This book has a lot of redundant questions for the sake of just hitting the number quotient. For example, there are 3-4 questions about salary that all have the same answers. I also didn’t agree with a lot of the suggested answers. Overall, this book was kind of a waste of time. Glad I got it for free during an Amazon promotions.
This was pretty informative, actually. The main reason I downloaded it was because of that one question you just cannot answer without looking like an imbecile:
What is your biggest weakness?
GAWD I HATE THAT QUESTION!!! And they ask it every single time.
What do you say? You can't go the obvious answer route and say "I'm a perfectionist." Puh-leeze. Liar, liar, pants on fire.
The truth is, you cannot win answering that question, but you have to tell them something, and she phrases it so you won't sound quite as lame as the perfectionist answer.
There are some questions that are the same, just worded different. But other than that, she hits on all the questions I've ever been asked in an interview and gives wonderful advice on answering them. The main thing though, RESEARCH the company.
This one gives perfectly reasonable advice on how to conduct oneself during a job interview interspersed with suggestions to write a '30-60-90- day. The exact plan which, it just so happens, the author is selling another book on.
To me it seems like the e-book version of an infomercial. YMMV.
Whether you are the interviewer or the interviewee the book definitely provides some good insights. Almost everyone goes through both sides of the interview process during the professional life. This book provides you with some insights to tweak your interviewee / interviewer skills. Very easy read.
A lot of good tips. Some of the book was really redundant. I get that the same questions often come worded differently so it was covered in different ways. It probably should have been organized a little better so the same or similar questions or their alternatives were grouped together. That said, though, I thought there was a lot of useful information.
This book provides great insight to many interview questions asked during the interview process. The questions are relevant and the answers very helpful.
Many questions with valuable information about how to respond to them. Surely, you will get ready for an interview no matter the field of work you are interested in. I highly recommend this book. Thanks,
Like many others have said - a lot of solid advice if you have not interviewed for a while, or haven't interviewed outside of your company. I listened to the audio book and had to return to the printed copy after to memorize some of the strategies. I've noticed that a lot of questions were repetitive - it was good, on the one hand, because the author showed different angles of the same question, but I think it would have been better if all "synonyms" were kept together and only one substantial answer was provided to all of them. I also heard about 30-60-90 day plan enough to start thinking about using it for one of the future interviews.
This book was very helpful in my interview preparations. I specifically liked the example answers to the questions. There is enough substance and guidance to help me answer the question using my personal experiences instead of having vague replies. Peggy also has a great sense of humor that comes through in many of the answers. I have read the book once all the way through, thinking of my answers. I will go through it again and write down my answers; this time spending the needed time on thoughtful and specific responses. Thank you, Peggy McKee for writing this book!
Acing an interview can be very hard, especially if you really, really, really want to job. This book would help you prepare for most of the unpleasant but important questions that you will most probably get on an interview. The answers that Peggy offers sometimes overlap but so do the questions. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to perform better on interviews but also who wants to perform better interviews as an interviewer. It offers a good collection of questions, the traps and caveats on each of them and gives you tools to analyze every answer.
The book was basic and full of common sense answers. Nothing ground breaking. A lot of pushing for reading other published works of hers. If you are new to working is a good book. If you haven't interviewed for a while it's a decent refresher. But over all it was just meh.
I think this is an informative book for those seeking new positions. One must be prepared for questions that interviewers may ask and this book covers most things that a prospective employee may be asked.
Highly recommended. This book will get you in the right mindset to compete at a high level in interviews. Her text on phone interviews also includes actionable advice that puts you on the right track.
In this 2nd Volume, Peggy gives insight about 101 questions that are more disguised and more focused for management positions (at least that's what they ask around here when they want to promote you) :) I totally recommend this book. I loved it.
A must read for anyone interviewing for a job, or anyone interviewing candidates for a job. Each short chapter is a basic interview question and how to answer it (and how not to).
Absolutely terrific for the job seeker - especially the beginning job seeker.
The book provides a good collection of standard interview questions and explanation for how to approach the difficult questions. It could have used more sample answers.
I would highly recommend to anyone who is currently job seeking. I found this book to be helpful and insightful on what type of questions to expect in an interview.
