He’s a ruthless alien invader. She’s a loyal aide to the woman whose husband he overthrew. They're not supposed to be doing this.
When Alina Argoud finds the brutal alien commander who seized control of her ship bleeding out on her cabinstep, her first instinct is to let him die. After all, Threxin is responsible for nearly ejecting her entire crew into the void. He should be her worst enemy.
And yet she tends to his wounds in the secrecy of her cabin. She presses her hands to his heated skin, feeling the pulse of life—of danger—underneath, knowing full well that when he wakes, he might thank her or he might kill her.
Or, worst of all... he might claim her.
Command: Secret Alien Romance is a steamy journey into the heart of forbidden love where loyalty is shattered and primal hunger blurs the lines between ally and enemy. A steamy sequel to Colossal: Dark Romance in Deep Space, this book will leave the reader breathless for more.
*through foghorn*: MORE PEOPLE NEED TO BE READING THIS SERIES.
I went into this with trepidation, because even though I enjoyed Norton's previous installment - a dark, twisty, shockingly visceral space romance with morally ambiguous protagonists and a jaw-dropping ending - I have huge experience of authors who put out well-written books only to fall flat in the sequel.
I'm so glad this wasn't the case here. Book 2 is even more sophisticated than the first and goes to some FASCINATING places.
Alina is kind of a nonentity on board the spaceship Colossal; she's the personal servant to Kaia, heroine of the first book and the spaceship commander's wife, but all her friendly overtures have been rebuffed and she's essentially an aimless worker drone. Then comes the invasion. The spaceship is taken over by uhyre, massive aliens who are the reason Old Earth was abandoned, and suddenly the life of every human on board is hanging by a thread.
The uhyre commander is Threxin, a painfully cold, painfully logical being with no room for emotion. Literally, because his internal 'limiter' stops him from feeling strong negative emotions. Then, when Alina saves his life, it slowly dawns on him that there may be more to humans than just pests he needs to void into space. At least, to one human in particular.
The closest comparison to this book I can think of, in all honesty, is R Lee Smith. Smith also isn't afraid to write overtly alien heroes, in terms that genuinely don't always sound appealing (the aliens here have massive gashes all over their body that bleed light), but they succeed in writing an interspecies romance that doesn't come across as purely fetishistic but seems as though the author genuinely wanted to explore some of the nuances of interspecies relationships. The aliens in this book feel like REAL aliens, from their speech patterns to their modes of thought, in ways that go beyond just physical appearance. Lee's books are obviously much longer and more complex, but I genuinely think Norton could get there one day.
The romance was done well - appropriately slow-burn and tracing the evolution from 'this creature wants to kill my kind/this creature is so useless' to something more. Alina's internal struggle between feeling like a traitor and wanting Threxin was persuasive enough that she didn't feel overly like a pushover in either direction.
Also, Threxin is one of the best kinds of dark hero: totally indifferent to hurting or killing anyone EXCEPT Alina. This is shown in explicit detail numerous times throughout the book. Other thing I liked: that Kaia wasn't inorganically softened or turned into Alina's best friend. She stays the unpleasant person she was in book 1, and so does Orion... to everyone except each other.
My main complaint with this series is that although the endings are certainly eyebrow-raising, they often leave the characters in very strange places and a lot more depth could have been wrung from the book if they had been left in a more stable place, with details of the planetary exploration etc. Very keen however to see where Norton goes next.
A fabulous enemies to lovers novel! Very well done. Just prior to reading this book I DNF’d two books who fell into the trap of “oh no, I’m kidnapped by the enemy but he’s gorgeous and so I fall into bed with him the first chance I get.” Oh please! Command is a true enemies to lovers with a villainous commander of a hostile alien race who took over their ship. It’s slow burn and realistic. I pretty much loved everything about this book. No spoilers but I do wish the ending scene was a bit longer. I have some unanswered questions. I truly hope there will be another book in the series!
Not the worst? I really wanted a shut-your-brain-off book, but I struggle with most KU romances. I did buy this one (technically, credits made it free), and I think that made a difference. There's a plot. There's character development. Is it amazing? Nah. But it's still a far cry from the limp cavatappi I've waded through in the past.
