I’m a monster DNA experiment and my beasts salivate at the thought of her.
In my human life, I was a hardworking blue-collar man.
And now I’m a monster.
My anger is tenfold in this form.
Yet I find a part of me that’s fragile and needs protecting.
Every day, I turn to stone on her property to watch over her.
At night, I let myself into her home.
I find it impossible to stop myself.
These things inside me roar knowing this woman is mine.
I won’t let her be taken from me.
Not when she’s all I have left.
I watch. I stalk.
I feast. I prey.
I devour her when she has no idea.
The invisibility of my new body works to my advantage.
Until I see her scars.
The love I pour into her is nothing compared to the hate I’ll give to him.
She. Is. Mine.
And all my beasts agree.

Wow! Holy f*ck! Grab your sopping panties and hide them before your husband gets home...

I was not sure how any author, alive or dead, would be able to top the feral insanity that was Creed from Honeysuckles. But as my jaw is currently on the floor and my room is currently as stinky with arousal as Demi's perfume, I apparently have been proven wrong. I am sending January my therapy bill for sobbing to my doctor about how no human man will ever measure up to gargoyle alligator d*ck. SOB!

This book was phenomenal and very personal. It hurt at times in its beauty. As an SA survivor, although not a DV one, there was a rawness to Mickey's story. I love her so much. This book had slightly sweeter moments between Rhett and Mickey than its predecessor. It was also even more unhinged at times (which I love cause who doesn't want to cackle between periods of charging your vibe?)

There is something freeing in embracing the insanity that is a dark stalker monster romance. I enjoyed every page and am still waiting for AHEM some SPECIFIC characters stories. I know you just finished a phenomenal book boo, but if you could crank those out, much love ;)

I don't know what to do with myself, or my hands, right now, so I'm going back to do a re-read of Honeysuckles. Come to the dark side y'all. We have period shots and candy.

Ghost lover!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️😆😎😚🥰

The heroine: Mickey - she fell for Tyler, the first guy that showed her some attention, he seemed like a true gentleman, a terrific guy, but since then he had turned truly evil. He threatened to kill her siblings if she tried to escape him again and he calls her ‘Stupid Girl’. He often keeps her chained in a dark closet when he is unhappy with her, without even a pot to piss in. He has hooks all over the house for when he moves her from the closet, he can keep her chained up. When she finally escapes him, her brother and sister, Milo and Minnie, run away with her and they all get jobs at Demi’s Diner.

The Hero: Rhett - he owned Royals Garage. It was his dream, and he had owned it for ten years. He did very well in the beginning, but the economy went downhill, and it had a devastating effect on his business. Now all he had were past due bills and he knew it was time to give up on his dream. He has drained all of his accounts trying to keep the business afloat and has nothing to fall back on. When a man comes into the garage and offers him $100,000.00 to be in a drug trial. Though there is no promise it would work or that he would even survive. When Rhett turns the man down, he is drugged and kidnapped.

The Story: Like Creed Blackstone in Honeysuckles, book 1 of this series, Rhett is turned into a monster that has DNA from a bunch of different creatures, some paranormal, some not. He is gargoyle, crocodile, vampire, jellyfish and ghost. Rhett escapes from Shallow Cove Institute separately from Creed, though they end up in the same town, not far from the institute. One day, Rhett was coming out of a lake in his crocodile form when he smelled her, Mickey had just purchased the fixer upper house that overlooked the lake.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, and I liked this one even more. There were some things Rhett did that I didn’t think needed to be included, but whatever (he is part vampire, who loves his mates' blood, and he loves going down on her. I will leave it at that). However, I did like the story, I really love the whole genetically engineered paranormal trope, and I loved that Rhett had some ghost in him, that was an aspect that we don’t see enough in paranormal romance. I wasn’t too fond of his frank n’ beans which were basically the jellyfish part of him. Just a bit too out there for my tastes. I didn’t like Creed’s private parts in the first book either, they were derived from Kraken DNA. But it did add some fun to the book.

