MAYHEM I sit back, watch, take it all in, as I determine my next move. I’m quiet, stealthy, and always ready to act—making my enemies regret their every decision. It’s always the silent shy-type people need to worry about. And they worry about me. Come hell or high water, I’m going to take down this serial killer before it’s too late.
When K19 needs the best profiler in the business to come out of “retirement,” it takes every bit of my charisma to convince her to help. And now, there’s no holding back. She’s going to learn why they call me MAYHEM. GRACE No way, not a chance. I’m officially in “retirement.” Not that I’m anywhere near old enough. I’m just done facing off against the dregs of humanity and looking filth right in the eye. Now, though, it’s time to trust the one man who makes it all worthwhile—the one who makes me lose control. He’s chaos and mayhem, and I cannot get enough. Can the two of us together find the courage to destroy the serial killer who’s hellbent on destroying us?
While each book in the K19 Shadow Operations Series is a standalone with its own HEA, the books may be more enjoyable read in order.
Darko and Mayhem – the peanut butter and jelly of profiling.
This is the final book in the K19 Shadow Ops Team One series. We have followed each of the team members as they meet and find their HEA while tracking down a serial killer.
Mayhem has only one regret the way he handled the end of things with Grace years ago while hunting a different serial killer. Now in need of a partner to profile and catch Thanatos he will cross the line and bring her back into the fold. Grace doesn’t want anything to do with Emmett after the way he shattered her life and confidence years earlier. Her conscience won’t let her walk away.
Hanadarko and Mayhem take us with them through all the clues, bodies, and suspects in an in-depth version of the profiling process. It was thrilling to read these two in action. Thanatos’ reign of fear will come to an end after 50 years if they can learn to work together again.
This is an action-packed culmination is full of friendship, anger, love, and forgiveness. Sometimes in life you can find a second chance in the least likely of places. This is truly a must read from Heather Slade. Every book in her world gets better and better.
I was given an ARC copy of this book and have given an honest review.
Heather Slade ya done did it again!! I would most definitely give more than 5 stars if I could!!! Code Name: Mayhem is the fifth book in the K19 Shadow Ops Team One series. After having read all of them (I re-read the first four books prior to reading Mayhem) and I have to be honest, I was not able to figure out who the serial killer was. I was close but wrong! The entire series was a captivating page turner!! It was hard to wait for Mayhem, but wait I did. Heather Slade does not disappoint, EVER!!! I found Mayhem to be tall, gorgeous, and smart! Hanadarko is tiny, gorgeous and also very smart. She is also a firecracker when she gets riled up! I enjoyed seeing the two main characters interact with each other and how they worked things out between them and worked so well within the Shadow Ops team! It was great seeing all the others involved in this case. Hopefully we will get a reason as to who Hanadarko's friend, Soj, is and how they met??? Thank you again, Heather Slade for such a great series. One I am positive I will read again not too far into the future!!
Powerful and masterfully crafted! Heather Slade has been gifted with pen and paper, and the highly anticipated Mayhem will have you spinning trying to dissect the clues right beside him and Grace. The first four books of the K19 Shadow Ops have had us speeding to the discovery of Thanatos with clues, suspects and victims piling at an alarming rate. Leading us to the fifth installment of the series that will keep you on your toes as you make guesses and try to solve the mystery. My heart broke during a few scenes so be warned that tissues may be needed. Emmett aka Mayhem will definitely find his way to your book boyfriend status, and Grace is a badass. Their banter and ability to piece together a profile is exquisite. Action packed thriller with HEA that you won’t want to put down. Cannot wait for the new set by Heather Slade with the new team kicking off with Ares.
Wow! A wonderful fast paced page turning read. Mayhem and Grace’s story is full of twist and turns as they work together ,after a terrible breakup, to find a horrible serial killer. Putting their differences aside they compile a profile and figure out who the killer is. As they do this they both realize the passion for each other is still there. It’s a great read how they figure themselves and their relationship out!
I knew I was going to love Mayhem when we first met him in Diesel's book, and oh boy was I right! Mayhem is the perfect blend of growly gentleman and seasoned investigator. This isn't your typical grumpy/sunshine pairing, either, as Grace is just as prickly and bossy as he is. She's a true spitfire, a gal who knows her worth and isn't going to be pushed around by anyone, least of all the guy who ruined her life several years before.