There's some unique stuff I haven't read in sci-fi romance before, and I felt like the author spent more than two minutes googling how ships work. I liked that the MMC sort of stayed an asshole? Like, yes, he softened toward the FMC, but he didn't prance around smiling and loudly atoning for all his mean-guy sins. The FMC was fine if you could overlook the mental gymnastics she had to land to justify being with an arrogant, terrifying, murderous alien. I'll also say that the couple from the first book shows up a lot, and I'm happy I skipped straight to book two; being with that sassy fire-headed smartass for a whole novel would make me riot. SO annoying.
The first 75% of this really held my attention. The last 25% had too many sex scenes and lost the charmingly slower, realistic pace of the beginning. I got bored.
OMG this book was so worth the wait. I was super impressed with Colossal, the first in the Hearts with Teeth universe, but I could not put this one down. I was captured, totally enraptured by the story unfolding. This author is so good, her world building, the characters, everything works. There is blood, the uhyre are a violent species, but it is revealed they can also be reasoned with. They have found their new earth, but the cost was high. Now the story continues I hope, as the ending leaves hints of more to come. I received an ARC from the author and I’m leaving this review voluntarily
This is the second in a series, picking up right after the cliffhanger at the first book ended with. The Uhyre, a violence, alien species, have just commandeered the Colossal, a ship built to run under the command of a part Uhyre part human commander, because the Uhyre commander Threxin carries the same Uhyre DNA as the current commander, Orion Halen. Alina, assistant to Orion’s wife Kaia, is drawn into the power struggle due to her position, although she is generally considered an unimportant nobody. Parole becomes increasingly important when Threxin suffers an attempt on his life, and Alina finds herself nursing him back to health, because even though he’s the enemy, she cannot bring herself to let him die.
Threxin is both physically and emotionally satisfyingly alien, morally gray, and very sexy, and Alina, in spite of her insecurities, has both inner strength and inner goodness. Their relationship is a slow burn, enemies to lovers - my favorite kind to read about.
I enjoyed this book rather more than the first book of the series. That one was good science fiction, with an interesting plot, but I didn’t like either of the two main characters and I didn’t find the romance romantic, or the sex, sexy. This one hit all the marks for me. I found the main characters interesting, and likable, even though the MMC was much more inhuman than the MMC of book one. Their romance was romantic, and their sex scenes were hot. Unlike the first volume, this one doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, although it does still leave enough questions open that I’m hoping for a third in the series

4.25 stars. Alina, the female human lead, has been assigned as the assistant to the commander’s wife but the commander’s wife never seems interested in Alina’s assistance so she’s been doing other work on the colony ship. But when the uhyre board and conquer the ship, she finds herself in close proximity to command simply by virtue of her title and theoretical responsibilities.
Threxin, the male uhyre (alien) lead, intended to conquer the ship and kill all the humans to make way for his people. When he’s forced to negotiate by the previous ship’s commander, he’s furious and frustrated but unwillingly makes a deal.
Whilst Alina catches his attention for her constant attempts to mediate the human living conditions, he’s mostly willing to ignore her until he’s attacked in an assassination attempt and she’s the only one close enough to render assistance. Begrudgingly, Threxin finds himself caring about Alina and the things she care about and wants, especially after the human mental communication device is modified and implanted, replacing his faulty emotional control inhibitor. Alina, too, finds herself caring for Threxin and wanting a beneficial solution for all. Does such a solution exist? Can Threxin find a way to satisfy all parties? And can the human rebellion be controlled without causing undue harm?
This long story is dual POV, well written, and a darker, sci fi, alien/human romance. I enjoyed Alina’s gentleness and her empathy for all around her. I enjoyed the way this “weakness” from others’ perspectives ended up being her great strength, allowing her advocate for better outcomes. I enjoyed the distinctness of Threxin’s foreign nature, perceived as monstrous by humans, on meeting. I enjoyed the way that this was tempered by his interactions. I enjoyed the non-romance plot and the suspenseful way Alina and Threxin negotiated their circumstances. I enjoyed the slow-building intimacy, contrasted with the roughness of that intimacy based on alien custom. I enjoyed that Alina learned to advocate for herself and her preferences, overcoming fear based on her understanding of Threxin’s care for her. I enjoyed the integrated secondary characters and the background view of the characters from the first story in the series - the romance in this story stands alone but the non-romance plot is best understood in order. I enjoyed the ending of the story and the happiness of the characters in a challenging situation.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I am thrilled to finally get my hands on Alexandra Norton's newest book, Command: Secret Alien Romance, which is the sequel to Colossal: Dark Romance in Deep Space. I love this entire series, all part of the author's Hearts With Teeth series, and I have waited impatiently for this one. I was so excited to find it was even better than the previous books.
