I could not finish this book. Kirsten decides to not tell the father of her twins that he is a father for 5 years and then she starts demanding him to do something. We cant control people.
This is a Second Chance Romance, and this is the 5th book in the Hope Crossing series. I have not read the other books in this series. I was pulled into the beginning of this book, and I was loving it. Then, the pacing slowed down, and I just got bored. The ending was ok. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
This is a second chance story about a couple who were in love but broke up because Hero did not want kids – at least that is what he tells heroine but in reality he is just afraid of passing on a medical condition so when heroine learns she is pregnant with twins, she doesn’t tell him.
Five years later, heroine returns home and has to tell him he is a Father because the kids look like him and he needed to hear it from her first. Hero is all in and their reunion and becoming a family was sweet.
What I didn’t like is that as with many 2nd chance tropes, years go by with no contact for separations. At least it’s 5 and not 10 or more, but still….
A second chance at love... IF they can get over their fears and trust each other again. They had plans, they were in love and they had found the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. That was until Brady dropped the news to Kirsten that he never wanted kids, and they ended up going their separate ways. What Brady and Kirsten didn't know at that time was that the damage was already done. So when Kristen finds out she's pregnant with Brady twins, she never tells him. And while Brady said he didn't want kids, it wasn't because he didn't like them, it was because he feared he'd pass a medical condition down to them.
Fast forward years later and Kirsten has landed her dream job in Hope Springs. The only hiccup... Brady. She's going to have to tell him about his boys and hope for the best. She has this secret, he has his secret to WHY he didn't want kids. Is there anyway to get beyond their fears and see a future for their boys?!
This was a sweet, sweet story! The chemistry and history between Kirsten and Brady was so obvious. And I loved that they both realized their struggles were based on self reliance and not relying on God. Mindy wrote a wonderful story here! You don't want to miss it!
If you have followed my blog for any length of time, it should be no secret how much I love this author. Mindy Obenhaus writes such beautiful and heart warming stories and HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM did not disappoint.
HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM is the fifth book in the Hope Crossing series. The story takes place in Hope Crossing, Texas and Mindy Obenhaus describes it so beautifully that I am ready to pack my bags and go see it for myself. HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM deals with so many different emotions that one minute I was giggling and the next tearing up. Kirsten is a nurse practitioner and comes to Hope Crossing for her dream job and to find Brady James. Brady and Kirsten dated years ago, but they broke up and soon after, Kirsten discovers she is pregnant. Brady never wanted kids, but not because he didn’t like them, but because of a secret he has been keeping. Well, Kirsten knows she needs to be honest with Brady and tell him about his sons. As soon as he sees them, he will know and she needs to get in front of that.
HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM will surely pull at your heart strings and make it very hard for you to put down. If you are like me, you won’t be able to stop until you know what happens to all of these beautiful people in Hope Crossing. Reading how Brady and Kirsten responded to each other is very funny since both are so stubborn. Is it possible for them to get a second chance at love if they would just stop and listen to the other? I’m not going to tell you, but I will say that you really should read HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM and get to know this lovable small town.
Make yourself a yummy hot drink, get your favorite blanket and get on the couch. HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM is an awesome way to spend the afternoon or evening. Once you start HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM you won’t be able to put it down and will find yourself cheering for Brady and Kirsten as they try to navigate their way through a very different and unique situation. Mindy Obenhaus will pull you in from the very first page and never let you go!

In Hidden Secrets Between Them by Mindy Obenhaus, readers are treated to a deeply moving and emotionally charged story set in the charming town of Hope Crossing, Texas. This latest entry in the Hope Crossing series is a compelling tale of second chances, hidden truths, and the unexpected turns life can take.
When nurse practitioner Kirsten Reynolds moves to Hope Crossing with her adorable twin sons, she’s thrilled about her new role at the health clinic. Yet, she’s also bracing herself for a significant challenge: coming face-to-face with Deputy Brady James, the man who unknowingly fathered her boys. The twist? Brady has no idea he’s a father. As Kirsten and Brady navigate their complicated past and present, the stakes are high, and the path to a future together is fraught with emotional and practical obstacles.
Brady, thrust into the role of a father he never planned for, finds himself grappling with fears and uncertainties about his new responsibilities. His journey from skepticism to acceptance is beautifully portrayed, showcasing his internal struggle as he balances his duties as a deputy, his aspirations for the future, and his emerging role as a father. The story’s exploration of Brady’s transformation and his growing bond with his sons is both heartwarming and inspiring.
Kirsten’s challenges are no less significant. She must reconcile her lingering hurt from Brady’s past departure with the possibility of building a future together. As she and Brady confront their shared history and unspoken fears, their story becomes a powerful testament to forgiveness and redemption.