But Mayhem, and the entire Shadow Op Team, is in a bind and they need Grace's exemplary profiling skills. For the victims, Grace agrees to work the case and the truth of her history with Mayhem comes out over their time spent working together. I love the way the author showed us just how in tune with each other these two are, and how inevitable their reunion would be.
It all leads to a stunning conclusion for the ongoing serial killer case, and it was a nail-biter right to the end! It takes everyone pulling together, combining all their skills, to finally bring an end to the killer's reign of terror, and it was so rewarding to see the whole team working together like that.
I love that we get the whole story of Mayhem's background that was only hinted at in the earlier book, which then cleared the way for a resoundingly joyous HEA and the start of a new adventure for Grace and Mayhem.
If you've been reading all along, you can't miss this final installment. If you haven't started yet, now's the time to binge all five books and be swept away by the romances, the suspense, and the adventures in store. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Too much about serial killers, & their minds, not enough about anything else.
Well, I finished it. I think that’s all I can say on the positive side. On the negative; I really hate murder mysteries, if I’d known it was that I wouldn’t have read it. They delve deep into the mindset of a serial killer and it’s disturbing. There’s virtually no romance until the end, then it’s really rushed. Mayhem talks really weirdly, because he’s English! This author really can’t write about English people. WE DON’T TALK LIKE THAT!! This is an example: "How very much I want to be in your life again. A regular part of your life. I suppose I should consider you may already have a romantic partner, as much as I hope you do not.” Who talks like that????
As the serial killer continues the team desperately need help. Mayhem was romantically involved with Grace, who was the best FBI profiler until he destroyed her. As they work the case together they become closer, and fall in love. I really can’t understand how she could forgive him. He basically blamed the deaths of two people on her, because she wanted to know what the big secret was between Mayhem and Bryar. When the secret is told it’s a massive letdown. Anyway, they work together to profile the killer and catch him. It’s really obvious from book one who the killer is, I’m not sure why it took so long to profile him.
I didn’t enjoy this book. I don’t understand the high ratings for it. It didn’t answer any of the main questions like; why was all the victims 24 years old? Why was it not opened as a serial killer case before? Who were all the other murderers? If Mayhem was madly in love with Grace previously, why couldn’t he have told her the big secret? Why destroy her and her career? There are many more questions, but I won’t bore you anymore.
This is the fifth and final book of the K19 Shadow Operations Team 1 Series. There will be a Team 2, as you meet the leader of that team in this book. All 5 are a standalone novel, as you learn what you need in each other. They can be read out of order, which I did, as I received Wasp as an ARC first and then bought the first two of the series. However, I highly suggest you hold off on Mayhem until you've read the first 4 books. This one ties the whole investigation together and reveals the Master Mind behind the serial killings, that appear to go back 50 years. I will say I had an idea as to who was responsible when I read Wasp, and I was correct, but I'm not putting that spoiler out there.
K19 agent Emmett Gable Code Name Mayhem, has a past with Grace "Hanadarko" a former FBI profiler. She gave up the job when she couldn't solve a case a few years back. There's some mud in their water that also involves Bryar from book 2, Diesel, as her family and Mayhem's family were friendly. That is what separated these two. Having exhausted all other options, Mayhem goes to Texas with Cowboy and his wife Winslow in hopes of drawing Grace out of retirement to help them. It's not an easy road for them as there are a lot of old hurts. K19 also brings in another profiler, Ares to help them. Together they make a great trio and track down the master mind behind the killings. I recieved this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review
Okay, maybe two. SUNY Adirondack (formerly called ACC or Adirondack Community College) is in Queensbury. Not Lake George. In fact, many of the tourist attractions visitors often attribute to Lake George are actually in Queensbury. This includes Six Flags Great Escape and the Outlets. The border for the village of Lake George isn't for about another mile or two past there on Route 9, and closer to where the now defunct amusement park Magic Forest was. Also, it is indeed Lake Pleasant and not Pleasant Lake. In fact I still have school pictures that say the school I attended while residing in Speculator was called Lake Pleasant Central. Once children were older they were bussed to Indian Lake.
But....holy cow, this was quite the series. I wasn't expecting to fall down this rabbit hole but once I started reading, I just couldn't stop and ended up binging all 5 books in 3 evenings. The mystery within a mystery concerning Mayhem and Briar's families was absolutely heartbreaking. Mayhem was a perfect match for the tough as nails grace as the team worked to find the answers to who the ringleader of the Adirondack serial killings is and how they've managed to escape prosecution for decades.