MASTERPIECE OF MADNESS

I also want to take a moment to tell everyone as I’ve told January privately, how healing this book was for me. TW for physical, and mental abuse. Besides this book like the first one, being so unhinged in the best of ways, it was also therapeutic. The FMC Mickey starts off in an abusive relationship and escapes. I won’t go into details but everything she thought, felt and did was incredible. As someone whose ex was an abusive POS, I lived vicariously through this fictional character and I’m so happy she got her happy ending. Just like I did ❤️

Monster romance between Mickey and Rhett both have been victims of cruelty and abuse. Despite the content this is a fairly fluffy, borderline cutesy that some might find funny with smidge bits of violence and sexytimes. There’s very little conflict, and no real drama at all.

The blurb doesn’t give much away, so this with have a general plot outline, so please STOP if you want ZERO details.

The book opens with Mickey escaping an abusive captive situation with an ex-boyfriend. She has been horrifically abused (almost all is off page) and is left with severe trauma. Meanwhile, Rhett is also suffering his own hell, he’s also been kidnapped tortured, raped, and spliced with animal and paranormal DNA. (again, mostly off-page)

The majority of the plot is them slowly getting together. It takes time, it’s boring at times, and there’re a lot of secondary characters. There wasn’t much explanation as to who or why Rhett was kidnapped and experimented on, or what was the purpose of having him raped, but this is the second book, so maybe that was discussed earlier. We’re only told they weren’t happy that he could change shape, so they planned to terminate him. 🤷‍♀️

Bottom Line- Kinda cute, but not really my thing. I really require more action or drama nowadays, but it was solidly written, and alright for the genre of fluffy monster romance.

“Snapdragons. My favorite flower, in part because when they die, they look like skulls. They are bright and beautiful but slowly shrivel to shells of themselves in the wrong conditions.”

It’s not real monster love if hero doesn’t fuck you while you’re sleep walking, forcin’ customers to leave you tips, leave his electrified cum in your body wash & pads, suck & drink your blood off on tampon, take out your birth control, and steals a brand new car to replaced heroine’s raggedy lookin’ car. Where’s my own stalker monster at y’all? 🙂‍↔️😭

If you guys loved honeysuckle (youll see demi x creed in here also), you’ll enjoy my monster rhett who’s part crocodile, 🐊 gargoyle, vampire, 🩸 ghost, 👻 and jellyfish (cock). 🪼 🍆

I throughly enjoyed this and can’t wait for more monster stalker series!

“I fed her my blood. I knotted her. I bred her. I’ve marked her. We are mated and nothing in this world can ever change that. And if we can only have our life when she is sleepwalking, then I will gladly live my nights filling her pretty cunt under the stars.”

Thank you so much for the lovely arc. I’m leaving my thoughts & feelings voluntarily. ✨

4.5 - 4.75 stars!

Snapdragons was unhinged. UNHINGED. But I was totally and completely mesmerized by Rhett and Mickey. If you’ve read the first book in this series then you know the heroes are taken, experimented on and changed on a cellular level. Rhett is now a monster housing many different souls. He’s part vampire, crocodile, jellyfish, gargoyle and ghost. And if you’re wondering where the jellyfish piece comes in…you know *wink wink.* Despite this abrupt life changing event, he still thrives in ways he knows how and when he scents Mickey he knows she’s the one. The one he will claim forever in all the dirty and depraved ways his monsters demand.

“She’s mine. She needs to be claimed. She needs to understand that I’ll protect her in life, in death, and everything in between. Fear? I’ll consume it for her to sate my violence, so she never has to experience the bitterness. Nightmares? I’ll invade them and give her dreams that make her scream my name. Weakness? I’ll show her how strong she is while she has me on my back. She’ll see in time that I’m the best thing for her.”

A survivor of a horrific domestic violence situation, Mickey is trying to rebuild her life and emotional and mental health. When she starts hearing voices that sometimes scare her but mostly calm her, her wish for a monster love rather than a human love deepens. When her past comes back to haunt her in ways the other voice doesn’t, will she survive?

Rhett didn’t always make the right decisions regarding protecting Mickey but he also doesn’t live by society’s rules. He was obsessive and possessive and wanted to be Mickey’s rock. The steam in here was next level filthy. I’ll never think about a period without also thinking of what Rhett’s vampire side loved doing LOL. But while I was a little shocked, I was also intrigued because Rayne made it so intimate. Rhett was dominant and demanding and his stalker tendencies were not sane but it also worked for his character and I found myself endeared to him and his fear of rejection and his need for his mate.

