Sophie Anderson thought she had moved on from the heartbreak of her past, but when her career leads her straight into the path of Liam Ayoub—the man she once loved and lost—everything changes.
Liam Ayoub thrives on success and charm, but behind his polished image lies the regret of losing Sophie. Now, forced to work together on his family’s high-stakes hotel project, old passions resurface, and the lines between past and present blur.
As desire reignites and buried secrets come to light, Sophie must navigate the demands of her career, her father’s ailing health, and the feelings she swore she’d buried. Meanwhile, Liam faces his own reckoning—will they find their way back to each other, or will his past mistakes tear them apart forever?
“A Simple Reminder” is a steamy second-chance romance about two souls destined for each other but torn apart by bad timing and past mistakes. When fate gives them a second shot, sparks fly, tensions rise, and old wounds threaten to resurface. It’s the second interconnected-standalone in the Unexpected Love Series and guarantees a happy ending.
M. Pamela is a Swedish romance enthusiast who has been dreaming of writing since the days when high school was more than just a distant memory (but let's not get into the specifics).
She loves to write all kinds of romance and loves to read them as well. For a reason, she now prefers to read English books rather than Swedish
When she’s not writing, reading, or daydreaming, she’s either traveling all around the world in search of new inspiration or enjoying time with her family Socials:
Okay, so she did it again! If I say that I love this book, it's honestly an understatement because, like, I feel so much more than that for this book, this series, and the characters! When I read AWWS last year (and yes, I still think about it ALL THE TIME, even after a whole year), I was hooked from the moment we got those little crumbs of Sophie and Liam’s story. M. Pamela had me right there! I wanted to devour Sophie and Liam's book the second I finished AWWS, but, you know what they say—good things come to those who wait! And trust me, I’m SO glad I waited the whole year. I’m not disappointed AT ALL. I loved every character from AWWS, but now? I feel so much more for them! Like, I wanna be IN this book! I wanna be part of Leora, Sophie, and Adeline’s friendship group! The way they care for each other and always have each other's backs? UGH, it makes me emotional! They are literally sisters—not by blood, but by heart. They're giving Powerpuff Girls energy! That bond is everything, and reading about it just makes me want that kind of friendship in my life. In book 1, we saw Liam as this mischievous, irresponsible brother, but after reading his POV in book 2, I get him on a whole other level. The way he seeks validation from his older sibling, or anyone he looks up to, hit me hard. It's crazy how sometimes we do things we think are right just to get that approval. I loved Liam in book 1, but now? I LOVE him even more. The way he’s obsessed with Sophie is just chef’s kiss. He only has eyes for her, and it’s so sweet. The fact that, after 10 years, he still remembers everything about her? Her coffee order, his apartment code being her birthday, the whole forget-me-nots thing... OMG. And of course, “You. Don’t. Leave. Without. Telling. Me.” I died. DEAD. And let’s talk about Sophie—MY GIRL, SOPHIE! 💖😭 Her character was written so flawlessly. As a friend, an interior designer, a girlfriend, and especially as a daughter—there was such a clear arc in her growth. Watching her evolve from her past self to the present was like... wow. She’s so much stronger and a fighter now, but she's still so vulnerable when it comes to her father and those she loves. That scene between Sophie and her dad? I bawled. I literally cried my eyes out, no shame. The way the emotions were conveyed through those words? Everything. The final scene with her and her dad was SO powerful and full of raw emotion. I’m not even gonna pretend—I cried beautifully during that. Can we just collectively say how much we despise Jared and Lilly? Because, seriously, they’re the worst. Overall, the book is EVERYTHING. The pacing is perfect, and the writing is just immaculate. I was a fan of M. Pamela when I read her first book, but now? I’m a devoted fan. I’ll read anything she writes in the future, no question. And I’m SO hype for the third book! I love Adeline, and I can’t wait to dive into her story. Also, her mom is GOALS. I need more of her in book 3. And can we talk about how much it made me so happy that there were Arabic words in the book? I don't know, it just hit different and made me feel like M. Pamela really thought of everything, which just shows how amazing her writing is. Like, she’s a whole mood with how she brings depth to every character and every scene. This book was a rollercoaster, and I am HERE for it.
