One Man Rush is book one in the Double Overtime series by Joanne Rock. I won this book in a package from a give-a-way.
Marissa Collins is a matchmaker. She loves finding a client’s perfect match, she’s good at it. In the past she has been happy with making enough of a living to get by for herself but it is no longer enough. Her mother is suffering from a traumatic brain injury and she needs a new experimental drug. Somehow Marissa has to find a way to earn the money. Her newest client’s rich father has hired her to arrange a match between his daughter, Stacy and the sexy hockey player, Kyle Murphy. If she can get Kyle to sign on and agree to a date with Stacy, she might be able to afford the medicine for her mother.
Marissa is used to placing herself in a supportive role, hiding in the background. So she always dresses in such a way to not draw attention to herself, hair pulled up, tortoise shell glasses, even a fake wedding band. Anything to keep the attention on the client and not on her. But none of that worked when she came face to face with Kyle Murphy.
Kyle plays forward for the Phantoms. He takes his responsibility to his team very seriously. To make it in to the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup is his dream. He does not do relationships. They would get in the way of achieving his goal. He could not understand his reaction, though, to the woman in the glasses, looking all buttoned up. He just had to talk to her, to touch her. He was even less prepared when she tried to arrange a date for him with someone else!
“She was an original from head to toe, oddly unassuming and obviously comfortable on the sidelines, but that was exactly why he wanted to be with her. A woman like that would never date someone just for fame and fortune.”
Kyle and Marissa thought they were so different but were they really? They both took their responsibilities seriously, they both had similar values for their families. And the chemistry between them was crazy strong. These two together were sizzling. But neither of them have the room in their lives for another person.
“I only have one expectation. I expect I’m going to die any minute now if I don’t touch you more.”
What I loved about this book is that there were actually two situations going on. Not only Kyle and Marissa but we are also getting Marissa’s client, Stacy’s story. I loved this book. I could not turn the pages fast enough. Was it instalove? Quite possibly. But I couldn’t help but to fall in love with these characters. And the hotness factor was through the roof. This was my very first book by Joanne Rock but it most definitely won’t be my last.
“We have something special here. You know it. Let’s not over think it before it even gets off the ground, okay? Why not take a chance and see how amazing we can be together.”
I can't rate it since I wrote it, but I can tell you what I liked about it. Love writing sports heroes because I feel like I understand the mentality. Also enjoy writing the world that they move through. If you liked this one, the follow up is HER MAN ADVANTAGE. Both books are part of the longer "Murphy Men" series which includes MAKING A SPLASH, RIDING THE STORM and FULL SURRNDER (that last one will be out in September 2012).
For fans of Rachel Gibson's Seattle Chinook's Hockey Series, you will LOVE One Man Rush by Joanne Rock. Kyle and Marissa reminded me a lot of Luc and Jane, who are my favorite Hero and Heroine of the series.
Marissa Collins needs to get her matchmaking business off the ground, if she wants to keep the home that might help with her mother's rehabilitation after an accident that caused her serious brain damage. She needs to make a match between Kyle Murphy, the best shot on the Philadelphia Phantoms, and rich, socialite, Stacy Goodwell. Unfortunately for Marissa, the moment she meets Kyle Murphy the last thing she is thinking about is matching him with someone else.
Kyle Murphy has always had one rule, No Women In Playoff Season, but for some reason, Marissa Collins has his head in the clouds and not focused on the game he needs to be playing. What can he do but make an exception with this woman that he can't stop thinking about. He just has to convince her that being with him is the right thing for her also, even if it means having to give up the biggest MATCH of her career.
I love watching a big, strong Hockey Player brought to his knees, which is one of the best things about this quick, fun read, and the small, secondary romance between an unlikely pair.
The chemistry between Marissa and Kyle was undeniable and I think Joanne did an amazing job with showing the progression of their feelings for each other, without making if feel rushed.
And for me to compare ANY book to my absolute FAVORITE, that is a high compliment in itself. I know you will enjoy this read if you like a smoking, hot sports romance, and If you enjoy this book, you will have to put Her Man Advantage on you TBR List, which is Joanne's Upcoming release staring Axel, the sexy adopted brother of Kyle Murphy which you will meet and fall in love with in One Man Rush.
Fun, light contemporary about a professional matchmaker who meets her match -- a professional hockey player!
Joanne Rock has a special talent for creating gentle, vulnerable heroines. I really warmed to Marissa right away, like she was an old friend. I admired how much she cared about her ailing mother -- and even more how she was ready to step out from behind her mother's shadow at the end.
I loved Kyle too, though as a non-sports person who finds hockey boring I really couldn't get too excited about his profession. I wish he could have been a bit more naughty in some of the bedroom scenes, but if sweet and gentle is what you like this hero really brings it in spades!
The most amazing part of this book was the secondary romance between boy computer genius Isaac (Mark Zuckerberg, anyone?) and ditzy heiress Stacey. (Paris Hilton, perhaps?) These two had so much chemistry and Stacey in particular brought so much humor to the book. I wish they could have had a book of their own!
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sports heroes, matchmakers, light contemporary romance, and hot but very gentle and caring sex.
PS Special extra points for all the fun references to cool TV shows like MAD MEN and timeless Hollywood legends like Katherine Hepburn!
This book was okay to pass the time, but I couldn't connect with the characters. I was also surprised to see two stories in one, and that confused me a bit since the synopsis doesn't mention anything about it (the secondary couple being a bit more relevant for me than the main one). The story in general has its charm, and although I don't think it was for me, I hope it finds its audience.

