“The world ended two days after I ran away from home. Not my world, The world. But it wasn’t my fault. I swear. “
Luke Sinclair is left alone in an empty world where almost everyone has died. After spending two years searching out the few remaining people he discovers Brie Osborn and her fellow survivors. But at eighteen he isn’t ready to settle down no matter how pretty the girl is. However, after discovering three children trapped in an evil situation he reluctantly accepts the responsibility of saving them. Unfortunately, Brie would be vital to his success.
Two teenagers and three children being chased by evil men in a world gone mad. A world without anything that they had come to depend upon. Nothing works as it should. There is no authority to turn to. Only two people doing the right thing. Sometimes, heroism is forced on a person. How they accept that responsibility can determine everything. They soon discover a world without heroes is not a world worth having.
Nate Johnson does tell a good story. Both book 1 and this one, book 2 have well-told stories.
Also, both books have something else in common. Lots of typos that would be missed by a spell checker. And, Nate Johnson is not exactly a grammarian! Some examples:
“a park ranger who’d beet (been) stuck up on Mount Hood,”
“Nicole, Alice, your (you’re) up.”
“he finished his bear (beer) then passed me another one.”
“I froze, kids where (were) rare.”
“Where (we’re) ready,”
“table clothes” Is that a thing?
“Buck particularly enjoyed the chard (charred) skin.”
That’s enough. You get the idea.
I read another book about an EMP that knocked out The power grid, all newer cars and electronics. The group had a long journey ahead so they found bicycles. Did the author of this book not think of that? Bicycles instead of a 100 mile walk?
I struggle with character consistency. Luke traveled up & down the coast over 2 years after the pandemic and probably seen & been involved in horrific situations, yet he stumbles upon 3 kids, 2 girls of which we knew 1 was being raped by an older man who killed his parents but doesn't feel compelled to kill them even after they tried to kill him and are chasing him and the kids. He couldn't be that dumb. And the ending was the worse yet. Luke goes back and saves the live of the killer/kidnapper/rapist and says he probably can't come back because his 1 arm was useless. Too bad the book didn't tell the story of Luke telling the kids that.

~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book.~
Unfortunately, unlike the first book, this book has WAY too much focus on finding love. I liked the first book because it was about survival. Romance was there, but it was a side plot. If you like romance in the post-apocalypse, you might like this more than I did. If it wasn’t about teenagers, I might have been more okay with the romance, but I’m not that into books about teens falling in love. Don’t get me wrong, there is survival, but there is such a focus on how they are attracted to each other and how they already fell in love after just meeting.
Jordan W Hopkins continues to do a good job narrating.
It’s truly impossible for this awesome author Nate Johnson to disappoint. If it’s a Space Science Fiction or World Ending genres he captures your attention from the beginning to the end of each of his books with his amazing imagination and his incredible penmanship.
The choosing of Jordan W. Hopkins for narration was as usual the right one.
Absolutely brilliant, and without a doubt got my recommendation !
The story is good with lots of potential but after getting through the second book I’m not sure I will last much longer. Editing still badly needed but the illogical actions of both Nick and now Luke is driving me nuts!! Sparing a life is commendable but when doing so bites you in the behind repeatedly and puts everyone at extreme risk it ruins the book. The ending of this one is an example. I mean, Luke, after pulling that stupid stunt on Brie, you did what with Shorty/Steve?? Really messed up finish!!! I’ve started book three but doubt I will read much further.
Is 16 year old Luke runs out of his house after having a fight with his dad goes up in the mountains and 3 months later discovered that the world has gone dead due to the virus. Well traverse in the country on his motorcycling runs in to the people Or should I say kids from the church camp in Pennsylvania and he finds them in Colorado. A good read with lots of action
I am really enjoying this series. The characters are interesting and well developed. The characters are all young people who have to learn to survive. There is no ex military character, with skills, to teach them. There is action and suspense. The books are hard to put down. The only negative, is the books are in need of a lot of editing...big errors! If you can get past those, you will enjoy this series.
Clearly a YA novel. The plot is basically a clone of its predecessor except designed to turn one of the less developed characters in the first novels into another pretty girl finding her Prince Charming. The strongest female characters still need a strong young alpha male with the help of his betas to fight and protect them. Then, the alpha male who gallantly resisted his teenage hormones and those of the top female to marry her.
This is a young adult book set after a pandemic and follows on from book 1. The proofreading is still very problematic. Multiple instances of the wrong there/their/they’re and strangely phrased sentences. The plot was not as interesting as the first book which counteracted the terrible proofreading. I won’t be bothering with a book 3.
I didn't think he could outdo his first of the series, but he did. What a great story. Once again all the action and adventure you would want in one book. Plus another great love story that made you laugh and turn right around and cry. Another beautiful ending to a great story. I recommend reading to all.
What can I say about this book The End of the Beginning which is the second book in the The End of Everything series apart from the fact that it's amazing and I loved it... it's so easy to read and it's a continuous page-turner. I totally recommend reading it.
There’s just something about this writers style that I like. The characters are well-developed, believable and flawed. The plot lines are well established and flow pleasingly. I imagine the inference to the girls’ shampoo scent is a nod to a special lady. Well done! I’m looking forward to the next one.
The amount of spelling and grammatical errors was annoying. They spelled Meghan 4 different ways - all the same person. Somebody needs to find a better editor.
But - the story itself is great. I highly enjoyed this book and the previous one, despite the spelling and grammar.
I enjoyed this book better than previous ones because there were less glaring grammar errors. The hero in the black leather jacket along with a dog named Buck and a girl who is longing for her soul mate work together to rescue three kids from an abusive situation.
There’s no Alice. It’s Ashley. Nate has a good storyline. But needs to get a good editor. Maybe some beta readers. This is awful. I’m not even 50 pages in and I’m considering not finishing.
This would of been a good book if it hadn’t turned into a teen romance halfway through. I was interested in the setup of the group and how they were living and the rescue of the kids but the childish “does he like me or doesn’t he” just threw it all off for me.
I an ancient old man with children and grandchildren found this book to be an excellent read. I’m sharing it with my children and letting them decide how old their children will be before they let them read it. I think they will all enjoy the series.
Good ideas in this book. Does need an edit, wrong words used at times and punctuation isn't always correct. It is a series. This story does have a HEA but we see the characters in the next book.
In this book the main character, the Hero meets up with book 1 people.
Readers should take heart This story shows there is always hope Somewhere in our future. I do realize That life It's not like this For everyone But hopefully there is a Brie and Luke in their future!
Enjoyed this storyline. The story pulls you in and keeps you turning the page. Hope the remaining series v continues to NJ include this group of people.
