Catherine Cloud writes queer sports fiction with a lot of kissing and Golden Retrievers. Yes, there's actual hockey in the books. And, yes, all those Golden Retrievers are totally necessary.

Reread 11/2024
So many glimpses at all of Catherine Cloud's couples in new chapters or from different pov's.
Awesome.

For now I read all the stories about Blake/Elliot, Shane/Brady, Morgan/Noah.

Lovely and entertaining.
Some chapters are told from a different pov than in the original books, others are chapters that feel like epilogues and additional epilogues to the original books.

I'll get back to it once I've read The same old streets, and look for the chapters connected to it.

Inhaled it. This is probably only good for fans who’ve read everything the author ever wrote including her fantastic AO3 series (especially the miles are just an afterthought and thesameoldstreets which are finished storylines, if that matters to you) and maybe read it twice. It me, so hello five stars.

Of the new material, ‘It’s for Charity’ is nearly 50 pages of sheer delight. It’s worth the price of the book alone, smile-wise.

Re-read - I highly recommend starting on A03 and reading all the series first -because they're really good- I enjoyed this book more after refamiliarising myself with the characters. Instead of wanting certain characters I got more out of each story.
I love Shane! Great to get Noah pov. Need to see Blake M win the cup. The Casey/Mattie short was exactly the extra their book needed.
And yes, the dogs :)

.. ..
Strange buying a book of extras for a series that is partly free on A03. But I love many of these characters and they're a great comfort read, so more? Yes, please!

I was a bit lost remembering exactly who was from which story, I think some side characters we're yet to meet. But there are some lovely extras with great friendships as well as great relationships.
I warmed a bit to a character I was less keen on and loved seeing more of others and of course their dogs. I'm easily won over by great dog writing and this series contains the goodest dogs getting all the appreciation they deserve.

Really hope for more books and updates. Currently one of my very few auto-buy authors.

Wow, so I got this just as a completionist, and then fell in love with the shorts about Noah/Morgan and Casey/Matthias (I need more!!), but then I started reading some of the other shorts and got surprisingly invested in these characters I didn't know about? And then I wound up reading all of Cloud's backlist and coming back and rereading a bunch of this, and now I'm just obsessed.

It's so fun getting a lot of these little snippets, or scenes from different characters perspectives. Especially when it's from someone I wasn't expecting! And I really, really loved Nick/Alex's story together. I don't really read stuff on AO3, but this absolutely got me going back and reading Cloud's works that are published there, too, and yeah, I'm so obsessed. This was altogether a great collection of beautiful fan service while also expanding the stories or giving us lovely views into some of these characters' lives after their main story has ended.

More Alex, Nicky, Morgan, Noah, Shane, and Brady, etc. I mean, of course I loved it!!!

To make this make sense, you really need to read these first:
- Love & Other Inconveniences
- Three is the Luckiest Number
- Caught off Guard
- The same old streets (AO3)
- The miles are just an afterthought (Ao3)

But honestly if you like the others but haven’t read the two AO3 stories, you are really missing out. These are my new favourite m/m comfort reads.

This book is a collection of short stories all set in Catherine Cloud's hockey universe so it's pretty essential to have read those to enjoy/understand these. I for one loved getting to see many of the characters I love again and where they are post their original books! I just wish we got something with Adrian and Jason but sadly we did not.
