His lips are sealed, but she’s screaming for more . . .
Silence is his most dangerous weapon… K19 Security Solutions partner, Rhys “Monk” Perrin works hard and keeps his mouth shut. Doing what he’s told, when he’s told, Monk’s missions are the most perilous and extreme. After all, he’s riddled with guilt from years ago that’s left him numb and dangerous. But when he meets his partner’s older sister, Saylor Sharp-Davis, Monk realizes there’s more to fight for.
She talks the talk, but fears the walk… Saylor is no stranger to the life of private intelligence operatives, growing up with one of K19’s senior partners for a brother. The majority of the danger she’s faced was at the hands of her ex-husband. And when she encounters Monk and his gentle touch, she craves it again and again. But she’s not about to let down her guard.
The enemy is closer than they realized… When Saylor’s life is threatened, Monk is hellbent on protecting her—refusing to lose another person he loves. But circumstances are tearing them apart, and time is running out. Will the strong, silent savior finally say what he wants?
While each book in the K19 Security Solutions Series is a standalone with its own HEA, they may be more enjoyable read in order.
Monk and Saylor have been featured a bit in all the books to date. In this one we get to see how their relationship develops.
Now it hasn't been an easy path at all, Saylor is a single mom and her daughters are everything to her. Her ex is in prison and her brother, Razor, does his darnedest to keep him there.
Monk doesn't talk very much, hence the nickname. I have to tell you he gets downright chatty around Saylor though.
What starts out as a no strings relationship, quickly begins to be more. The problem is both Monk and Saylor are afraid of commitment.
Many twists and turns in this relationship, primarily caused by Monk's job. Plus the fact that in spite of all the talking they do they aren't totally communicating.
With Saylor keeping quiet about something she's doing and Monk finding out from Doc and Merrigan instead of her, just adds more difficulty.
As Monk holds vigil over Onyx, who's in a coma from the plane crash, Saylor's ex manages to get parole. Then even more fun begins.
There's fun, romance, suspense, sizzling heat and so much more!
The quiet ones are the ones you have to look out for and Monk is on the top of the list. Known as a man of few words it's funny that the one he connects to is a woman of words. . . lots of words. But she's also the only one he talks to. I knew in my gut that his story would be emotional and it was, mainly because this author wouldn't have it any other way. Now we get monks story but that isn't all this is. As much as they both fight this and allow their past and their present to get in the way it'll happen, look at the guys who have set an example for him. In order for it to happen things will move and shake and when it all falls in place you can breathe again.
Their "relationship" starts off easy enough but neither one does easy and neither does this author. They each have reasons for the bubble wrap they have secured around their hearts to keep others at bay. What they don't realize is that it doesn't work with each other and when they do the chemistry between them is only part of what changes. A great addition to the standalone series especially since we see some of the old gang and more. Great suspense and action too.
ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from BookSprout
Monk is book 7 in the K19 Security Solutions by Heather Slade...this series is amazing!! Standalone but interconnected and reading in order gives you a better understanding of the series.
We have read about Rhys “Monk” Perrin in the other 6 books and now it’s his turn to find his HEA with his partner’s older sister, Saylor Sharp Davis or so we hope...
Saylor, divorced with two young children’s is trying to heal and move forward from her abusive husband but when her ex starts threatening her she needs the help of her brother’s security team. While she understands all that’s involved she is not sure her heart can take the one person assigned to her...Monk.
Monk a member of the K19 Security Solutions has had Saylor in his sights for sometime but not wanting a relationship due to his work. After some discussion between Monk and Saylor they decide to have a no strings attached relationship. But as we all know feelings do end up being involved...
Action packed, suspense, steamy, romantic, misunderstandings are just some of what happens in this story...do these two find the HEA??
Hot, hunky special operatives and their strong, intelligent, beautiful women – what could be better? We've had glimpses of Monk and Saylor, Razor's sister, in the other books and I was really looking forward to their story. Monk has intrigued me from the beginning with his strong, stoic, silent persona. Take the whole still waters thing added to his operative training and it’s all very appealing.
