Texas Weddings #1-2

A Class of Her Own & A Chorus of One

Rate this book
BOOK ONE: A CLASS OF HER OWN: When Laura Chapman’s husband of over twenty years passes away, she finds herself the sole provider for two teenage children, lonely and frightened, and determined to return to college to obtain a degree. Then she lands in the same history class with her daughter and finds herself offending the toughest professor on campus. Professor Andrew Dougherty, still a bachelor at forty-seven, has sworn off women. His heart was broken years earlier by a skittish fiancee. Just when Laura feels that she has no alternative but to drop out of school due to stress and finances, Andrew begins to realize that it is time for the battle to cease between them. He is beginning to discover that his feelings for Laura Chapman are not at all what he thought at first.

BOOK TWO: A CHORUS OF ONE: It’s the opportunity of a lifetime…Jessica Chapman has her happy ending planned out. Does it really matter that she and her fiance’ don’t agree on every little detail? Or even on some big ones–like her passion for music and the theater. Jessica plans to become Nathan Fisher’s wife and live “happily ever after” in Houston. But then Jess is offered the internship of her dreams. The handsome and tenderhearted Colin Phillips sees something special in Jessica, believing the Lord has chosen her to train vocally gifted children–in Dallas. Could God also have chosen her to play a more important role in Colin’s life? Should Jess settle for an ill-fitting lackluster marriage? Or will the Lord orchestrate the perfect due?

Texas weddings book 1
A Class of her own

I wasn’t particularly delighted with the narrator, but I liked the book and laughed out loud a couple times! Their awkwardness was especially endearing!

Texas weddings book 2
A chorus of one

I enjoyed the audiobook version of this book! The narrator kept saying Eye-talian instead of Ee-talian or Eh-talian and she didn’t differentiate between the women characters very well, but she did and outstanding job with sound effects like a voice on the phone, in a memory or behind a closed door!
The story was quite enjoyable and unique! I wish there would have been more information about the different operas and added more lyrics to the songs because I know very little about either, but maybe I’m the only one. Overall a good experience with this new to me author and narrator. I’ll definitely check out further books by both!

Pure joy!

Watching God direct the lives of a younger generation through the wisdom of a generation who has lived and learned...that's just a piece of this story. Live the emotions, sing a new song, rejoice in the goodness of our God Who loves us with a love that cannot be equaled. A love as romantic as ever...enjoy!

It was interesting to read these two books together, as A Class of Her Own is the story of a widow and A Chorus of One is the story of her young adult daughter. I appreciate that the characters of people of faith who sincerely try to live accordingly, flawed and imperfect as they are.

I read the first one and just browsed through the second one. In romance I look for actual interaction between H and h, and I didn't get that here. In A Class of Her Own, it was too much about Laura and Laura, her internal dialogue and struggles... and then it was too preachy; all her internal dialogues and prayers etc... Just too much. All those characters that kept on saying "I know it's going to be OK"... I hate that! Are you God? How can you know? If you are christian, things SHOULD be able to NOT be OK and you should be able to still have faith!

Second one I only read first three chapters and last four chapters.

This was such a bargain to get two books in one. "A Class of Her Own" really spoke to me where I was at the time. There is a strong message of forgiveness in this story. It's also encouraging for the older adult to return to school to better her life, in spite of what her college-aged daughter thinks. It's a pleasant read with a happy ending. "A Chorus of One" is another great read. This follows the daughter of the woman in the first book. I'm sure many can relate to the daughter's perdictament. I noticed more in the second book than the first that there were typos and wrong words. I don't think this is necessarily the author's fault. Perhaps it happened in the tranfer to ebook format.

The first book, "A Class of Her Own," was predictable but entertaining. I enjoyed it and would even have rated it a 4 star. However, book two, "A Chorus of One," was so painfully predictable from the first sentence. I couldn't wait to be finished with it. I would rate that book a 1 1/2 or 2 if I were being generous.

Texas Weddings 1 & 2

Both books were enjoyable, light reads. While they were both written with God as the center of the characters lives, it was not with a heavy hard.

These were an excellent break from my heavier read - The Scarlet Letter - whose awkward prose overwhelms me. Now I can go back to the Puritans and their quite mean, nasty ways.

Sweet reads

Janice Thompson's Texas Weddings (Books 1&2): A Class of Her Own & A Chorus of One. Both books are sweet romances of a mother and her daughter. These heart-filled stories are based on the desire, to seek and follow the leading that the Lord willingly gives each one of us, if we would only ask.

Enjoyable Light Reading ing

I enjoyed reading these volumes so much that I plan on ordering the next four volumes. Sometimes it is pleasant to read light family novels with t h feel good plots. I am not always in the mood for tears or terror. This author can capture my attention without foul language and unpleasant happenings.

Heartfelt stories.

I liked how the two books flowed together. What I loved was the Spiritual influence and reference to show us how important it was for us to pray, listen, and then act accordingly upon th World of God.
