do. Absolutely loved these two 💘 SO MANY FEELZ 🥰 It was just what I needed!

UPDATE - Just read the fabulous bonus novella on the author’s website, which I had no idea existed (thank you Lisa 🙏🏻). It’s only 11 pages but if you love Mick and Fielding, you’re in for a treat 🥰

4.5 Stars! Reading this book was like having the most scrumptious Christmas cookies and the sweetest creamiest hot chocolate. It left me deliciously satisfied. YUM!

 photo 0bb59b4d-89e5-498b-8b1c-88b67a93bb47_zps7bf6e994.jpg

Fielding was such a naïve loveable nerd, and his innocence and exuberance to experience life was utterly charming and infectious. Mick was a scrumptious specimen, with a kind heart, not an ounce of ego, and you couldn't help but fall in love with him! His sweet demeanor and protective nature made him the perfect match for Fielding. That first kiss and all the good stuff that came afterward...wow!! Oh yeah, I was definitely feeling a love connection...no mistletoe necessary! However, the mistletoe scene was a beautiful defining moment for both of them!

My first read by this author, and even though this is a novella, I was impressed by the complete package, it felt like way more than a few hours worth of reading!

This is a feel good book that can be read anytime, no matter the season!

It's no secret I loved Eli Easton's Superhero and am always on the lookout for more of her stories.
Then I saw the cover for this one (it really caught my eye) and read the blurb and knew I had to read it.

Mick is at Cornell, he's double majoring in Nutrition and Physical Therapy. He works 2 jobs, quit football and moved out of the dorms, all to concentrate on his studies.
Now he just needs a housemate and he sure gets one in Fielding.
Fielding is great, his mother is sort of scary but she only makes a short appearance. Fielding is a genius, he's 19 and in the graduate program for particle physics. He's also missing a lot of the normal experiences growing up usually brings with it.
Mick takes care of Fielding and helps him catch up on all the things he has missed out on growing up.
The poor guy hasn't even seen Star Wars for goodness sake.
I really liked that Mick loves seeing Fielding happy, his welfare is important to him.
“My science geek housemate hadn’t grown up with a lot of laughter. But Fielding laughed now. He did a lot of things now that he hadn’t when we’d first moved in together. I felt pretty damn good about that..”

Fielding made this book for me, I saw him through Mick's eyes and he's a real treat.
Because of his sheltered upbringing and also since a she-devil seems to have set her sights on him and maybe just maybe because he thinks Mick is a catch, he wants to learn how to kiss, from Mick.
Mick is straight, at least he always has been, so kissing Fielding isn't something he thinks he should do. But Fielding really doesn't take 'no' well.
He's not giving up on his plan, tenacious is what that boy is.
“When Fielding’s eyes said Eureka! civilizations crumbled and gods wept."
Mick doesn't stand a chance against a determined genius.
“He looked at me with such hope and longing. To say no would have been like kicking Mr. Rogers in the groin.”

I think Mick's inner struggle with what he feels for Fielding as opposed to what he thinks are the expectations of him, by his family, society and even himself was very well done.
“But it was one thing to make your own adult decisions. It was another to become a person who might not even fit into your family’s lives anymore or into your own perception of yourself.”

I don't really see this as a gay-for-you so much as a realization of who he is and who he loves. Maybe he's bi-sexual maybe he's gay, it doesn't matter. He loves Fielding, but is that enough?
“It was like I was staring at puzzle pieces that were perfectly fine in their own right, they just didn’t fit together, and they didn’t fit inside me.”

This is definitely a great holiday read, it's like a cup of hot chocolate with humor, cuteness and sweetness to warm me up on a cold winters night and a dash of romance as a marshmallow on top.

Another great holiday story from Eli Easton. It was absolutely adorable and hot!

Mick is the typical hot guy who is into fitness and has a reputation of being a womanizer. There is more to him than what he appears and is actually a really nice guy. He is in desperate need of a roommate in order to make ends meet. Here is where Fielding comes in. He is a total geek from a wealthy family. He hasn't been exposed to much due to his overprotective mother. He is so ready to experience life. The unlikely pair become best of friends and hang out with each other all the time. After Fielding finds out that Mick is known for his mad kissing skills, he wants to learn how to kiss like him. Mick is very reluctant to teach him, he isn't gay. But something about Fielding lures him in and he soon starts to feel more.