Mickey? That woman has been through so much and come out at the other end with many scars. Physically and emotionally, she feels damaged and broken but is trying to rise about it and not allow fear to rule her life. I loved her personality and the way she fell for Rhett when she discovered his existence.

“I know what you are,” I repeat, sighing as the ache in my back disappears. “And I love you anyway.”

Listen, there’s a lot of triggers in here and while I wouldn’t classify this as dark, I would classify it as being troublesome to some readers. Me? I loved this…I may have even loved it more than the first book. A great plot, action and steam that will make you blush or have your husband asking why your face looks both pained and turned on. Can’t wait for what’s next and I hope Rayne continues this series

This is definitely going to be my favorite series of all time. You can’t help but love these DNA experiment monsters. No matter what they do, you end up loving them. I absolutely DEVOURED this book.

This book will take you through all the emotions. Sadness, happiness, anger; you’ll be laughing, you’ll be yelling, you’ll be crying, and you’ll be HOT! Hot because the spice is delectable, but do we expect any less from January? The answer is no.

Rhett is THAT monster. I absolutely love him. While much different from Creed, I love their differences in personalities. Mickey is amazing, I loved her journey and her will. She is an inspiration and I loved seeing her progress to become who she is.

I loved all the little sprinkles of other characters whom I already love. This is an interconnected standalone so some characters do pop up in other books of January’s, definitely should give her entire universe a read. It’s well worth and my favorite books for sure.

If you loved Honeysuckles or love Monster romance, you’ll love this book. Not to mention, Rhett’s a gargoyle, vampire, crocodile, ghost, with jellyfish…… parts! 10 out of 10 would recommend!!! Enjoy!

Rhett was basically a clone of Creed from the previous book. I like stalking and dark romance, I just think the instalove aspect didn’t work great with Mickey’s history.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: noncon, rape, abuse, murder and attempted murder, violence, gore, involuntary medical experimentation, torture, stalking, voyeurism, birth control tampering, drowning, PTSD, panic attacks, night terrors, somnophilia, kidnapping, home invasion, captivity, hospitalization of side character, parent death (past), period blood consumption, putting cum in unsuspecting MCs body wash, poverty, bank robbery (off page), police

Loved it!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: monster, stalker
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm really loving this series! Super hot and dir-ty, lol. If monsters aren't you're jam, you probably not like this one too much. But if they are - it'll definitely check all the right boxes. Super fast paced and quick read. I'd love to see these written longer and deeper, but they're still great as a quick one. Loved the little twist - I didn't even see it coming! Can't wait for the next one. Loved seeing Demi, Creed, and Storm again. Totally cracking me up!

This is… just, no.

The main character and her sister are named Mickey and Minnie, so, there’s that. It’s giving ✨Disney adult✨

The author misses the use of contractions 90% of the time so the dialogue reads as if AI wrote it. So unnatural.

Monster smut? I mean… I guess, technically, it is. However… no. He’s actually a ghost/gargoyle/crocodile/vampire hybrid with a jellyfish(?) dick. I’m not making this up LMAO I wish I was.

Get amongst it if you have a day-old tampon sucking fetish I guess 💀

Spoilers ahead

I'm convinced this author adds stuff as she goes along, just tweaking the words to suit the circumstances.....this was an even crazier ride than book 1.....but in a good way, so much so I can't wait to see the levels of crazy in the other books in this series 😂

Book 2 we have Rhett, former down on his luck mechanic who like Creed was kidnapped and experimented on. He's a gargoyle, crocodile vampire mix with a jellyfish dick....complete with shocking tentacles (I cackled at this tbh). After months of physical and sexual abuse Rhett escapes the facility and scents his mate

Mickey has been in a horrifically abusive relationship until she's finally able to stab her abuser and escape with the help if her siblings. They flee and arrive to town and are hired to work at Demi's diner. Rhett keeps watch jcer his mate in his gargoyle form at her house and the two eventually fall in love.....until her ex finds her bringing danger to Rhett's mate.