Thankyou so much M. Pamela for this beautiful ARC. 🤍

Tropes: 💖 Workplace Romance (Boss x Employee) 🩷 Second Chance Romance 💖 Office Banter and Tension 🩷 Forced Proximity 💖 Slow Burn 🩷 Dual Timeline 💖 It's Always Been You
I loved the first book in the series but I loved this one even more!! This book was super sweet, charming, cute, & heartwarming. The flashback chapters were interwoven seamlessly throughout the story, & I really loved the dual timeline. I thought the reason for their breakup when they were younger was so valid (even though it hurt). I loved the Arabic phrases thrown into the dialogue- it made the dialogue so beautiful & poetic.
Sophie is kind, determined, ambitious & passionate, but also a little guarded & reserved. Liam is the complete opposite of his brother (from book 1) which I loved because his personality was definitely my taste🤭 he was charming, flirty, sweet, possessive & obsessed, & his jealousy had me giggling sm because of how ridiculous he was being!
There is an instant connection between Sophie & Liam when they meet for the first time in their early twenties. They used to be such a cute couple & the flashback chapters of them were adorable! 10 years later there is tension & animosity, fuelled by undeniable chemistry, angst, longing, & this pull between them that neither can resist. Bonus points for no third act breakup because this couple handled the conflict so well🙏🏼 I loved them.
Thank you to the author for this arc🩷
𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞: second chance romance, Lebanese rep, forced proximity, boss x employee, workplace romance, it’s always been you, slow burn, he falls first & hardc, dual timeline
The characters are interconnected from the author’s first book “A Win-Win Situation.” I didn’t read the first book, so there is a lot of implied history between the characters. I think it works be best for readers to read book #1 to get the full context of the relationships between the characters.
A second chance romance between first loves, Liam and Sophie, the story flashes between past and present. They met during Sophie’s study abroad in Barcelona, and had a whirlwind romance that ended due to both poor choices and misunderstanding related to those choices.
Sophie and Liam are forced to work together to open a new hotel that is part of Liam’s family business. An old flame reappears, employees scheme to get what they want, and there is a lot of push and pull between Liam and Sophie about if they should or shouldn’t try to be together.
The spice is hot, but at times it also feels toxic between Sophie and Liam… Most of the toxicity comes from Liam, but I think it’s supposed to be “sexy and intense” and instead comes off demanding. They both have a lot of internal dialogue that if they just said it out loud would solve so many problems between them.
Tropes: — second chance romance — fake engagement — boss/employee — billionaire — found family
Lastly, there are some issues with the story that could be fixed by some editing. There were typos that are probably due to translating into English, and phrasing that isn’t the norm in ”American” English even though the main character (Sophie) is supposed to be from the United States.
I think the story has 4 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ qualities, even though I had a hard time really connecting with it due to the grammar, phrasing, and some character trait inconsistencies.
I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of this delightful story. A Simple Reminder is the second book in the Unexpected Love Trilogy, but I had no trouble following along. While some friendships and relationships likely hold deeper meaning for those who have read the first book, the story still stands well on its own.
Overall, A Simple Reminder is a light, sunny, and charming read. The banter had me giggling, and it was easy to root for the main characters. While I didn’t personally connect with some of the conflicts they faced, their feelings and choices felt authentic. If you’re looking for a wholesome, fun, and slow-burn romance, this book is a great pick!
I read A Win-Win Situation a few months ago, and I loved it so much! As soon as I saw the ARCs opening for A Simple Reminder, I had to sign up! And oh my—this book is so good! The chemistry, the characters, the romance, the character development—I loved everything! The love between these two characters feels so real, and watching the past scenes was heartbreaking. They go through so much, dealing with traumas and fears, and seeing them overcome it all was so comforting. Both Sophie and Liam have to prove themselves in different ways, but watching them fight for their happiness was beautiful! I shed a few tears over Sophie's situation with her father because it was just so sad. Also, I absolutely loved the female friendships in this book! Adeline, Sophie, and Leora are so supportive of each other, and I just adored that
I had the pleasure of beta reading this months ago but gosh this book still lives rent free in my mind this long after. You know the feeling when you read a book that just speaks to you on so many levels? That’s how I feel about A Simple Reminder.
Sophie’s inner monologue is so written so beautifully and quite relatable and only one chapter in I could instantly feel the emotional sneaking up on me. M. Pamela just knows how to make a person feel all the emotions almost instantly, it’s truly a gift. For example the way Sophie's feelings about her dad's dementia was written was done so well. As someone who has lost somebody to this disease, I see the truth behind her words.