This story starts as the space colony ship, the Colossal, is captured and invaded by the Uhyre, a lethal, brutal alien race; a race who once invaded earth, nearly destroying it, with their poisonous, addicting exorin compromising the human race.
Threxin, the morally gray alien commander, is determined to take control of the ship to save his people from their desolate, dying planet. His logic leads him to care nothing for the humans, a lesser race, who are led by Orion, their commander, a mixed breed of human and Uhyre, and he would be happy to kill them all by venting them into space. He needs the former commander, however, in order to obtain the coordinates to the new planet, one prophesied by the Uhyre leaders. Orion will only cooperate with the aliens if they agree to spare the humans aboard the ship.
Alina is the assistant to Kaia, Orion's human wife. She is initially terrified of the hulking Uhyre commander, but when an assignation attempt leaves Threxin severely wounded, she is forced to care for him. This is their dark romantic story, filled with brutality, deadly poison, betrayals, a forbidden, secret love, and hot, steamy romance.
The author has filled this book with wonderful plots and subplots to keep the reader entertained by her addictive writing style! I loved the way she grabbed me from the very beginning and wouldn't let go! The characters are well written, drawing the reader into their lives, so you really know and understand them. The world building, centered on the space colony ship, Colossal, is just incredible. I so hope there will be another book to this series, as there is one more Uhyre I hope will have his own story.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and I am happy to give my honest review of the book. There are TWs that readers should consider before purchasing the book. For those who have no triggers, by all means, enjoy! It's fantastic!
4.5 Stars I highly recommend reading the first book for clarity, and then reading this one for enjoyment. I loved Threxin and watching in the change in him. He started out so cold and calculating, dismissing humans as "pests". He begins to sees something in Alina and she shows that she is more than he thought of humans and what she appears to be. Alina is a subservient woman. She is always eager to please others and put their needs first. She is the assistant to the cold Kaia. (Kaia is still just as unlikable as she was in the previous book.) Alina also suffers from anxiety. What we discover is that she has strong cognitive abilities and is soon learning Threxin's language. As the interaction between the two grow, it transforms from enemies to care giver, to an understanding and then love. But along with these changes comes the frustrating on not being able to physically demonstrate these feelings for fear of poisoning or addicting Alina to Threxin. There is angst, subterfuge, and lots of heat. The one thing missing is the full background on Alina. We know Threxin's background and all he had suffered. Why does Alina suffer from anxiety? Why does she cower to others? I am glad she grows stronger as a person by the end. I am wondering if there will be another book. There is someone missing and I want to know what happens to them.
I received a free copy of this book and I am providing my honest review.
As the assistant to the commander's wife, Alina is just barely considered essential personnel when the colony ship Colossal is violently commandeered by alien forces. Threxin is a ruthless leader, willing to kill all the humans to get his forces to a new Earth-like planet whatever the cost. An assassination attempt wounds Threxin critically, and Alina discovers him bleeding out within her cabin. Finding herself unwilling to kill him, she nurses him back to health while developing an inexplicable attraction to him. As the two grow closer, Alina is torn between her growing feelings for Threxin and the needs of her people.
I was looking forward to this book ever since I finished Colossal and it not only lived up to my expectations, but it exceeded them! It is an amazing story of a forbidden romance with high stakes and realistic characters. Alina is extremely likable with her desire to be helpful and her anxiety. Her struggles with her own personal code of ethics and the needs of the other humans on the ship are extremely compelling and make for a read you can't possibly put down. I can't recommend this book enough.

