4,5⭐️! Dieses Buch hat beim Lesen einfach SO VIEL Spaß gemacht. Fake Dating + Haters to lovers ergibt hier eine knisternde Spannung zwischen den Protagonisten, die sich in Schlagabtauschen ausdrückt. Ich habe die Dynamik zwischen den beiden geliebt und mich stets auf die nächste Szene gefreut. Dadurch wurde dann auch die Sogwirkung ausgelöst - es wird kurzweilig erzählt, man kann das Buch super schnell durchlesen. Hervorheben möchte ich dabei auch den lockeren Ton mit hurmovollen Momenten, den ich besonders geliebt habe. Gleichzeitig gab es emotionale Momente, wo die Geschichte an Tiefe hinzugewonnen hat. Auch wenn ich es befürworte, wenn Charaktere Fehler machen - das sollen + dürfen sie nämlich-, hätte ich mir gegen Ende noch etwas mehr Charakterentwicklung von der Protagonistin gewünscht. Im Buch gibt es eine Nebenhandlung mit Fehlkommunikation, bei der ich Athalias Gründe fürs Schweigen nicht nachvollziehen konnte. Das ist aber weniger ein Kritikpunkt - insgesamt mochte ich es gerne🥰!

Gott sei dank hat Selina Mae sich dazu entschieden ihre Geschichten zu veröffentlichen. Ich hatte die beste Lesezeit, wenn es nach mir gehen würde hätte die Geschichte niemals enden können. Dylan McCarthy Williams - du bist ab sofort auf meiner Book Boyfriend Liste.
Für mich war die Geschichte definitiv ein NA Romance Highlight. 💗

Obwohl die Autorin deutsch ist, habe mich dazu entschieden das Buch in der englischen Version zu lesen, da sie das Buch ursprünglich auf englisch geschrieben hatte und es anschließend übersetzt wurde 🇬🇧

Das Buch hat mir so gut gefallen! Es war süß, locker leicht geschrieben, humorvoll und hatte alles was ich bei Romance liebe. Die Figuren waren toll und ich hab die Dynamik zwischen jeden einzelnen von ihnen so gemacht. Hätte ich die Zeit gehabt, hätte ich das Buch gern in einem Rutsch durch gelesen. McCarthy ist ein echter Bookboyfriend. Ein Romance- Highlight für mich.

Heute möchte ich über ein Buch sprechen, das mich total überrascht hat. Tatsächlich wollte ich „Lessons in Faking“ ursprünglich gar nicht lesen. Als es aber dann so gehypt wurde, wollte ich mir die Geschichte doch noch mal etwas genauer angucken.
Und darüber bin ich total
froh. 🥰
Athalia will endlich wieder gesehen werden. Seit dem Tod ihrer Eltern ist das Verhältnis zu ihrem Bruder sehr sporadisch und nicht besonders eng. Seine Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen ist für sie jedoch unglaublich schwer.
Doch eines Tages hat sie eine Idee für einen Plan, wie sie ihren Bruder nicht mehr so egal sein kann: Athalia bittet Dylan McCarthy - Fußballer, unglaublich hot und der Erzfeind ihres Bruders - eine Fake Beziehung mit ihr einzugehen und Dylan willigt tatsächlich ein, obwohl die beiden sich eigentlich überhaupt nicht ausstehen können.
Doch echte tiefe Gefühle? Das war nie geplant …
Als Erstes war der Einstieg in die Geschichte schon super! Wir starten sofort im Geschehen und sind mitten drin. Die enemies oder auch haters to lovers vibes zwischen Athalia und Dylan sind von Anfang an da. Sie streiten sich, haben intensive Wortgefechte und man müsste meinen, dass eine Fake Beziehung zwischen ihnen eigentlich gar nicht möglich ist.
Die Charaktere sind insgesamt sehr lebendig, mit vielen Konversationen und ich fand es wirklich toll, wie der Fokus ganz klar auf den Protagonisten und ihren Gesprächen lag.
Der Schreibstil war durch seine flüssige und leichte Art auch einfach nur toll. Die Geschichte hat sich nicht an einer Stelle gezogen und ich fand es ebenfalls sehr angenehm, dass die Kapitel oft nicht so lang waren. Und für die Liebesgeschichte fällt mir nur ein Wort ein: wunderschööön! ❤️
Zusammengefasst ist dieses Buch ein großes Highlight in diesem Jahr! Ich kann gar nicht sagen, wie sehr ich mich auf Band zwei und drei freue. 😍

