Now, that was interesting! The book starts completely differently from the previous ones.
You could say the structure is upside-down.

The book begins with nearly 40 pages of sex!
The characters don’t know each other, barely speak, and the story revolves around the main character’s struggle to save his pregnancy.
In this omegaverse, it’s the alpha’s energy that fuels a healthy pregnancy, and without it, there could be a miscarriage.

Kay is a widower, devastated by the death of his husband, but determined to fight to save his endangered pregnancy. So, he invites alpha Rain, the son of a couple we know from the previous book "Broken," into his bed...

The atmosphere is very unpleasant at first, almost hostile. Kay doesn’t treat Rain very kindly. However, Rain doesn't give up, partly because of the typical fated mates attraction, but also he is surprised seeing Kay’s otherworldly beauty, which sadly attracts not only Rain.
There are a FEW rape attempts in the book (nothing graphic, unsuccessful)

CURSED BEAUTY TROPE
Kay is later called a "cursed beauty" by people in town, someone who attracts trouble, with many alphas wanting to have him.
His beauty, combined with his enticing scent signaling a widowed omega, drives alphas wild. Rain has to defend Kay in several impressive fights.

I was pleased that the author didn’t give Rain the "magical" power that was noticeable in the previous book, where Aiden would enter "fighting mode" and easily defeat everyone. Here, for various reasons, Rain can’t always handle things so easily, adding a thrill to the scenes.

NO INSTA LOVE
Meanwhile, the relationship between Kay and Rain gradually improves. But there’s no magical insta-love here! it’s a slow-burn romance. Kay constantly reminisces about his late husband, whom he sees as a hero, someone who provided perfect protection and was always there for him. Rain feels inferior, flawed, not good enough.

OTHER CHARACTERS
Amid the developing relationship between the two main characters, we encounter other storylines that I believe will be expanded in future parts. We meet Rain’s brother, Storm, who is the only "purple alpha" in their family, able to transform into a true beast(physical transformation!), with a personality somewhat reflecting his wild nature.
I admit, this character intrigued me a lot and seems even more interesting than Rain, so I look forward to reading the next part featuring him.

We also meet other members of Rain’s family, some of them I really want to read more about, and Lake and Aiden make cameos. It’s nice to see that their relationship is still going strong.
But the book can be read without reading "Broken", so if somebody does not want to read part one, it's perfectly okay.

PLOT TWIST

But the most surprising part was the last third of the book!
Until then, it was a slow romance without crazy emotions.
The characters were mainly figuring each other out and looking for answers to some strange behaviors that pointed to them being True Mates.
But overall, the action progressed very calmly.

Then the last 30% of the book happened, and what is revealed completely turned my perception of the situation upside down. I can’t say what it is because it’s a HUGE spoiler that would ruin the book if known beforehand, but really… Eden shocked me with this twist. I couldn’t believe it because I didn’t see it coming.

All I can say is, in this book, not everything is as it seems :)

The ending is why I rate this book 5 stars. Overall, it stands out as very unusual, both in structure and with that intriguing twist at the end. The book is quite long, probably the longest of Eden’s books. It was a really interesting and very unusual journey!

Anyone who DNF’s because of the slow start will miss out on a very interesting ending :)

-------------------------------------------
This is my opinion from an ARC. I read a VERY early ARC, so the book might still undergo some changes.

My rating:
3.9 ****

The book is atypical. It starts with a lot of sex, but the emotional aspects develop very gradually, and the overall pacing of the plot is slow in the first half of the book (it speeds up toward the end).

The main character, Kay, is newly widowed, and the other MC, Rain, comes to his house to help with his at-risk pregnancy. Alphas' energy can help stabilize the pregnancy.

However, Kay still deeply loves his deceased husband, Maurice—this is strongly emphasized in the book. Rain, the guy who comes to help, is treated poorly; Kay doesn’t want to talk to him and even imposes a "talking ban" to silence Rain. He is not allowed to kiss Kay's lips, Kay does not cooperate during sex, and he does not want to spend time with Rain. Rain is almost like an unwanted intruder, despite literally saving the pregnancy.

Kay gradually changes his attitude, initially because he sees that Rain is useful as a protector against other alphas who want him too. He also feels guilty for treating Rain badly and slowly warms up to him.

What I appreciated about the book is that Kay learns to value Rain for unexpected reasons. For example, he admires Rain for not being perfect! Kay realizes that Maurice (his late husband) kept him in a golden cage, and Rain, who is not a flawless hero, is a real, vulnerable person. Even though Rain isn’t the perfect fighting machine that Maurice was, he still tries, and that makes Kay appreciate his character, steadfastness, and bravery. I liked this aspect; Rain’s character felt more grounded and real, not just a shining knight.

