In a story of serendipity and personal growth, two individuals' lives will intersect in the most unexpected way.
Joey Beckham exudes creativity and independence. She's about to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, fulfilling her late father's dream of visiting the Greek island of Crete. But Joey's world is flipped upside down when she discovers a heart-wrenching betrayal.
Cam Connelly is accustomed to taking care of others, but he desperately yearns to break away from his family's expectations and nurture desires of his own. Will he choose the life they set out for him or the path that fuels the spark in his soul?
Fate weaves its intricate web when Joey and Cam find themselves stranded on a picturesque Greek island. They must join forces to navigate their way home.
There's just one The bed-and-breakfast has only one vacant room.
With one bed.
But it's fine. They'll never see each other again, right?Packed with laugh-out-loud humor, witty banter, and a whole lot of spice, Katie Van Brunt’s debut novel proves second chances are possible and that a person can pursue their dreams while sharing them with the people they love most.
For the Plot is the first book in the All for Love interconnected stand-alone series but can be read on its own.
Katie Van Brunt writes steamy rom-com stories with banter, mental health, and lots of texts on page.
Before writing romance, Katie was a dance and yoga instructor. Originally from Florida, Katie has also lived in California, North Carolina, Virginia and Greece, but she currently resides on the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i with her family.
An ARC was kindly provided by Grey’s Promotion in exchange for an honest review.
For the Plot is an enjoyable, cute and funny book that follows Joey and Cam’s story. They first met when they got caught in a storm and were left behind, all while dealing with personal issues, during a holiday in Crete. This encounter resulted in a passionate night, after which they parted ways to never meet again. That is, until a year later when they find themselves on the same island again, just feeling like different people. They couldn't have come from more different backgrounds and be more different. Josephine, aka Joey, Beckham comes from a family that has been falling apart ever since her dad died when she was 10. She’s an aspiring author and is writing a book that is heavily inspired by her own life. Cameron, Cam, Connelly, on the other hand, comes from money. His family owns a famous and luxurious hotel chain, and he’s expected to follow his dad’s footsteps and assume the presidency of the family’s business…only his dream is to work as a photographer and explore the world. After a year, Joey has discovered more about who she is and has sworn herself off the dating business forever, and Cam has finally stood his ground and pursued what he wanted. They have a wild chemistry from the moment they first saw each other, and when they finally meet again, as Cam puts it, it can only be because of fate. I really like their relationship and how it was worked by the author – how Joey learned how and allowed herself to trust Cam, and how he was so supportive and trying to always be by her side. The story is fast paced, although very descriptive in some moments that felt unnecessary as they didn't really connect with the characters’ lore for the book. Also, even though their relationship was well presented and worked on, I missed a bit more of development and dialogue – in the sense that I can understand what and how everything happened, but some things were left written at a surface level. Anyways, the book was overall good and a great debut! You should definitely give it a shot! Thanks, Grey’s Promotions and Katie Van Brunt, for the opportunity to read this book!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a romance book. And what a way to return to this genre with Katie Van Brunt's "For the Plot."
In her remarkable debut, “For the Plot,” Katie delivers a love story that seamlessly blends elements of steam, romance, humor, and adventure. From the very first chapter, I found myself spellbound.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Santa Monica, Crete, and NYC, Joey and Cam’s romance was an unexpected delight brimming with witty banter, delicious meals, and a memorable cast of secondary characters worthy of their own stories--Millie, I’m looking at you.
The steamy scenes throughout the story were well-crafted, titillating, and unforgettable. I should add that Chapter 42 and the bonus chapter had me blushing profusely.
The back stories woven into the narrative were poignant and purposeful; never feeling gratuitous.
As I turned the pages, I couldn’t help but marvel at Katie’s talent. “This can’t possibly be her debut,” I thought to myself several times. It’s rare to come across a debut novel that leaves such a lasting impression, but “For the Plot” just does that. With its flying vibrators, steamy scenes, exotic Crete, and unforgettable characters, this book is a testament to Katie’s talent and potential. I can’t wait to see what Katie has in store for us next.