The writing in this book feels so effortless and the flow is incredibly and it makes you don’t want to stop reading. Sophie and Liam’s relationship is complicated for sure but they also have such a long history and feelings that never disappeared, even after not seeing each other for 10 years. The angst is off the chartssssss in this book it must be one of the angstiest books I have ever read in a long time and it just made the sexual tension and the eventual unification even better and sexier.
Liam was so dreamy. He truly only had eyes for Sophie and once she got back into his life, he didn’t stop until she gave him that second chance. It’s a workplace romance, since Sophie is the interior designer that gets hired for the new hotel in NY that Liam is responsible for, so we also get a lot of delicious boss/employee banter and a bit of office action, iykyk.
The angst and denial walked hand in hand in this when Sophie says.. “Whatever we had, it's gone. Pooff. Completely." I was literally screaming the word denial on the top of my lungs but when Liam said, "You. Don't. Leave. Without. Telling. Me" I was dying of angst!!!! HE IS THE MOMENT.
Also can we please talk about the small cameos of Leora and Lucas and the friendship moments between Sophie, Leora and Addie? I just love this girl gang so much!!!
Thank you M. Pamela for letting me BETA read this extraordinary book!
🌸 What to expect: — workplace romance — second chance — it’s always been you — boss/employee — talk of dementia — slow burn — mental health rep — loads of longing — back and forth banter — boy obsessed — he falls first — flashbacks chapters
A Simple Reminder by M. Pamela is everything I could ever want in a book and more! From start to finish, I was completely captivated. This story had all the feels, and I was so lucky to read it as an ARC!
I ARC-read A Win-Win Situation (the first book in this interconnected series), and I HAVE BEEN IN LOVEEE WITH M. PAMELA EVER SINCE!! She just knows how to write stories that hit right in the heart.
Let’s talk about Liam Ayoub! the man who ruined me in the best way possible. 🫠💘 His depth, his warmth, his devotion—he is the definition of a dream man. The man is smitten by Sophie!! And the way his apartment code was SOPHIE’S BIRTHDAY😭😭like, are you kidding me?!? I melted. The way he loves her so effortlessly, so fiercely, with everything he has, made my heart ache in the best way.
And Sophie? She is so incredibly strong. Watching her navigate her emotions, fight for herself, and embrace love despite her fears was so moving. She’s such a well-written character, and I admired her journey so much. Liam and Sophie together? Absolute magic. Their love is tender, deep, and so beautifully healing.
THE BOOK COVER. The forget-me-not flowers. 🥹 It all makes so much sense now, and I just😭💙 The way it ties into Sophie’s story had me in shambles. Such a beautiful detail that made the reading experience even more special.
And of course, I can’t talk about this book without mentioning the girl gang. Leora, Adeline, and Sophie have my whole heart! Their friendship is everything!!😩❤️ supportive, loving, and always there when it matters most. Whether it’s through teasing, heartfelt advice, or just being a shoulder to lean on, they are the definition of ride-or-die best friends. The way they hype each other up and stand by each other’s sides no matter what made my heart so full. Female friendships like this are EVERYTHING.
AND THEN THE HINTING TOWARD BOOK 3??? 👀👀👀 Adeline and Micah’s story is coming, and I am already not okay. I need it NOW.
A Simple Reminder isn’t just a romance—it’s a story of healing, resilience, and love in its purest form. M. Pamela has done it again, and I will never recover. If you love books that make you feel EVERYTHING, this one is an absolute must-read. 💖✨
📖 Tropes featured in this book: ✔️ Second chance romance ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Forced proximity ✔️ Emotional healing ✔️ He falls first, and HARD ✔️ Found family vibes ✔️ Angsty but deeply romantic ✔️”it’s always been you”
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (but honestly, infinity stars wouldn't be enough!!)
This book is about a younger brother. Liam is Lucas’ younger brother, the carefree one who has everything easy. When that is the case, no one takes you seriously. This is the story of Liam proving his worth in love and in life. It’s a two timeline dual POV, a broken love story that reborns from ashes that have been burnt 10 years ago. Sophie was an interior designer student when she met Liam in Barcelona. The fell in love and started dating. But there were things that Sophie could not overlook and the relationship ended. Right person, wrong time.
We’re in New York City now. Liam and Lucas bought a hotel in the city and it needs to be restored completely. Lucas hires Sophie as the chief designer without revealing that it’s Liam who’s going to be the one in charge of the hotel and its revamp. And from the ashes I mentioned before, a new fire grows.
This is a second chance romance and now they need to see if now the person is right as it always was, and the time goes accordingly. They both have changed in the 10 years they spent apart and this time they are mature enough to not be afraid of being vulnerable towards each other for they know that they are safe when they are together. They show their imperfections without apologizing, they are more human in this timeline.