Looking forward to exploring more work by this author.
This was my first Heather Slade book. I listened to the audiobook. The FMC narrator reminded me of Kyra Sedgwick in The Closer. The MMC being British threw me off for some reason.
This one landed somewhere between 3 stars and 4 stars for me, probably partly my own fault as explained below.
I will admit I messed up - while this is technically a standalone, it was the last book in an interconnected series that has one big plot that ties them together chronologically. I’m not sure what made me choose this book to start exploring her work other than perhaps it was her highest rated on Amazon.
I also feel like the crime part would have been easier for me to follow had I read it instead of listened since there were a lot of names and dates at one point. I probably would have had a greater appreciation for the overarching Criminal Minds-like plot had I started at the beginning of this series. Then again, I could see how I would have been disappointed had I read the whole series to have this be the anticlimactic conclusion of the overarching plot. So in that regard, I might have actually saved myself time.
This was a second chance slooooooooooooow burn. Spicy time didn’t even start until 75% in. For people who prefer a lot of plot and a little spice, you might like this book. I needed more spice than that. It also makes me curious if I missed this couple’s history as side characters in the previous books of the series or if all the backstory we got was what was shared in this specific book. If the latter is the case, then it wasn’t enough for me.
The final book in K19 Shadow Operations Team One. For months we’ve been wading through the people involved in what appears to now be a history of serial killings for iced 50 years. Mayhem also known as Emmett Gable will need to team up with Grace Hanadarko in order to find out who is behind all this. Of course Mayhem and Grace do have a history which is a major obstacle in getting Grace to agree. Heather has included many of our other friends from the earlier Team One as being part of the task force trying to figure all of this out. We also will meet Ares and Buster as part of a new team but are of great help I. This book. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat trying to 1) who is the villain 2) why did they do what they did 3) what is going to happen to everyone who has been involved. Heather has created for us a romance and mystery that will have you up till the wee hours trying to finish to find out WHO DONE IT. I was given an ARC copy for an honest review of this book.
The ongoing serial killer investigation is complex, intriguing and drama filled. Heather Slade does an masterful job teasing with clues, trickling out answers and leaving you with more questions. The closer she takes you to the outcome the more compelling and horrifying the crimes become. And, just for good measure she throws in a couple of curveballs. I also really liked with learning so much about the science of profiling. It was fascinating.
Mayhem and Hanadarko that was good until it wasn't. A failed assignment causes harsh words to be spewed and accusations made causing a canyon sized rift between them. It's so bad she leaves the FBI for good. Now he needs her, the team needs her and the victims need her. There's no one better at profiling than Darko. She along with Mayhem and Ares puzzle their way through the mountains of information to finally identify they suspect. You'll be greatly surprised I think. But along the way the love that these two had never really went away and it's time to tell all then put the past behind them so they can be the duo they're destined to be.
his is the last in the K19 Shadow Ops Team One series. Each book has a very tough storyline trying to catch a serial killer or killers.
Grace aka Hanadarko and Emmett aka Mayhem have quite the past together until a misunderstanding broke them apart.
A few years later K19 Shadow Ops enlists Grace to help with a profile of the serial killer or killers they are trying to stop. The only obsticle is Mayhem. Grace is none to happy to see the team show up at her home as she greets them with a shotgun. Then she sees Mayhem and it takes a bit of time to get her on board to help with the profiling aspect. They must put their differences aside and work to figure out patterns, etc. of all the women that have been brutely murdered and find the killer or killers before more women are killed.
This story is full of action, with twists and turns throughout.
I highly recommend this book; you may want to start at the beginning of the series to get the most out of it.
WOW, what a great ending. This is the final book in the K19 Shadow Operations Team One Series. We will finally know who the serial killer is. “Come hell or high water, I’m going to take down this serial killer before it’s too late.”
Emmett aka Mayhem works for K19. They've been tasked to find a serial killer. “It took almost a month, but Decker had finally located the profiler I believed would help us find the man the media now referred to as the Adirondack Killer.” The only problem was, I had broken her heart a few years ago and didn't know if she would help us.
