We all have the capacity for intuitive insight; in fact, intuition is already within us - whether we are aware of it or not. Having intuition doesn’t involve having psychic powers or having to visualize white lights coming out of our heads. These common “new age” style techniques are not at all necessary to develop our intuition. In some cases, these techniques further impair our capacity to be intuitive simply because it can add more clutter into our minds. Developing your intuition is not about adding more or wanting more, it’s about throwing things out and wanting less – when we have cultivated a healthy space within, we can hear, see and feel our intuition more clearly. This book will help you to understand what intuition is and why it is an important part of our lives. It will outline some very simple and progressive steps to take in order to de-clutter the mind so that you can become more aware and sensitive to your intuitive abilities.
Michael is passionate about self-health care, Oriental philosophy applied to modern living, self-directed education and embracing the human potential.
He holds a Bachelor of Health Science from Charles Sturt University, an Advanced Diploma in Acupuncture from the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences and a level 2, yoga teacher certificate from the Byron yoga centre. He has been teaching yoga since 2008 and was a lecturer of Oriental medicine and Chinese medical massage (Tui-Na) at the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences from 2014-2015.
In his early twenties, he suffered from regular migraine headaches, depression and chronic lower back pain, which he overcame primarily through the practices of yoga, relaxation and meditation.
Michael was always attracted to eastern philosophy and it was this interest that drew him to the teachings and practices of yoga, martial arts and Oriental medicine at a young age. After traveling to China to teach English for a year, he returned to Australia in 2004 to begin studying Chinese medicine, remedial massage and practicing Oki-Do yoga (Japanese yoga form developed by Dr. Masahiro Oki) under the guidance of Peter Masters.
Inspired by the teachings of many he has learned that a lighthearted and nurturing approach to life serves best.
Michael’s other interests include music, dance, circus arts, reading, traveling, spending time in nature & drinking cups of tea.
As a collection of calming activities, this short book can be informative. It is less so as a presentation on ‘intuition.’
The book presents intuition as ‘simply a deep knowing or feeling that compels spontaneous action’ (28%) Intuition doesn’t come from, or through, the mind, although intuition may use mental constructs like words. It arises because human ‘nervous systems are electrical systems which are plugged directly into the electrical systems of the universe (the field). Intuition spontaneously arises within humans’ (52%)
There is no evidence or reason given for believing that humans are coupled up to a ‘field’ which feeds them information. The book just assumes it, and asserts it.
Generally intuition can be viewed in two ways. It can be taken as an alternative form of perception, like ESP (Extra sensory perception), which is alleged to acquire information which the normal senses cannot acquire (eg mind reading, etc).
The other model of intuition views it as a type of subconscious reasoning. It is not a way of acquiring information, but it is a way of processing information which has been acquired through the normal senses, to reach new conclusions.
This book seems to view intuition as a source of information, and it recommends ‘de-cluttering’ activities to free up the mind, so that people can access this unique source of information.
But there is no discussion of the two different models of intuition, and there is no argued case for preferring the one model of intuition to the other. The book just assumes that one particular model is ‘obviously’ correct.
The book also makes assumptions about the accuracy and reliability of ‘intuition.’ It insists that ‘No harm can come from following your intuition, because it is leading you to where no harm can come’(35%). This is circular (fallacious) reasoning. Intuition is safe because it is… safe.
But is intuition really a safe and accurate source of information? People generally rely upon perception, but optical illusions show that even that can let people down. So what reason have we got for treating intuition as a kind of infallible source of information. The book gives no reason, other than asserting that it is so.
Ultimately, if intuition leads you astray then the book insists that it is your fault for not listening to it properly (78%). But how does the book know that to be true? Perhaps intuition is like perception, and can err? If so isn’t the book dangerous and irresponsible to recommend that people blindly trust intuition ?
Overall, this book is an expression of the author’s opinions about intuition, but it presents no reasons for believing them to be true. It doesn’t discuss alternative views and it leaves the reader potentially blindly trusting an intuition which it gives no justification for doing.