Two Happily Ever Afters for the price of one. This book had some angst, a little drama, and a whole lot of cuteness. Marissa’s working hard to find Stacy’s perfect match. But when she reacts so strongly to the hockey hottie, she’s going to have a devil of a time matching him with the heiress. Stacy’s crashing headfirst into her own destiny, so she may not need that much help from the matchmaker after all. These two couples were pretty adorable, and I really liked the way they worked together to actually make things work for both relationships. I would have loved to have had a bit more time to see each pair flourish, but I can’t wait to see the next Murphy brother up to find his Forever. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book through Booksprout.
Rather short book with two romances in parallel. That does not give much space for strong development. The answer to that is a story with a shortened timeline - I guess no more than 3 weeks take place between beginning and end. I liked the characters, especially the lead couples who seemed very down-to-earth. I would have liked seeing more of them, interacting with their family especially. Both first and secondary stories would have been worth of a full-length story. But the story rather worked as it was. This story seemed kind of in between Deirdre Martin's NY Blades and Rachel Gibson's Chinooks, in shorter.
This story was a re-read for me and then I discovered that I had not left a review for it. . . . . I remember how much fun I had reading this story. Marissa Carver is a professional match maker and her client wants Kyle Murphy. So what if her client is not right for Kyle. . . add the attraction between Kyle and Marissa? You can never go wrong with any of Joanne Rock's Stories. Highly Recommended.
A fun and lighthearted story. Marissa and Kylie will suck you in from the start. I loved their connection and flying sparks. It’s entertaining and full of action.
Heartwarming and emotionally thrilling, action packed journey filled with engaging charters, intriguing story line, witty banter, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Edge of your seat, highly entertaining and heart racing adventure.
Marissa Collins is a matchmaker, and she has set her sights on Philadelphia's most wanted eligible bachelor - hockey star Kyle Murphy. Not for herself, of course - for her client. But Kyle doesn't want to be matched. Not unless it's with Marissa. He was taken with her from the moment they met. Now all he has to do is convince her to take a chance on him. Not having the best track record in her personal life, Marissa is closed off to finding love, especially with someone that a client is interested in. She's also been the primary caregiver for her mother, who has a traumatic brain injury, so she doesn't really have time for a relationship. But even though she really needs the money to give her mother the care she needs, Marissa turns down the job and walks away from Kyle. That doesn't stop Kyle from pursuing Marissa. In fact, just the opposite. But how would that work out? He's on the road so much, and she can't leave her mother. Can they be the match that neither of them was looking for? Or will they push each other away - afraid to envision a life that's so very different? Kyle and Marissa make a good couple, bringing out different qualities in each other. This was a fun read, and I'm looking forward to reading Axel's story next!.

