Obert Skye read his first book at age two. He wrote his first story at age four. And he was nearly trampled by a herd of water buffalo at age six. For a short time, he lived on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where he spent time as a candy-taster. Several years ago, Obert Skye says, he discovered the existence of Foo. Publishing his story as a fictional series was not Obert’s first choice. Nevertheless he is content that the “history” is being told.

Hobbies and other interests: Collecting old maps, water polo, roller coasters.

I'm docking a star because the author is apparently ignoring the series...the sequel should have been out long ago.

*Update. Docked another star because eight years later, no sequel and I’m still mad the author left his characters in such a poor situation with no resolution. If you aren’t going to finish a story, don’t start it.

Don’t read this book, unless you enjoy the feeling of a cliffhanger that will never resolve.

I love Foo. My favorite character from the LT series would have to be Geth. This is the second book in the Beyond Foo series, picking up from the mini-cliffhanger of the first book. I love Skye's sense of humor in all of his books, and this is no exception. Though, I felt like this was kind of an in-between book, not a ton of action in it, though neccessary to the overall plot. Geth, Clover, and Zale continue in their quest to defeat Payt, encountering the Tangle yet again, enlisting Those Who Hide and the Stoneholders. But the seemingly simple task of defeating Payt takes many turns throughout the book. I love Skye's writing, and I've given most of his books five stars- but, oh my gosh, the ending of this book. Was. Horrible. Worst cliffhanger ever. I love this book, but I really wish it hadn't ended like that. I'm dying to get the next book now. Not to end on a downer, this book is way funny (just not the ending). This is probably one of his funniest books (the ha-ha kind, not the other awkward one). It was awesome.

I read the 1st in the Leven Thumps series and was hooked! Quickly read through them and then on to Beyond Foo as it really is all one big adventure😊all 7 books in 2 weeks and then..........what! No ending, just falls off the edge in to nothing! Come on now Mr Skye its like making a birthday cake and not adding the icing or candles, here ya go Im sure you wont miss them. Hope the next pie you get is missing its filling then you might know how it feels to be as empty as this last book...... If you do finish it, Ill eat my words as it stands now its legless......😕😔👎

In Obert Skye's second installment of the land beyond Foo, Geth and the Deception of Dreams, we continue our journey right where we left off. Geth has just freed his brother from the prison where he's been held captive for years, only to find that his brother has no intention of being 'saved'! He puts up a pretty serious fight to get back into the 'safety' of his prison and makes life very difficult for Geth and Clover.

At first, Geth just wants to get Zale (his brother) back to Foo and leave Zendor, but then he feels that he needs to defeat Payt and free Zendor from Payt's evil grip. Geth tries over and over again to ignite some spark into the Dreams (Foo and Zendor are the places where the people in your dreams go after you've woken up. You didn't think they disappeared, did you? Oh no, they live on!) and rally them together in order to defeat Payt and have a free land once again. The main problem is that the Dreams don't really want to be rallied. They want to stay hidden. This never dampens Geth, though. He is determined, and that determination leads to a novel full of non-stop action!

There are a few things to be aware of when reading this novel. First of all, the absolute best parts are the first paragraphs of each chapter! The narrator is beyond hilarious as he randomly introduces each chapter with seemingly obscure anecdotes. I laughed out loud at each of them, and read many to my ten year old son who chuckled right along with me.

The next thing you need to know, is that this is not a stand-alone book. It is the second in a series and in order to enjoy it, you must read the first. This series is an off-shoot from an entirely different series (Leven Thumps by the same author) and I would also recommend reading that even before reading these. You won't be disappointed--they are great fun (and perfect for those boys in your life who just don't really want to read)!

The last thing that you should probably be warned about: The ending is quite the cliff-hanger!! Honestly, the suspense is killing me!

If you are a fan of Leven Thumps, Geth, or just Obert Skye in general, you'll enjoy this newest installment to the land of Foo. I recommend Obert Skye books as great reads for young people.

Geth has found his brother Zale and is determined to free the whole of Zendor from Payt's controlling rule. Zale, however, has changed. His time in Payt's dungeons has broken his lithen attitude from endless optimism to endless despair. And the dreams of Zendor are spineless, happier to hide and escape Payt than try to resist his mind-altering voice. Clover would be happy just to get back to Foo. But Geth has bigger plans . . .

Zale provides the counterbalance to Geth's eternal optimism, which is part of what makes this volume a better ride than the first book. Geth is changing---Ezra's personality is more and more evident in the way he gets angry, gets violent, gets passionate. And nothing fires him up more than the way Payt can just run over everyone because no one has the ability to stop him.

Zale is, however, ANNOYING. Geth is disturbed by his own inclinations towards violence, but when it's in Zale's direction it's hard not to cheer him on. Geth and Clover remain the strongest characters, and they get a lot more time and space to flesh out. Zendor, too, gets more depth. I suspect, though it was never explicitly mentioned, that Zendor is where dreams go not only when they are fervently believed, but when they have been cast off by those who once held to them. The glimpses the story gives into how to travel to Zendor lend to something far more depressing than Foo's mission of hope and enhancing dreams.

The end provides the first glimpse of a few old friends from the previous series, and a seriously terrible cliffhanger considering the second book has been out for a few years and there isn't even a hint of if or when the third one will be coming. So, be warned. This book does bring the series up from Geth and the Return of the Lithens, but without book 3 it is going to be a frustrating place to stop. I rate this book Recommended.

"Beyond Foo" should have been one single companion novel, not a separate story arc. The "plot twists" in this story are completely predictable, as the same thing basically happens repeatedly, just with different characters. The story line is this: despair, anger, violence, despair, despair, anger, despair, anger, violence, repeat. I saw absolutely no point in this sequel. Worse, there was a terrible cliffhanger at the end, with no book to finish up the story. Please, save yourself the trouble and don't read any of the "Beyond Foo" books, unless the third book comes out to finish the story. From the fact that the second book has been out for years and the third hasn't even been announced, I doubt it will ever happen.

The first couple Leven Thumps books were great, degrading over time, but by the time I got to this book, Obert Skye really had no more to write about! This book drags on, for hundreds of pages, becoming one of the few books I ever put down! There is MUCH better books to read! If you haven't read the other Leven Thumps books, read those! This one is definitely worth skipping!

It was short, and didn't feel like it had spectacular conflict. It felt less dramatic than the previous series; perhaps aimed more at a younger crowd.

However, I did enjoy it.

This series on Foo is not as good as the Leven Thumps series but it is ok. It is really hard to keep yourself interested at times.

The plots to his books are mildly interesting, but I love the first paragraph of every chapter. It's the right kind of humor for me.