One of the standout aspects of this novel is the tender portrayal of the relationship between Brady and his sons. The twins, with their innocent charm and boundless energy, are not just adorable but also central to the story’s emotional depth. Their presence forces Brady and Kirsten to confront their past and embrace the possibilities of a future they never imagined.
The faith elements woven into the narrative add a profound layer to the story. As both characters navigate their fears and doubts, their journey is guided by a gentle reminder of faith’s role in healing and hope. This spiritual dimension enriches the story, making it not just a romantic tale but a meaningful exploration of trust and belief.
A particularly striking quote from this book: “God’s word says so. Now the choice is up to you. Are you going to take God at His word and live the life He has planned for you or not?”
Mindy Obenhaus’s storytelling shines with warmth and authenticity. Her characters are relatable and endearing, their struggles genuine, and their triumphs deeply satisfying. The inclusion of a heartfelt epilogue is the cherry on top, offering a glimpse of hope and resolution that will leave readers with a smile.
If you’re a fan of second-chance romances set in small-town settings, Hidden Secrets Between Them is a must-read. It’s a story that combines love, faith, and the joy of unexpected family with a delightful setting and memorable characters. Whether you’re new to the Hope Crossing series or a long-time follower, this book is sure to capture your heart.
I received a digital ARC of Hidden Secrets Between Them via the author and JustRead Publicity Tours LLC. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. My honest and unbiased opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on the story’s content ensuring transparency and reliability.
Hidden Secrets Between Them was a great “secret baby” romance! One of the reasons I liked this so much was because these two main characters actually had real reasons that drove their actions. Of course, communicating with each other is always a good idea, but these two kept things from each other because of fear.
Brady and Kirsten broke up years earlier when Brady refused to ever consider having children. He didn’t share his reason, which was the fear of potentially passing on a horrible genetic condition that ran in his family. Kirsten discovered she was pregnant after the breakup, however, she kept this secret from Brady because he was very adamant about not having kids and she did not want him to choose to come back to her simply because of her pregnancy and then resent her.
One of the things I really liked about this story was that, upon moving to Brady’s hometown, Kirsten met up with him almost immediately and told him the truth about the boys. Of course, this set in motion the entire tale to come of Brady connecting with his sons and reconnecting with Kirsten. The truth of why he didn’t want children comes out and he has a lot of fears to face and decisions to make regarding genetic testing and whether he wants to know if his fate will be like his own mother’s was.
This was a truly beautiful and emotionally stirring novel. Brady and Kirsten actually both really loved each other. Fear is what broke them up and kept them apart and fear could be what keeps them from bonding as a family. I liked the way these two truly cared about each other after all of the years apart and it was sweet to see Brady embrace being a father. Even though this book is part of a series, you can enjoy it as a stand alone novel, as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Oh wow!! Another awesome Hope Crossing story!! I absolutely love this series. Second chances, small town, twins, hope, faith, love, K-9, compassion and falling in love!! Deputy Brady James is surprised when his past love, Kirsten Reynolds shows up at his door. He had no idea that he is the daddy to twin boys. His sons and their mom are living just down the road from him. If Brady can overcome his fears he might just be in God's plans for him to get a forever family. Ms. Obenhaus knows how to keep you entertained and coming back for more wonderful Christian stories!! I couldn't put it down!! A must read!! I was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Opening the pages to start reading the newest Hope Crossing series book, Hidden Secrets Between Them, evokes a feeling of coming home. What a joy it would be to be part of this community where people helping and supporting one another is as natural as breathing. Single mother Kirsten Reynolds just moved to town with her young twin sons. She’s excited to head up the new health clinic. Not as exciting is knowing she will see Sheriff’s Deputy Brady James, the man who walked out on her five years prior. Turns out she has a secret, and so does he. Could it be that though they each made past decisions based on what THEY thought was best, the Lord had a better plan for them all along? Author Mindy Obenhaus’ words had me smiling, giggling, and even crying. It’s a wonderfully emotional story, plus it has my favorite, an epilogue! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
Thank you in advance to the author, Mindy Obenhaus, for providing a complimentary review copy through JustRead Publicity Tours. A positive review was not required nor requested, and all words are my own.
While this is the fifth book in the series, this is my fourth visit to Hope Crossing. I wasn’t able to read book two. It and a few of her backlist titles are on a TBR that’s rivaling the Mariana Trench in depth/height. And, while I recommend people read the previous books in the series, it seems only the first (1st), third (3rd), and fourth (4th) books are connected.