The build up was slow but solid and I have to say that personally I loved the second half of the story was so much more enjoyable. The pieces that had been scattered all over the place for so long start falling into place and the best part is that instead of hearing confessions and apologies, we have these flashbacks that tell us exactly why it didn’t work the first time. From that moment on, the pages started flying before my eyes and I even cried good tears with the last few chapters.
Of course there were a couple of things, minor things, that did not sit quite right with me. But I also had moments of laughter and joy. I loved Sophie and I felt her very close to me and who I am. Everything that happened to her felt like it happened to me, and in the end I was very proud of her.
tropes - second chance - boss x employee (workplace) - no 3rd act break up - slowburn(ish) - forced proximity - "it's always been you"
i really enjoyed this book. i liked it more than a win-win situation. these tropes honestly had me caving because i am a sucker for second chance romance. sophie and liam were unbelievable cute and i enjoyed their story and the depth of their relationship. i liked sophie's relationship with adeline because honestly best friend goals? ALSO HIS APARTMENT CODE BEING HER BIRTHDAY? second chance will forever be my favorite. i liked that this book wasn't really grumpy x sunshine (personal preference). and their TATTOOS? i'm dead, that was adorable as hell.
one of my problems was the nickname, sunshine. it's more of a personal thing because it reminds me of twisted love (ana huang) and it makes me sad and the nickname is honestly really cringey. i also didn't really like the reason for the break up. obviously, breaking up with someone because they did what liam did is completely valid and makes sense but i kind of thought there would be more drama, you know?
i really enjoyed this book and i'm super excited for the 3rd. thank you for arc (it's my first one, too)!!!!
First off, a massive thank you to M. Pamela for this beautifully crafted second-chance romance and for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book! 💖 From the very first page, I was completely hooked, drawn into Sophie and Liam’s emotional, tension-filled journey.
This book was so well-written, every emotion leaping off the page and straight into my heart. The longing, the regret, the undeniable pull between Sophie and Liam—it was all so raw and real. The past and present collided in such a way that I could feel every ounce of heartbreak and hope they carried.
I loved how relatable both characters were. Sophie, navigating the pressure of her career while dealing with her father’s illness, felt so real—her emotions, her hesitations, her undeniable feelings for Liam. And Liam? The regret, the longing, the way he still saw Sophie as his greatest “what if”—it was impossible not to feel for him. At different points in the book, I could completely relate to both of them—the pain of the past, the fear of reopening old wounds, and the hope that maybe, just maybe, love can get a second chance.
Thank you again, M. Pamela, for this incredible book—I loved every second of it! 💕
- Dual Timeline - Dual POV - Second Chance Romance - Boss x Employee - Forced Proximity - He Falls First
Sophie Anderson is an up and coming interior designer living in NYC who has just landed an opportunity as the lead designer for a new hotel. Her excitement for the job is quickly turned sour when she walks in to find her ex boyfriend as her boss. Liam Ayoub, the younger brother looking to prove his worth in his family's business, but also Sophie's ex whom he is still hoping to get back together with. While working closely with each other, we see Sophie dealing with many different mental and emotional battles that she finds ways to overcome and adapt. All while trying to block out her feelings towards Liam, which she eventually gives in to . This was such a cute second chance romance. And I love how much Liam cared for her and would do anything for her.
Thank you M. Pamela for giving me a chance to read this ARC early. All thoughts in this review are my own.
(4'25⭐) First of all, thanks to Pamela for giving me the chance of being an ARC reader for her new book. It's my first one and I enjoyed it so much! Even though I didn't read AWWS, I enjoyed this story a lot and now I really want to read it as fast as possible!! Liam and Sophie were adorable and I've suffered with their story. I'm happy they found each other after 10 years and God, I LOVED how Liam “crawled” to get his love back. Also the mention of Forget-me-nots and Sophie's father... A tear came to my eyes because his dementia reminded me of something that happened to my grandma :') but at least he's happy her petal got married to the love of her life! I'm staying to read Micah and Adeline's story. CAN'T WAIT!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A late Arc review because I was busy with Ramadan buttttt Happy Eid. And Liam and Sophie truly made my Eid As much as I hate second chance trope I loved these two so much. My kindhearted, soft, beautiful petal Soph life wasn't easy on her she just wanted to be seen and listened to. And Liam was true man but in his rebellious era. The past wasn't their time but now they matured and knew what really matter they decided or he to be specific decided to not let go and make things right and being the amazing man he is. Noooooow let's come to my favorite character I can't wait for Addies book. I'm SAT because she is so me and I want to know what her story will be, Micah seems amazing and smitten since the first glance 😏. Let's wait and see
I had never read this author and this is actually book 2 in the series (headed to read book 1 right now!) and I am totally hooked.