******
One of the things, probably the only thing actually, that pissed me off was how stupid Mickey acted when it was clear her ex had found her.....just buried her head in the damn sand 🙄
Aside from that this was amusing and entertaining and at times truly grossed me out
Rhett drinking her period blood, sucking her tampon dry and all that kinda had me gagging but I rolled with it
Again there's lots of focus on sex....bad sex too so much so that the ending is rushed and the situation with the ex was just a footnote.
These books are in no way to be taken seriously, the things you'll read in here will have you going wtf 😂😂😂😂

No cheating
Rhett was experimented on, physically and sexually abused in the facility
Mickey was physically and sexually abused by her asshole husband but she got to keep his skull as a vase so justice was served 🤷🏿‍♀️

Content Warnings: This book contains Domestic violence (NOT MMC), stalking, dark themes, nonconsent, S/A, somnophilia, forced pregnancy, birth control tampering, blood sharing, mutilation, period play, sleepwalking, and murder.

Can't wait for the next crazy ass ride

THIS BOOK WAS SO AMAZING!!! Adding it to my must buy list! Honeysuckles was already on my pedestal, but Snapdragons knocked it out of the park! There are definitely triggers so beware.

Rhett was so sweet and caring toward his mate. I immediately fell for him.

"My Timid Little Bloom. Someone is here, but you do not need to be afraid of me. You only need to be afraid of how much I'm going to love you."

I especially loved how January is incorporating all of Shallow Cove together with characters from Eternally Damned showing up in this book!! Plus the Epilogue part with Mr. Pete! So hilarious!

Rhett & Mickey: Unhinged, Consuming, Sweet Stalker Love! 5 Stars!

Finally! Book Two of the Monster Stalker Series of Shallow Cove Dark Dimensions Series, SNAPDRAGONS is here! I am obsessed with HONEYSUCKLES, so you can understand my excitement about this release. The second Monster DNA Experiment lived up to everything I expected and more! January Rayne once again has proven what a talented writer she is! SNAPDRAGONS is amazing!

Our latest DNA experiment victim gone rogue is Rhett Royals, a down-on-his-luck mechanic who owns a small business drowning in debt. Rhett is hardworking and an all-around good person, so it is devastating that he became a victim of the evil scientists at the Shallow Cove Institute. As with Creed in HONEYSUCKLES, Rhett escapes. Which is perfect timing as Rhett has discovered he has a mate. So, in monster stalker fashion, Rhett begins his relentless pursuit of his chosen and will stop at nothing until he claims his “Beloved”, sealing their bond.

Meet Mickey: Rhett’s Beloved and domestic violence survivor. Mickey is trying to rebuild her life after escaping a traumatic relationship with her ex-boyfriend. With the help of her siblings, Mickey purchases an old house by a lake in need of restoration. She finally feels safe and at peace in her new surroundings. However, her peace of mind doesn’t only come from the tranquility of the lake. Strangely, it comes from the out-of-place, monstrous gargoyle statue taking up residence on her front lawn. As Rhett grows more obsessed and Mickey more drawn to the odd statue, she swears is alive, will an unknown from the past prevent Mickey from living long enough to find her ‘happily ever after’?

Author, January Rayne has once again managed to push all my emotional buttons in the book! While reading SNAPDRAGONS, I felt joy, anger, sadness, humor, and sympathy for both Rhett and Mickey, as both suffered tremendously before they found each other. January Rayne tackled the topic of domestic violence with sensitivity, thoughtfulness, and respect. She made Mickey an inspiration by showing her gain the strength and fortitude to move past her trauma to focus on her reintegration into society and in trusting others.

I loved Rhett from the very beginning and became choked up at the level of trauma he suffered, not only at the hands of the Institution, but from life in general. Many of us can relate to the trauma of going from success to failure through no fault of your own. In a twisted way, Rhett became Mickey’s anchor and lean-to for comfort in times of uncertainty. What stole my heart was the way Rhett unselfishly offered up himself as a tribute to Mickey for her to heal herself, giving her that soft place to land as she recovered and became a stronger person.

