Good read for prepping for consulting but not my usual read. Hopefully it helps me get a job. Like reading books where I don’t have to deal with real world. Interesting to see how an industry that is considered highly respected is so easily broken down.
The quick and dirty way to jump start your preparation for a case interview. Short and to the point it helps you understand how the recruitment process works, from resume and cover letter to "fit" questions, and case interviews, It explains how to get through it all.
A couple things to point out:
- Understand the frameworks. Don't memorize them and don't use them blindly. The goal of the case interview is to see if you can form a hypothesis that gets you closer to answering the question and a way to prove it or disprove it. Not how well you remember a framework.
- If you are interviewing with McKinsey, be aware that they do "interviewer led" interviews. This means that you won't really be required to "drill down" on an issue because you will jump from one question to the next within the context of the same case. The important skill to practice is being able to point out what factors affect this issue and how they are grouped.