Like she usually does, Obenhaus’ characters become like old friends, even the new ones we meet along the way. Some of the past characters return, while merging new ones:
📺 Gloriana (The Cowgirl’s Redemption – book #1) 📚 Jillian (Her Christmas Healing – book #4) 🐕🦺 Aggie (Jillian’s service dog) 🏫 Alli (Loving the Rancher’s Children – book #3) 🥼 Gabriel 🚓 Brady 🩺 Kirsten 👦🏻👦🏻 Trevor & Scott (Kirsten and Brady’s 4-year-old twins) 👩🏻🦳 Carol (Kirsten’s mom) 👨🏻🦳 Hank (Brady’s dad) 🍪 Kyleigh (Gloriana and Justin’s daughter)
Even though this is a clean read, there are topics that some readers could be sensitive too. In Hidden Secrets Between Them, Obenhaus tackles medical illnesses such as cancer (what Kirsten’s dad died from) and Huntington’s Disease – a progressive generative disease – what Brady’s mom was afflicted with. And; as pointed out; it doesn’t just affect the patient, but their family as well. There is also a slight hostage situation.
Readers met Brady James back in The Cowgirl’s Redemption. And, sadly – I actually forgot who all was in that book 🫣
Then again, it feels like I JUST read the fourth book in this series. That was almost a year ago (November 2023).
Getting back to this one …
Where do I start? I want to say the beginning, but that starts with the cover. This year, Love Inspired (and some of the other Harlequin books) had some MAJOR changes. One being the size – while it is a bit easier to hold (more floppy) – trying to put them in boxes and on the shelf?? Nightmare 🫣
But, another change happened – the cover designs. Back when I was re-introduced to the line, they had different color spines and different “artwork”. Then, they went to one color – light blue façade. The spines have a different tinge of blue, gone is the border. And, on some books – it really looks better. Like this one. I LOVE the contrast of the golden land graduating up to the purplish sky. Then again, I love purple. For some reason, this gives it a Hallmarkesque cover, and definitely highlights the tone of the book.
Unlike some “secret child” romance books, this starts right off with the mom (Kirsten) telling the dad (Brady). Absolute game-changer there. Had me from chapter one. Knowing his medical history, that leaves Brady concerned that he’s sentenced Kirsten and the twins.
Of course, the one person Brady is going to go to – his father, Hank. The man who lost his wife to the disease Brady fears. And, it was that fear that led to Brady parting ways with Kirsten, and his “no kids” rule. His father, Hank, then suggests the genetic test that would put Brady’s fears to ease. Brady is afraid it’d only justify that. Kind of agree there. Women have been going through that testing because of the BCRA gene for breast cancer.
Either way, Brady knows there are going to be changes ahead. The boys deserve a dad, but his closest idea is friends. His father, like most good fathers, tries to talk some sense into him, even accusing Brady of rushing through life. And, after seeing a picture of the boys – he tells him they are a precious gift.
However, once Kirsten learns the truth, she urges him to get the testing. If not for himself, then the boys.
Brady knows he’s being selfish. Like Alzheimer’s and other degenerative diseases, there is no cure. Then again, as a former military member, and a member of the police department – he’d sworn to protect and serve.
That’s another thing on his mind – his campaign for sheriff. Not because his father was once the sheriff, but Brady can’t stand the current guy. There is also the Boot Scoot ‘n Barbecue Bash which Gloriana wants him to work on. Despite her changes, he still can’t get over a betrayal from here when they were in high school. I had to laugh about him stating he didn’t know anything about kids, and she asked him what fun things he would’ve wanted. In truth, that is the best way to do it.
In a chance incident, Brady meets his sons. He then agrees to Kirsten’s dictate – the testing. He also wants a relationship with the boys which leads to a new fear in Kirsten – Brady wanting the boys. However, he then wants Kirsten’s help with the barbecue.
Like he didn’t tell her about the disease he feared, Kirsten too has her own fears – that perhaps he’ll want custody.
But, another fear she is having – them being seen together having a negative impact on Brady’s campaign. Ugh, politics 🤢 Gloriana said it right “there are a lot of people whose greatest joy in life is stirring the pot”. Though, that is true on about anything. Look at most social media posts – no matter what the subject is, even an innocuous one like a cat being playful.
Brady begins to see that his father and Kirsten are right about living life to the fullest – and the place God has for them all – even the good and the bad.
A touching read from the first page to the last with a lot of heart and emotion packed into it. And one, that has a lot of life’s lesson’s woven into the pages.
One such lesson – the part about rushing through life, and how Brady’s mom cherished every moment, reminds me of a saying …
Life isn’t by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away.
It was a favorite of someone I admire; and became my second favorite inspirational phrase. No one knows what the future will be – bad health or catastrophic accidents. And, what happens is not how long we live, but how we live.
