When in Rotheberg #5

When You Fall for a Prince

Rate this book
When college senior Eva Hertzberg took a term abroad, she was hoping to find her purpose in life. She had no interest in falling in love.

But she's happy to see her old friend, Teo Feltz, and have him show her around his hometown. She doesn't realize Teo is also Prince Sebastien Teodor Florian von Freiberg, nephew of the current Grand Duchess. She also doesn't know Teo has been in love with her for years.

When Eva meets Teo's cousin, the Hereditary Grand Duke, she's swept off her feet. A small-town girl is no match for the heir to the throne, even in a country as small as Freiberg.

Can Teo convince Eva that being the Grand Duchess might be glamorous–but that she's worth so much more?

When You Fall for a Prince is a small-town, hidden-royalty, childhood-friends-to-more romantic comedy that won't steam your glasses.

Lia Huni writes sweet romantic comedy that won't steam your glasses. After travelling the world with the Air Force, she moved with her husband and three children to a small town in the mountains of Oregon that bears no resemblance to the town in her books. Well, not much.

Okay, there's a strong resemblance, but it's completely coincidental.

When You Fall for a Prince is a classic royalty undercover type book with a funny twist: he thinks she must already know. I'm a sucker for the childhood friend you've had a secret crush on for years trope, and this book did not disappoint me. Lia Huni is funny, she writes lovable characters and great side characters into her story, and I found myself wanting to visit the places she described in her book.
I received this book as an ARC, and it was my first book I've read from this author but it definitely will not be my last. I'm so happy to have found another sweet clean author who writes fun characters, great dialog, and tension filled relationships! This is my honest review of this fantastic book. 3.5*

“That was very sexy, by the way. Standing up to the empress.” My chest seems to burn under the light touch of her fingers. I slip my other arm around her, pulling her close. I press a soft kiss to her temple, savoring the feel of her in my arms. “If I’d known you felt that way, I’d have done it sooner.”
She draws in a quick breath. “Did you do that for me?” Her chin tilts up, and her breath warms my lips. “I do everything for you.”

When You Fall for a Prince is the 5th book in a series of books, but I had no issues reading this one without reading the other books first. That said, I devoured this book, so I’d love to read the other books as well. The story flowed beautifully and pulled me in easily. I really enjoyed both of the main characters as well as the interesting side characters. There’s some scenes that are quite comical and give the story a lighthearted feel. The romance is a bit of a slow-burn, but I enjoyed both main characters growing and finding themselves along the way. I’m really impressed that this is an indie book, since it felt just as polished as books I’ve read from large publishers and well-known authors.

Thank you to the author for the advance review copy of When You Fall for a Prince! All opinions in my review are completely my own and voluntary.

This was a fun and cute romance with hidden identity and royalty. It seems like so many royalty romance stories focus on heirs to the throne or the immediate family. I liked the Royal character in this story being a little further down the line of succession. There were many fun and funny moments in this story. My absolute favourite was the prank war. It was fantastic. “Dad and I have a history of playing pranks on each other…” The romance was sweet and gradual. Just an all-around adorable story. Eva was doing a semester abroad in Frieberg. Unbeknownst to her, Teo, who she knew from back home, was actually a member of the Royal family. Getting that information out in the open was quite a process, and a barrier to growing feelings. “Present Me has regretted Past Me’s decisions on more than one occasion.” There is quite a bit of crossover between the books of this series so I suggest reading the series in order for the best experience, but this book can also work as a standalone. This is a closed door romance with mild innuendo and no harsh language.

This was the first book I have read by Lia Huni, but it won't be the last. I read a lot of romance novels and there are a lot of them out there to choose from, so my litmus test for any new book I pick up is does it grab me right away. Do I get the feeling I am going to like the main character or characters? The answer in this instance was, yes. From the very first paragraph, I had the impression this would be a good read and I was not disappointed. I really liked the main characters and the supporting characters. I enjoyed that it is dual point of view. I enjoyed the story. Do I think that everyone else knowing that the male lead was a prince and the female lead didn't is a little outlandish? Yes, but who cares. I read these novels to suspend reality and have fun and this book delivered. I recommend reading it and I will read additional books by Lia Huni.

"When You Fall for a Prince" by Lia Huni delivers a delightful romantic comedy filled with charm and humor. College senior Eva Hertzberg embarks on a term abroad, expecting to find her purpose, not love. Reconnecting with old friend Teo Feltz, she's unaware he's actually Prince Sebastien Teodor Florian von Freiberg. As Eva becomes entangled with the royals, including the charismatic Hereditary Grand Duke, the stage is set for a captivating love triangle. Huni crafts a heartwarming tale of hidden royalty, childhood friends-to-lovers, and the pursuit of true love. With engaging characters and a witty narrative, this novel is a feel-good read that will leave readers smiling.

very predictable but sweet romance. i really liked the plot development, the writing style however?

'He puts his arm around my shoulder. "You're safe with me."
"Where's Andi?" Hans asks. "She probably already called the car."
"Good point." I pull out my phone and text my sister. Her reply comes through quickly. "She's headed back to Rosen-häuschen. With the car. We can wait?"
Eva shakes her head. "I'd rather walk." '

This chapter was supposed to be written in Eva's perspective. Tell why why it changes to Teo's perspective in the middle of it?

I always enjoy visiting Rotheberg - or in this case Freiberg - and it was a special treat for me to read Eva's story. I've had a soft spot for her ever since I got to know her in book #3, and I loved seeing her (and Teo!) shake up the Grand Duchy (not to mention the Grand Duchess) of Freiberg real good. :)
I just adore this charmng, quirky world Lia Huni has created - and all its equally charming and/or quirky inhabitants. More please?

Love This Author and Series

Eva and Teo and the rest of the gang in this series always feel like old friends. I laugh at the pranks Eva and her Dad pull on each other. Their friend Hans is predictable and funny. Teo's aunt and cousin make great villains. I so enjoy Eva's love for life and friends and family, and Teo's love for Eva. The whole book just feels good and I love the ending. Well done!

I loved this book so much! Eva is so much fun she wants to follow the rules but also doesn’t understand the rules. Teo is so fun he thinks that Eva already knows when she clearly doesn’t. Teo also falls first and he falls hard! This book is so sweet and a very slow burn. Would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun sweet read!

This was sweet and funny! Eva is so fun to follow with her friends while she figures out her feelings for Teo. And you can’t help but root for Teo to finally tell her how he feels! There was a rich back story and the setting was vibrant and fun! I now need to check out some more books from Lia Huni!!!

Eva is going on a foreign adventure. She is setting off for a semester in Freiberg, and she has no idea what is coming. She will make new friends, meet some royals -- even if she isn't clear on exactly who is who, and possibly get a shot at her long-time crush. It's all very funny.

This was a great read! It's a slow burn romance. The characters are well developed and many moments had me laughing. I also appreciated the princess Bride quotes... Among other things. Cute, clean,no cussing and an HEA.

Eva is the daughter of Matt and niece to Blake from previous books. She's spending a semester abroad as a foreign exchange student. She starts running into problems as soon as she arrives. Thankfully, her longtime friend Teo, is there to help. But she's unaware of exactly who Teo is. They've had crushes on each other for years but never owned up to it. Will this time spent in his home country bring them together? What happens when she discovers who he is? When she meets his extended family sparks fly? Can they find love or are they destined to go separate ways? I hope there are more books for their friends/family.

I received an ARC from the author. Review voluntarily given.
