Monster Smut #1

Getting Freaky With Frankenstein

Rate this book
It's 1955, and Lucy is an American university student, studying folklore and myths in the small, strange town of Thornwick, England, when she stumbles across a mysterious book. Out of academic curiosity, she follows the steps of a spell in it -- only to find that she's awakened Frankenstein's monster from the legend of yore! But when sparks start to fly between her and Frank, she's worried that her fairytale might be turning into a nightmare...

"Getting Freaky With Frankenstein" is the first issue of Monster Smut, a series of stand-alone paranormal monster romance novellas. This is a "story within a story," originating from the world of Atomic Wasteland! -- a science fiction romance novel series. "Getting Freaky With Frankenstein" is featured as a plot point in Book 2!

*You DON'T have to read Atomic Wasteland! to understand or enjoy this story -- but if you dig this, you might just dig that! Plus, it's a pretty fun exercise in world-building.

Girl…read book…resurrected Frankenstein (Frank)…and he ate pie. Not that kinda pie, you perverts. Like actual pie. And he could cook a mean pancake, too. I enjoyed how this deviated from the typical erotica, even giving us dual POVs from both Frank and Lucy. Oh, and Lucy is a ‘wirgin’ (Think back to Monster Squad), and this big, sexy, muscular patchwork god had the privilege of plucking her dainty flower. Sounds classy, right? The story was good and fun, but there were some missed opportunities. When Frank dropped trou, it would have been amazing if his member was all stitched up and looked like a massacred bratwurst. Could’ve added to the awkwardness of Lucy losing her virginity, but also to a fabled monster…with privates that resembled something Pennywise would turn into to scare an adult. Or better yet, when he ejaculated, it could have just been a dust plume. Or his tongue fell out when he was grooming her. I know that I’m getting really vulgar here, but some additional humor would’ve been a great addition to the story. But the electricity tidbit that Lucy experienced was fantastic. So, no surprise, there is a ton of sex here. All done fairly well, which is the most important aspect of a book like this. But there was some semblance of a plot, too, which just made it all come full circle. I’m new to Tabitha Lovelace, but she’s got a new fan in Peter Topside. And I’m eager to read the next book in this series, focused on a filthy Krampus planting his evil seeds all over. And, on a side note, I also greatly appreciated her divulging that she is neurodivergent, which I am proudly, as well. Great minds think alike!

DNF 10%. I’ve read two really well written books in a row and I can’t go back to this garbage. The cover was campy but the rest was barely readable.

I’m going to link to my petition to ban more than five uses of ellipses in any work of fiction. Five is your max authors, FIVE… use them wisely.

This book was a joy to read! It was short and sweet — but filled with so much steamy spice and cuteness! The more “Frankenstein” type monsters aren’t what I would usually gravitate towards in my monster romance novels , but I actually really ENJOYED this story!

Frank and Lucy were loveable both as individuals and as intimate partners and I’m a sucker for a big ‘ole cinnamonroll of a MMC who is gentle and kind but who can turn the heat up when he wants to. The world was fleshed out nicely considering the length of the book, and surprisingly, nothing felt overly rushed, which was nice!

The spice was GREAT! And parts of it had me feeling all flushed, which was fantastic! There was dirty talk (a personal favourite of mine), popping of cherries and then the “shock” (pun completely intended) of some electro-stimulation which was a pleasant surprise, something I didn’t know I was into until reading this and sitting there going “huh, well, that actually seems like FUN!”

There really aren’t any triggers in this book — and it’s a very easy and fun little read. The ones I’ve listed below are very VERY minimal and more generalised themes rather than actual triggers, but I’ll list them anyways.

‘Getting Freaky With Frankenstein’ was a great quick read that’s perfect to read in one sitting — it has humour, loveable characters and deliciously electric spice that flows effortlessly. I would recommend this book and I look forward to reading more in this new monster romance series. 4/5 stars!!

It's smutt. What else are you expecting? There are so many underdeveloped plot lines and a forced conflict. My biggest issue was the dialog. If this is supposed to take place in the 50's and the creature was dead since the 1700s, then why would they talk like they walked out of a 2000's movie?

This definitely isn't what I normally read, but being a bookstagramer, you find new genres and books that pique your interest for one reason or another. This happened to be one of those books for me. I will say that with this being the first monster smut I have read, I did enjoy it. It was a quick, fun, and spicy read.