I was also glad that the True Mate aspect was developed a bit differently than in "Broken" where it was the main focus, here Rain and Kay are not sure if they are True Mates and it was a good change.

In previous books by this author, I criticized Eden for focusing too narrowly on just one couple with almost no other characters around. Here, I applaud the author for including Kay’s family (his brothers) and Rain’s family (his parents and brothers), which made the book feel more expansive and layered. I really liked the character Storm and would love to read a book about him. That would be fun!

The book has a big plot twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. I had my suspicions, but they were directed elsewhere, so I was genuinely surprised. It was an interesting twist for sure.

What I didn’t like?

Overall, the book is good. Eden improved on what always bothered me before (like including more characters around the MCs), but I do have to deduct a point for the book’s pacing. It was rather slow in the first part (it improves in the second half), and some dialogues felt repetitive, making the book feel a bit longer than necessary. It wasn’t a huge issue, but Eden could have cut about a quarter of the book without losing much of the essence.

I read an early ARC, and this is my honest opinion.

Wow wow wow, so beautiful, so intense, so delicate, so deep, so twisted and angsty.
I really loved the first book, Aiden and Lake story, but Kay and Rain story was incredible and it also really kicked off what looks like a really amazing saga, and if you read these first 2 books omg, you'll really want to know all about this family.
I was extremely captivated from the first page, and as the story went on alternating engaging plot and deep character and relationship development, I couldn't stop reading.
And the twists... chef's kiss.
Their hea was really hard-earned, their path full of obstacles, evil people, uncertainty, but also passion, care, devotion. Every chapter of their journey was so interesting, meaningful and well developed.
The nest 🥹
I absolutely love all Eden's books covers.
I absolutely love the names of all characters in this series!
I absolutely love Eden's writing and every new book is a cozy pleasure to me.
I can't wait to read ALL the next books!

This is a well done, slow-paced romance with a true mate rejection/reluctance element and an unexpected twist at the end.

I was impressed by how detailed this book was and how meticulously the author controlled the plotline, paying attention to every small detail. Sometimes, even a single seemingly unimportant sentence was explained later on. For example, there are only two mentions of Adam's ex-boyfriend, but we see him at the end of the book with Adam. Such attention to detail is something I really appreciate, as it shows how thoughtfully the author approached the book's structure.
The book has even Glossary and the book also includes a family tree of the Nolans.

I actually enjoyed the book's slow and calm tempo, which allowed the characters' closeness to evolve gradually in a very organic and palpable way. I dislike shortcuts from lust to love, and the author avoided that pitfall.

A BIG PLUS - nobody is easily dickmatized here :D
= What was refreshing was that the widowed MC (Kay), despite being in a True Mate relationship, didn’t forget about his husband just like that or fall for the new love interest instantly. I can easily imagine how quickly it could have turned into an instalove scenario due to True Mate attraction, but the author chose a more nuanced path. The love here develops slowly, and it felt just right. It made me respect Kay and Rain even more, and their growth was very tangible.

It was a long read, and I tackled it in parts. There were some lengthy dialogues and musings, but I don't see that as a flaw since everything was well-thought-out and made sense.

Without a doubt, it's a very good book. I read an early ARC, and I heard the author shortened some dialogues after my read, so other readers might perceive it differently, maybe it will be more succinct.

Cheating: No
OM drama: No (although there are a lot of mentions about the late husband)
Breakup: No (but there is a true mate rejection vibe)
POV: 1st person, dual POV
Genre: Omegaverse romance, M/M
Strict roles or versatile: Strict roles
MC age: 23 and 26

An interesting journey that starts with emotionless sex and ends with a beautiful, happy ending.

The story has a very calm pace but managed to hold my attention thanks to the narrative style I really liked, with smooth transitions from one event to the next.

It’s about a young widower, Kay, who reluctantly accepts "a special kind of" help from an alpha(healing sex!), a former roommate of his brother. Initially, their relationship is cold, with Kay being especially unpleasant, which doesn’t make him very likable. However, I warmed up to him over time. And I loved Rain! Such a sweet alpha :)

The change in their relationship over time was very satisfying and mature, with good communication. I was glad to see everything start to fall into place. Much of it came from their conscious decision and willingness to be together, rather than from crazy romantic impulses, so I’d call this a "slow-motion romance"—the kind of love story for people who’ve been in love before and are slowly opening up to a second chance. It felt surprisingly fresh.