Like she has done in the past, Obenhaus had me in tears a few times and then I was laughing. One example of giggling was the result of a dinner Brady planed – lasagna, Cesar salad, and bread are my favs. When Brady said most of it was from frozen, it reminded me of my own “mediocre” cooking skills, and the fact I’d just bought some frozen veggie lasagnas at the store. I was also swooning about Brady’s love of Star Wars. Incidentally, when the first movie came out in 1977, I got to so see it, and we were living in Texas at the time. And, no, it wasn’t my mother’s idea, and definitely not appropriate for a baby. Still, the memory is slightly amusing.
Some of the inanimate connections I had … the urgent care clinic having been transformed from a former gas station and repair garage. My doctor’s current office (my mom’s doctor is there as well) was converted from a Walgreens pharmacy about 8-10 years ago. While some façades can be changed, this is far too obvious. It’s just missing the signage.
Another connection (and “laugh”) I had was Kirsten saying the February weather could be ice or sweltering heat. That brought back a memory of a particular February where I live (Nevada). On February 26th in 1996, Las Vegas had a freak snowstorm. It was one-day, and the accumulation varied throughout the valley (https://lasvegassun.com/news/1996/feb...). Well, it was still considered winter.
But, just 10 days before? I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless shirt 🤣 I know because my mom had just bought a car that day (we didn’t keep it long, but that’s how I knew). The phrase, “don’t like the weather, wait five minutes it’ll change” isn’t just about my home-state of Texas, but Nevada as well. It’s even confused my phone. Many times it would be raining while the phone app says sun, or the other way around 😳 and, I do have pictures. So, I definitely understood what Kirsten meant. Just par for the course for Texas. My mother lived there for a few years before I was born so she knew about the weather. Anyone want to see some heavy snow pics from the late 1970’s?? 🤭
To say I enjoyed this is so inadequate. I enjoyed it, devoured and savored it. I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t put it down. I almost forgot about dinner 🫣 thankfully a stomach rumble reminded me. I literally read it in less than eight (8) hours, and even stopped to help a neighbor assemble something. I was paid in some yummy cheesecake flavored froyo 🍦
While I’ve enjoyed Obenhaus’ books, this was – despite the heavy topic of the degenerative disease – one of my favorites! A gentle request … if y’all (authors) are going to keep writing these books this way, please send a little pocket pack of tissues with the bookmarks 😉🤭
Like usual, this has some moderate tones of faith in it. Though the beautiful story wouldn’t be the same without them.
Since there is a final book coming in the series, I can’t wait to return, though I’m sad to leave. Reading books in Texas – even fictional cities and towns – is always like a homecoming for me. Until that book comes out, like Kirsten was in preparing her clinic, I’ll keep “busier than a squirrel in a nut factory” 🐿️🌰🤭
This is a story of second chances, hope, and love. You will enjoy following Brady and Kirsten’s story.
Brady is a sheriff's deputy who has a busy life with a lot on his plate. He is settled and comfortable, thinking he has figured out his life. But 5 years after their relationship ended, Kirsten shows up in town to run the clinic… with a little surprise of her own. Brady learns he is the father of her 4 year old twin boys.
You will instantly connect to the characters, cheering them on as they navigate this new-to-them reality.
It was fun to return to the small town of Hope Crossing and revisit some of the previous characters from past books, seeing where their lives have taken them. You can read this as a stand alone novel, but I also highly recommend the previous books in the Hope Crossing series.
Mindy Obenhaus' Hidden Secrets Between Them is a cute story about learning trust and responsibility.
I enjoyed how the book discussed the importance of fatherhood. It was interesting seeing Kirsten realize how much her boys were benefitting from having a father figure in their lives. It was sweet watching Brady grow into his role as a father and learning to love his sons.
I also loved watching Kirsten learn to trust other people and that she doesn't need to be in control of everything. At the beginning of the book, she is determined to take care of her sons, her clinic, her house, and everything else by herself. Throughout the book, she learns that she can - and needs to - rely on other people.
While I definitely enjoyed the book, I wish it had a better discussion on why premarital s*x is harmful. The main characters had children out of wedlock four years prior, which causes the main tension in the book, which I knew before I began reading the book (it's mentioned in the blurb), but I would've expected the characters to struggle with that a bit more.
Overall, Hidden Secrets Between Them was a sweet, quick read with several sweet moments that will make you smile!
I received an advance copy of this book. My opinions are my own. A Positive review was not required.
Second chance at love…check. Secret baby…check. A completely captivating story…check!!! I adored Hidden Secrets Between Them by Mindy Obenhaus and found it impossible to put down! This Love Inspired romance is the 5th book in the Hope’s Crossing series, but it can be read as a standalone. I’ve read one other Hope’s Crossing book and loved it too. The small town vibe always gives me a cozy feeling!
