My biggest qualm with this particular version was the many spelling mistakes which sometimes made it difficult to understand what the characters were saying.
I have wanted to read Othello for a long time now. But the original version, although more eloquent and poetic, is incomprehensible to me. So I was overjoyed to be able to read one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies in modern English.
And if this book can be considered a masterpiece then Iago was by far the key element to making this story so macabre and sorrowful. Iago must be one of the best fictional villains I have ever encountered. The way he used everyone, manipulated everyone to get what he desired. He was behind almost every death in the book yet only killed one person with his own two hands. He would have gotten away with all his scheming and trickery if not for this victim, his wife Emilia. This book shows how far some people will go to get what they want.
Overall, I was intrigued and holding onto my seat for what was always coming next. Shakespeare did a brilliant job and this is definitely one of his biggest tragedies.
I can only imagine what other sorrows and horrors Shakespeare has in store for me in his next play that I will read.
