Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh, two of bin Laden’s key the masterminds behind the attacks of September 11. Based on the only interview these masterminds of terror ever gave to the media as well as extensive follow-up research, Capture or Kill may be the closest we will get to the full inside story of the plot. While Mohammed and Binalshibh were among the world’s most wanted men and hiding in a safe house in Pakistan, they summoned star al-Jazeera TV reporter Yosri Fouda for a one-of-a-kind exclusive. Fouda knew he might well be walking into a trap, as Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl had done only months before.
He took the risk, and, for forty-eight hours, Fouda listened as Mohammed, head of al-Qaeda’s military committee, and Binalshibh, the link between Mohammed Atta and the senior al-Qaeda leadership, proudly claimed responsibility for the attacks on New York and the Pentagon—the first time al-Qaeda took direct responsibility—and detailed for the first time exactly how the plot was conceived and executed.
The authors, uniquely positioned because of their prior unprecedented access and research, deliver a thrilling account of what has happened since. What has changed in the intervening years to this insidious global network? How does Osama bin Laden’s capture and death affect its continuing operation? This is a must-read for anyone who wants to know not only the full truth behind September 11, but also the implications of recent events for the future of global security.
This is such an intriguing book filled with details that are so critical to the events leading up to 9/11. This book gave a deeper insights on the inner workings of al-Qaeda & its operations throughout Muslim countries.
I cannot imagine what the author has to go through in order to gain such important pieces of information & evidences of al-Qaeda. It is surprising to me that the terrorist group would have tremendous motivation to go to such great length to make sure their mission to take revenge of America is accomplished in the end, under the name of religion. To so-called, give the USA a big thigh slap to their faces, revealing all of America's hypocrisy when it comes to human rights, war crimes & many other major offences throughout the centuries. They are not wrong, but neither their actions are right either. And USA is far from being a "fair, just" country either. And the assumptions that Muslims supported the terrorist is far from the truth...they were actually victims of al-Qaeda. The terrorist attacks their own Muslim people!
I am also VERY shocked to find out that the terrorist are not just from Afghanistan who may be illiterate & ill-educated as well as village-like mindset, but turns out, they are highly-educated, western-educated & comes from developed countries like UK. How can intelligent, very bright, western-educated & nice people turn out to be a terrorist & carry out jihad??? I am still until now, reeling about this fact...those who read this book will understand why.
Anyhow, I really admire the author Fouda, who was so courageous & brave in facing the terrorist alone by himself while still keeping it secret from the officials & even his own media company which he works for. The author has done a great job in compiling the necessary information, sequence of events & even the detailed backgrounds of each terrorist with care. Not only did he had to fight the internal battle that is going on within him, the mental agony of knowing but having to keep it secret & his own morality & safety, as well as having to face backlash & rumors from the public is too much for anyone to bear. Yet he delivered the story successfully in the end.
I am so glad that I picked up this book & even though I did skip some parts because there's overload of information that I'm not curious to study, I still enjoyed the book like a thriller action book & gained a deeper understanding about the war.
It is amazing to learn the events and planning of 9/11. The culprits were able to roam the globe in plain sight, without suspicion! The U.S. must do better!