Ich kann einfach nur sagen: ein rundum tolles & schönes Buch, was sooooo viel Spaß gemacht hat zu lesen! 🥹
Nachdem ich dieses Buch so oft auf Insta gesehen habe, wollte ich es unbedingt lesen und habe es DURCHGESUCHTET!

i end it up finishing yesterday night!
this book was cute, fun but there was a lack of sparkle, especially in the first part where i find hard to connect with the story and wasn't too captured by it.
the whole story isn't bad, it's a classic romance with cute and giggling moments.
The book proved to be perfect for accompanying moments of relaxation. However, if I focused only on the couple formed by Athalia and Dylan, my judgment would undoubtedly be much more positive. Both characters fascinated me, but Dylan in particular stands out as a charismatic and irresistible protagonist, capable of winning sympathy naturally. Dylan is like the part the i love the most about this book. Athalia, i like her but i don't feel too much connected to her and i find her sometimes a bit annyoing. it's not her fault but i think the author didn't really explore her character and she didn't give her too much complexity.
Athalia, if we're being honest, embodies everything "y/n" stands for — self-absorbed, always spinning the victim narrative, not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, and absolutely dreadful when it comes to making decisions. And yet, she had the nerve to demand an apology from Wren. Seriously? Wren, who, as far as I could see, did nothing wrong except express genuine (albeit slightly overbearing) concern? The audacity was mind-boggling. i know this sound so mean to say but i like her on surface level but as a character all alone def have some problems.
And let’s talk about that confession from Wren—where did that even come from? It hit like a trainwreck out of nowhere, blindsiding everyone. It could’ve been such a pivotal moment, but instead, it was handled with all the finesse of a bull in a china shop. Truly disappointing.
That said, I cannot hide a slight dissatisfaction with some elements of the narrative structure. I would have liked the story to include a few more punchy twists, perhaps a more pronounced point of tension or that typical dramatic crisis that in romances keeps the reader on his toes. That moment when everything seems to come crashing down, prompting you to hold your breath despite the certainty of an inevitable happy ending. Such a development would certainly have lent more dynamism and emotional involvement to the plot.
On the enemies-to-lovers theme front, I must admit that I did not find it particularly well executed. There was a lack of solid and consistent motivation behind the antagonism between the two protagonists, which made it a bit contrived and less convincing than expected.
conclusion
Initially, the story had a shaky beginning, and I found myself doubting. However, I stuck around solely for the romance and chemistry between Athalia and McCarthy. Chapter 22 was phenomenal, delivering a powerful punch! the second half was way much more better than the first part. Despite this, the rest of the book felt underwhelming. I still don’t understand why they "hate" each other or what prompted this whole situation in the first place—it simply wasn't that interesting. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my overall reading experience.

