i couldn’t recommend this audiobook and this series more, no matter what level you are. it’s definitely useful to use alongside your japanese study, as it provides insight into more natural and friendly japanese conversation (formal, still, but not too formal) than you learn when studying from those CDs that come with the scary textbooks.

The first chapters are the best since they teach you a lot of basics.
But then, there's a lot of chapters about the culture and history (which don't help with learning the language).
There's a final chapter or two that tries to teach new material, but the narrator talks so fast it's really hard to follow and there's no space for repetition.
I've learned most out of the first few chapters of the books, but that's it.

I like the various JapanesePod series to augment my Japanese studies with a lot of listening comprehension. The series comes with a book that covers the various grammar points touched during the podcast episodes. After listening to an episode here and there, I decided to start from the beginning and doing them all in order. This one is the very basic one, it includes very little dialogue and a lot about culture. Do not start here, try some of the other one first.

May 19, 2021I had listened to the collection of podcasts back when they first came out. It's nice they're all together. Audible has a lot of the levels for free with a subscription.
