The secrets Scarlett Fareview has hidden from her family are finally out in the open, but not without consequences. Alienating everyone she loves, she must face the hurt and betrayal she wrought with her duplicity. And the cost is high. In the Shadow of a Vow is the first in a series of novellas where the Fareveiws deal with the aftermath of Scarlett’s deception. Scarlett must face Tomas and her children. This story is one of three bridge the gap between the end of In the Shadow of a Dream and the final book in the Fareview saga, In the Shadow of an Obsession.
Maci Aurora also writes as CL Walters, the author of several published books for YA readers. She’s been writing stories since she was a child. At eleven, she fell in love with reading Sunfire Historical Romances about girls who made a difference in their lives and still fell in love. Then in high school, a friend introduced her to Lavyrle Spencer and Judith McNaught, and those stories cemented her writing journey to telling stories about love. Maci writes in Hawaiʻi where she lives with her husband, their children, and their fur-babies. This is her 8th novel.
Wow, wow, wow, I loved In The Shadow Of A Vow! In this novella, there's no more room for any secrets or lies. Readers finally have the chance to know Scarlett's whole story! Plus, they have the opportunity to get to know Tomas better. And I I need you to trust me when I say that you WANNA know him better. I guarantee that, starting about halfway through the book, you'll suddenly forget about Scarlett's secrets and you'll be veeeery captivated by Tomas' story instead. The truth is, whether you're more interested in Scarlett's past or in Tomas' present, this novella is unputdownable and it will keep you glued to the page from the beginning to the end!
I'm partial, but I love this second-chance, midlife romance. Scarlett of the Fareview Fairytales series finally shares her secrets, but there's a cost to her duplicity and she's at risk of losing everyone she loves, including her husband, due to her lies. I love how this is an older couple long into their marriage and they have to work through the conflict together to determine what way is forward.
I read this novella as part of In the Shadow of the Truth but I still bought both versions because I loved this novella so much. This explained a lot of the mystery of the first three books (yay some answers). Scarlett and Tomas were too cute.
I found Scarlett’s story super distracting in the last two books of the series. So I was glad this novella was solely hers. She went through a lot and it helps explain her actions. Although I was a bit shocked to see Tomas was touched by magic as well. I was so drawn into the story I read it in one sitting, which is a feat for me. I know there are more novellas coming that deal with more of the fallout of Scarlett’s actions and I cannot wait.
Love that this was a second-chance romance of older adults. A married couple who has to renegotiate their relationship in light of mistakes. There’s a touch of magic, but this is mostly about revelation of Scarlett’s secrets and her realization of how important Tomas is to her.