• Vacation Fling • Forced proximity • Lighthearted romance • Mental health rep • Man obsessed • Mutual pining • Friends with Benefits • Slow burn with high heat
I am blown away that this is Katie's debut novel!!
This book was exactly what I needed to pull me out of what I thought was a never-ending book slump! It was flirty and fun, but somehow still managed to punch me in the heart when I least expected it. These two characters couldn’t have been more lovable, and I loved the chemistry between them! Unfortunately, they both had a lot of relationship trauma to work through before leaning into the relationship.
It felt like the harder she pushed him away, the more the universe tugged them back together, placing them in situations that made it very hard to ignore the growing attraction they had for one another. But once they gave in… MY GOSH, this book was HOT. Especially THE BONUS SCENE!!! I love a man who isn't intimidated by a woman and let's her SHINE! And Cam did exactly that for Joey in so many ways. He was such a beautiful caretaker with the sweetest heart! I loved the way their relationship evolved. It was the sweetest!
This book gave me laughs and had me swooning! Its packed full of spice and heart. Katie Van just skyrocketed to my auto-buy list. I can’t wait to read For The Show!!! The relationship we get to see growing between Ezra and Millie was so perfect. It has me wanting to pick it up NOW!!
🎧Audiobook review🎧 Duet Narration Narrated by JF Harding and Alexis Page
My gosh, these two sound so good in duet! The banter was an absolute delight brought to life flawlessly by these two. JF Harding did such an incredible job as Cam, the broody, obsessed MMC. He captured every emotional beat so well, from Cam’s quiet intensity to the absolute sweetness of his obsession with Joey. His deep, gravelly voice was perfect, especially paired with the way Alexis Paige brought Joey’s sassy, confident energy to life.
Alexis as Joey couldn't have been better cast. She nailed every emotion Joey dealt from her vulnerability, to fire and her wit. I laughed, I swooned, and I felt every moment between them.
These two nailed this audiobook. Their chemistry, delivery, and tone made it feel like I was right there with the characters. I already know this is going to be a comfort listen I’ll come back to again and again!
Ever since I made a bookstagram, I am so easily influenced lol. Two solid reviews from some of my favorite bookstagrammers is what led me to this book. It was such a good debut novel! I’ve read so many debuts this year and idk why I’m surprised that nearly all of them have been very good. The beginning caught my attention for sure, but for a few chapters, it felt like a narrator setting the scene for us. I wasn’t really hooked until Joey and Cam hooked up ;) for the first time. I LOVED their time in Greece. I’m a sucker for a vacation romance and this book had me wanting to book a trip to Crete. For that reason, I think I enjoyed the first half of this book more than the second half. Life and insecurities get too real once they make it back home. The vacation setting was way more fun lol They have a slight age gap, but it’s only briefly mentioned once or twice. The steam may take you by surprise lol It’s in the reviews I read, it’s in the author’s note, but nothing really prepared me for what Cam.. offers lol Aside from a handful of parts sounding like a narrator telling us what’s happening / happened instead of showing us, one of my main gripes with this book was that two big things happened and we don’t really get to see them. Cam writes her a letter that changes everything for them, but we don’t get to read the letter (it’s offered at the end as a newsletter sign up). And then there’s a particularly steamy scene that happens at the end of a chapter, and we don’t get to know what happens until the bonus epilogue. What gives!? It felt so weird that those pieces were missing. It’s nice that we can still read them, but I personally think it would’ve worked better if it was in the story when it was mentioned. Overall, I really did enjoy this debut! I definitely liked the first half better than the second half, but it’s really because I just wanted to spend more time in Greece lol Cam and Joey seem like an unlikely pair to me, but they balance each other out and just want what’s best for each other. The steam is definitely abundant and steamy lol sometimes it felt like too much. I liked this book enough to know that if Ezra gets a book, I’ll definitely be back to read it.
I really loved the first half of this book, the way Joey & Cam met in Greece was so much fun! I also enjoyed the “fate” aspect of everything when they reconnected in Greece a year later & finding out they both live in NY & then all of the other little things that were mentioned. I liked both characters separately, they’re both strong mc’s who go after what they want.