Grace aka Hanadarko was a retired FBI profiler. She has been living in seclusion ever since. So how in the hell had he found me and why was he here? “You have exactly ten seconds to get off my property, Emmett Gable.” Then the female spoke. “Hi, I’m Winslow Cassidy and we need your help. I was abducted by a serial killer, but I escaped.” If we don’t stop this man, he will kill again.
Finally, they've tracked down Hanadarko akd Grace Hunter. They've also got a pretty good idea she won't want to talk to Mayhem. With Steel, Cowboy and Winslow, Mayhem is hoping to convince Grace to come out of retirement to help them solve this case. The bodies keep piling up, and they really need to solve this sooner rather than later.
There's a lot of animosity between Grace and Mayhem and we will find out all about it in this book. For right now, they need to go over the investigation to date and start the profile. Of course, there's a bit more to resolve first.
As they go over everything, I start to wonder about the case myself. Have I guessed correctly or am I going to be surprised.
Okay I was surprised. There's so much that gets resolved in this book and I truly loved the way everything comes together.
Intrigue and suspense abound, and there is also action, sizzle and romance that rounds the series out.
This is a series that has been racing towards a stunning conclusion and once again we have a on stop ride that totally draws you in but at the same time there are some hugely emoitinal parts
Emmett “Mayhem” Gable and Grace “Hanadarko” Hunter had a breakup that just about destroyed them both and have had nothing to do with one another since But now Mayhem is working on the Thanatos serial killer case for K19 shadow op team and he needs the best profiler in the game if he is to solve it. That profiler is Grace if he can just get her to come out of retirement something that it will be hard to convince her to do as that dark world has just about broken her. Once they are working together they soon realise that the attraction and passion is still there between them . Will they survive this latest case and if they do can they have a future together You will have to read to see
The mystery is finally solved! I loved every minute of it!
Mayhem is working with K19 Shadow Operations. Grace (Hanadarko) is a former FBI Agent who thinks she failed her last mission, and quit. Mayhem also broke her heart. They were working on a mission together three years ago. K19 wants her as a profiler in a serial killer case they have been working on. It was very informative to read how a profiler works. Mayhem and Grace work very well together. The intense feelings between them are high. Can they ever work out their differences? This is an emotional story in more ways than one. It’s a page-turner, for sure. It’s a wonderful series that can be binge read. I am looking forward to the Team Two series.
Code Name: Mayhem is book 5 in the K19 Shadow Operations, Team One by Heather Slade and the final book in this series.
Emmett “Mayhem” and Grace “Hanadarko” both profilers worked a case years ago together until Mayhem turned the tables and destroyed Grace who then retired. Now years later K19 needs Grace’s help profiling a new case…can Mayhem get Hanadarko to join forces again? Only time will tell…
Suspense, friendships, anger, passion, fast paced, twists, turns but can these to forgive what broke them apart years ago and find what has been missing…their hearts and love for each other…
What a great read and can’t wait for the next series about Team Two!!
The K19 Team has been dealing with the serial killer for multiple books now. They need expert help in profiling and finally stopping him. Mayhem used to profile with Grace Hunter, but after their last case she left Mayhem, left profiling, lives in a remote area now and greets visitors with a loaded shotgun.
There is a lot of backstory to reveal here - what happened on a personal and professional level previously. Meanwhile they begin to close in on the killer, so they can finally put a stop to 50 years of killing.
Phenomenal story, culmination of all the prior stories with all the team working to put an end to the killing. You won’t be able to put this one down!
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Grace and Mayhem were a couple and partners as profilers in a serial killer case, but Mayhem was trying to keep a secret from her and she kept digging. He then said some horrible unforgettable words to her. Three years later Mayhem and the team are trying to catch another serial killer (see previous books in this series) and so he suggests contacting Grace. She meets him with a shotgun! There are a series of hints as to who the killer is but I didn't work it out until nearly the end. Mayhem and Grace still have feelings for each other but need to work the case first. This was a great series from Heather, with believable characters. The suspense kept us reading to the end.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emmett and Grace have a history. They loved one another once, but now, she is pointing her gun at him. Could they find a killer together? She is one of the best profilers out there, but working with Emmett might be a deal killer. Would he convince her to help? Someone keeps on killing, and she might be their best bet to find this serial killer. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. The suspense is gripping, and the romance is steamy. What ripped Grace and Emmett apart, and would they give themselves that second chance they desperately need? This is the suspenseful conclusion to a series that you will want to start from the beginning. I enjoyed this book and the entire series and would recommend it to those who like romantic suspense.