I really liked this omegaverse setting, especially how Eden built their version of this world, emphasizing the animalistic aspects of alphas and omegas and how betas exist outside the alpha-omega mating games. It’s an interesting perspective and approach to True Mates, showing a bond so strong that it can rejuvenate people, and breaking it can lead to the partners' deaths. It’s a fascinating and intense setup, making it really intriguing to watch how the characters navigate the challenges.

I love Eden's style, which dives deep into the characters' emotions and develops them slowly without sudden, miraculous changes or unjustified breakthroughs.

It’s a very good, well-crafted story that totally surprised me at the end! Eden really nailed that twist—my jaw dropped!

Another fantastic book from these series.
Kay lost his husband and he's having difficulties moving on. On top of that, he is pregnant and in the risk of losing the baby.
Enter Rain, who comes to help him. Rain liked him from the start but always tried to rein it in because he knew Kay wasn't ready and he wouldn't like it. It was hard, hold onto so much hope, not trying to pressure Kay but feeling like he would never let go of the past.
These characters grew each chapter and I loved it seeing it.
Kay accepted the love he was given and was able to let go of the past. Rain helped him through it and his love never waver, no matter what

This review is going to be brutally honest and contain spoilers, so buckle up.

Firstly, I have a lot of respect for authors that speak multiple languages and take the time and effort to write in English. That said, if English is not your native language, you desperately need native English speakers to edit/beta-read your work. The spelling and grammar were fantastic in this novel, but there were so many instances where the author chose the wrong preposition or turn of phrase and it was jarring. I know, I'm picky, but phrases like "He's coming out on bail tomorrow" are awkward and strange. It pulls you out of the story when things are clearly wrong or you're left guessing at what adjective the author meant to use. Again, kudos for the attempt, the quality of writing is pretty solid, it just needs proper editing.

As far as the story goes, I'll list the cons and then pros, so we can end on a high note.

Cons:
1) It's long. Unnecessarily so.
2) The plot revolves around Maurice's death, but there's no grief. The author mentions Kay's 'mourning period' a LOT, and that he is "bitter and sad", but we see NO instances of genuine grief. You can't lose your mate while pregnant and not weep, reminisce, wail, feel heartsick, and rage. Kay kinda rages at Rain, but it feels like it's more about needing Rain's help and worry that Rain will take Maurice's place. That's not grief. And even when Kay eventually feels secure in his True Mate relationship with Rain, he would still deeply grieve his ex. That's not something you just get over. Ever.
3) There's too much sex at the start. I know, I can't believe I'm writing that, cuz I've read plenty of erotica, but it's a serious overload. Then there's almost none in the second half. It's odd.
4) The pacing is off. The first three chapters seem SO long and the last few feel rushed.
5) What the hell is the name of Lake and Aiden's "home town"?? I don't remember from the first book, but it seems like the author doesn't either because that's the only way it's referred to in the entire story. "We're going to Rain's parents' home town". Uh, what? In general, there are almost no place-names (What college do they go to? Where is the Pharma place located?).
6) Why are all the police corrupt? I can understand the local ones being in the pocket of the Dawsons, but surely the ones they encounter on the road could've just doubted their story or simply yelled at Kay for being in public while smelling that strongly. It was heavy-handed and unrealistic.
7) The introduction of Lake's children (aside from Storm) doesn't feel organic.
8) Maurice's return is very soap-opera-like. Also, if my spouse didn't tell me something big like that for over a year, I'd be pissed, even if I already knew it.
9) I'm not sure why the author decided to make the story set 1000 years in the future with alien DNA causing the a/b/o dynamics, but I didn't think it was necessary. To each their own, but I would've been perfectly happy with a plain old alternate universe.

Pros:
1) The author's created an interesting omegaverse with a lot of instinctual responses and animalistic behaviour. It's a weird mix of non-shifter and shifter omegaverse that works surprisingly well. It's solid world-building.
2) Kay's dilemma at the start of the book -lose your baby or sleep with a stranger- is unique. I wish the author had really leaned into the angst and despair, but there were at least some heightened emotions.
3) Kay and Rain were compelling characters and by the end of the book they felt decently fleshed-out.
4) I liked the push-and-pull between Rain and Storm. All the sibling relationships felt real, even if it kinda tugged your heartstrings that they didn't get along (not even for Lake's sake!).
5) The pacing of the second half of the book was excellent. Lots of plot and character development, rarely a dull moment.
6) I didn't see the twist coming. Maybe because it got super late while I was reading, maybe because of the language issue, maybe because I'm not good at spotting plot twists. Or maybe because the author handled it well. At any rate, Maurice's return was a surprise to me and that was good.
7) I really liked the social problem of how to handle your lover leaving for a better match. And I'm sure different people would handle it differently: some would hold out for their True Mate even knowing they might spend their lives alone, some would go through mates like kleenex, some would be betrayed and hurt. Having kids really complicates things when a True Mate comes along!
8) The art for the cover and in the story is beautiful!