This was so freaking awesome!! I loved how cute these two were when they hung out and watched movies or worked out. Fielding was stinking adorkable. I loved watching him learn new things and experience new things. Mick was pretty damn great when he wasn't confused about his feelings. The chemistry was amazing and oh, so very scorching hot. I was giddy throughout the entire book. I just could not get rid of my goofy grin. It was very heartwarming. And that ending *happy sigh*. I really enjoyed this one and didn't want it to end, at all. If you are looking for a great holiday short, than this one is it.

I'm going to be a voted off the island after this I can feel it.

But... I didn't like it. Parts of it were cute but overall...

I think we can all agree that Easton's bread and butter is the coming of age trope. It's hard to top her for the straight guy figuring out he's maybe not so straight plot line but that bar (for me) is set at Superhero. Five Dares is a close second.

This didn't even get close to unseating those. And when it comes to her Jingletime stories... it's Unwrapping Hank all day, every day.

I get why Mick is attracted to Fielding. I sooooo get it. He's adorkable, eager and earnest, like a puppy. How can you not love a puppy? A puppy who can make an R2D2 snow sculpture even.

Mick though...

Mick is circling the dickish block AND he's a snoozefest too! Field is way too good for him. I will grant that he's diligent when it comes to ensuring Fielding doesn't just start freebasing cheese puffs and he leaves the house occasionally but that alone did not make him Fielding's soul mate in my eyes.

A personal trainer could do the same and without the dickishness to boot.

As far as Jason Frazier goes, I like his voice but his "sexy" voice is a bit heavy handed at times. A couple times, I was, like, you're talking about macaroni, bro, ease up. Granted when it's warranted it can melt butter at 30 paces but use it wisely. Once I thought I was going to have to go in and perform CPR with all the breathiness. #giver

Feel free to ignore me and my Scroogles McHumbugerton review and read the eleventy-seven majillion other favorable ones on here.

Meanwhile, I'll be over here in the box of shame.

5 Freakin' Adorable Stars

I said I wanted fluffy, romantic Christmas books and this definitely fit the bill. It was so freakin' cute! I had this goofy smile on my face the whole time I was reading it that just didn't seem to go away.

This book has a decisively YA feel and if there wasn't a slightly more explicit sex scene(nothing too much) I would shelf it like that. I haven't read many MM books and the ones I have tend to be on the more angsty side with the whole "coming out of the closet", "homophobic idiots making my life difficult" kind of story, so this one was a very pleasant surprise. There was a tiny bit of drama of course but there was no angst and in the end it was just sweet and light and Christmasy.

Mick is the "jock" in the story, he has been with a lot of girls and is generally considered a man-whore on campus because he slept around but always chose girls who didn't demand a real relationship, but he's always had secret little fantasies that he doesn't let get out. Mick was nice. He was a genuinely good guy who had a tiny bit of problem with accepting that he is gay. The fact that he didn't deny it all the way to drama-land is something that made me like him more.

But as nice as Mick was, Fielding stole the show. Fielding is a genious with a very overprotective mom, which means he has spent his whole life inside a book until he comes to live with Mick. I loved how Fielding wanted to learn everything and how his lack of social education made him unable to understand why asking your seemingly straight friend to teach you how to kiss just isn't something people do. For him there was no straight or gay prejudices. He liked Mick and made no apologies for it.

PS. Samantha(Mick's best friend) was also pretty cool and full of great advice.

5+++++ adorkable stars/audiobook

I can tell you how much I loved this GFY college story. I am not usually big on NA books, but this one was just adorkable.

Mick Colman is a jock, and known to be the “best kisser on “campus. His new roommate turns out to be Fielding Monroe, a genius, and a little on the dorky side. From the beginning, Mick takes a nurturing role for Fielding. He makes sure Fielding eats well, exercises, and gets enough sleep. Somewhere along the way, they become best friends. So Fielding doesn’t think twice about asking the best kisser on campus to teach him how to kiss. Mick is a little freaked out when Fielding asks, but is Mick more upset because he is struggling with his feelings for Fielding, or is it because Mick isn’t gay?

The audiobook was absolutely amazing. The narrator, Jason Frazer, did an incredible job matching up the voices to Mick and Fielding’s personality, and they were very distinguishable. His voice grabbed from the start, and I loved every minute of it.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a short, cavity inducing holiday read.

I have to admit that gay-for-you is not always a genre that I actively look for. I know that it’s a nice trope and can be really romantic, but at the same time I always wonder if the straight-man-turned-gay will bail in the future. I did think that this story was quite a cute GFY even if I had some personal issues.

