Si Daphné peine à faire le deuil de son mari Ivan, elle retrouve la joie de vivre et se reconstruit peu à peu au contact de sa belle-famille, avec qui elle est restée très proche. Mais les nombreux non-dits qui planent autour de la mort d'Ivan pourraient tout faire basculer...

Depuis la mort accidentelle de son mari il y a huit ans, Daphné est restée très attachée à sa belle-famille. Elle rejoint régulièrement Nelly, Maximilien, Ève, Vladimir et les autres dans la grande maison familiale de La Jouve, près de Montpellier.

Mais si la vie des Bréchignac semble paisible, le souvenir d'Ivan est encore tenace. Malgré quelques rencontres, Daphné a du mal à être heureuse et à construire une relation avec un homme, d'autant qu'elle doit faire face à de sérieux problèmes financiers qui compromettent l'avenir de la cave à vin héritée de son mari. Elle se confie à Dimitri, le frère aîné d'Ivan, en qui elle a toujours reconnu un ami et confident. Ce dernier, grand créateur de parfum, lui propose alors son aide, mais Daphné, fière et courageuse, refuse de dépendre de quelqu'un et souhaite se débrouiller toute seule. Mais est-ce la vraie raison ? Pourquoi est-elle soudain si troublée en présence de son beau-frère alors qu'ils avaient jusqu'alors été si complices ? Par ailleurs, le talent de Dimitri, semble agacer Maximilien, son père, qui ne trouve plus l'inspiration pour sculpter depuis la mort d'Ivan. Le jeune homme en vient à s'interroger et à formuler les questions que la famille n'a jamais osé se poser : pourquoi Ivan, d'un naturel si calme, est-il entré dans une colère noire juste avant de mourir, un soir où toute la famille était réunie à La Jouve ? Maximilien aurait-il des raisons de se sentir coupable ? Et que cachent ses escapades parisiennes ?

Une rencontre fortuite pourrait conduire Dimitri à déterrer de lourds secrets de famille et à faire surgir les passions et les sentiments les plus inattendus...

About the author

Françoise Bourdin was born listening to opera. Her parents, both opera singers, helped her to develop an appreciation for strong characters and destinies, and for the music of words. As a teenager, she discovered horseback riding and it became her exclusive hobby. She dedicated her teens to this passion and to reading the works of classical authors that she discovered in her father’s huge library. Bourdin started to write short stories when she was very young. Her first novel was published by Editions Julliard when she was only twenty. Writing became the most important thing in her life and her second novel, two years later, was adapted for TV.

Her fiction describes family stories, secrets, and passions. She values brave characters who face life boldly and never give up when confronted with adversity. Since 1994, she has written thirty books, three of which have been adapted for television. Her readership continues to grow with each novel.

Bourdin has two daughters and lives in a beautiful home in Normandy. She writes every day, always with the same pleasure, the most beautifully human and moving stories. She knows how to express our deepest emotions and to write stories that resemble our own lives.

Elle est mariée à un médecin et a deux filles, Fabienne, née 1981, et Frédérique, née 1982.

Elle commence à écrire des nouvelles à 16 ans. Elle publie son premier roman en 1972, Les Soleils mouillés. En 1973, son second roman, De vagues herbes hautes est choisi par Josée Dayan pour réaliser son premier téléfilm — avec comme interprète Laurent Terzieff. Depuis, elle a publié près d'une trentaine de livres.
Elle est aussi scénariste de profession pour la télévision, beaucoup de ses romans ont été adaptés à la télévision.

Una historia situada en el sur de Francia, una gran familia y no uno, sino varios secretos que guarda con recelo cada personaje. Estas son las claves para que esta novela sea tan bella como lo es, para que te atrape y no consigas soltarte, para que sueñes con La Jouve y poder tener algún día una vivienda así.

La pluma de la autora es muy bella y te introduce en la historia muy sencillamente.

Con muchos personajes, varios artistas y gran variedad de sueños a cumplir.

Es un libro que te hará llorar, reír, enamorarte, enojarte, rabiar del dolor y de la frustración, te dará bronca, pero sobre todo te hará creer en el amor y su inmenso poder.

