A csodalámpa: célkitűzési kézikönyv azoknak, akik utálnak célokat kitűzni

Rate this book
A célok megmutatják, hogyan juthatsz el oda, ahova menni akarsz, de gyakran nem adnak elég támogatást ahhoz, hogy elindulj. Vágyaink különbözőek. Olyan a hatásuk, mintha a szentjánosbogár fényéhez szokott szemedbe villámfény villanna.

I was listening to fitness guru Tony Horton give a talk and he mentioned that this book had influenced
him on his journey to success. It sounded intriguing so I decided to give it a try.

The basic idea of the book is that the most important method of acquiring achievement in life
is by setting goals. The author prefers the term “wish” as opposed to goal. The idea of a wish
instead of a goal is more inspiring and exciting.

The author shows a process to narrow down all of your wishes until you get to your most
important wish. After you get to that point he describes a process to work towards
its fulfillment. The process is termed L.A.M.P. Basically it’s just four steps you take which
are; locking on to your goal, acting on your goal, managing your progress, and persisting.

This book is big on cause and effect. Many times the idea is stated that if you set in motion
the appropriate cause, the effect will take care of itself. If you want to get certain results
then take action to ensure that you generate the proper cause that will get things
rolling.

I found this book inspiring and full of wisdom. On virtually every page you can find
profound and motivating thoughts. You could read this book many times and
always find something useful to get you up and moving towards the success that
you want in life. Highly recommended.

Our CEO promised $100 to any employee who read this book from cover to cover. Naturally, I read it, and naturally, it changed the way I set goals.

Since then I've crossed off the first eight goals I listed. I was eventually invited to speak at an annual conference for our company the year I accomplished my 5th goal: To be in the top three producers company wide. In fact, I was number 1.

If you find yourself setting goals and then giving up a few weeks later--you need to read this book.

I'm a believer!

I didn't finish it; too boring. I would recommend "Goals!" by Brian Tracy as a much better alternative.

The Magic Lamp by Keith Ellis offers a fresh approach to achieving goals by transforming desires into actionable outcomes. Unlike traditional goal-setting methods that often feel restrictive and uninspiring, Ellis introduces a more dynamic and fulfilling process that centers on turning deep desires into reality. The book presents a system called "LAMP," which stands for Lock On, Act, Manage, and Persist, providing a structured yet flexible framework for success.

Central Argument:
Ellis’s central argument is that traditional goal-setting methods are often ineffective because they lack emotional connection and personal meaning. He asserts that desires, rather than goals, are the true motivators of human action. By focusing on what you genuinely want and applying the LAMP process, you can achieve significant and satisfying results in life. This approach shifts the emphasis from mere goal completion to the fulfillment of deeply held desires.

Key Ideas:
• Lock On: Identify and focus on your most important desires. This involves introspection to determine what you truly want and prioritizing these desires based on their significance to you.
• Act: Break down your desires into manageable steps and take consistent action. The key is to create small, achievable tasks that build momentum and move you closer to your desired outcome.
• Manage: Track your progress and make necessary adjustments. This step emphasizes the importance of staying organized and focused, ensuring that you remain on the right path.
• Persist: Stay committed and push through challenges. Persistence, coupled with a strong belief in your ability to succeed, is crucial to overcoming obstacles and achieving your desires.

In The Magic Lamp by Keith Ellis, there’s an illustrative story about a famous piano player. After a stunning performance, a hostess, clearly impressed, approached the pianist and said she would give anything to play like him. The pianist, recognizing the weight of her statement, responded that she likely wouldn’t be able to pay the price required. Intrigued, the hostess insisted she could. The pianist then explained that the price was practicing eight hours a day for twenty years. His response left the room in silence, underscoring the reality that great skill and success require immense dedication and sacrifice—something not everyone is willing to commit to. The story serves as a powerful reminder that achieving significant desires comes with a significant price, and one must be fully prepared to pay it to reach their goals.

Writing Style and Approach:
Ellis writes in a motivational and accessible style, blending practical advice with inspiring anecdotes. His approach is user-friendly, making complex ideas easy to understand and apply. The book is structured to guide readers through each step of the LAMP process, with clear explanations and actionable tips. Ellis’s tone is encouraging, aiming to empower readers to take control of their lives and achieve their dreams.

Strengths and Potential Weaknesses:
The book’s main strength lies in its practical and emotionally resonant approach to achieving goals. By focusing on desires rather than rigid goals, Ellis makes the process more enjoyable and meaningful. However, some readers may find the emphasis on desires too abstract, preferring more concrete, traditional goal-setting methods. Additionally, the book’s reliance on self-motivation and introspection might be challenging for those who struggle with self-discipline.

Target Audience:
The Magic Lamp is ideal for individuals who find traditional goal-setting methods uninspiring or overwhelming. It is particularly suited for those who are motivated by their passions and desires but need a structured approach to turn these into reality. The book is also valuable for anyone looking to reignite their motivation and find a more fulfilling path to success.

Conclusion:
The Magic Lamp offers a refreshing and effective alternative to conventional goal-setting. Keith Ellis’s LAMP process provides a practical framework for turning desires into reality, making the journey toward success more meaningful and enjoyable. While the book may not appeal to those who prefer more traditional methods, its focus on emotional connection and personal fulfillment makes it a powerful tool for anyone looking to achieve their deepest desires.

Success isn’t rocket science. It isn’t about motivation, determination, positive thinking, or any of the other magic bullets that are pedalled so energetically by the self-improvement industry. It’s simply a matter of cause and effect. You have to identify what will cause the effects you want, and then set those causes in motion. Hah, too easy, right?

Couldn't finish this book. I was looking for a serious book on goal setting, expecting it to be inspirational and professional. This book was neither.

How can I describe the writing? It is anything but inspiring and stimulating, it is simplistic and deprived of any depth. There is no research or studies behind the book, it seems like an abridge version of other people's ideas, or an introduction to goal setting for teenagers.

Reads a bit like Covey's book --as one of the concepts discussed is "first things first" which is found in Steven Covey's books.

Skim and scanned this one....not sure I found the genie of the lamp.

Boring and full of condescending second-hand psychobabble.
