How can any red-blooded woman pass up a book with the title “Don’t Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes”? The latest offering by Dixie Cash is a hilarious caper starring two of the most unlikely private eyes you’d ever want to meet: Debbie Sue Overstreet and Edwina Perkins-Martin, owners of the Styling Station Beauty Salon in Salt Lick, Texas! I would definitely classify this book in the genre of madcap mystery.
I began smiling when I read the title. I began giggling and snorting from page 2. After that it was pretty much laughter all the way to the final page. These two are a hoot and a half! If you like big hair and can say “y’all” without having to think about it, then this is definitely a book you need to read. Although my first by this author, this is actually the fourth book in the Debbie Sue series. First was “Since You’re Leaving Anyway, Take Out The Trash!”, followed by “My Heart May Be Broken, but My Hair Still Looks Great”, then came “I Gave You My Heart, but You Sold It Online”, and now “Don’t Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes”. Believe you me, the books are just as funny as the titles indicate.
Debbie Sue is an ex-Pro Barrel Racing Rodeo Queen. The love of her life is her husband (for the second time) Buddy Overstreet. Cash’s earlier books tell more of the story of Debbie Sue and Buddy’s tangled relationship while Debbie Sue stumbles into the private investigation business. In the current book, Debbie Sue and Edwina get invited to speak at the National Association of Private Investigators annual conference being held in New York City. They’ve obviously hit the big time and neither Debbie Sue and Edwina nor New York City will ever be the same!
They become mixed up in a serial murder case when Edwina befriends a professional prostitute at their hotel bar. Murder, mayhem, and hilarity ensue as Debbie Sue and Edwina pit their Texan stubbornness and sense of justice against pretty much the entire public safety system in New York City. Their hijinks involve the police, the bomb squad, the fire department, and emergency services. They even manage to befriend a fellow Texan and abet her budding romance in between investigating, giving a speech, shopping, and the occasional drunken brawl!
Once you pick up this book, you just can’t put it down. The action and laughter are non-stop and her writing style is addictive. If you enjoy mystery and comedy, don’t miss “Don’t Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes” by Dixie Cash. Our ladies are headed to New York City to speak at a convention of detectives. Before you get too excited the title given to them is Detecting for Dummies. They quickly prove them wrong by solving a crime none of the great detectives of NYPD could figure out.

This book had my laughing at bunch. The best laugh I had in a while was when Edwina and Debbie Sue were in the airport. Let's just say Ed and the meds you take for motion sickness are not something to mix together.
In the end, Debbie Joe and Edwina get their man with a little help from a NY cop and a Texas librarian.

Another funny adventure to the series, Debbie Sue and Edwina, this time are in New York City. They are invited to a Private Investigator conference in New York City. Buddy can't go as he is studying for his Texas Ranger test but thinks she will stay out of trouble as the place will be full of lawmen and P.I.'s. Well that's never going to happen.
They get embroiled in hijinx, murder and mayhem. They befriend a fellow Texas gal who is on her own and a prostitute they meet in the bar. There is romance for the new girl and vindication for the Domestic Equalizers as they solve the murder and help catch the killer.

I don't know that you need to be a Texan to enjoy this as my Scottish born husband and I had to stay up until it was finished! Maybe you just have to enjoy laughing. What we have is two lady investigators/beauticians who have been invited to New York City as guest speakers at a conference for professional investigators or those who think they might want to enter the field. And in the city we have a killer of prostitues. Now how can you mix this up to be funning? I won't tell but I will recommend you get a copy! ('just beware of drinking while consuming or you may spew!)

DNF. Through gritted teeth I finished the first CD of this audiobook. It’s awful. I’ve been trying for three days to think of some words negative enough to describe my reaction to this book and it is just beyond words. The characters are all stupid, airheaded, naïve country bumpkins supposedly from Texas who have never been out of their own backyard. I was born in Texas and I’ve lived here most of my life. This is so insulting to Texas women that I honestly don’t know what else to say. It’s going in my “avoid this author” category.

The 4th installation of Edwina (Ed) and Debbie Sue's life in Salt Lick Texas. this time the ladies are on their way to NY for a PI convention as speakers. Of course someone dies while they are there and they help solve the crime.

I absolutely love this series! This one was another wild ride with best friends and co workers Debbie Sue and Edwina. I like to think this series is like Thelma and Louise trying to be redneck Nancy Drew's! So much fun!

I am now on the Boarders band wagon! They keep Dixie Cash books in regular fiction not romance!! Fun book that was pretty easy to predict but love the hiumor and the bigger than life TEas gals!

Book 4 of the Domestic Equalizers might be my favorite one yet. Edwina and Debbie Sue are invited to speak at a private investigators conference in New York City (my face city!). Selena (a name I love), a librarian (like me!!!) in small town Dime Box, also attends the conference. These 3 women loose in NYC causes lots of laughs and gasps, as they deal with a murder. I would’ve given this book 5 stars...but there was one part that annoyed me some. There’s a scene where the radio comes on accidentally in the night and it’s blasting a Tejano song by “Pequeño Joe”...as a Tejano music fan, I must point out that if the authors were referring to an actual Tejano musician, this artist goes by Little Joe, regardless if he’s being referred to in English and Spanish. There are other musicians mentioned in this series, and their real names are used, so I would like to think that if the authors were being consistent that they would’ve known to use the term Little and not Pequeño. Aside from that, great book!!

I first read this book years ago. It was a fun book full of action and humorous situations. Two hairdressers who like to work as Private Investigators in a small town in Texas get invited to speak at a National Association of Private Investigators Convention in New York.
Celine Phillips a librarian from another smalltown in Texas also travels to New York to attend the conference, hoping one day to become a Private Investigator.
Set in 2006, mostly in New York. I loved the descriptions of clothes and shoes and the interactions between characters.

Dixie Chicks in New York City!
Isn't there a saying about you can't take country out of the girl but you can take the girl out of the country and that is what happens in Book 4. Between meeting another a young woman from a small town in Texas, new police officer, a killing seemed right in place and the girls team up and handle the business as usual with lots of laughter, common sense and bit of romance and a whole lot of pure luck!!

Another very funny episode in the Domestic Equalizers mystery series, this book sees the friends, plus an additional acquaintance, attending a conference in New York City. Of course, they get into lots of trouble, help out their new acquaintance, find out about a murder, and ultimately solve that murder. This story is a good read with lots of laughs along the way.

Probably more like 3 1/2 stars, but it’s worth bumping up to the next level. Some of the situations they found themselves were absolutely hilarious and the solution to how to get the police to look in the trunk was somewhere between ingenious and ridiculous, but you can’t say that those two gals don’t know how to have fun
