More Than Representation: The Cheat Codes to Own Your Seat at the Table

Rate this book
More Than The Cheat Codes to Own Your Seat at the Table puts Raven Jemison's unique story of struggle and success as a queer, black woman and prominent executive in the male-dominated sports industry into the hands of those who need to hear it.

Through a series of short stories, Raven unveils her personal narrative with graceful resolve, revealing the truth about the obstacles she has encountered on her journey as a business leader – a journey that is still unfolding.

More Than Representation sheds light on what marginalized communities need to know to earn – and keep – a seat at the table. It addresses the complex power structures that exist as barriers to increased minority representation in business and provides tactical advice on how marginalized leaders can leverage their platforms to open doors and create opportunities for those who follow.

I've read my share of leadership books in my HR career but none as real, practical and impactful as Raven's More Than Representation: The Cheat Codes to Your Own Seat at the Table! Raven shares her unique story of starting from 'butts in seat' ticket sales to Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the Milwaukee Bucks. Raven does not hold back and discusses diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, as well as developing your own unique value proposition to set yourself apart. Raven's approach is honest and sincere and fully captures how exhausting the workplace can be for a black, queer woman. Additionally, the book emphasizes the importance of working hard while taking care of oneself and being present for family.

Raven's story gave me hope that there can be success in a workplace by being true to oneself, working with sponsors, mentors and advocates while understanding and effectively navigating the waters of workplace politics.

A must read for those looking to progress and succeed without compromising self and/or integrity.

Thanks for creating such a proficient roadmap to achievement, Raven, for all professionals but most importantly for those that look and love with you,

I don’t usually read business books, but this book read more like a memoir.
A must read for anyone in the sports industry whether you are new to ticket sales or a C-Level exec. I have been in the industry for 15 plus years and took some nuggets that will help grow my career. I enjoyed it!

I've seen Raven in a few webinars and was really excited to see her go to the Milwaukee Bucks (my team!) and even more stoked to see she is now the President of the KC Current. Anyway, all this to say I was keen to read her book. The book is insightful and concise. The best part is that the examples are very relatable or understandable. They're not wild office dramas. She also does a great job getting you into the scene so you can understand the situation, relate, and learn from her experiences. As someone in the sports industry (and doing my 2024 professional goal setting) it was the perfect time to read this book.

A book you don’t want to put down. Excuse me,
this isn't just a book; it's THE cheat code manual for success, and Raven Jemison is the amazing, thoughtful guide we didn't know we needed.