This is a terrific addition to a series that has held my attention since the beginning. While each character's romance is resolved in his book, there's a storyline that continues from book to book, similar to B.J. Daniels' western romances. These characters leave their mark, so it’s always a treat to catch up with them from one book to the next. If you like military romance with a bit of mystery, you’ll love this one.
*I read an early edition of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide feedback and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source.
Beautifully Done!💚💙 This is one I've been waiting and waiting to read! First of all, it is part of the K19 series, best served in order, but NOT mandatory. The author did a beautiful job of adding just enough backstory to enhance Monk as a stand alone. For those of us that have been with K19 all along, it was a fast blast to the past from a very different perspective. So, yes, I loved it, Monk and Saylor, each with their own demons from their pasts to come haunt them in their dreams AND reality. Some very intense situations throughout, both directly and indirectly as this read is based over a longer time span, but necessary, for these two with their blase` attitudes, but the hearts knew, the minds just had to catch up. This hits all the buttons and is a great read to lose yourself in.
Monk works with the K19 protecting the innocent and traveling as needed to “save the world”. Saylor has two young girls, a bad taste in her mouth from her ex, and relief she can move out of her K19 brothers’ home.
They enjoy each other’s company, but don’t want a relationship. Monk doesn’t want anyone waiting for him, and Saylor has seen the schedule her brother keeps. That might work logically for the brain, but the heart knows better.
Every character in this series will steal your heart, but I think Monk did so even more!! Can this man known for his reticence to talk, win over this very special woman?? Splendid read!!

COMMUNICATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR LOVE TO OVERCOME FEAR
Rhys ‘Monk’ Perrin finds Razor Sharp’s sister, Saylor, to be the one for him. Between the two of them, they have a hard time communicating and secrets, along with Saylor’s mistrust of men and wanting the best for her daughters, lead them on a winding road to a relationship that falters several times due to their uneasiness and the situations of Monk’s job; Saylor doesn’t like the fact that she won’t know where he is or that he’s in constant danger of being killed on the job. Getting over their problems is a huge. There is a HEA and no cliff-hanger.
I received this ARC for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.
Monk's Fire is told in a series of flashbacks from Razor's, Gunner's, Mantis', Dutch's and Strikers stories. Monk and Saylor first met when he was on Ava's protective detail. It was instant chemistry and with no strings attached per each other's requests. Funny how things work out though because there ended up being lots of strings.
We haven't learned much about Monk up to this point in the K19 series except that he's a man of very few words and he's an excellent chef. Saylor, Razor's sister, is a divorced single mother of two charming girl's. She was deeply hurt by her ex and has sworn off relationships. Monk has a storied past that made him into the man he is: loyal, trustworthy, protective and a loner. These two can't seem to ger it right with their on again, off again relationship. Events separate and reunite them but underneath it all there is love though they're both loathe to admit it. Two things happen that finally get them both to see that they're made for each other long term. One; a colleague who nearly lost his life declares to Monk that he's not putting anything off anymore. He'll embeace life to the fullest because you never know when your life may end. Second; Saylor's ex becomes a lethal threat and must be taken handled. When it becomes a life and death situation, clarity about what matters in life has her going for what she wants and needs....Monk.
They appear to be opposites, who definitely attract, but deep down they are more alike than anyone knows. Saylor usually talks enough for everybody, but with Monk she doesn't feel the need to fill the silence, she feels comfortable and safe with him...which in turn terrifies her. She lost control of her life once, she swore never again, so she keeps part of her life hidden from Monk, not sure why she thinks this is ever a good idea - you want to shake some sense into her. Monk has done nothing but be supportive, caring, encouraging and loving...so she is acting like a crazy lady and it obviously comes back to bite her in the ass! This book is far more emotion based rather than action based compared to the others in the series, not a bad thing, just an observation! There is a lot of crossover here with Strikers book, a lot of scenes repeated but from Monk's perspective rather than Strikers. Whilst this book felt a little different to the others in the series I did enjoy it and I am thrilled that book 10 will be Onyx! I read this on Kindle Unlimited
The K19 series is a series about operators who help protect the U.S. citizens and their country in anyway they can. They are the men and women who are family to each other in their quest. Every person deserves someone to love even when they feel they don't deserve it or their past relationships have harden their hearts. Monk and Saylor belong together, Saylor's ex-husband left his mark on her and she doesn't want anything to get in the way of raising her kids. Then Monk comes along, can she find love again? I recommend this book.
