This is another lovely book by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, based on their Bible series (which I also recommend).
I like the authors' idea to view the Bible as a love letter from God to all of us, it has a kind of Solomonic quality to phrase it like that.
I didn't know what to expect and it wasn't a personal anecdote and interpretation to each Bible verse presented in this book. I actually really enjoyed that approach because it made me think about both the verse, and her story, AND then helped me reflect about my own stories and musings in relation to the Bible quote.

Downey offers a new and refreshing perspective on human issues like disappointment, wanting to be rescued, and why hard things happen. Her takes are always so filled with love and well-meaning, which I find so inspiring, and which, truth be told, often make me cry. They're good tears, though.

I'd read the Bible many times before and never could get into it. Roma Downey is a huge part of how I started reading the Bible and it finally started making sense to me. The key to that is to approach it with love.

This was just okay. It is always good to start your day with scripture but not my favorite book to do that with.

I picked this book hope because I so enjoyed the Bible mini-series on television. I have also read (but not year reviewed) the novel that goes along with the TV mini-series, The Story of God and All of Us: A Novel.

The beautiful color photograph stills taken on-set for the television series are gorgeous inclusions in this book. However, the devotionals seemed a little "light" on substance to me. I was glad that the author (Roma, I think more than Mark) included day-to-day events from the production of the television series, as a starting point for each devotional. But, I did not think that the daily event was tied strongly enough to some Biblical or inspirational point that would apply to a wide audience. It was more like reading someone else's personal devotional journal...not a devotional book written for others.

Don't get me wrong. The material is good, just not as great as I hoped; thus, I give the 3 star rating.

I do hope to see other projects by this dynamic couple. Do so enjoy the TV series Touched By an Angel and the Bible series, too.

A wonderful devotional, particularly is you've watched the mini-series, "The Bible" by Downey and Burnett.