I adore Liam and Sophie and their love story was a beautiful second chance romance. So many little touches in the story just made it so romantic and lovely. The use of Arabic phrases of love and devotion were beautiful and really made you love the characters even more.
I loved the friend/family group. His brother’s and her best friend are book 1 and this book totally gives you a hint of what book 3 will be. I can’t wait!
Absolutely beautiful story! When I first started reading I didn't even realize it was the second book in the series. While there were some flashbacks to the first book, you definitely can read this one separately, though I am going to have to go read the first one now! It was the perfect blend of story and spice, and there were some scenes that just made me so giddy! The writing style is perfect and the recipe at the end is just a perfect little gift, especially since reading in the story about it made my mouth water! Thank you so much M. Pamela for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!
They are just so good together that their story just fills your heart.
Watching them meet, fall in love, break apart, and then come back together it's absolutely amazing, and I wouldn't want it any other way. The way this author writes this story is like you are watching a movie right before your eyes. The romance, the back and forth, the connection is amazing. I love them so much, 100% recommended♥︎
This was wonderful, just an excellent second chance romance. They are still just in love as the day that Sophie left Barcelona. Liam knows that he has a lot to make up for and he is prepared to do it. Sophie is fighting against it so hard but in her heart she knows she still loves him. They are really good together and the fact that they are bossxemployee just makes it a little more spicy.
sophie and liam were magical 🥹 had the pleasure of receiving an ARC of A Simple Reminder! to say I loved this story is putting it lightly. to see my culture in a book is so beautiful. the themes touched on in this book hit so close to home so i feel so extremely seen and was so emotional reading sophie and liam’s journey. I cannot wait for what is to come because I know M Pamela is going to outdo herself!!! love love love
Absolutely wonderfully written second chance romance that will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions! The book starts off slightly slower to build up but once it takes off there’s no putting it down! So many emotions were felt while reading this and was such a feel good book in the end! Will 100% be back to read the third when it is released!
1⭐️ This book came straight out from wattpad. So she (sophie) already works with her ex (liam), Why would you bring another ex (jared) into the mix? And then Liam reveals that he knew he was her ex? So WHY WOULD YOU HIRE HIM??? A lot of plot holes just to keep the story going. The writing isn’t strong, neither the plot nor the couple. Way too long for nothing.
I had the opportunity to read this book as an arc reader and I LOVED it! This is the first time I’ve ever been an arc reader and I don’t think any book will ever top this one! I can’t wait to buy the paperback and put it on my shelf! 😍
I totally wasn’t ready for how much this book would hit me 😭 I thought I was diving into a cute second-chance romance, but nope—it wrecked me in the best possible way 🫠💔 This was my first read by this author and now I’m fully obsessed!
Let’s talk about Liam! OMG! This man RUINED me. 😍 His depth, warmth, and devotion made him the dream man! I mean, he even set his apartment code to SOPHIE’S BIRTHDAY?! How sweet is that?! 🥹❤️ I melted every time he showed his love for her so effortlessly and fiercely.
And Sophie??? She’s so strong and brave and just… ugh, I adored watching her fight for herself and open up to love again. Her growth was so beautifully written and so moving. I cried. So much.
Both Liam and Sophie needed to heal, separately and together. Right person, wrong time is how their story started. Their love was tender, emotional, and healing in all the right ways.
Also, THE TENSION. The flashbacks?? The pining?? The whole “we shouldn’t but we absolutely will” energy??? 🔥🔥 off. the. charts. And when their past and present finally collide?? Whew. Sparks were flying everywhere 😮💨
Let’s not forget the girl gang 💕 Leora and Addie are the kind of ride-or-dies we all need. Their friendship made my heart so full—it was just as emotional as the romance, and I loved every second of it.
The forget-me-not flowers on the cover?? Devastatingly beautiful. Once I realized how they tied into Sophie’s story and the depth they added, I was in tears 🥹 (1000% getting them as a tattoo now btw 💐)
And let’s not forget about those hints toward a third book! Adeline and Micah’s story is coming, and I can’t wait; I need it now!
