Teens are being bombarded with porn and sex everywhere they turn. 93% of boys and 62% of girls first see porn before they turn 18. With smartphones everywhere, this is no surprise. What is a surprise is how little the church talks about porn and when they do, how unhelpful it often is.
Messages of "stop it" and "it's bad" heap on shame and fail to get to the root of the issue. Needed Navigation is a hope and grace-based approach for teens looking to navigate these difficult issues. Whether you're caught deep in the addiction, or you want to make sure you never are, this guide is for you. It's also for teens who want to be a safe person for their friends to come to for help.
Author and Pastor Noah Filipiak shares from his own struggle with pornography as a teen and an adult, modeling the grace and vulnerability every teen needs to find freedom from these sins that can master the best of us.
Needed Navigation goes deeper than surface-level symptoms and offers a guide to every teen guy and girl's identity in Christ. It looks at the desires beneath our desires and how only the love of Jesus can truly satisfy us and change our hearts.
Small group questions are included inside the book.

A Must Read for Parents, Teens, Youth Pastors, Pastors and Church Leadership Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2024 I was saved or born again 12 years ago at age 42. While not a teenager at the time, my testimony includes nearly three decades of porn addiction. As one who is redeemed by Christ and has been healed and delivered from the grasp of porn addiction, my heart goes out to all who struggle with this insidious addiction. Sadly, Satan is using porn to warp many hearts and minds, both young and old. With today's easy access to online porn, children are the most targeted, and the statistics prove that it's not a matter of if a child will see porn but when.
In the last several years, I have read extensively about how to end porn in the church, where the problem is highly prevalent according to numerous studies. Thankfully, many books are being written today, providing insight into how porn begins, its impact on our brain chemistry, our spirituality, and our loved ones. However, I had not found much literature addressing the biggest and most susceptible targets—children and teenagers—and written specifically for teens.
That's my long intro to say Noah Filipiak, in my assessment, has accomplished writing a much-needed book, written for teens, but in my opinion, every Parent, Youth Pastor, Pastor, and Church leader should read it.
To combat and overcome porn, we must first understand it, at its root cause(s). It's not as simple as telling someone to "stop it." This requires the Holy Spirit, prayer, God's Word, and the community of a church to help break the cycle of sexual immorality that is devastating so many lives.
Church, we need to stop treating porn (or any sexual sin) as an issue not to be discussed. We must understand the problem so that we can best walk alongside people as Christians should. The church needs to be the church.
For teenagers, Needed Navigation will help you understand you are not alone, and as the subtitle states, guide you to finding your identity in Christ in a sex and porn-filled world—a world that is telling you lies.
Read this book and take the practical steps offered that will lead you to freedom. Again, I say this as someone who knows; I've been where you are, and today, by God's grace, I am free from porn.
Thank you, Noah, for writing a must-read and critical book.
A very good navigation tool and guide for teenage men and women. It sets a foundational view of porn that helps those who are currently struggling with it and those who aren't struggling, but want to develop a healthy biblical perspective on porn use. Also good for parents and youth leaders to read as you help your teenagers navigate our porn filled world.
I appreciate that he gets to the root causes, practical advice on how to overcome a porn addiction, alleviates shame--especially for girls, provides small group discussion questions, and he keeps it at an easy 80 page read. Some may have disagreements with his last section, but I respect that he humbly provides his opinions instead of leaving teens in the dark without any guidance.
A great resource for Christian teens to navigate the sex and porn-filled world they are saturated in. It's only around 80 pages of reading and very approachable for a teen guy or girl.
