I read Tolkien and Hobb. I read Robert Jordan and Will Wight. I read all those classic fantasy books and when there was nothing left to read, I wrote my own stories, the ones I wanted to read but couldn't find.
I love epic fantasy. The battles, the creatures, the riveting stories and sweeping worlds. But I love the characters just as much. I love the intrigue, the politics, the strategy and the philosophy behind the magic systems. I love imaginary worlds that make sense, and I love characters that think logically.
I love exploring the depths of the warrior mindset. I love the emotions that life-changing events bring about, and if I can make my readers feel all those things, then that is what I most love about writing.
I hope you will read my stories and enjoy them, and if you do, I would love to hear from you.
Strap yourself in and hold on tight, it's one helluva ride. Immerse yourself in the second world of Naz’arán as Ortalan and his patrol return to the ruined Plains of Arlysia and Fort Arlys to rescue their comrades from the clutches of the ruthless demigod. New allies are made along the way, as they meet up with the Elven Alliance.
Follow Onara on her quest to help Talanor find himself as well as trying to heal the suffering of his mother.
Will the rescue succeed? Can Onara, with the help of Benzir, prepare this beautiful child and the broken Llyniel for the reunion that Fel’annár has dreaded for so long?
So come along for the ride. There’s adventure, action, humor, romance, and maybe even redemption. You won't regret this read word-smithed by the amazing R.K. Lander.
Return of the Shirán weaves the journey of service to the Gods with such deep reflection. The story within the story of love in all its forms, of sacrifice, of faith succeeding and of bonds that endure brought about the moments that made me shudder with the depth the emotions I felt. The magic in weaving worlds that leave you wanting more is just as skilfully crafted with the desire to know more about The Company, the original Silvan Characters and all those who were worthy of becoming Shirán in the first place. Fel continues to walk a path that attracts the best of those around him.
I would give this book 3 and a half stars. It was quite hard to read with the angst, bitterness and bad language that were spread through all the chapters. It was only in the last few chapters that I felt it was the story I had expected it to be. I ended up being able to read only one chapter at a time, so that I wasn't overwhelmed by the awfulness being felt by some of the characters. There were several proof-reading issues as well.
Elven Worlds #3. This is also part of "The Sylvan" series which was 6 books, so it could be considered #9 if one is inclined. Book 4 is supposed to be published in 2025. I'm rating this one 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
The war between the revenants and the elven/human alliance continues. Feldar, once Fel’annár, is still learning to come to grips with that certain terrible event that I won't mention. If you've read the previous books, particularly the last two, you'll know what I'm referencing. Llyniel and Talanor are also struggling to heal from that event, ironically Llyniel more so than Talanor. Benzir and Onara both work with these two through much of the story.
You could probably tell from the paragraph above that this one mainly deals with character development rather than the war. There's a brief skirmish or battle, (or two), but they weren't the central focus. The predominant themes are grief, guilt, fear, friendship, family and loyalty. The best section was at the 98% mark; that was a long time coming!
Oh, and I need to mention the map before I forget. This book has a really beautiful map. I love those for some reason.
I'll be reading the next book in the series when it's published.
There are lots of fantasy books but there are few that reach the standard of excellence Ms. Landers has achieved. Her books are super, she is a great world builder and takes fictional characters and makes them seem very real. She covers complex concepts like PTSD with skill and empathy. I find myself not being able to put her books down because I want to find out how the cliffhangers will end. I also find myself being over anxious waiting for the next book or series to hit the streets. Ms. Landers develops characters that readers fall in love with and become personally invested in their welfare. Her writing can bring tears to a reader's eyes at the turmoil her characters experience and then make the reader laugh at the subtle humor woven into her story. I give her the highest Kudos possible.
I was looking forward to Return of the Shirán, third in the Elven Worlds series, ever since I read the previous book, Flight of the Shirán, because I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next in the story. I was not disappointed, it was worth the wait. The author takes her readers on another action packed adventures. This book continues the story of the protagonists and their quest to free their friends from captivity and neutralize the growing revenant threat. Loyalties will be tested and sacrifices become necessary as they face treachery and fight against an enemy that grows ever stronger. A immensely enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book to any readers that love fantasy.
I love the combination of emotions that weave their way into my very soul though the heartbreak is almost too much to bare. I am so grateful that I can close the book until I feel ready to face the next part of action, adventure, and emotions that make this a book to be read time and again.
We all need hero’s in our lives to help and guide us. Sometime the hero’s need our help to overcome some of the challenges they faced for us. Truly a story of love.
Friends and warriors combine to save their captured comrades in a prisoner exchange turned trap. Souls released and reunited after centuries. Leaders fail and new ones rise. Final resolution as family unites. Great ending.
I’ve read the entire series, including the one before this one. This will always be among my favorite books. I’m hoping the story continues but in a way. I’m glad it ended when it did a beautiful love story for the ages.
One thing about this author is that each book feels complete with no cliff hangers. It is greatly appreciated. In general, each book is balanced with equal or close to equal parts, happy and sad.