Honestly it's pretty kitschy but in a good way. You knew what the book was when you picked it up 😅

If you're looking for a short, sweet, and to the point monster smut book that is a good read and enjoyable this will definitely fill that spot.

First of all, this is part of her Monster Smut series. Seriously look, it says Monster Smut right on the top. Ms. Lovelace wants you to know what you’re getting into right from the jump.

The TDLR here is that Lucy is a grad student in 1955 who has traveled to a small town in England to study myths and legends for her thesis. While there she finds an ancient witchy tomb and thinks, hey this spell looks easy lemme try it. Well she ends up reanimating Frankensteins monster.

Props to Tabitha for explaining that the monster in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein isn’t named Frankenstein, that’s the doctor who created him. Also did you know that Mary Shelley wrote that book as basically part of a drunken dare? Seriously, she and her hubby were hanging with Lord Byron and he was all “let’s all write our own gothic ghost stories” and she was like “bet”.

Ok back to THIS Frankenstein. Lucy brings the monster to life and is like, huh he’s kinda hot. She starts to call him Frank since he didn’t have a name, and it turns out Frank is actually very sweet and misunderstood and just wants to be seen as a man and not a monster.

They are living in carnal bliss when all of a sudden Frank leaves because he thinks Lucy is scared of him. He’s exposed to the villagers who form a mob and try to hang him, but little American Lucy is like STOP I LOVE HIM. Then the town is like oh she’s a witch kill her too. Until a guy who is basically the patriarch of the town comes in and is like, um I’m a vampire and y’all accept me, he’s free to go. Actually they can both live in my castle.

Anyway, the part you’ve all been waiting for. Dr. Frankenstein must have used the eggplant of a gigallo to make his monster or something cuz Frank can Fuuuuck.

The best part? Remember how Frankenstein used electricity to animate his monster? Oh yeah, that stuck around and now he’s got an electric dick. Also electric 💦. It’s apparently divine.

Anyhoo, 41/120 pages are smut which is about 34%. Honestly though, with how long and hot the schmexy scenes were I was thinking it was closer to 60%

Tabitha also just released Getting Kinky with Krampus so if you’re in a slutty I mean silly holiday mood check it out. And as always, read at your own risk!

This was just not my fave book. I liked Frank, but we still knew almost nothing about him by the end of the book. He and Lucy had a cute little love story and the smut was fun. The climax of the story was a little unbelievable to me.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: imprisonment (brief), people wanting to execute MMC, mentions of murder in past

A fast-paced monster romance novella 💚

This was a fun and quick read for me! I was able to read it while my kid caught a nap. This is a book for all those lovers of classic monsters out there. The story is short and sweet. It's also the first in the Monster Smut series by Tabitha so there is more monster loving to come.

Tabitha Lovelace sets scenes so beautifully that I felt fully immersed in a gothic 1955 village with the mysterious castle looming in the background (translation: I want to be railed in a magical garden by Frankenstein and then served pancakes). I really enjoyed this one; I just wanted more of Frank's background. I really liked the mysterious side characters and Lucy's confident attitude towards everything.

OH! And the best part? He's electric, and so is his cum. SO MUCH FUN!

Okay, so I wasn’t totally sure what to expect with this one, but it ended up being a pretty fun read. Frank just wants to be loved and feel like he belongs, and honestly, Lucy was perfect for him. She’s so understanding and sweet. It’s spicy, but also really wholesome, which I didn’t see coming. It’s cute, light-hearted, and just an overall enjoyable little story. If you’re looking for something a bit different but still fun, definitely give this one a try!

this was a really interesting concept and could have been great but it fell pretty flat. the plot was pretty contrived and the sex scenes felt corny. also this is supposed to be set in the 50s but it felt very much present day and that distracted from the narrative

Lucy is an American student who unwittingly brings Frankenstein 'Frank' to life in this sweet and spicy romantic tale set in 1950s England.

My first adventure into Monster Romance did not disappoint.

Initially, the story moves swiftly to romance, feeling a bit rushed and a bit too forced, but once there, it develops in a more natural way, with our couole unable to keep their hands off each other 😉

There are some inconsistencies, for example, how Frank has slept for centuries and yet picks up the modern language and a certain american breakfast recipe in what feels like an instance.