I thought that the characters’ personalities made them seem like real people. And when you feel like you’re reading about real people, you become that much more emotionally invested in their lives. Though I’m not sure I could have kept a secret baby (x2) a secret for 5 years, I understood why Kirsten didn’t tell Brady about the twins. She had a support system in her mom, and she also didn’t want Brady to feel like he had to support her. Kirsten’s independence, though admirable, kept her from fully relying on God. She may have thought didn’t want to rely on Brady, what she was really saying is that she didn’t trust that maybe God had a better plan for her and the twins.
Brady’s actions 5 years ago is what made Kirsten think that she could keep the twins from ever knowing their dad. Brady basically dumped her because he never wanted to have kids. However, he never told Kirsten why, and his reasoning was completely understandable. (I won’t tell you what it was. That would be a spoiler!) Again, this was a matter of not trusting God with the future. God knows everything that’s going to happen from eternity to eternity, so we need to learn to lean on him. God knew that Brady would have these twins in spite of what Brady thought.
This story really touched my heart, and I had tears in my eyes many times. I’ve tried so many times to try and control my future. And if things didn’t go my way, I’d be really disappointed. I think we could all use a reminder that God works all things for the good of those who love him. Even the bad things. Since sin is in the world, bad things are going to happen. Unexpected things happen. But like Kirsten and Brady learn, God’s got the absolute best plan for them.
Needless to say, I highly recommend Hidden Secrets Between Them and give it five stars!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

(i received a complimentary copy from the publisher. i was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions i have expressed are my own.)
considerations: —language: none —spice: kisses only, no physical details of past relationship —faith: strong themes with mentions of God, church, and prayer —content: loss of family member, mentions of cancer and military death, huntington's disease, children born out of wedlock
Mindy Obenhaus delights readers with this secret twins reunion second chance romance.
From the opening lines, the author had me hooked. Kirsten’s plight resonated with me and drew me deeper into the story. I love the realistic portrayal of her doubt about a decision made years ago.
Brady displays similar doubt about putting his life on hold out of fear and pushing away those he loved most. Oh, reader, you’re gonna love the twists and turns in this sweet, inspirational romance. Brady’s character is all protector, even if some of his decisions were misguided.
In the end, the author delivers a satisfying HEA. I stayed up way too late reading this page-turner.
I highly recommend to fans of inspirational romance and clean, sweet romance. You won’t want to miss this one.
Romance: Very clean. Cleanly described attraction and light mention of kissing. Faith: Both characters tried to lean on God instead of themselves.

In the tiny town of Hope Crossing, Texas nurse practitioner Kristen Reynolds has found the job of her dreams. The only problem is Deputy Brady James a former love interest lives there. He has his secrets and fears, and Kristen has hers. Can they face the unknown and have a future together? Author Mindy Obenhaus has authored a captivating story filled with hope. You will not want to miss it! I received a complimentary copy from the author. The opinions are my own.
Hidden Secrets Between Them by Mindy Obenhaus! This is another great book in set in Hope Crossing Texas, where Kirsten Reynold's has found her dream job being a nurse practitioner is the town big enough for her and her ex-boyfriend Deputy Brady James! She can't hide her secret for long about her twin son's and who the father is! Can she get past her hurt and let Brady be a part of her and their son's life that he didn't know about! This is such an amazing book one that when you pick it up you don't want to put it down, I highly recommend this book! I was given a compilatory copy and this is my own honest opinion!
HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM by Mindy Obenhaus is the fabulous story of Kirsten Reynolds, nurse practitioner, and Deputy Brady James as they come to terms with their past, manage their lives in the present and maybe even dream about a future if they can get around the scary unknown.
Kirsten had moved away from Hope Crossing after the unexpected breakup with the man she thought held her future – Brady. Not finding out about her pregnancy until after their breakup and after Brady telling to her in no uncertain terms that he never wanted children or to be a father, she had never told Brady he fathered her sons. She fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse-practitioner while being a single mom to the now 4-year-old twins, Jeremy and Trevor. While she was thrilled at the prospect of be promoted and heading up a new urgent care center, what she hadn’t expected was finding out it was in her hometown. A dream come true and a nightmare knowing she would have to face Brady at the same time.
Brady’s best friend had been Scott Reynolds, Kirsten’s brother. They had even soldier together. Brady came home and Brady didn’t after a training exercise gone wrong. He’s always promised Scott that he’s take care of his little sister. Little did he know that he would fall head over heads in love with her. The feeling was mutual and for a while Brady forgot about the skeleton in the closet. That is until they started talking about marriage and she mentioned wanting to having children. Having children is something he swore he’d never do. He’d never want a child to suffer through watching a parent deteriorate like he did from a horrid disease. And he wouldn’t take the chance of passing it on to an innocent child. That’s when he knew he had to completely break up with the woman he knew he’d never stop loving.