SNAPDRAGONS is a VERY spicy read. Therefore, you are advised to read the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book very carefully before diving in. Keep in mind, Rhett is a MONSTER and not a MAN. Monsters do monstrous things. So, remember this while reading and witnessing the lengths Rhett goes through to be with Mickey and how consumed he becomes with possessing her.

There were so many erotic scenes that made me question my own level of freakiness! No spoilers given, but that bathroom scene… Rhett, Rhett, RHETT!!! My Lordt… why does your actions have me questioning my own level of decency! Why are these violent delights of his so freaking sexy and hot?! You must read it for yourself. Because… yeah… I’ll need to unpack these new feelings and urges later. Thanks, January!

There were so many funny moments where I laughed out loud. It was so good to return to Shallow Cove and meet up with old friends! If you loved HONEYSUCKLES and are a huge Eternally Series fan, you’ll LOVE this book. Especially towards the end! (Still squealing off the awesomeness of those final chapters!)

If you weren’t particularly pleased with our last monster, Creed, I invite you to meet Rhett. He is such a different type of monster than Creed is. Whereas Creed was perfect for Demi, Rhett is just the right kind of monster for Mickey. January Rayne scored big with this one and I cannot wait to meet my next monster DNA experiment!

Happy reading!

January Rayne has done it again! I love that these standalones are in an interconnected universe that the author has created.
For one I love it because you get to see some of the characters that you absolutely fall in love with. Although I did enjoy this story, because I do love hurt/comfort, There was probably one aspect of this story that I could’ve really done without, but that is strictly a personal preference.

So this is a stalker paranormal romance. What is different about these stalkers, is that these are human men who were kidnapped and were DNA-experimented on to create a monster. So a lot of their desires and wants are from the DNA that’s in them and they’re trying to control. They simply can’t help what they want and need.

So I really loved the character names that the author gave to Mickey and her family. The FMC is named Mickey. Her sister is named Minnie and her brother is named Milo. Mickey is in a very abusive relationship. She has been through so much but finally gets back to her brother and sister. I do have to say, I love how the author writes these female, main characters and how much they overcome and become stronger than ever.

Let’s talk about Rhett’s DNA… he is part gargoyle, crocodile, vampire, jellyfish, and ghost. I have no words to tell you how hot and spicy the scenes were with his DNA. It was fire!!!!!!

So of course, I absolutely love the message in these books in these monster stalker romance books is that it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, It’s how you treat someone it’s how you protect someone it brings out the beauty in you.

As I stated, I love this universe and I will continue to read, and I do highly recommend you jumping in!!!!

As always, please check your trigger warnings!!!!

I'm not sure even where to begin. I thought Honeysuckles was amazing. She has gone above and so far beyond. I've only read it once but I'm deft going to be rereading this several times. I am an ARC reader but let's be honest I begged to be among the first to read this. First and foremost I would advise you to read the Eternally Rare series and than Honeysuckles. There's so many Easter eggs from other stories that it just a delight. There's even some Cameos but you'll just have to see foryourself now I do have to want y'all there triggers but at this point I'm immune. There's no mm but there's plenty of other dark twisty and delicious things. Really give those pearls a good clutch I have never found another book like this. He's a shifter but it's not your everyday shifter Think multiple personalities but add in shifters and bam. Oh no I'm not going to giving anything away it was well worth wait

Did i jump straight into book 2, yes i did.

Meet Rhett who part man, gargoyle, vampire, crocodile and jellyfish. As I've learned January's writing is not only brilliant but the story's are messed up, hot, steamy, erotic and you just keep reading with the need to know more.

I was gripped at one point and couldn't read the pages fast enough but again I am here for it all.

The prologue had me feeling so many ways and we haven’t even jumped into the world yet! Loved that we got to see the background on both MCs before the coupling -our pasts help shape our future.

The mental health rep in this book was extremely validating and it was much appreciated!

“I’m damaged. My mind, my body, my heart, and my soul. The cracks are so deep, they can’t be repaired, yet my will to live somehow finds a way to be stronger than all of it.”

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was privileged enough to receive the ARC for this book, which did not disappoint me. I suggest you read the first book in the series, ‘HONEYSUCKLES,’ to understand more about most of the characters in this book.