Definitivamente una hermosa historia

REVIEW OF AN UNSPOKEN SUSPICION BY FRANCOISE BOURDIN

When I was a youngster, my mother would send me to the library to pick up novels for her to read. She liked Denise Robins and insisted I check the last pages to make sure they had a happy ending, so I became something of an authority on romantic novels. This book she would have loved: a charming family in a beautiful home in the south of France. The patriarch Max, a sculptor, is deeply disturbed since the death of his youngest son, but the rest of the family are artistic and successful in their chosen professions, though with hints of intrigue to stir the imagination. The family have taken to their hearts the widow of their brother and she has become an important part of the story. Perhaps the French are more at home with extra marital relationships than this book suggests, but it is a story and an enjoyable read.

La historia transcurre en la casa familiar de la familia, lo que me encantó. Supuestamente hay un super secreto, que resulta que no es tan secreto. A lo largo de todo libro prácticamente te dan a entender que paso, así que la revelación no es para nada sorprendente.
Daphné, la viuda de uno de los hermanos de la familia, no me gustó. Se hace la adulta independiente de palabra, pero después anda haciendo capricho por todo y cada vez que tiene un problema se queda en blanco.
Max también me resultó insoportable. No sólo por su forma de ser, sino por el desprecio que tiene con sus hijos varones. Pero creo que esa es la reacción que esperaba la autora con el personaje.
Los demás personajes me gustaron mucho. Fue interesante que todos tengan profesiones tan distintas, pero que de igual manera estén atados a su casa familiar.
A la historia romántica le falto mucho. Como que no pasaba nada y de repente pasó todo en los dos últimos capítulos. Hubiera estado bueno más desarrollo.

Lo leí hace tiempo y recuerdo muy bien que me dejó un poco "cansada". Mi relación con la literatura francesa no es la mejor del mundo, pero me sedujo el título. La verdad, debería estar en plural, pues todos los personajes tienen sus propios secretos, aunque hay uno que es tremendo.
Recomiendo este libro a quien le guste las historias en plan Dinastía o Falcon Crest.

I read the Bordeaux Dynasty by this author and honestly, I had a hard time connecting with the characters and the plot, as a whole. When I had the opportunity to read another work by this author, I hoped to have a different response. I am so happy that I read this book. I truly enjoyed the story from the beginning and I actually liked the characters. The setting was very similar to the other book I read...the story is set in France and follows the lives of a very large and interconnected family. The only two characters I had issues with were Max, the patriarch, and Anton, the groundskeeper. I found nothing redeemable in Max and found his chapters truly obnoxious. With Anton, I felt we never got to delve into his role and honestly, he could have been left out of the book. I enjoyed watching Dimitri and Daphne's relationship develop, they were by far my favorite characters. The author's writing style is very easy to read, but every once and a while, I felt that the story veered for no good reason and there was much left unsaid or unresolved. I did prefer this story to The Bordeaux Dynasty and based on this story, I do look forward to reading more from this author.

Dans ce roman, nous rencontrons la famille Bréchignac avec Maximilien et Nelly, les parents, Ève, Béatrice, Vladimir et Dimitri, les enfants, ainsi que Daphné, la belle-fille.

Béatrice et Vladimir sont mariés et vivent avec leur famille respective à La Jouve, le domaine familial.

Daphné était mariée à Ivan, le 5eme enfant de Nelly et Maximilien mais ce dernier est décédé dans des circonstances plutôt troublantes.

Après quelques jours passés tous ensemble comme chaque année, la clan se reforme et des questions commencent à en tourmenter quelques-uns , dont Dimitri qui s'interroge sur les circonstances du décès de son frère.

Le clan va-t-il découvrir la vérité sur la mort d'Ivan? Maximilien y-est-il pour quelque chose ?

Entre mensonge et non-dit, le clan Bréchignac va-t-il révéler tous ses secrets ?

Je me suis vite laissée embarquer dans l'histoire du clan Bréchignac.

Chacun des personnages a son propre caractère. Tous sont autant attachants les uns que les autres même le patriarche qui a pourtant un homme à part.

Ce roman est addictif, il est impossible de le lâcher sans savoir si le terrible secret va être découvert.

L'écriture de Françoise Bourdin est envoûtante !

La historia de una familia grande, como las de antes, cuyos integrantes poseen algunos secretos que alteran la dinámica familiar de formas insospechadas. Lo único que me falló fue la pluma de la autora, muy descriptiva que hizo lento el desarrollo de la trama.