Moving back to Hope Crossing meant she was going to have to finally do what her mother’s been asking her to do since finding out she was pregnant – tell Brady about his sons. With them looking just like him and with similar mannerisms, it won’t be long before others figured it out. He had to be the first to know. When she called him to see if she could talk to him, she found out his place abutted the back of the property she was renting. She decided telling him was like pulling a bandage off – do it quickly. To say he was shocked was an understatement, but to her shock he wanted to meet them and be around them immediately. As his love for his sons grew, he knew he wanted to be more than a family friend. He wanted the right to call them son. He also knew he had to prove to Kirsten that he was in for the long haul. That he wouldn’t cut and run like he did before. No way would he break these mini me’s hearts or their momma’s either!
Will relinquishing some control and seeing Brady with his sons give her heart hope that they could have a second chance? Dare she offer her heart up again to the man that stomped it so completely before? Can Brady prove to her that he’s a different man now? Will trying to do it all – job as a deputy, being on the Hope Crossing Fair and Rodeo board and helping with the Boot Scoot’n Barbeque Bash children’s area, running for sheriff, tending a ranch and trying to be a father to his sons have Brady succeeding or quickly burning that proverbial candle at both ends. Can seeing how much Brady loves and tenderly takes care of the twins so freely have her heart melting along with her resolve to raise them on her own? Can she put the past behind her in order to give her son’s the best possible life and a roll model worthy of being called Dad? As told in the story - Kids may not have been part of his plan, but they were part of God’s. Is it also part of God’s plan for the four of them to be a family as well?
HIDDEN SECRETS BETWEEN THEM is a story of love, forgiveness, acceptance, redemption, trust and second chances all expertly woven in a wonderful thread of faith. Mindy Obenhaus’s story weaving abilities will pull on all your emotions in this heart-tugging story from beginning to end making it nearly impossible to put it down once you start reading it. By seeing both sides of the story and seeing the love Kirsten and Brady have for each other, you can’t help but dream for a happily ever after ending. FIVE STAR reading that I highly recommend to anyone and everyone that loves a great inspirational romance!
I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #HiddenSecretsBetweenThem #MindyObenhaus #LoveInspired #InspirationalRomance

This is Brady James, Kirsten Reynolds and four-year-old sons Jeremy and Trevor's story. “You have to tell him.” Standing in the kitchen of the house she’d just signed a six-month lease on, Kirsten Reynolds sighed. “I know, Mom.” It was all she’d thought about since Dr. Olson gave her the good news that, despite their concerns of her being a single mother, she’d convinced them she was the right person to run the urgent care center that would soon open in Hope Crossing, Texas. As a nurse practitioner, the move was a dream come true. Now she had six months to prove herself worthy. Something that, under normal circumstances, wouldn’t be a problem. But aside from being a single mom who now lived an hour away from her only support system, there was one more issue standing in the way of her success. “Hello? Kirsten?” His voice, her name on his lips, was as inviting as a cozy cabin with a roaring fire on a cold winter’s night. She sucked in a breath. “Hello, Brady.” “Wow. It’s been a while. How are you?” “I’m good. Actually, I’m in Hope Crossing. I was hoping we could talk. In person.” His lengthy pause had her pulse quickening. “Um, sure. Though, in case you haven’t noticed, there’s really no place to meet in town. No coffee shops or burger joints around here.” Eyeing a large, barren crepe myrtle with peeling bark outside the window, she said, “I can come to you, if you’d like?” “Okay. Sure. I just got home from work.” “Yeah—are you okay, Kirsten?” I recommend this book. Hidden Secrets Between Them by Mindy Obenhaus is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Mindy Obenhaus. I received a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts are my own. From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope. Hope Crossing Book 1: The Cowgirl's Redemption Book 2: A Christmas Bargain Book 3: Loving the Rancher's Children Book 4: Hidden Secrets Between Them
What a lovely book Mindy Obenhaus has written in Hidden Secrets Between Them. And what a whopping set of secrets it is!
Kirsten is a single mom of two precocious, precious twin boys, Trevor and Jeremy. She's a nurse practitioner who's taken the job of running the new urgent care center in Hope Crossing, where medical care has been scarce. She's thrilled to be back in this sweet Texas town. In fact, there's only one big obstacle in her way. And it's the one she's been hiding from for four years. Since the boys were born.
Their father lives in Hope Crossing. And he has no idea he's a dad.
Kirsten had all the reasons that kept her from letting Brady know that he was a father. He'd made it clear that he didn't want to have children. And she didn't want him to feel trapped. And so on...
Yet here she is, on his porch, about to upend his life by sharing her news. What Kirsten doesn't know is that Brady James has a secret or two of his own--that he didn't want her to feel trapped by.