What Worked For Me

** I thought Mick’s inner struggle to deny that he had feelings for guys was good and realistic. He was a ladies-man before and as a jock, he did have things to consider. I liked this – I liked that he kept musing about it, talking it out with his best friend Samantha, and even if he did something pretty stupid, I was glad with what he experienced throughout. Until he finally accepted that he was in love with Fielding. Because of this, I am not worry that he would go back loving women. Like Mick said, he became one of the attentive boyfriends, and I applauded Mick for it.

** Fielding was adorable – I loved that he was determined, working out his request for a kiss by arguments. I loved that he embraced the new things that Mick taught him, like watching Star Wars, or running as exercise, or helping Mick cook. I loved these kinds of characters.

** Ms. Easton’s writing, as always, was light and entertaining. There was some wonderful moments that made me all smile and warm and fuzzy. Like when Mick and Fielding having snow fight. *Sigh*

What Didn’t Work For Me

** These days, I am truly tired with negative portrayal of females in my books. Bitchy females, man-eaters, fag-hag, pushy or bigoted … tired of them. I know that they exist in real life, but I feel like I already read them in heterosexual romance or Hollywood movies, or TV shows, that I just feel annoyed if I have to read them in MM romance too. Unfortunately, two of the females here were described as such. The flirty female Regina and the man-eater Susan. The general sense that ladies were chasing Mick because he was a good kisser and a jock was another trope I could live without.

** The ending also was slightly too sweet and at the same time, against my principle.

All in all, it was still a lovely read. The issues were mine alone and I'm sure others may not find them as problems. This novella cemented my opinion that Eli Easton is one of my favorite ‘new’ authors that I discover this year. I look forward to more stories from her.

Oh, what a sweet little story! So sweet that I might have been on a sugar high, smiling throughout the whole novella.

Now, I'm the ultimate Grinch this year, but I still enjoy Christmas stories, and this... this one was perfect!

Fielding was just adorkable! I loved him from page one. I mean, how could I not?

"OH, look!" Fielding said. "They have a new latte flavor–'Santa's Death by Peppermint.' I'm getting that."

Lovely, isn't he? And Mick was just as amazing himself!

I even enjoyed the super sappy ending, because, if I'm being honest with myself, I'm a sucker for HEAs!

Geek + Jock + GFY! It’s an M/M trifecta and I absolutely loved it!! Mick is a football jock who quit the team to focus on his studies. He moves off campus to get some separation from his past life and ends up with Fielding Monroe as a roommate. Fielding is a genius; very bright but socially awkward in every way. He’s lived a very sheltered life, so Mick takes it upon himself to look out for Fielding. Making sure he eats healthy, gets some exercise, teaching him everyday things like how to build a snowman.

When Fielding asks Mick to teach him how to kiss, things get complicated! The two of them are so darn cute together. Mick is so unsure of his feelings. He doesn’t want to admit that he’s gay, but he doesn’t want to lose Fielding either. The epilogue is so sweet! The perfect ending to a perfect book!!

This was so adorable and feel good that I read it twice, one right after the other. Fell asleep when I finished it the first time and then reread it the next day. Still just as smile worthy.

I love Easton's description's of things. They always manage to capture so much of the character and moment without explicitly stating the obvious. Great weaving.
When Fielding’s eyes said Eureka!, civilizations crumbled and gods wept.

“No. I’ve managed to escape thus far, clinging to the sides of the room like a limpet.”

And the dialogue also rocks.
She’s going to hunt me down like a fucking rabbit—this mistletoe business, really it’s sexual harassment, plain and simple, but that’s the holidays for you."

“Mine’s more traditional, though. They made a movie out of it and everything. There’s something to be said for a classic.”

“And yet, time marches forward. Hence the demise of floppy disks.”

This is just a delightful holiday treat where love transcends--gender, cliques, and stupidity.

Oh, wow!

I should have read this book during a Christmas break or holidays, the time feels too off right now (summer!), but I read the blurb and I just couldn't wait.

These two were so cute and hot and adorable. Fielding is such a sweetheart. From friendship to love, Mick and Fielding totally rocked this book.

It is a light read, not deep or anything, perfect for a winter holiday read. I would have wanted it to be longer (the book hehehe), but I'm happy as it is, and I'm being generous with my rating.

That KISS was SO worth the reading.
