This is a fun, light read about a 30-something woman named Chloe who has a gay best friend, brothers who tease her mercilessly, a so-so job (delivering packages) and a complete inability to say “No.” A handsome man moves in across the street and they meet cute – she backs into his precious newly-repaired sports car.
Chloe’s sweet, elderly neighbor decides to move into a care facility and asks Chloe to take her Chihuahua to the local animal shelter because she can’t take the dog with her. Chloe gets right up to the entrance to the shelter, and true to form, can’t say no to Theo’s pitiful expression. She takes him home and her life gets very interesting.
I have two minor quibbles with this book – the first is, the author apparently has difficulty with possessives and plurals – using “Chihuahua’s” when I’m pretty sure she meant “Chihuahuas” or “Wednesday’s” when it should have been “Wednesdays”; and, the cover art. I started the book because it bubbled up to the top of my TBR pile. I saw the cover, a childlike drawing of a dog and I thought, “What am I doing with a children’s book on my Kindle?”
Those things aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like the relationship between Chloe and her friend Isaac (except I wish she wouldn’t refer to him as “Sac”, it always makes me think of something derogatory), and her budding relationship with the hot guy across the street. This book almost came down more on the side of romance dressed in mystery clothing for me, but the characters were entertaining and the mystery held my interest. I would read more by this author.
I wanted to like this story more, I really, really did. It's just that it annoyed me. :(
Chloe's neighbor gives her a task - take Theo, her dog, to the shelter while she moves into a retirement home. This starts Chloe on an adventure she never expected. Theo is so adorable & personable, Chloe decides to keep him rather than drop him at the shelter. Apparently, Theo has a secret, tho, and everyone is suddenly after him!
To help Chloe on her adventure, we have her brothers, her best friend, and her sexy new neighbor, Brody. There's a lot of humor in this story, and a lot of action. It's very well-written. But Isaac, Chloe's best friend, annoyed me. Actually, just about everyone in this story annoyed me. And I just couldn't get over the annoyance to truly enjoy the story. Chloe likes Brody. Brody likes Chloe. They hang out ALL THE TIME on this adventure, investigating what's going on. And I will say that when they're together, I wasn't annoyed. As much. But still a little.
*sigh* This is a really fun story, and Theo's cuteness really does leap off the page. I hope you'll give it a shot if you like humorous adventure-y stories! : )
This was a nice fun story. Some of the typos were a bit annoying. The storyline was interesting, however, Chloe's best friend became a tad of a drama guy which can be eye rolling. I did like the other characters that surrounded Chloe I wouldn't mind more Chloe adventures. Overall it was a nice sit in the park on a quiet day read.