Este libro es lo que pasa cuando en otros libros no pasa nada interesante. Es cuando Tyrion se cura las cicatrices, cuando Elizabeth Bennett va al baño, es el bautizo de la protagonista de Rebeca, los padres de Peter Pettigrew, la ideología política de Anastasia Steel.

Ademas de insulsa, es machista, clasista, retrógrada y esnob. Es un uno porque no puede ser menos.

Una buena historia.

Me ha gustado la trama y el escenario ha contribuido bastante. He disfrutado de esas reuniones familiares como una integrante más. La narrativa de la autora es ligera, va llevando al lector tanto a encuentros agradables y como a rincones oscuros del ser humano. ¡Dimitri me ha encantado!

J'ai été agréablement surprise, car je ne pensais pas aimé ce genre. En revanche l'histoire est prenante, comme je l'es lu en 2 jours. Par contre il manque quelques chapitres, pour avoir une réelle fin !

Je n'ai pas les mots.
Le dernier Françoise Bourdin que j'ai lu ne m'avait pas plu énormément, j'avais été déçue.
Mais en le trouvant dans une boîte a livres je me suis dit pourquoi pas le prendre ? J'en ai beaucoup a la maison mais pas toute la collection !
Eh bien je peux vous dire que je ne regrette PAS DU TOUT ! Celui-ci est un des meilleurs que j'ai lu de cette auteure, enfin lu est un bien faible mot, je l'ai dévoré, je suis entrée dans l'histoire,
J'ai été prise de sympathie autant pour Maximilien que Daphnée, Dimitri l'homme parfait et tous.. Autant que j'ai eu la rage, j'ai eu la joie, le plaisir et la rancoeur, l'incompréhension, toute émotion était intentionnelle et merveilleuse on se croyait dans la vraie vie !!!

Je souhaite tout le bonheur a ces personnages si réels qu'ils soient, ils passent par des problèmes et conflits humains peu transmis et racontés. (Ou du moins pas de manière autant élaborée et réelle !)
J'ai eu du mal a les quitter mais les Brechignac sont a jamais dans mon coeur 💓

🪷Un libro que nos traslada al sur de Francia, al seno de una familia que guarda varios secretos que se irán desvelando a lo largo de la lectura.
🏵Me ha encantado la ambientación y las maravillosas descripciones de la autora me han hecho trasladarme a los jardines de La Jouve, la mansión familiar, imaginándome en ocasiones caminando por sus alrededores.
🌹Una historia que no solamente está cargada de secretos, sino también de traiciones y amores, estos tres ingredientes son fundamentales para que el libro te mantenga atrapada en los entresijos de esta familia.
🌺De todos los personajes, me quedo con Dimitri y Daphné, dos protagonistas fundamentales que acabarás adorando, su forma de ser y la manera tan cuidadosa y delicada que tienen de afrontar la historia, te hacen adorarlos aún más.
🌻Un libro entretenido, ameno y fácil de leer, muy recomendable para aquellos que les gustan las historias que se cuecen dentro de las familias.

Una historia de familia, de secretos, de amores y traiciones. Me encantó todo. Pero el final...así un poco abierto, me hubiese podido quedar leyendo sobre la familia. Había leído otro de esta autora y me había encantado también Como el agua y el fuego. Totalmente diferente, incluso la época son dispares. Pero es evidente que la prosa de esta escritora francesa me gusta mucho.

A family story, secrets, love, and betrayal. I love all. But the end was so open that I could have stayed reading about the family. I read another by this author and also loved Como el agua y el fuego. Totally different, even though the times are different. But it is clear that I like the prose of this French writer a lot.

Daphne has remained close to her colorful in-laws after the death of her husband Ivan. As a matter of fact, she's probably closer to Max, the patriarch, than his own two remaining sons Boris and Vladimir and two daughters and their families. This largish tribe lives in La Jouve, a rambling house that also houses the couture atelier that is now run by one of the daughters, and the parfumerie workshop of Vladimir. Although Ivan's fatal fall from the balcony in the hall of La Jouve was several years ago, it has left deep scars in the family. Nelly, the matriarch, has devoted her life to her children while trying to humor Max, who has become more and more autocratic. Max is a famous sculptor but he has not produced any more work since creating a series of powerful sculptures in the weeks immediately after witnessing his son plunge to his death. He is becoming increasingly bitter and resentful of his children's careers, especially of Vladimir's success in the world of haute parfumerie .