This book is entertaining, with some surprising depth. Marissa is a matchmaker, who has been hired to get a date for one of her clients (the daughter of an arena magnate) with a particular hockey star. Marissa had previously helped manage her mother’s career as a pop star but became her mother’s primary caregiver after her mother was severely injured in a car accident. Kyle doesn’t ordinarily date or play around with women during the hockey season. When they meet, both characters are surprised when sparks fly between them. Marissa and Kyle find themselves adapting and having to change in order to have a relationship. Their romantic story has dual points of view, heat, character growth and a HEA. As a bonus, there’s also a secondary plot as Marissa’s client becomes independent from her father and meets her own Prince Charming. Romance lovers will enjoy this one! I received an advance copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. (Note for Goodreads: the advance copy did have some small errors; I might downgrade a star if they weren't corrected in the published version.)
This is book three in The Murphy Brother’s and it is Marissa’s and Kyle’s story. Kyle is a hockey star and not looking for a relationship until he meets Marissa and then all bets are off especially if he can convince the matchmaker that she has met her final match. Marissa is always busy because she is trying to take care of her mother and brother’s business while also being a matchmaker so when her client had set her sights on hockey star Kyle Marissa is determined to help her only sometimes things don’t always go as planned especially as Marissa doesn’t need a relationship with her life being so busy but sometimes love happens when you least expect it and you just have to go along for the ride hoping that you eventually get your own happy ending. I really loved this book and even though Kyle and Marissa’s relationship had many ups and downs and wasn’t plain sailing I am so glad that they got their happiness in the end and I also enjoyed the secondary characters that was mixed in this story. I am really loving this book and series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
This story takes instant attraction and quick-burn romance and grows it into love. Overall I liked the story. I have only read book two and this one from the series, and I much prefer this book to book two. I found the story more engaging and the intimacy more organic. I really liked the secondary romance in this book too. It was fun. The hockey was also a fun component, but it was kept relatively brief. Marissa, a professional matchmaker, needed the payout for connecting her client Stacy with her aspirational choice, hockey star Kyle. The situation blew up on Marissa when she met Kyle and attraction flamed between them. It got complicated from there. The story includes elements of traumatic brain injury and caregiving for a parent. This book is part of a series about the Murphy brothers, but it reads as a standalone. This is a detailed open door romance with multiple scenes, innuendo, and occasional mild to moderate harsh language.

I wanted to like this book. I really really did. It had all the things you want in a hockey romance. But sadly I just couldn't connect with the characters. It all felt rushed and there wasn't time for character development. I think this would have been a better book if it had been made slightly longer to allow for us to actually get that much needed development. Without trying to spoil anything I felt Stacy had the most potential to be her own star. I liked her clumsiness but Isaac.... why was he there? To think some pretty chick couldn't have been just going about her day being flighty, no shes a spy? Now I will add the caveat that I didn't read the first 2 books. So maybe had I read those I might have had some of that development? But this claimed to be a standalone so it shouldn't affect the story if that was the case.

Kyle and Marissa's story is the third book in the Murphy Brothers series, while it is connected to the other books you can enjoy it as a standalone. Kyle is a professional hockey player and has a rule about dating/hookups during the season especially since the team is heading into the playoffs. Hookups are getting old for him but he hasn't found anyone special that wants more the fame and money of his career. Marissa is a professional matchmaker and her client has her heart set on a match with Kyle. Marissa has lived in the shadow of her celebrity mom her whole life and now she's her fulltime caregiver. Kyle's willing to break his no dating rule for Marissa he believes there's something special about her but she's scared of taking a chance. Steamy hockey romance. Looking forward to reading Axel's story.

One Man Rush by Joanne Rock This Murphy family saga is about Kyle. Marissa Collins runs her own matchmaking service and she runs into single eligible bachelors all the time, she's always in the market but has her eyes on one certain man. Kyle Murphy is a hockey superstar and single. After he's learned who her mother is and that above all else she is taking care of all her needs he gives her a choice that will alleviate her problems and help out his new problem at the same time. Hot steamy sex and very difficult decisions to make leave you feeling satisfied.. Also included is the girlfriend she attempted to matchmake and she's left her family home to get on with her life. She also has major decisions to make..
It was a short book. That is where the negative things end. I really liked the book and the writing style is very comfortable.
Some sentences in the book really struck home and made me emotional. Not necessarily for the characters, but because they could relate to your own life and made you think.
I like sports romance but the plus of this book is that it really shows how professional sports have an impact on 'normal' life. This is not something that you see in every sports romance or is otherwise easily glossed over.
I also loved that all the characters in the book were strong and trying to find their own way in life. With or without help, because nobody can always do everything by themselves.
All in all a lovely book that is over way too soon.
Marisa is a matchmaker for a girl, whose father wants her to marry money. Kyle Murphey is a star hockey player, whose family is wealthy and he is the perfect match for her client, only this time the match is not made in heaven, as Kyle is attracted to Marisa and she has lusty feelings for him too. Can she make another match for her client's daughter, or would Marisa have to give up love, for her business and her family.
I loved this book. It had all the things I loved in a story, love, humour, and of course lots of spicy romance. Joanne Rock does an excellent job of bringing this story to a wonderful Happy Ever After despite the challenges for Marisa, so that all find find love and happiness.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Marissa and Kyle. Kyle is a hockey player and has his sight set on winning a Stanley Cup. Marissa is the daughter of Brandy Collins, singer extraordinaire. Unfortunately for Marissa Brandy was hurting an accident and is now taking care of her while keeping the bills paid. Marissa is hired by Stacy as a matchmaker to set up a date between her and Kyle. But when Marissa meets Kyle at the charity event, things get a little crazy. They have a connection that can't be denied. Follow them on their adventure as they navigate the hockey world, and the matchmakers out for a big payday. Even Stacy gets her happy.