I did feel like the romance was very surface level, they didn’t feel like soulmates to me. There was a lot of spice - most of which I enjoyed but there were a few scenes that were not my cup of tea ( & that’s ok!!) The second half of the book felt a little drawn out and I felt like Joey had the same conversation with Millie over & over again about why she didn’t want to be in another relationship.
Overall - there were some cute moments but the rest fell a little flat for me.
Thank you Katie for sending me the e-ARC of your debut novel. Even though I received this book for free the following review is a honest reflection of my own opinions….
5 stars babyyyy!!!
This is a debut? Excuse me, no it’s not, it can’t be, because this read like the newest release from a seasoned adult romance author! Katie really hit all the marks and went beyond in a lot of ways. I’m thoroughly impressed with her writing!
This was a spicy fun time loaded with tropes I’ve never even read before but that I’m a fan of now! I’ve also never read a book with this setting before.
This book had me laughing out loud so many times, usually at least once a chapter if not more!! I love when rom coms actually deliver on the “com” part because sometimes they aren’t funny enough, but this one was really funny.
This is random and kind of only applies to me although I’m sure it will apply to many others, I adored the references sprinkled throughout this book! Katie mentions my favorite Christmas movie, my favorite romance author, and so many more little things that really resonated with me (but I’ll leave those as a surprise for you guys to discover yourselves when you read it).
The flirty banter between not only the main couple but the side couple as well was so on point!! You could feel the sexual tension coming right off the page. Sometimes in intimate scenes dialogue can be a little cringey but with this book it was very well done.
Also we need to talk about how there was so much consent talk in the intimate scenes and so much mutual trust and respect between the couple! It was very mature and refreshing to read. We like adults actually acting like adults in adult romances, don’t we? Haha
Even though this is a very spicy adult romance there’s still a good balance of emotional elements as both characters have personal struggles and some trauma from their pasts they are still working through. And with the comedic relief and the spice you really get a well rounded love story.
I can’t really think of anything I didn’t like about this book which is rare for me because I can usually find something to complain about, but I truly have nothing bad to say about this book. It did take me a while to read only because I read much slower on my kindle than I do physical or audio, but I can’t wait to add a physical copy to my trophy shelf.
Your hearts (and vaginas) are not ready for Cam and Joey! Charge those batteries….
Holy Mother of hotness what did I just read. This is Katies DEBUT. How in the Flying vibrators is this possible?! Debut?! I cannot even begin to describe how good this was. I dont know what ended up wanting - No needing - Cam more, my heart or my vagina. Speaking off.. down girl. Hes fictional. 😭
This was better than open door. This was zero door and we got front row seats with complimentary popcorn. My rating ♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️♾️. Want to read again. Right. Now.
I have a ridiculously long list of book boyfriends and Cam strolled down that line staring at the others swinging a strap on round his finger smirking at them and firmly put himself up there in that top 5! I just cannot! I loved this guy so much, this whole book actually.. because Josefine was just as phenomenal. She was in control but also he was so patient with her and just the two of them together. Ah, Perfection!
The side characters (I NEED their book) were hilarious, the pace was great, character growth. Tension. All so so good. The Spice was.. dear lord. Flutters was an understatement. This had me practically panting. And the bonus scene. Katie. Ive never read that and, Hello ✔️ New Kink UNLOCKED!!
Do not let this cover fool you into thinking this is a cute romcom. This book is packing and id HIGHLY recommend picking this up on release day!
i say this a lot but this had me giggling and kicking my feet!! love the dynamic between them, will def be reading more books by katie when they are published. i cannot believe this is her debut book: it was so good!!
This is an enjoyable read with two interesting main characters. I was left entertained but felt something was lacking - a feeling of connection with the characters.
Josephine/Joey is a young woman who is writing a novel which is semi-autobiographical. After her father died when she was 10 years old her life spiraled out of control when her mom started dating a revolving door of wealthy men and using pain meds and alcohol to drown out her emotions. Joey was left unsupervised for much of teen years and has emotional scars she’s dealing with through ongoing therapy.