I love how the relationship develops and the fact that you get both POVs is fantastic.

All in all, it is a great read 📚 with a great level of spice that keeps coming with such electromagnetism. Enjoy!

Short, sweet and steamy monster romance ⚡️

~ STORY 📝 ~

I had a good time with this book. It's a really cute romance and it's super cozy _ but _ story-wise, I felt like there were inconsistencies. It sometimes felt a little all over the place. 🤔

~ ROMANCE & MAIN CHARACTERS 💖 ~

The romance was somehow cheeky but in a good way 🥰. They're adorable, Frankenstein is this big monster with nothing but sweetness for Lucy (except when things get spicy 😏) and Lucy is so sunshiny and kind. 🙌💗.

~ SPICE 🌶️ ~

If you still need one more reason to read this book: Our dear Frank is still very much electrified from the experiment that woke him up and knows how to use it to please his lady 😏

Well, electricity was a new concept to me but I must say I hope to see it more often 😂🤭.

Also, the two are very much craving each other so it's always hot when the need for each other is up to the roof 😉

ARC Review
As a huge classic Universal monster movie fan I was immediately interested when I saw this book, a Frankenstein romance sounds great!
I really enjoyed the settings and world of the story, being in castles, gardens and forests by moonlight, masquerade balls and libraries, all of my favourites were ticked off in this book and the author has a beautiful, flowery way of describing it all making it romantic and eerie by turns.

I did find the dialogue didn't match up with the skill of the rest of the writing, especially in the steamy scenes, it feels a bit cliche and obvious. It took me out of the story at times that Frank speaks so modern but he's from a couple hundred years ago and the heroine doesn't speak 1950s either. If he had spoken more gallantly it would have really illustrated the difference between them better.

There's lots and lots of spice which includes some electrical elements.

I really enjoyed the idea and all of the outdoors scenes and spooky parts, I felt there was an element missing in the writing somewhere, maybe not enough description of facial expressions or what they were doing while speaking, the writing is really good but there was something that left out a stronger emotional experience for me.

I think this new author is someone to watch, she has great writing skills that I'm sure are going to blossom more as she keeps going.

💚🖤 Getting Freaky with Frankenstein ARC Review 🖤💚

Thank you so much to Tabitha Lovelace for the opportunity to read and review this novella!

Getting Freaky with Frankenstein is a standalone monster romance novella and book one in the Monster Smut series! Lucy is an academic looking for adventure. She’s traveled all the way to Europe to study myths and legends. But when she finds a spell to awaken Mary Shelley’s infamous creation, she learns that the monsters of lore might not be as fictional as she thought…

This was a fun, quick spicy read! I enjoyed that Lucy and Frank became friends before they jumped into the bedroom - it made for a fun dynamic between the two of them. Given that this is a monster smut novella, I wasn’t expecting a lot of plot, but there was solid world building and lore established in this story which was awesome

Overall this was a solid four star read for me! Fun story and characters! I will definitely read more of this series in the future! This was definitely a fast burn with lots of spice throughout, so overall four flames for spice!

If you’re a fan of monster smut with vintage pulp vibes, enjoyable characters, fun world building and lots of spice, then definitely pick this one up!

Getting Freaky with Frankenstein

By Tabitha Love

Release Date: 11/28

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

It is the perfect novella if you love Frankenstein, a gothic atmosphere, dark academia vibes, and good monster smut are for you. I liked how the story was set in the 1955's something different mostly vintage, how an American woman ventures around England to look for myths and stories for her thesis. All the elements in the story were placed in a certain way that made you feel in Frankenstein's movie with a twist of smut.

Some points in the story I would have liked to see more detail to make it more realistic to the time, Lucy's research was left up in the air, and it would have given a better touch to know how that part of her career ended. Tabitha I loved the characters, as they were funny, clever, cute, and all the smut I liked. Frank I add it to the list of monsters with hidden talents at spice time, those little electric touches add something new that I haven't seen elsewhere.

It's a short story, funny, cute, full of smut, and overall a good retelling of Frankenstein. I received this ARC to give my opinion voluntarily.

