Complete Coverage leading from unbelief to belief

This book starts by showing you how illogical it is to believe there is no Creator or even more basic, that there are many truths. It’s self-evident that there is only a single truth, but many people in today’s society like to spout trendy sayings without thinking what they’re really saying. It then leads you to the ultimate truth, which is available to all humanity in Jesus Christ, but only if you appropriate the truth for yourself. Well done.

Michael Edwards has crafted a primer on the evangelical Christian religion in his book, but it reads like the Cliff Notes version of a more comprehensive book authored by Dr. Norman Geisler and Frank Turek, “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist.” I’d recommend reading that instead. The book’s questions are often answered with quotations from Christian philosophers like Peter Kreeft and Paul Copan, or with links to Christian apologetics websites. The title of Edwards’s book is taken from a Paul Copan book, which deals with logic and reasoning and how Christianity requires both.

Rightly Divide the Word

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book because as I scanned it I saw many well-articulated and valid apologetic arguments that everyone should consider. However, I initially read the section on “Who Did Jesus Claim to Be?” I was interested in this section because so many authors use the same approach to their argument that “Jesus is God.” I felt the urge to write a review to cover this topic first.

One must be especially sensitive to what I call “slight of word” magic where one idea is stated in scripture that may be able to have a nuanced meaning to support a thesis, if one brings their “pretext” to their study. That nuanced wording is then restated – with different words – that actually change what was nuanced into some sort of a definitive and authoritative conclusion. This is NOT “rightly dividing the word” as we are told to do in 2 Timothy 2:15. Rather this is “adding to scripture” which is prohibited in Proverbs 30: 5-6.

With each example provided by the authors, go to the passage and read the verse in CONTEXT. Jesus NEVER claimed to be God. Jesus ALWAYS gave God the credit (glory) for giving Him (Jesus) the authority to do what He did on earth – with power provided through the Holy Spirit. Jesus was not and never will be “equal in authority.” God put all things under Jesus – except God Himself who obviously remained in authority “above Jesus.” (1 Corinthians 15:27)  On a couple other notes, Jesus is not “the OBJECT of prayer” whatever that is supposed to mean. Asking “in His name” is simply recognizing Him as the only Way to the Father. Claiming to be the Messiah in NO way is claiming to “be God.” Jesus is God’s Messiah. That does NOT make Him God. Jesus claiming to be “one with the Father” is always an argument presented. In John 17: 21 Jesus says that we are also “one with” the Father, and with Jesus. Does this make us God? Of course not! And yes, the same word for “one” is used in all cases. Being “one with the Father” does not make someone God. It does, however, unite us all in thought and behavior which is what Jesus was asking for us.

The whole concept of a trinity or “3-in-1” God is a Human Created Creed that was forced onto Christianity when Christianity was subsumed into the Universal Religion that Constantine established in the fourth century; for the purpose of uniting and controlling his kingdom. “The Psychology of Three in Religion” is a great topic to google. There is a well-documented YouTube presentation to show this historical truth. There is One God, (Yahweh) and one Lord and Savoir, (Jesus Messiah). The One True God is NOT like all the other pagan gods. Also remember that “incarnation” was the traditional belief of these pagan Gods “walking among men”. "Incarnation" is NOWHERE in the Bible and has NO possible link to “begotten” which is the process God used to bring Jesus into existence. This process resulted in Jesus being born holy, sinless, and pure, which is what qualified Him to be the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. Incarnation and begotten are NOT synonymous.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book. Let’s all remember to take special care to rightly divide the word as we search for truth to determine what we believe.

Very good, concise, informative, real talk!!

I really enjoyed this book. As a Catholic, there are a few things toward the end that I simply don't agree with, but it's honestly minor points of theology, and I'm certainly not going to argue the points when we're still trying to convince hundreds of thousands of people that indeed Christ lived, died, and was resurrected, and the Bible gives us the entire history in a beautiful package. This is a very well-written and well put-together book that points so clearly to the reality that non-Christians, especially atheists, try to deny daily. I would challenge anyone to read it and still deny the Bible and Jesus after. Our human pride truly gets in the way, a point made very clear here. This is a book all parishes and all churches should keep on hand. Highly recommended!! Excellent read!

Christian Apologetics Good points

I found this to be a worthwhile read, although I was wishing for a bit more meat.

That said, it is a clearly presented, straight forward, and easy to read book. And that's a good thing.

This is a short book, yet is huge in thought-provoking queries. Michael Edwards takes the writings of the Bible and parallels them with current world examples in a thoughtful presentation. I truly enjoyed reading this book and expect I will return to it often.

Michael Edwards powerfully confronts the dismissive relativism with which the society of our day has chosen to treat the abiding facts of God’s existence, the deity and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the need for humankind’s salvation. As the clever title would indicate, this book builds on the compelling premise that we as humans are not afforded the right to pick and choose which absolute truths apply to each of us, be they natural laws such as gravity or the revelations of eternal truth found in the Bible.

Gravity, True For You But Not For Me accomplishes a remarkable feat. It is decidedly approachable because of its conversational tone and easy language, while at the very same time it packs in so much carefully researched and painstakingly documented reference material that Edwards’ work could easily be used as an outline and reference list for a doctoral thesis. It is not an easy task to blend apologetics and evangelism without coming across as stilted or pretentious, but Edwards pulls it off nicely.

This is the sort of book of which Christians would do well to keep several copies on hand at all times, ready to share with any person with whom God leads them to share the Gospel. There is no doubt that God will use Edwards’ Gravity, True For You But Not For Me to bring about a rich and eternal harvest.

Please disregard the hokey cover picture and imperfect editing. This book presents many of the logical proofs for the existence of a god and then progressively to the existence of the God of the Bible and eventually to the gospel of Jesus Christ contained in the Bible. It serves as a tool to be given to people on the fence about Christianity. My expectations were low for this free e-book, but it answered many of the basic rejections of the Truth. It was persuasive in tone and evangelistic in nature, but also served as a good overview (or reminder) to the average Christian of apologetics which are helpful in witnessing.

Excellent, clear and challenging

Michael has approached the whole subject of the gospel from the examination of truth. After defining truth, he examines every aspect how we respond to what is true. It's a convincing approach, which leaves no room for lukewarmness or apathy, as he tackles every doubting response and every excuse head on.
An outstanding apologetic which is being used powerfully by God.