I like this person's work & what was said about intuition being a sensation throughout the whole body. That sensation in my people is usually a mutation which seems to be caused by radiation and the effect on the lymphatic system. Have I met the author? He seems to look familiar, like he might be part of the old scene. I keep being thrown free books and they're all people who I might know but prolly don't or wouldn't remember.
I need a few spice pills to clean mine out. Onion or Garlic extract. I was poisoned with a few yeasts to keep it down that ESP developed near the wolf creek facility. That kind of radiation with a natural filter of soy leaves : is what theoretically sort of has everyone reading each others minds.
Developing Your Intuition: Five Simple Steps to Help you Live a More Intuitive Life by Michael Hetherington delivered on what it proposed to deliver, which is a straightforward guide to becoming more in tune with your intuition. As Hetherington points out many times, this book doesn't include a lot of the New Age "third eye opening", "psychic awakening" stuff that you find in a lot of books on this topic. Rather, it is more about going with your gut and minimizing the amount of thoughts going on in your head. Do *I* have a problem with overthinking and often ignoring my "gut feelings" because I talk myself out of them? Yes. Yes, I do... And if you do too, this book may help.
This is the kind of book that I need to keep on my Kindle, just so I can reference it as needed. It is packed with lots of information, some general and some more specific, about getting in touch with your intuition. I really liked that at the back it had some ideas for how to physically and mentally access your subconscious. I think I need to read this book a few more times for some of the ideas to really sink in. I really recommend reading it if you are interested in the subject matter.
I liked this book but just not for me . I appreciate his ideas about intuition but I do believe it's different for everyone. I didn't get much from this book but someone else may. I'm quite intuitive and received my spiritual gifts at the age of 8. Lately, I needed to everyone and I was hoping this book could help. Again, I appreciate what has worked for him and for sharing all his success with it.
I will definitely refer back to this book. There are so many easy simple steps to learn from. This author doesn't have to go very deeply in to learning about intuition he's made it very simply clear what our intuition is and also shown a few exercises for instance yoga meditation. Thank you.
Quick read that is highly informational and straight to the point. I quite enjoy how the author debunks the psychic aspect of intuition and focuses on the natural side of it.
Thank you for such a beautifully presented book. It contains practical tips and is written concisely, quick and easy to read and use. Thank you so much, it has helped me to understand intuition better 😊
I am a sucker for books of this kind even though they leave me with an empty so what type of feeling. This book is a bit of an exception as it mainly lacks pretension and places the onus on the wannabe intuitive to develop their skills through a series of meditation techniques.
The opaqueness stems from the authors description of a magnetic field from which all intuitive thought is channelled from and it sounded like garbled nonsense.
However not a bad way to idle away a dull bus ride. It must have grabbed my attention as if I hadn't intuitively looked up I would have missed my stop.
This was simply not what I was hoping for based on the book's description and for that I gave it a low rating, though it was free, that's the only thing good I can say about it. I'm into some new age theories and I love reading/learning about many different theories and beliefs because I feel like it strengthens my own views by challenging and confirming or changing them. That being said, I did not agree/believe in a majority of this book and I feel like it lacked the depth/knowledge/details to even challenge my views.
A good introduction to tuning into your body and inner sense for people who have not listened to their gut in their adulthood.
If you are already an open minded person who has been listening to your inner senses, then this will seem very simplistic. However, since it is only a very short read, you might consider it a refresher if you’ve been feeling out of touch lately.
Practical, fast, and an easy to read book to help you become more aware of your intuition. His method of body scanning was well explained and is a great way to tune into your body.
I loved that Mr. Hetherington got right to the point. While the book is short, it is packed with useful information presented in a conversational style that is easy and enjoyable to read.
Easy to read and best of all logical! Very insightful and is already making a difference in my life! Thanks so much to Mr. Hetherington for writing this fabulous book!!