Fall in love with an unlikely match between Kyle and Marissa! I love Marissa’s determination to secure a date for her client with Kyle, a hockey star at his teams’ meet and greet. But despite Kyle laying low behind the bar serving customers, Marissa easily picks him out and the attraction between the two is almost like a shot on goal for the win for Kyle or that is until he spies Marissa’s ring. To say the situation is confusing would be a misnomer as Kyle doesn’t date during the season and Marissa doesn’t date clients which she needs to make Kyle. How will the two work around their polar opposite goals? Will Marissa lose her rich client for a chance with Kyle? Will Kyle win the girl and the season playoffs? You have to read to find out!
Marissa has a lot at stake both personally when it comes to her family and professionally when it comes to her career as a matchmaker, and she needs to convince Kyle that she knows the perfect woman for him. The only problem with the plan is that he believes the perfect woman for him is her.
Kyle is a professional hockey player who is dedicated to his career and wasn’t looking for a relationship until he met Marissa. The feelings he has for her are different than anything he has ever felt before but convincing her to give him a chance may be the biggest challenge of all.
Marissa and Kyle have some challenges to overcome both when it comes to the challenges and family but some things are worth fighting for.
Received as an ARC in return for my honest review.
🏒 Matchmaker x Hockey player 🏒 Opposites attract 🏒 Brotherhood
He wants her, she’s trying to set him up with one of her clients who has specifically asked for him. Let the drama ensue….
The writing style was lovely with good character development and an overarching story line where 2 sets of people get their HEA. A lovely quick spicy read.
I was worried I may not follow as it’s the 3rd book in a series but that wasn’t the case thankfully. I’ll definitely be going back to read the others and now can’t wait for the next book to come out, look out Axel!
Marisa needs her business to go well in order to be able to help take care of her mother. She has taken on high roller clients and will work hard to deliver the service that she can provide. Her client wants to meet Kyle, the star hockey player. What Marisa did not count on was that as she was trying to help her client Stacy make a match, she met her own match. The zing between her and Kyle was instant and it did not go away. But will Marisa have to choose love or business? This was a really fun story peopled with characters that I really enjoyed spending time reading about.

I just finished reading this book. You guys really need to check it out.I loved how Kyle and Marissa developed as the story progressed. They were the perfect foil for each, which is quite evident in the final scene of the book. Both are dedicated to family, working hard to achieve success while being somewhat vulnerable. I loved watching how each new discovery about themselves and each other unveiled their true personalities. There were many "aaah" moments for me. It was just what I needed after the high I pact stories I've been reading. A great, sweet, quick and easy read.
Just ok. There were actually 2 romances in this book. Unfortunately, I was much more interested in the secondary one between Stacey and Isaac than I was in the primary one between Kyle and Marissa. Kyle and Marissa's relationship felt superficial. When they did talk about feelings the discussion itself seemed unemotional. It was like they weren't revealing their deep dark selves. In any other book I might have labeled it an unreliable narrator because it seemed like they were lying to each other (or themselves).
Matched with the Player is a wonderful addition to this series by Joanne. I think this is my favorite to date, with wonderful characters and a good strong storyline. It's easy to read a little steamy in parts but it works well. Matched with the Player has been written well, and you are drawn in from the very first page. I do recommend this book to all, and I am looking forward to the next Murphy brother story.

Marissa loved her job as a matchmaker. So when she was given the job to put her friend Stacy and the handsome hockey player, Kyle together she failed.
When Kyle seen Marissa he knew he need to be with her. But he had his rules and he didn't break them until she gave into his charm and he couldn't function without her.
Only Marissa was one to protect herself and didn't know how to be with Kyle until she finally realized she loved him and knew she wouldn't be happy if she wasn't by his side.