Monk is not a talker, in every situation, there's a reason for that. Saylor likes what she sees right off the bat, but only wants casual, she's too afraid to want anything more. Lots of interaction with other stories if you had read other K19 books, you won't get lost if you haven't read them, but it helps if you have. "We're meant to be together, and we will be." You can only make the decisions based on that moment, lots of grief if you can't get past those decisions. Definitely a feel good read. Totally recommend.
Monk and Saylor. Monk is up there as a top favorite for this series. I love his reactions and loyalty and just rightness. Saylor is amazing with her role as a sister, mother, daughter, friend and now lover. I was confused by some of the communication things, but also loved how they clicked and knew it. The Onyx scenes and the Razor scenes were some of my favorites, especially since we got to see different POV of scenes from other books. A sweet ending and some interesting new characters. Ready for the next book!
This is another great Story. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next one. Razor's sister has trauma from her marriage and wants nothing to do with a man or a relationship. Then Monk appears as part of her brother's organization and both feel something but they run away from it. After some time has past the feelings do not go away and they reconnect for a fling. Communication between them is in short supply and it doesn't take much to separate them. They cannot stay away from each other.
Great continuation of the K19 story. Really liked Monk's story a lot. Read it in one sitting. I had to, could not go to bed not knowing what happened next. Glad I finished it too. Every story that I have read so far, has had just the right amount of what I like to reading a story, especially in a series. Each flows seamlessly into the next, that is just what I am going to do.
Although some people may disagree, Monk is my all time book boyfriend from Heather Slade. Monk is one of those he only speaks when it is worth speaking. He doesn’t really do small talk or say things that aren’t necessary. So when he does speak, it’s important and worth paying attention to. He’s also loyal and a big teddy bear even when people find him completely intimidating. I reread his book often because he’s a type of man you dream of. He supports and listens. He challenges you. Saylor is perfect for him. She’s strong willed and a great mama to two adorable angels. She has a bit of a dark past with her first husband that puts Monk at arms length. He tries so hard to break through her walls tho. And he fiercely loves her girls. Trust me you won’t be disappointed with Monk.
I couldn't wait for Monk's story, I had an idea that he was going to be a very interesting character and it was do worth the wait. I love how the audios go back to each person's pov at a certain time. The books somewhat overlap in timing and it is interesting to see each person's view in their own book because it fills in the background more. I highly suggest this series. After I finish one I can't wait to start the next!
Another really good book in the series. Monk is a quiet guy who hardly speaks. He keeps his own council and only really contributes when he has something real to say. His reasons are deep but there is someone who opens his heart and makes him find his voice.
Monk is basically the continued story of Monk and Saylor. Their relationship starts in Mistletoe and takes place over at least two years. Overall it's a great story but I wished we seen more of them together than apart. Happy Reading!
I get that their relationship was ongoing during the first books in the series, but that doesn't justify so much of this book retelling the earlier stories. I never felt that Saylor and Monk were front and center in their own book.
Another great book in this series with great characters and story lines that keep you interest until the very end. Each book can be read separately but I would recommend reading them in order to get the full story. Looking forward to more from this author
Although, I liked finally getting to read Saylor and Monks story, there was too much repeat of precious stories. Many of the middle chapters was what we w read already. The chapters that weren’t were not distinguished between who was speaking like previous books as well.
Monk is the silent alpha who follows every instruction to the last detail. He's dangerous, proficient in weapons and undoubtedly trustworthy. Saylor is a young mother of two who is trying to heal from an abusive relationship that has been thrown into an explosive situation and needs the help of her brother's K19 Security Solutions company to keep her safe.
One problem... the man assigned to her security might just be the worst choice for her heart. This story will engage you by creating a story dealing with a military sense of honor coupled with a sweet love story. The characters are all strong both male and female. They are trying to right the wrongs of the world while still maintaining a sense of family and normal life.