I think it's safe to say I'm in my Monster Smut Era! 🖤💚🖤💚

The story follows Lucy an American that traveled to Thornwick, England for her studies on Folklore and Myths. While researching she stumbles upon a forgetten book that has spells inside.
"What could go wrong?"
Lucy out of curiosity casts the spell and awakens Frankenstein's monster who just so happens to be located in an attic right above Lucy's room.
Frightened at first Lucy starts to realize that Frank is so much more then how he is portrayed in Mary Shelly's storytelling. He is not only a kind and gentle man, but he is also very attractive and good with his hands.
Frank and Lucy become infatuated with eachother and start to explore these feelings all over Thornwick at night as sparks fly between and through them! 🥵 They fall for each other HARD!

A refreshing and smutty take on Frankenstein. I loved the chemistry between the 2 main characters and how well the storyline flowed. I'm excited to read everything else by the author and will reccomend to others. Available on Kindle Unlimited.

Let me start off by saying that I read this book because someone played around on my Goodreads after leaving it open and being away from the computer. They added any weird smut they could find. I decided to be funny and read/review said smut, because why not?

So this brings me to this book. I found it on kindle unlimited and decided to give it a try. Honestly I did not have high hopes at first. But the smut slut in me wins again and I actually really liked the book!

The book starts out with Lucy, an American college student studying anthropology focusing on myths and legends. One night at the library she finds a book that has a spell that can bring Mary Shelley's monster to life. Here Frank comes into the story and sparks fly between them immediately. They get intimate and its electrifying.

I loved that there was plenty of spice but actual plot as well. I loved this cute spin on Frankenstein.

I bought this book as a "blind-date with a book," and in theory I should have really enjoyed this, but I'm so sorry, this was just not it.

I feel terrible saying that, because I can tell the author tried to make it a coherent and cohesive short-story, but there was no actual plot development. Just smut, and even that was poorly executed. I genuinely don't know how I was supposed to take the presence of electric jizz as something thrilling or even remotely serious. It might have been a fun addition, but the way it was carried out was rather poorly developed.

The story had so much potential, but it completely fell flat due to the lack of character development and rushed pacing. It felt like the author had an interesting concept in mind, and in that regard, it was an easy and interesting read. Nevertheless, I feel like any potential depth was abandoned in favor of surface-level spice. Unfortunately, it just did not work for me.

I really liked how this book took inspiration from a classic horror story to create this short and sweet monster romance book. Lucy is interesting because while I found her a bit annoying, it was perfect for this book. She is ambitious to the point of foolishness, but if she wasn't, she would not have been able to summon Frank back into existence. Her personality also fits well with Frank and drives the story which makes it work. The world building is also pretty neat. I love how creepy but romantic certain scenes are, like nighttime visits to a spooky garden or a creepy old castle. I am interested to see what else the author will write about in this world!.

It was okay

Essentially, it boils down to it was okay for me. Not bad, not great, just kind of meh.

It took a while to get to the spice (1/3 of the book, if I remember correctly) and I feel like the non-monster part of the story was simultaneously over- and underdeveloped. If there had been less going on, it would have fit perfectly into that quick spicy novella box, and if there was a little more detail added, it would have been a well-rounded story.

Despite that critique, it was enjoyable, and the smutty surprise was quite a shock that did help to make it memorable.

Ultimately, if you enjoy on-page monster smut, this is pretty good. Just go in knowing you’ll have to wait for it to get to that point.

A short monster tale about our classic Frankenstein, Frank, Franky Boy…. This novella will leave you hot and bothered with your panties in a twist 😉 decadent writing that immerses you into the picture perfect setting of 1955 England . Mahogany, English ivy, old books… history… “and perhaps a dash of mildew. “ Tabitha’s characters are hilarious and raw. Lucy was a refreshing virgin FMC and Frank…. Well let’s just say he is the thing that goes bump in the night. (Also electric cum. Yep. You read that right.) absolutely loved this monster novella. I hope Tabitha writes more! 👏🏼

I’ll admit, this isn’t my normal read, and also my first monster romance novella, but I honestly enjoyed it. Of course the main point behind this novella is smut, and it definitely doesn’t let you down. There are some very good explicit scenes, that definitely get you feeling some kind of way. For this being my first monster romance, I’m not disappointed. However, I’m not sure if I’ll read more books like this. It was a little weird for me in the beginning. Regardless of it being a little weird, I did enjoy it and Would recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, dirty, monster romance.