🖤The book is a super easy and fast read, so if you’re looking for a smut-filled palate cleanser and love supernatural/monster romances, this series/book is for you!

🖤 Mickey’s story is very bittersweet because of the DA/DV she lived through with her bf, but in the end, she comes out on top with the beast of her dreams and new friends.

🖤 Rhett’s love and obsession with Mickey completely differed from her ex’s. Her ex destroyed her with DV and mental games. Rhett played games with Mickey, but there was a difference. He would only hurt her for pleasure and bliss, whereas Ty hurt her for his own amusement.

*The only reason I didn’t give this book a 5-star rating was that a 5-star book is one I can recommend to anyone and everyone, and although I love this book, I can not simply recommend it on a whim.

OH, MY GAWD, ALEXANDER, AND MAVEN MADE A SPECIAL APPEARANCE IN THIS BOOK, AND WHEN I SAW THEIR NAMES, I YELLED FROM PURE HAPPINESS.

If you can’t tell, Alexander and Maven are the favorite characters of this author!

2.5 Stars.

I finished this and gave myself time for it to sit.

Mickey goes through some shit. Off screen she's working on it. I loved loved loved the scene where she handles guy from highschool herself.

Rhett went through some life changing shit. The combination Monster was at times too unbelievable.

I loved their gargoyle, outside scene.

I am still not a fan of the cum in bath products.
I am still not a fan of the unaware somnophilia.
The book at times went off on an inner monologue tangent from each party that was primarily distracting and acted only as filler.

I loved the Fitz angle.

There are no words to describe how excited I felt when I heard that there would be a sequel to Honeysuckles, a novel about a deeply damaged man turned monster who goes absolutely Unhinged when he meets his mate. And you might think you already have an idea of how unhinged he is, but believe me—once you look at that list of trigger warnings—you might become surprised.

So when I heard about Snapdragons, I knew I had to jump on. I mean, no other monster man could be as insane as Creed, right? Yeah, that’s what I thought too. Then I downloaded an ARC copy of the book onto my Kindle and met Rhett Royals.

And…oh my god.

The biggest draw to this series are the characters—both the monster stalkers and their mates—and the raw insanity that draws them together. And because the books are written with dual POV’s, we’re able to learn different facets of both as they tell their story. Snapdragons introduces our FMC, Mickey, who is very much the opposite of all-loving and sweet Demi from Honeysuckles. Mickey Bloom is recovering from a deeply traumatic and abusive relationship, and she feels the first step in moving on is moving into a fixer-upper in Shallow Cove and getting a new job in the town’s local diner. And her favorite part about her new house? The super tall gargoyle statue that stands frozen during the day, his face frozen in a snarl.

This tall and stony mister is named Rhett Royals. As a human, he worked a lot with construction and fixing houses—I know, the irony—before he was taken by the very same labs who experimented with Creed, which also left him with some deep scars and identity issues. And how. When he isn’t a gargoyle, he’s transforming into a crocodile and swimming in the lake behind Mickey’s house. When he’s not a crocodile, he’s blurring into a ghost or giving into his vampiric cravings. As you can guess, just like Creed, Rhett’s DNA is a cocktail mix of various monsters and beasts with many instincts at play. And as a result, Rhett is one nasty, nasty man when it comes to Mickey.

I won’t reveal spoilers because a lot of what this man does needs to be read/seen to believe. But if you glanced at the trigger warnings then you likely already have an idea what is going to happen.

Probably my favorite part about these characters is how different they are, compared to Demi and Creed. Mickey is traumatized but she has a darkness to her that is understandable, one that feeds her fighting spirit. Rhett doesn’t mind that he’s more monster than man, but the story still makes sure to remind us that he had a life before the experiments. A life that part of him still misses, which helps to humanize him.

(Rhett is also dumb. Hot and morally gray, but also DUMB. I love him.)

That’s the biggest draw for me. If you also like violence, drama, blood, monster stalking shenanigans, nasty smut and A LOT of trigger warnings, then this book is definitely for you. I had a lot of fun coming back into this world January Rayne is making. I hope you do too.