Cameron/Cam grew up in a very wealthy East Coast family with the expectation he would step in to run the family’s hotel business. He was set-up in a modern day marriage of convenience with the daughter of his parent’s friends, but he isn’t happy.
A trip to Greece is life changing for both Joey and Cam. The story focuses on the theme of the universe helping someone achieve what they want and soulmates/fate.
I didn’t give book more than 3-stars for a few reasons.
The book is extremely descriptive about mundane, everyday life events/experiences, but it doesn’t build a sense of connection with the main characters or the people in their lives. For example, Joey’s writing partner in Santa Monica was a big part of her life and then he pretty much disappears with just a few mentions of him. Side characters are introduced, but don’t really compel the story along or add much.
The relationship between Joey and Cam deepens, but it still feels surface level to some degree. For the number of pages (400) and the time span covered in this book, I want to feel like I really know the characters and this book just didn’t give me that feeling.
It’s an enjoyable book, with romantic and steamy elements, but I feel like it was more women’s lit with a message versus a true romance.
I received a free ARC from the author and Grey’s PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Find your new favorite indie author! Trust me when I say that this book is an amazing debut. Cam and Joey are so well developed and their chemistry, banter, and journey are so good! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - second chance - dual pov - one bed - nude beach - cinnamon roll mmc - mental health rep

If you're looking for the perfect summer romcom, pick this up! This was such a beautiful debut novel, and I can’t wait to see what else Katie has in store for us in the future!
✈️ Review: This book was so packed full of characters who make you love them, travel, spice, and emotional depth. I enjoyed the writing of this one and really found myself loving the dynamic between Joey and Cam. There’s so much that goes on between the two characters in this book from the moment they meet to their happily ever after. You really get a chance to get attached to them and the side characters in the book as well because of the plot line and how much time we get to know them and their stories. I loved the settings in this book, it really made me wanna travel and take a nice vacation with my man! I loved the Taylor Swift references in this book and that they were both readers, so you get to know them on that level too through their favorite books! Cameron is such a special man, he’s so good to Joey and I loved watching their relationship bloom. The spice was spicy in this one, especially the little bonus scene! If you’re looking for a fun filled spicy romance this is the one for you!
✈️ Thank you to the author and @greyspromo for the advanced copy of For The Plot. It is out now!
“God, I want to be all the way in with this woman. But not just physically. She’s already in my soul. It’s wild, I know, and I can’t explain it. I want all the strings, but for now, I’ll take anything she’s willing to give me.”
“Women should feel empowered in the bedroom, not ashamed. And life’s too short to have terrible sex.”
“D*mn. I love to take control in the bedroom, but a guy who knows what he wants is hot as h*ll.”
Joey and Cameron meet on vacation and have a one night stand. A year later they bump into each other again on vacation and from there the chance encounters continue to mount, like the universe is bringing them together. This book definitely has levels of emotions and family difficulties that they both endure and share with each other. But this book is also a fund spicy read!
Tropes: Second Chance One Bed One Night Stand He Falls First
[3.5 stars] I audibly gasped when I learned that this is a debut novel!!!!! This book started strong and ended with a banger of a story. Katie Van Brunt writes smoothly and effortlessly in the sense that she can weave both backstory and present timeline together and feel the sense of completeness. This is such a feel good read where Cameron and Joey got stranded together in this greek island and ended up spending the night together. You know the saying act like the main character of your story and think of everything that happens as “for the plot”? Yeah that’s exactly this book.
It’s fun, enjoyable, cute, and spicy especially the bonus scene 😏 I mean he did enjoy pegging so take whatever you can get from that 😗✌🏻I really enjoyed it and had an amazing time following their story. It felt like reading a summery book something I’ll read while on the beach!!
Thank you so much Katie and Greys Promo for an ARC opportunity
This book was so hot! Definitely recommend reading it before your Significant Other gets home so that you’re prepared or read it together because things will definitely be happening after 🥵🌶️
OMG OMG! This book I absolutely loved and I devoured the entire book within two days. I felt that I could read it faster but I wanted to enjoy it longer. The banter between the characters and the romance was perfect. This book is a favorite of mine and I'm so glad that I have it on my shelf now!