rationalising my thoughts on this one is so complicated to me because it was actually not very good. but why was it also kinda fun??
i recently found out this was originally a wattpad story. and let me tell you something… it did show.
was that so bad though? no.
no, actually, it was quite fun.
look, i never thought i‘d ever say this, but it was nice to have this nostalgic feeling of being 13 years old reading the most embarassing weird freaky stories written by kids barely older than yourself.
my main issue however was the writing. you know when people discover a new word and then (over)use it for like 10 days and then forget it? yeah that was this book. there were word repetitions of the most random words for 4 pages straight and then they are not mentioned ever again.
also some sentences felt overcomplicated and just unmelodic in general. i‘d like to know who proof-read this?
so the protagonists go on fake dates together. why, you may be wondering? well. to annoy the fmc‘s brother. because apparently, he doesn‘t give her enough attention. so naturally, the absolutely valid solution for this problem would be to go out with your brother‘s arch nemesis.
never mind the fact athalia‘s brother ignores her even more after she starts dating his so-called enemy.
the fake dating thing did not make sense at all. once we‘re 100 pages into the story henry (the brother) loses all imortance and is barely even mentioned.
i almost felt sorry for him. but then again, henry was kind of toxic because he was so controlling of athalia. at least he apologised. athalia herself treated him like shit too, and also her allegedly best friend wren who did nothing wrong. they had such a stupid argument.
even though their college life was depicted in a pretty detailed matter, it felt more like a highschool romance from the way the protagonists acted.
i don‘t know, really. this was so silly, and sure, it did have its cringeworthy scenes. but it was also weirdly addictive.

honestly, she‘s such a mess for like 90% of the book and half of the time a drunk one at that. and you know what? i love her for that.

he has dimples and blushes easily and giggles when he finds something funny. he has four sisters and is the only one of them who knows how to cook. he loves to cook for athalia and he always makes sure she eats.
i do not need anything more from the love interest.

yes athalia is such a wattpad core name for a female protagonist. and she was also kind of a pick-me, and unbelievably petty and selfish. but whatever, i had the time of my life reading from her perspective.
honestly, she‘s such a mess for like 90% of the book and half of the time a drunk one at that. and you know what? i love her for that.

[ARC review] When I was reading this book, I kept thinking: there's something about the vibe of this book that is just so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Then I found out that it was originally a Wattpad book and suddenly the way the characters and the plot was written made perfect sense.
This book is the definition of Wattpad core. Just to clarify, I'm not hating on Wattpad. I myself spend way too much time on Wattpad. That said, I think I would have enjoyed myself way more if I had adjusted my expectations. For instance, the half-baked faking-dating plot. The whole reason for the fake dating scheme was very flimsy. She wanted her twin-brother's attention and she decided by dating his teammate and arch nemesis, he would finally care about her enough to pull his head out of his ass. But alas, her brother was only mentions a handful of times, which made their faking-dating plan very redundant.
Also can we just stop and appreciate how Wattpad core the names of the characters are. Athalia. Wren Inkwood. On the topic of names, I would like to point out that throughout the entire novel, the fmc exclusively called the mmc by his last name. I get that he's a sports guy and everybody calls him by his last name, but I think the author missed an opportunity to add a layer of intimacy to their relationship by only using last names. That was one of my biggest problems with this book. It kept things almost detached and this book desperately needed more intimacy.
Despite all that, this book was FUN. It was giving Wattpad left and right but that wasn't a bad thing. The writing was easy to digest and I was able to turn off my brain and just enjoy it.

i liked the general idea of the book and the whole faking dating plot. however, some details just didn’t make sense.
mmc is from the female character brother rival’s team. both characters got together to make this brother angry since apparently both main characters hated him.
throughout the book, as they fake dated, brother was mentioned at most 3 times. it felt like this dating thing was just out of nowhere. also i could not figure out the final goal to this “dating”. they just decided to fake date?🤷♀️
the writing though was pretty great. the dialogues and scenes were clear, natural and student real. i’ve enjoyed the main female character but had difficult time liking mmc.

i was not a big fan of the strong cliches starting right off the bat at the beginning of the book, it gave me a hard time while i was getting through the first couple chapter. however as i kept reading i found myself more and more pulled into the story.
the first chapter felt a bit like jumping in during the middle of a thought though as the chapter progressed i found myself more situated within the story. i was also not a fan of athalia’s brother, henry, which contributed with my slowness in reading the beginning. i understand that the frustration with his characters especially with athalia’s perspective was the one main point of the story so that’s more my preference.
the plot of the book itself was interesting, it found a way to link personal relationships into academics and i found the blend between the two to be done really well. academics were a continuous plot point even as it progressed with the main characters’ relationship and athalia’s relationship, or lack thereof, with her brother.