However, can Saylor save Monk from himself. You'll learn of their road blocks to happiness. Witness tragedy and experience the strength of friendship under fire.
You will look forward to each turning page and hope for a HEA. Each character introduced plays a role in other parts of this series; however, you can read this release as a stand-a-lone. I'd suggest you give this new to me author a try. Her stories have an underlying depth of understanding of emotional problems that we all may deal with; creates strong bonds of friendships and then turns the story with steamy intimate moments peppered in.
This is another great book that draws you in and keeps you engaged until you turn that last page I always know that I need to start a Heather Slade book early in the day because I won't stop reading until I turn that last page and I am getting way to old to read into the early hours of the morning This book was no exception to that rule While each book in this series is a stand alone there are many cross over charactersso do yourself a afavoutr and read them in order as you will go back and read them all anyway so you may as well start at one and progress
This is Saylor and Monks story. She is a single m,other of two children who has found herself in danger so who would she turn to but her brother and his security comapny She has suffered at the hands of her abusive ex and now she is teying to chart a new path in Life Rhys “Monk” Perrin is the darkest of the dark as far as operatives for K19 security he always completes any task given to him and never questions an order After all he has no soul left after what he has seen and done over the years. When he is tasked with the security of Saylor it isn't sure how to handle it she brings out is protective side and she finds his gentleness a total draw but these are two damaged people who are both trying to find a future Could that future be together You will have to read to see
This is book 7 in the K19 Security Solutions series and it features Rhys “Monk” Perrin and Saylor Davis, who is Razor’s sister. There was an instant attraction between these two. It was as if they could read each others minds and we’re on the same wavelength. Monk’s lack of verbal communication, talking only when he had something important to say, was surprisingly sexy. Neither wants a relationship. She’s a single mom with two young daughters, with an ex-husband in prison. His career doesn’t allow him that freedom but whenever they’re in each others orbit, they spend “time” together. What could be more perfect! The more time you spend with someone, the more time you want. That perfectness turns into not enough and EVERYTHING gets messed up! I
I really like that this is not an insta-love story. This entire romance happened over a period of two years. I love that we have a sort of behind-the-scenes, more detailed, telling of the events of a previous story. Monk’s character development was like watching a flower bloom and seeing the walls fall from around Saylor’s heart was beautiful. I do wish Cliff had played a much bigger part in this story line though. Regardless, this is a highly entertaining, extremely sexy romance and I cannot wait for more!
Full Disclosure: I stayed up way too late to finish this because I couldn't put it down. I LOVE Heather Slade's stories. The characters are real, the relationship has obstacles (often put there by the characters themselves) and the characters get an HEA at the end. There is also always a good suspense entangled and there are things going on that you don't expect.
This story is no exception. I'd read them in order so you get all the backstory but you will be able to start here. Of course then you'll go back and get the backstory so it's up to you where you start. Monk and Saylor are perfect for each other but baggage from their pasts is a burden on both sides. There is suspense and you'll race to finish so you can get to the HEA. I was just going to read a couple of chapters when I started but here I am, sleep deprived but satisfied with the story. It's always nice when you end with a sigh. The characters feel real. You'll be cheering them on (when you don't want to hit them upside the head) and the action is non-stop. You've been warned: start this early because my few chapters ended with "the end". (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
Monk and Saylor don't have a lot in common outside of their intense physical attraction, but over time their no-strings hookups turn into something a lot deeper, and that's when all the trouble starts.
Monk may be a man of few words, but their communication problem is not entirely one-sided. Saylor is still trying to figure out what she wants, and her unwillingness to share her plans with Monk was extremely frustrating at times.
Their story is told over the previous two years of K19 activities, so it references events from their POVs that happened during the previous books in the series, starting with Razor's all the way through to where we left off with Striker's. It's a standalone romance, but those who have been following the series all along will recognize the people and events as they related to Monk and Saylor.
Between his job with K19, her career, and her family situation, theirs is a complicated romance, but one that ultimately has a satisfying HEA. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