I warn you, make sure you have some free time on your hands because once you pick this book up, you're not going to want to put it down. This book quickly pulls you in and has you right on the edge with a smartly crafted blend of drama, emotion, suspense, danger, action, tension, twists and snappy banter. Grace and Mayhem made a compelling couple that was easy to root for, while their shared history and emotional baggage adds an extra layer of seasoning to everything. I'm sad to say goodbye to this series, but it went out on a very high note, and I'm left eager to see what comes next from this author. I am electing to post a candid review.
Finally, we find out who the serial killer is for this riveting series. Emmett and Grace, otherwise known as Mayhem and Hanadarko, circling around each other like crazed gladiators. You could feel the tension through the pages. Loads of history that they have to work through, but they need to put it aside to solve the case. I love this K19 and K19 Shadow family, their interactions are wonderful to read and awesome to keep getting glimpses of a few as the series continues. Always a pleasure to read this author's books, you get all the feels, a great story and awesome characters that you are sure to love.
Code Name Mayhem brings the case the K19 Shadow Operations Team One has been working on to a close, but not before there is more mystery, angst, moments of friendship and the re-kindling of the relationship between former lovers. As is fitting, we get a re-cap of all the events and re-unite with all the team members for the grand finale when the serial killer is brought to justice. We also get a peek into the case that will keep Team Two on its toes - and I can't wait! I highly recommend binge-reading these books. I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy by the author and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
This is another stellar addition to the K19 Shadow Op Team 1 and it rounds out this series. It is the story of Mayhem and Grace aka Hanadarko and brings to fruition the identity of the serial killer this Team has been chasing. While it is a stand-alone novel, I believe the reader will benefit from reading this series in order. The sheer volume of characters and their backgrounds may otherwise become confusing. Code Name: Mayhem is a well-written romantic suspense novel that kept this reader engaged until the final page. Ares was introduced in this book and will carry over into the new K19 Shadow Op Team 2. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next series by Heather Slade!
This is the final book in the K19 Shadow Operations series by Heather Slade and wow what a way to end an exceptional series. This is Emmet (Mayhem ) Gable and Grace “Hanadarko” story. She is one of the best profilers and must come out of retirement to help them find and catch a serial killer! These two have history, it ended badly, but can they work their way through all their angst? Because if they don’t, more innocent people will die. This story is so well written that you seem to become part of it! I highly recommend taking the time to read. I received this by from the author for my honest review!
In the final book we not only learn who has been behind all the killings but also learn of Mayhem and Graces past and what caused not only their painful split and her to turn away from profiling but also about his and Bryar's past. It feels like two steps forward and one step back even though they are getting closer to the killer and not only do we have the tensions of the little details coming together but also the tension and emotions surrounding Mayhem and Grace as those two are as stubborn as one another! This was the perfect ending to the series as not only is the killer caught, but also we get to see where everyone in SO team one are and it also has an opening to another!
Emmett/Mayhem and Grace. The big secret that Bryar and Mayhem had from their youth is fully known. Grace and Mayhem have to go back in time to fix their present, but it was great as we got to know the details and emotions. New characters such as Ares were introduced and series favorites had a role in solving the case as well. I was right in the killer, but also surprised by some of the details and hows of it! There is a pup in this story and I adored her personality. The overarching issue was resolved but now there is a new case, which means a new spin off series! Hoping for more great characters and HEA!
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Code Name :Mayhem . This story is sensational . Emmet (Mayhem ) Gable and K19 need Grace “Hanadarko” one of the best profilers to come out of retirement to help them find and catch a serial killer . It's easier said than done because Emmet and Grace have history and it ended badly . They must put their feelings aside to catch the killer before more innocent people die . This story is action packed , well written and all out fantastic . I highly recommend taking the time to read .
Heather has done it again. Absolutely a great book with all our favorite characters from K19. What a way to end the series with the culmination of finding out who ... Is the Adirondack Killer known as Thanatos. You learn so much more about Mayhem and Grace's story that you can't help but root for them to make it. Mayhem shows a side of himself with his love for Grace and how he gave up his love for loyalty. This story has serial killers, friendship, love, suspense and much more for a great read.