Alina’s (h) life aboard the colony ship Colossal takes a violent turn when the alien uhyre, led by the calculating Threxin, seize control of the vessel. Trapped between the humans fighting for survival and the uhyre enforcing harsh dominance, Alina’s life becomes one of fear, strategy, and unexpected connections. As she grows closer to Threxin, their relationship blurs the lines between captor and ally, forcing Alina to navigate a complicated dynamic of fear, power, and intimacy. Threxin struggles with his emotional limits, controlled by an implant designed to suppress emotions, but as he and Alina grow closer, he makes a dangerous choice that allows him to deepen his bond with Alina. As the ship travels toward a new planet, Kann-01, Alina has to decide where her true loyalties lie in the human-uhyre struggle: with her people, who are increasingly at odds with the alien invaders, or with Threxin, who may hold the key to humanity's future, or its destruction. Hot and steamy alien-human romance, exploring love, survival, power, loyalty, conflict, cooperation, shifting alliances, enemies turned reluctant allies, and commitment.
Command is the second book in the Hearts with Teeth series. It is a dark sci-fi alien romance. Threxin, the protagonist is a morally grey character. He and his alien species take over human inhabited spaceship Colossal on its journey to find a new planet for humanity. He claims the ship as his own intending to dispose of the humans. Alina is the assistant of the ship's former commander's wife, and she tries to make things work for both species to live side by side peacefully on Colossal. Alina and Threxin's encounters bring them closer together. Alina and Threxin are great characters. Alina is sweet and strong, she stands for herself and does not give up. Threxin is cruel and spiky on the outside, but as he gets to know Alina and the humans, he softens toward them. The story is suspenseful, gripping and very impressive. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, hopefully it will be about Renza!
I would have to say, I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first book. "Colossal" is a good book but this one is even better.
The uhyre have taken over the ship, what will happen next?
Alina will steal your heart. She has such compassion for others and wants to be useful. Alexandra did an excellent job of making Alina come alive on the pages. Threxin is one of those villains you hate to love but can't help yourself. The dynamic between these two will have you eager for more and keep you hooked from the start. You get to experience how two very different cultures can come to understand and even love each other.
Looking forward to more from this author and hopefully a story for another uhyre is in the future.

I enjoyed the 1st book, Colossal but Comand rised above my expectations, absolutely addictive read!
Alina is the assistant to Kaia, Orion's human wife. As they met she's scared of the hulking Uhyre commander, but when Threxin is severely wounded, she is forced to care for him and feelings happen… This is their dark romantic story, raw, violent ,brutal, deadly poison, betrayals, a forbidden secret love, and sizzling romance.
A detailed and complex plot to keep the reader addicted!
The characters are well developed and captivating.
A good world building, centers on the space colony ship, Colossal and characters and their interactions.
For those that wished Colossal had a bit more, you have it in Comand.
Command is a fantastic book two in the author’s Hearts with Teeth series and takes readers on a dynamic journey of forbidden alien/human love aboard the colony ship Colossal now overtaken by hostile Uhyre.
Filled with excellent writing, imaginative world building, exceptional twists, slow-burn romance, intrigue, and suspense the story heats up further when MFC Alina Asgoud finds MMC Uhyre Commander Threxin mortally wounded outside her cabin door.
What should she do?
Alina’s decision will lead her and Threxin on a path that will change the course of both their lives in an intense Sci-Fi romance that was a mesmeric read.

Captivating and thrilling story! 🔸️Brutal and ruthless logic of Threxin is scary and frightening to the core. He is efficient and controlled to the literally breaking point. A truly nightmarish alien creature. 🔸️Alina is Threxin total opposite. Kind, compasionate and emotional. Tormented in her loyalties. I must admit that as story progressed I started to dislike her a bit, however I appreciate how author tangled her in all story's plot twists. Well done. 🔸️The presented universe is fascinating and exciting to discover. 🔸️I really enjoyed writing style. The story is on longer style but I have read it in almost one sitting. I was totaly consumed by it. Definitely want more!

So definitely a five star read but let me just say real quickly that I wasn’t a fan of the ending I Wanted soooo much more from it BUT the plot was phenomenal in my opinion. This read was out of my comfort zone and I am so glad I gave it a chance and went in blind. I loved the world building on Colossal it was really fun as someone who doesn’t delve into the SciFi kinda realm to imagine this ship with all its technicalities. I loved the broody Threxin and the people pleasing Alina and how they grow together and look for solutions to combine their people. I loved it! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Just like book 1, I read this one in a day cause its that good! It’s so hard to find proper sci fi/alien romance that is not cozy fated mates. This had real plot and world building. I really couldn't put it down. I loved the creative futuristic/alternative reality sci fi features of the ships and technologies and the alien race had real depth and history. The romance was delicious between Alina and Threxin, even more so than Book 1. I am really hoping that a few loose ends on this might mean this author will reward us with another book. Thank you booksirens for the free copy and for introducing me to this author.