Hidden Secrets Between Them tells a most wonderful tale of Kirsten's and Brady's lost love, secrets, and attempts to learn to live in the present, rather than in the past...holding on to God's hands as they tentatively reach for each other's. Just an enjoyable, truthful, beautiful story of life and love in small-town Texas. Loved it!
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.
Hidden Secrets Between Them is a Love Inspire novel that is so sweet, full of hope and second chances. I read this in one sitting and loved every moment. The novel I had read before this one was very emotionally heavy and I was needed something lighter. This hit all the notes I was craving perfectly. There are still situations that occur, but it’s got a much lighter feel, with the whisper of hope wafting throughout.
Though this premise is nothing new there is still a freshness and sweetness told through the imagination of Mindy Obenhaus. She has such an incredible talent for bringing out something special in the simple, with her characters well-developed, and the storyline gently flowing across the rolling Texas prairie.
The twins reminded me of my own boys at that age, which are memories I am happy to return to, and Kirsten possess a strength that is admirable as well. Brody is a wonderful man who clearly wants to do right by others, which is a wonderful trait to see, and seeing them all together, especially at one of the big town events, was so great to read and gave me a cute idea for my next party!
Letting fear direct your actions and decisions is a theme throughout this novel, which had me also pondering how I have let fear dictate in my own life. Gotta love when a light read still has you self-reflecting. I truly fell in love with these characters and this world, and I can’t believe there’s only one more novel in this series!

Kirsten Reynolds is a nurse practitioner at the health clinic in Hope Crossing, Texas with her twin sons. Deputy Brady James, the man she once loved, also lives there. Brady has no idea that Kirsten’s four-year-old twin sons are his. Kirsten spent years raising the boys on her own, and she’s very protective of their well-being. While she hopes Brady will embrace his role, she also sets clear boundaries. Brady must earn their trust, not just show up because of he is their father. As Brady begins to bond with the boys, he’s faced with a life he never imagined: one filled with bedtime stories, scraped knees, and the possibility of love rekindled. But secrets don’t stay buried forever, and both Kirsten and Brady must confront the past if they want to build a future together. When he discovers that Kirsten’s twin boys are his, it’s a life-altering moment. He never imagined himself as a father to two energetic four-year-olds he never knew existed. At first, he’s understandably shaken. The revelation forces him to confront not only the lost years but also his own fears about fatherhood and commitment. As Brady spends more time with the boys, he sees glimpses of a life he never thought he wanted. Rather than running from the truth, he leans into it. His journey becomes one of embracing the unexpected, learning to forgive, and opening his heart to the family he didn’t know he needed. This story of forgiveness, faith, and family, perfect for readers who love emotional depth with a wholesome, uplifting tone. I really enjoyed this wonderfully inspirational contemporary romance novel. I received this free book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
The book is aptly named, because they had some serious secrets between them. Brady and Kirsten were happily in love once upon a time, till Brady told Kirsten no children. Unfortunately, for Brady, Kirsten was already pregnant. Though she keeps this news to herself. Fast forward to four years later, Kirsten moves back with the twins due to a new job opportunity. However, she needs to let Brady, who is running for sheriff, know about his sons as they look just like him.
I have to say that Brady's reaction was done well. He was not hotheaded nor really even angry, just shocked. Those are probably good attributes to have for sheriff. Controlled. He is also keeping some secrets from Kirsten as well. Maybe not as big as the twins, but possibly earth shattering too. It was the whole reason he let her go in the first place.
This is probably my second favorite trope, unknown children, and I felt the author showed the revelation and their growing relationship in a realistic manner. These two showed maturity, growth, and forgiveness in all the surprises. They also put their kids first, which would lead them to hopefully figure out what their kids needed most was their mom and dad together. I enjoyed this second chance love story.

I really enjoy Christian Romance books and I also enjoy the Love Inspired Books. Hidden Secrets Between Them by Mindy Obenhaus is Book 5 in the Hope Crossing Series. I have been enjoying this series since Book 1!
WOW, this storyline had me from the very first pages. Kristin Reynolds and Brady James are the main characters in this book. They were in a relationship in the past, but broke it off because Brady didn't want children. Kristin discovers she is pregnant with twin boys, but never tells Brady. She moves back to Hope Springs when the boys are 4 years old. She knows she will need to tell Brady about the boys as he is the Deputy of Hope Springs and she realizes the boys look like him. He also has a secret that he has been keeping from her as to why he didn't want children. I really LOVE the communication between the 2 and how they rekindle their relationship once secrets are revealed. I also LOVE the strong Christian message in this story, especially how they both realize they weren't trusting God but leaning on their own understanding. They had look deep into their own secrets and lives to be able to be parents together. The romance and care for one another is Soo sweet! The book is one of Faith, LOVE, and Second Chances! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance. AWESOME BOOK!