I'm sure I could write more, but I'll stop here. All in all, this book has so much potential. I think if the author got some decent beta-readers or editors for language it would be great. I hope future books are given more attention to detail and polish.

An angsty, but actually really sweet, alpha omega romance novel with hurt/comfort elements.

Duel first person point of view. Rain the alpha. Kay the omega.
HEA.
🌶🌶🌶🌶 4/5. Hot an steamy. Kind of omega heat, but the omega Kay is pregnant.
Mpreg.
No cheating.
True mates-fated mates, half mates, and lower grade mates.
We have nesting, knotting, biting, loving, and a lot of angst between our two main leading men in the beginning.

Kay's husband died, leaving Kay pregnant and in need of an alpha to help him through it all. Kay's brothers set him up with their old friend Rain. Rain is a nice, protective alpha who does offer to help. What Rain wasn't expecting was for Kay to be so standoffish. Kay is going through it guys... He lost his mate, he's pregnant, his feelings are all over the place, and that's to be expected in his situation. Kay doesn't want Rain at all, nothing but sex to help him through the heats of pregnancy. Rain though has emotions, he's, ya know, humanish too, so.
Our men seem to come to an understanding of sorts, but throw in bad people, alphas mostly, Kay's beauty and heats, and Rain protectiveness, and we get an organic blossoming love between the two that goes much further than just breaking heats. Maybe also kind of a bit of rejection.... But! Not for long. They find trust and help each other.
Rain is so good. I love him. An alpha male cinnamon roll. Then there is Kay. So grumpy, but I understand him. He's secretly so sweet.
I love a good hurt comfort novel, and with a baby at the ending, yup. Love it!

First, kudos for that unique and arresting title. Great instincts, Eden West! She leaned into the hook, no apologies, and delivers what you’re expecting. Eden delivers telenovela-level conflict and drama, and this book is no exception.

Fated mates (True Mates in this omegaverse world), hurt-comfort, possessiveness "he's mine" instincts, some romantic suspense, grieving pregnant widower omega (2 months since death), hurting divorced alpha (1 year after divorce). The details of the True Mate alpha-omega interactions, the special calls and responses they have only for each other, the primal way True Mates connect and unique physical manifestations they have are fascinating and add so much to the read; I thoroughly enjoy Eden’s take on omegaverse. Her nesting element is special, well thought through. This book contains Mpreg.

Rain accepts his friend Adam’s request to help Adam’s grieving widowed brother Kay with his endangered pregnancy. For pregnant omegas need an alpha, or they may lose their baby, and Kay wants this baby, the last thing he has of his recently deceased husband, with all his heart. Enough to agree to intimacy with a strange alpha to save the baby.

It’s an untenable situation, fraught with conflict and tension and in-your-throat intimacy...really wonderfully set up and executed. Kay’s late husband was his High Mate (part of mate rankings by physical compatibility in Eden’s omegaverse world), and the only thing stronger than a High Mate is...you know it. A True Mate. Well, guess what?!

It takes time to figure out, and we’ve got an intense story of Rain doing all he can to care for this grief-stricken omega without over stepping. Kay’s anger at having to go through this situation for the sake of his baby, his internal conflict, is palpable and intense, and the story flies by, focused on the strong romantic conflict. Kay is pretty horrible to Rain at first, threatened by the strength of their connection from the start, and that adds to the tension. It builds and builds.

I love that Rain does not put up with being treated rudely; he makes it clear from the start he’ll accept all Kay’s conditions, but not being treated like a thing. Rain is on pheromone blockers, so neither can smell the other’s natural scent, and that of course keeps anyone from realizing at first what’s really going on between them.

Plot twists, danger from other alphas (TW for near sexual assaults...constantly, honestly, it got to be a bit overkill), family conflict with Kay’s late husband’s parents (they aren’t bad, just, grieving themselves, and threatened by Rain’s sudden presence), it all adds up to a riveting story of two people who are truly meant to be. With a LOT of sex, because, Kay needs it for his health, literally. But heads up, there is sex on almost every other page in this book. Luckily, Eden writes beautiful intimacy.