This book will make you want to immediately book the next flight to Greece in search for a Crete Meet Cute!

💭 My Thoughts: Miss ma'am!!!!! I was NOT expecting such a strong, sexually confident FMC who knows how to communicate her likes and dislikes in and out of the bedroom. And you know, I was living for it! For being so young, I was surprised with how well Joey was able to communicate her wants and needs with Cam. And can we talk about how open Cam is with EVERYTHING?!?! I mean our boy was all about letting Joey peg him. He was begging for a pegging and that whole bonus chapter 🥵 That alone will make me tell you to read this book!
Ok but besides the wicked good spice, this book was amazing! I loved the Greece vibes. Too often I feel like I read books with the same location vibes and after a while it can get old. So to read a book with a fresh new location was a lot of fun. This book has me looking at flights to return to Greece so I too can have a Crete meet cute!
I absolutely love Rom Coms. I love having the romance element with a side of great banter. And this book excelled at both. It's the perfect combination of plot, spice and witty banter. So if you are looking for a fun read that will make you giggle and blush, this is the book for you!
*I want to say thank you to Katie Van Brunt and Grey's Promo for giving me the opportunity to read For the Plot as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review!
For The Plot is a RomCom about Joey and Cam. They meet after they both become stranded from their cruise and have a one night stand. Their lives are forever changed and happenstance pulls them back to the island where they meet again and sparks fly.
I just want to say that I know I am not the intended audience for this story. My enjoyment of the story is not necessarily indicative of the writing or the quality of this story. It was cute, spicy, and there were some moments that had me laughing but also a couple of jokes felt uncomfortable for me (i.e. laughing about sharing a cab with a “prostitute”? What’s funny about that? They also didn’t know if this person was a sex worker or not… it’s recalled often in the story.) There were several moment where the humor didn’t work for me.
There is a huge subplot of grief for Joey as she lost her Dad really young and for Adam because he lost his sister at a young age too. It’s not a subject matter that appeals or that I was able to connect with.
This story is very spicy! There is a lot of open door sex that was well done on page! I mean, super hot!! I did feel like with the pacing of the book, the romance felt surface level and not as deep as I was told it was.
Overall, I think if you’re interested, check it out. It wasn’t a bad book and if you like spicy stories, this one will definitely appeal.
Looking at all the other reviews for this title, im starting to feel like the handprint on an otherwise perfect glass door.
But try as I might I just couldn't see in this one what others are seeing. Doesn't mean others can't enjoy it, but it does mean it wasn't for me.
I'm going to give a few of the reasons why:
At 15% in, the main characters didn't even know one another altgough wed spent an awful lot of time getting to know them each separately with the people they were dating at the beginning of the book.
This concerned me. But it's a brand new author so I decided to give this one longer than I usually would before giving in.
I found the dialogue choppy and a bit hard to follow in places. If I have to go back to see who is speaking, it's either the way it's written or I don't know the characters well enough to be able to know who said it.
But the thing that really got me, (and it pulled me out of the book), were the missing transitions. More than once I was in a scene and then all of a sudden I was somewhere else, the most memorable was I found myself surprised to be in a flashback.
The premise to this was appealing but I couldn't make it work for me.
This was so fun to read! I needed a break from series and sports romances so I wanted a stand alone book that was just cutesy. This definitely was that and more🌶️! It was giving Mamma Mia in book form and I loved every single second!! Excited to read book 2 whenever it comes out!
This was my first time reading a book by Katie Van Brunt and I LOVED it! This was a five star read for me. For the Plot felt like a well balanced book with plenty of story and plenty of spice! I don't mind a slow burn, but I appreciated how I didn't have to wait too long for some spice with this one. The character development was perfect and their story lines flowed so smoothly. I also enjoyed that Joey and Cam had some speed bumps along the way, but there was no third act breakup. This is a definite recommend for me.
Update to add the audiobook book is also an excellent option! JF Harding as Cam?!? YES PLEASE! ❤️🔥
I did feel like the book didn’t really start until 100 pages in. And I felts like there was a lot going on but also nothing at the same time.