Daphne and Vladimir are both upset to realize that their feelings for each other are changing into romance. One of Vladimir's sisters also has romantic troubles. But when a Parisian art gallery decides to put on a show of Max' work, Vladimir discovers a family secret that not only illuminates the story behind his brother's accident but frees up all the members of the family to reject Max' claims of loyalty and obedience.

I have read enough of Francoise Bourdin's books by now to recognize the elements of her successful formula. The story is usually set in and around a big house that represents a family's history, often also their livelihood. There is usually a conflict between the older generation and the younger generation, and often this has to do with how to run a family business. The main character is usually a man or woman in their thirties to early fourties woman who need to reinvent themselves, take a plunge into a second chance for love. There are generous dinners, lots of wine, big family celebrations.

Bottom line : a very French type of escapism

Dafné es una mujer casada y feliz, hasta que un desafortunado incidente acaba con la vida de su amado marido, desde ese momento ella decide comenzar su vida desde cero, pero con la compania de la familia de su esposo, quienes la apoyan y la adoptan como parte de la misma.

Maximilien y Nelly (padres del difunto Ivan) criaron una envidiable familia en la mansión Brenchignec fuera de la ciudad, alli sus hijos fueron creciendo en completa armonía, y ahora en la actualidad la familia a comenzado a agrandarse y poco a poco.

Ya ha pasado tiempo de la triste perdida y todos los integrantes de la familia comienzan a reanudar sus vidas, Dafné abre un local en el que vende todo tipo de vinos, Nelly continuo con las tareas del hogar, Dimitri continua creando hermosos perfumes, su hermana vuelve a vender vestidos de novia, etc, el único que no es capaz de continuar con su vida es Max, el hombre de la familia ¿Porque sera? ¿Lo que siente es solamente el dolor totalmente comprensible de un padre que perdió a un hijo o hay algo mas?

Dafné y Dimitri, el hermano mayor de Ivan, se dan cuenta que algo esta creciendo entre ellos, y por miedo al rechazo o por la misma culpa deciden guardarlo en secreto, pero ese no es ni el único ni el peor de los secretos que guarda la familia.

Para empezar debo decir que es notable el protagonismo de Dafné durante toda la novela por mas de que la autora lo quiera camuflar intercalando otras historias y el romance que nos va contando a lo largo del libro es muy obvio desde el primer momento.

La trama tan escueta y la casi nula cantidad de escenarios hace que la lectura se torne algo pesada y pausada aunque es bastante simple de leer y el final o la ''resolución del conflicto'' si se quiere se la ve venir mucho tiempo antes sacandole parte de la emoción al libro.

La Jouve, an estate near Montpellier in southern France, is the home of the Brechignac family. Max, his wife Nelly and their 4 surviving adult children: Dimitri, Eve, Vladimir, Beatrice and Eve, live or work at the estate with spouses and children. Daphne, the widow of a dead son, Ivan, is also a regular visitor to the estate. Max, a sculptor of some acclaim, is the patriarch and like several of the other characters, has a deep, dark secret that he fears sharing with the family. Everything comes to a head when Max is talked into a gallery show in Paris.
This is a story of a family whose members lives are intertwined even as adults. The author wrote another family saga, A Bordeaux dynasty, and there are similarities between the 2 books. She understands that family dynamics that begin in childhood often continue into adulthood.

The tale of a selfish patriarch,Max, whose ego is fed by his former fame as a sculptor, and his family. Max's son Ian falls to his death in front of him. Ian's wife, Daphne continues her relationship with the family and frequently visits their enclave in the south of France. Dimitri is drawn to his widowed sister-in-law. Basically, the plot is predictable, but characters are believable. Most questions are answered, but the reader is left to speculate about Nelly's final reaction to the real reason for Ian's death and, though Anton's loyalty is explained as Nelly being like a mother to him, some of his motivation needs fleshed out a bit. All in all, a good book for a rainy night. I have not been compensated in any way (other than being given a copy of this book to review) and my opinion on the book is entirely my own.

Although this was a good story line, I did not like the way it flowed. One minute your reading about one character and then the next something totally different. Even though this was about Dimitri and Daphne, I really liked the story of Max and Nelly.

Peut-on vraiment être déçu par un livre de Françoise Bourdin ? Encore une fois on retrouve là les recettes qui font son succès, sans surprendre toutefois, mais l'histoire est sympathique !