The twist at the end is not a real surprise, however, the way it was handled made me incredibly angry. This is a HUGE spoiler, do NOT read it unless you’ve already read the book and want to find out what other people thought about it:

I also was shocked by Rain’s family dynamic. After adoring his parents’ story (Broken) and the true, clear love they have for each other and their children, the actions and treatment their grown up children show each other—so much is negative—was eye-opening to me. So many of them were awful to each other, disrespecting their siblings, or being cold...it was confounding. Their parents are so loving and supportive! If I hadn’t already read about Storm as a positive and intriguing secondary character in another book, I wouldn’t have wanted to read about any of them. Lucky for me, I'd already read Unbreak Me and really liked Storm's part in it, so already have book 1 of his story and am looking forward to reading it. Though I'm not sure I can get past his actions regarding his siblings exes—baffling. Why would the protectiveness an alpha feels toward omegas not also go in a direction of loyalty to siblings? I don't get it. And the rest of these kids...I don’t know. They’re so mean or cold to each other, and River’s actions regarding their parents are just...No. I don't care what his motives are. No.

Anyway, back to this book, which I did mostly enjoy the heck out of! Eden is a terrific storyteller, whether you like where she goes with things or not.

HEA. Fated mates/True Mates. Hurt-comfort. Mpreg. Divorced alpha, pregnant widowed omega. Nesting. Suspense. No cheating, no others in any way, but, several aggressive OM approaches to Kay due to his omega pheromones, enhanced by pregnancy—attempted SA. But entirely safe for me, romance-wise. Highly recommended, as is the series.

At first, I thought I might DNF it because I struggled with the sheer amount of sex scenes that started after the widowed omega, Kay, takes on a new lover who is supposed to save his pregnancy. However, the book gradually grew on me. It’s really solidly done and thoroughly crafted. I appreciated how this book breaks so many stereotypes—the relationship is not a magical insta-love; they work on their closeness slowly, despite being True Mates. It’s all so neatly constructed that I’m impressed with how the author has grown since their first book.

My only qualm is with the middle part, which is why I deducted one point from my rating. The beginning features a lot of sex, followed by a significant slowdown, and the development of many plot side-threads left me a bit weary. However, the ending was really impressive.

It gave me goosebumps!

It was a good reading experience.

‘I Replaced His Husband’ is one kf the most original versions of the Omegaverse that I have read and honestly I love the interpretation of the Mate system. At the beginning of the book, Eden West acknowledges that English is not their first language and I honestly never would’ve known that. The way things are written are relatively clear and I was absorbed in the book right away. I loved the instant lust to slow burn trope used here and I enjoyed watching Kay and Rain’s relationship grow. Well, there were a couple of choices that both came and made that I didn’t quite agree with. It was still good to see some healthy communication. Rain’s approach to dealing with his feelings and emotions while being sensitive to Kay’s situation was a breath of fresh air against other Alphas that would force them upon their Omegas. Over all, truly enjoyed this book.

Lovely

I Replaced His Husband is years later, when Adien ans Lake’s children are all grown up. Rain is the son of Alpha Aiden Nolan and Omega Lake Nolan, whose story is in Broken book 1 of Eden’s Omegaverse, True Mates/Fated Mates. In the book, Rain is asked by his college friend Adam, to help his brother Kay, who lost his husband, Marius, 2 months prior, in a car accident. Kay needs an Alpha to help save his baby. Rain agrees but Kay is determined to keep his distance, mentally and emotionally. But Rain proves his love and loyalty to Kay over and over. But Kay cannot resist the pull that is between him and Rain. A five star ⭐️ rating for Eden West on a story of love, patience, passion and so much more. 💜

It was rather slow, but I enjoyed it somehow, even with the slow pace. 😌

I liked how the relationship was built very gradually; nothing was earned easily! It was truly a slow burn in love, realistically showing the time needed to mourn after losing a loved one.
And the twist was rather unexpected! :D

excellent

I absolutely love the authors work.

The way they explain their universe and don’t expect you to know the nuances is so good.

I love unique omegaverse stories and this is so so good. Can’t wait for more , and what a twist at the end. ( no spoilers)

Great Addition to Series

This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I connected with the MCs and supporting characters. I hope to read more about Lake and Aiden's kids along with their own HEA. The twist at the end was surprising, and I felt a little torn about how the story ended but still felt invested in the story and wasn't ready for it to end.

I HATE the idea of telling someone how long is too long (or not long enough to grieve), but damn husband died 2 months ago was even too short for me. I understand there are exceptions such as an omega would need an alpha during pregnancy, but it just felt a bit wrong