Like it was Greece, L.A, Greece, NY and all over the place. I felt like some scenes were very short and often lead to spicy scenes which I LOVE but I did wish they could have a good conversation without that always being the end game, you know?
Anyways overall I enjoyed it but I felt some things could’ve easily been shortened in the first 100 pages imo. (The bonus scene? Oh I wasn’t expecting that 🫣😂)
Love it!!! Way too easy to get lost in the characters and the story. Finished it in one day while hanging out at the lounge airport and then in flight, that’s how captured I was. Also those sex scenes had me looking over my shoulder to make sure no one was looking! 👀 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
A vacation is what every couple needs. Two couple venture on a journey to Greece, but when each couple ends things Josefine and Cameron find each other after being left behind by the shuttle for their cruise ship. When these two need somewhere to stay they end up at a B&B one room, one bed, one night stand. It’s just one night it could never lead to more…
I have a lot to say about this book. First I want to start with the relationship of Cameron and Josefine, their relationship is so fun and spontaneous. However, when Cameron gets the courage to really share his feelings it shows how sometimes it takes one person opening up to feel safe. They also are just so natural together right away even when getting left behind by the shuttle, their banter is so funny and will have you smiling. Throughout the story their relationship just continues to blossom and mature, I just love every minute of them. Plus the spice…WOW does Cam have a dirty mouth. Joey though is equally just as dominate which I totally love. Women need to also feel confident during sex. One quote Joey says that I love is “Life’s too short to have terrible sex.” She displays confidence and it is just empowering!
The side characters also have a special place for me in this story. Of course her cousin Millie is her BFF, however I love Cam and Ezra. I don’t know why but I love male friendships because: one they are so different from female ones and two they are so loyal to each other. Cam describes Ezra as his platonic soulmate which I think is just so sweet and speaks to true friendship.
Lastly, parent loss. I instantly connect with characters who lose a parent. At 22 I lost my mom and grief is just so heavy. In this story the rawness and reality that grief has is done beautifully. How even though she lost her father at ten she still cries when talking about him. I also love how Cam ask questions like “what was he like?” Instead of immediately jumping to pity. He wants her to talk about him, which I wish people did more in real life. So thank you to the author for this particular part in this story.
If you love a good rom com, with funny banter, great side characters, one bed, one time, he falls first…this story is for you!!

🎧 ALC Review 🎧:
Alexis Paige & JG Harding did an absolutely amazing job narrating this book. I don't think anyone else could have done Joey and Cam Justice like they did. They really brought these characters to life and I absolutely enjoyed every minute.
Joey and Cam are the IT couple for me. They couldn't have been a more perfect couple for each other. I loved everything about each other for each other. Their banter was on point. Their chemistry was astronomical, not to mention the spice 🔥 that they held between them.
Joey was a character that you couldn't help but love. She had such a great personality that you just knew that you would be BFFs with her if you knew her personally. She had been through a lot in her life. Not only losing a parent but also dealing with a parent who had substance abuse issues. She constantly battled to just live her dream of being a writer.
Joey deserved to have the love of her life treat her as such instead of treating her like the afterthought she was treated like. When she found Cam, she was treated like she was his only thought. She found out what it was like to be his one and only when she was with him. She deserved the love that Cam had for her in so many ways.
Cam was such an amazing man. I absolutely loved him 😍. He fell first and soooo hard for Joey. She struggled to really just let him love her the way he wanted to love her because of her past relationship. Cam was an amazing man who was more than willing to show her what a real man who was more than willing and able to love her was like.
I loved these two so much. Their banter was like no other. I laughed and giggled like a school girl. Well like I was in the middle of the conversation myself 😂.
🔥 Let's Talk About Sex Baby 🥵: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
This book was full of sexy surprises. I loved every single one of them! I loved how open and honest Joey and Cam were with each other when it came to their time together. They weren't shy about being honest with each other. They were open about trying new things and I loved that about them!
That bonus scene was the absolute cherry 🍒 on top of the sundae! If you haven't listened to that scene I'm going to have to ask you to run and listen to it right MEOW 😻!