Kirsten is a nurse practitioner back in town with her two boys. While there she also got the break the news to Deputy Brady that he has a pair of twin boys. His family has a genetic disorder that he refuses to pass on and refuses to find out whether or not he has the gene. He's currently running for office and not only does he have to learn to be a father but also has to find out his diagnosis for the sake of the boys.
This was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it. Brady washed his mother fade away from a genetic disorder that he could possibly have. Instead of trying to make every moment count and living life too the fullest like his mother he's ignoring what could possibly be his future. Now Kirsten has two twin boys who might get impacted by this disorder but she's unaware and he has to face the music and try to get tested and it was interesting seeing how everything played out and how this disorder weighed heavily on this family. There was also a second chance at becoming happy and having a little family and it was a heartwarming seeing that bit of them with their little family moments. Then there's the whole stress of him running for office there is so much going on in this book which made this a pretty good read since there was plenty going on to see.
This was a clean Christian romance about two individuals that by keeping secrets between them, broke up five years ago and went their separate ways. When Kristen Reynolds, a nurse practitioner, gets the opportunity to open a clinic in Hope Crossing, she’s excited but also hesitant. The father of her twin boys’ lives there and is unaware of the boys existence. Brady James is a deputy in town and the one that left Kristen many years ago. Not because he didn’t love her, but because he feared he carried the same gene that ended his mother’s life. Imagine his shock when he opens his door to Kristen, and finding out that she kept the boys from him. As they navigate a fragile relationship, and the boys and Kristen feel like a true family, Brady has to decide what he wants to do with his future. Will he take a chance realizing that it’s worth the risk to live and love, or will the fear keep him away? This is a story about faith in God and oneself. It’s also a story about forgiveness and family. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Due to the possibility of passing on a genetically-transmitted disease, Brady broke up with Kirsten as he does not want kids. Five years after the breakup, Kirsten has moved back to his hometown of Hope Crossing to work at the new urgent care center.
She is carrying a huge secret: the identity of her four-year-old twin sons. To ensure a smooth transition for them in this town, she is forced to confess the truth to their father, Brady.
To his surprise, he is suddenly thrown into fatherhood. However, he embraces it considerably well. I liked that he was not outright perfect and we readers see him making mistakes, which we can also learn from. As Brady learns to be a father, Kirsten herself learns to relinquish control and to trust in others to help care for her boys.
Ultimately this is a book about conquering our fears – not allowing our fears to stop us from living our life to the fullest – and to learn how to truly appreciate our loved ones. In this, the book has succeeded!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Kirsten and Brady both have huge fears holding them back, but they are still in love with each other. It's just been about 5 years since they have seen each other. The problem? They have 4-year-old twins together and Brady doesn't know about them! They broke up before Kirsten knew she was pregnant and then she didn't tell him because Brady had abruptly broken up with her with no explanation and she was hurting. When Kirsten moves to Hope Crossing for a job, which is where Brady lives, she feels it's time to come clean with Brady. Brady is shocked to learn he's a father, as most men would be! I enjoyed the way Brady took to being a father. He wasn't embarrassed or nervous, just excited and thrilled! Kirsten was fearful that he would walk out of their lives at some point but that's understandable. Brady has issues that explain why he broke up with her in the first place and they continue to plague him in the present. One of my favorite characters was Brady's father. He was such a sweet man! A wonderful second chance romance!
A heartwarming second chance romance, filled with faith, forgiveness, and family.
An engaging read, with likable characters, adorable children, and strong themes of trusting God with the future. Kirsten is an amazing mother, and she handles the whole situation very thoughtfully. I liked how she was up front with Brad, and tried her best to make it work out for her boys. Brady is a hardworking man, and very involved in Hope's Crossing. I loved how he takes time to get to know the boys, showing them his life, and trying to make up for lost time.
I liked how both Kirsten and Brady are strong Christians, but still learn to trust God as they are confronted with their past. A well-balanced read, full of faith, humor, cuteness, emotional depth, and growth. A highly enjoyable read, with great characters, that I didn't want to put down!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
"Kirsten, you might have more parenting experience than I do, but it's not like I lack common sense."
I struggled with rating this book. Initially I thought it would be a solid 4 star, but as I had some difficulty with finishing the book, I had to drop it down a half star. (Maybe 3.75 would be a better description?). I have no idea why I had these difficulties. I have read and liked this author before and I enjoyed these characters.
We have a cowboy running for sheriff (currently deputy sheriff) and a single mom of four year old twins. It just wasn’t a book that had me running back to it to finish it and see how it progresses. It does deal with a secret baby trope which is one of my least favorites. There was a small town, faith, family, a ranch, horses, twin boys, and so much more. It is a sweet Christian contemporary romance with medical aspects and a few secrets.
I received an ARC of this book via Just Read Tours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