"It was a violent crash of souls— their minds building tethers that knotted and cinched as if by primal recognition."
After the absolute cliffhanger in Colossal, Command immediately picks up where we left off.
I absolutely loved this one. From the beginning, I was hooked. Alina' character drew me in. Her reactions seemed almost normal compared to Kaia. Between the action, betrayals, forbidden romance, and the spice, I couldn't put it down.
This one is definitely my favorite so far, and I can't wait to see how the story will continue for the characters and how they will learn to co-exist after then ending of this one.
These are much better than the average alien romance. There’s a decent plot and everything.
But the FMC.. I like that she’s so kind. But the stupidity is over done. I’m pretty dumb. I take things way too literally. And I’m socially awkward. So it means something when I say this girl is intolerably stupid.
I get that she had to save this dude because we need a romance and all, but realistically it’s unacceptable. I mean I know ‘realistic’ isn’t a huge priority with aliens, but these guys are planning human genocide. There is no chance that it would be worth the risk.
I paid for it though, so I’m gonna suspend my disbelief and tolerate some idiocy.
This is another fab read for the series and it's a true enemies-to-lovers romance. We have a villainous commander of a hostile alien race, Threxin, and basically, a human worker drone, Alina, who saves him. Risky business! This is a slow burn romance that's unfolded in a very realistic way. You definitely can expect an alien romance with this one and that's fascinating on its own ;) I'm really enjoying this series and love that the author keeps the characters true to how they are...except with their mate ;D Can't wait for the next book!
Humans and the uhyre a truly "alien" alien species with (in a human POV) amoral - or strictly logical - behaviour are thrown together on the generational ship Colossal in search for New Earth.
Complex (and sometimes not very likeable) characters. Even Alina the FMC - battling with anxiety, grief and loss and navigating between the two species to improve the human living conditions - is not an easy-to-like person.
Highly recommended. I recommend also reading prior books.
Another banger from Alexandra Norton! It was so hard to put this book down. I loved being able to see characters from the first book while also learning about the new characters introduced. Alina and Threxin fit so well together!!! They were enemies at first and the way they started falling for each other was so natural. The progression of the story and increased world building were awesome. I am so so excited for future books in this series! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Really enjoyed this one! Command was book 2, but can be read as a stand-alone. It was a dark, enemies to lovers trope and I liked the way the author wrote it. I’m sorta picky about how it’s supposed to work and she does an excellent job making me believe it. It was fast paced and interesting. And it was wild how they were able to be together. Alexandra Norton has a real talent for this genre and she’s an automatic read for me. I received an ARC for free, and I am writing this voluntarily.
I really liked this book, even if it was a bit too long of a slow burn for me. There’s some really good character development for both MCs, and their love story really felt genuine. I didn’t read the previous book in the series, and while I was still able to enjoy it, I would definitely recommend reading the first book before this one. Great book though!

I loved everything about this book. Alina was so relatabe and real as a character. Threxin was just, whew, hot. He never tried to be something he wasn't. He was always alien. I appreciated that the author didn't try to humanize him. I can't wait to rummage through the rest of the author's works and devour them.
This is a new to me author (yes, despite all warnings, I did read the second book first) and I am absolutely in love with her!
The world building was fantastic, the characters jumped off the screen and now I can't wait to read everything else by this author… Starting with the first book in the series.
Definitely a must read for anyone who loves sci-fi romance.
After checking out the sample for book 1 and not really feeling it I was very happy to see that book 2 was already out, sounded much more my speed, and could be read as a standalone.
Enemies to Lovers (real ones) Relatable FMC Interesting Plot that was just long enough that things felt fleshed out Slow Burn
This book is primarily about Alina & Threxin and so is only presented from those two viewpoints. I found it impressive how Alina's POV revealed so much more about Kaia & Orion, providing depth while still remaining consistent with the characters as developed in the first book.
This second book was an epic, enemies to lovers story with fantastic world building. Alina and Threxin were compelling characters with an intense relationship. A very enjoyable, lengthy read filled with forbidden love, steamy scenes and brutality.