⤿ athalia - i honestly really felt for her as i got to know her and her dynamic with and feelings towards henry. i wasn’t a fan of how dylan threw jabs at her because of her upbringing when they were both rich and also knowing her opinion of herself and how she saw her brother perceive her did not help his case but it also allowed for growth within their relationship when he realized. i found it hard to like her in the first maybe three or four chapters but when i started seeing more of her character/personality that quickly changed.
⤿ dylan - i wasn’t his biggest fan either, his character felt a bit self-righteous at least in his interactions with the fmc at the beginning when like also he barely knew her. i honestly wish we also were able to read chapters from his perspective cause i believe it would have added a lot to the story, that being said his character and feelings were well portrayed by athalia’s sole perspective. i enjoyed reading about him and his interactions with athalia.

i liked this book, i was intrigued by the plot and characters and was very entertained once i pushed past my initial reluctance.

1,5 von 5 Sternen – Eine überaus nervige Geschichte
Das Buch Lessons in Faking von Selina Mae habe ich eigentlich nur gekauft, weil ich es mit Farbschnitt in meiner lokalen Buchhandlung gefunden hab. Gut, das Cover hat auch geholfen, das mag ich nämlich echt gerne. Wegen der Geschichte an sich hätte ich es nicht gekauft, aber das liegt hauptsächlich daran, wie erschreckend straight sie ist.
Dieses Buch war mal, so habe ich es mir sagen lassen, eine Dramione Fanfiction auf Wattpad und ja, das merkt man. Ja, das meine ich im negativen Sinn. Auch ohne direkte körperliche Vergleiche auf ihre ursprünglichen Charaktere, kann man diesem Buch nur ansehen, dass es mal eine Fanfic war. Das fängt mit der leider fehlenden Charakterisierung an und hört mit den absolut klischeehaften Tropes auf, die in jede Seite gequetscht wurde.
Lessons in Faking geht um Hermine und Draco – oh, natürlich um Athalia und Dylan, die sich gar nicht ausstehen können, aber jetzt fake daten, damit Athalia ihren Zwillingsbruder Henry zu bringen kann, sich wieder für sie zu interessieren, denn auch er hasst Dylan wie die Pest. Wieso? Girl, i dont know. Allgemein sind die Gründe, wieso Charaktere Dinge tun hier nicht wirklich ersichtlich. Anfänglich war das Buch nicht wirklich schlecht – ich hab die ersten 50 Seiten sogar genossen. Sie waren nicht weltbewegend oder so, aber ich konnte es gut lesen und habe mich nicht gelangweilt. Das muss für etwas gelten, oder?
Tja. Es hat nicht lange gehalten. Am Anfang war es bereits sehr deutlich, dass dieses Buch mal eine Fanfic war, denn die Charaktere wurden so gut wie überhaupt nicht ausgebaut. Es gab kaum interessante Konflikte, kaum interessante Handlungen, heck, es gab nicht mal interessante Dialoge. Alles las sich sehr Fanfic. Oberflächlich, möchte ich fast schon sagen, was Blaspehmie nahekommt, denn ich selbst bin großer Fanfic Enjoyer. Ich schreibe ja auch selbst welche! Aber ich maße mir an, dass ich nicht nur Dinge nehme, die schon existieren und sie mit einem Trope kombiniere. Dieses Buch allerdings… uff. Es ist nur eine Liste von Tropes, die auf zwei Charaktere geworfen wurden und dann hat man die Grütze, die am Ende beirumkam als Story verkauft.
Die Hauptcharaktere sind absolut langweilig, eindimensional und extrem nervig. Noch dazu ist Athalia extrem dumm, was sie nur noch nerviger macht. Eine enemies-to-lovers-fake-dating-Story sollte eigentlich richtig schön viel Tension und Character Development haben, aber leider hatten wir hier gar nichts, weil es weder enemies to lovers noch fake dating war. Ein Teil der enemies (Dylas, oh Wunder) war nämlich schon immer verliebt und das fake dating ist nur so lange fake, wie die beiden ihren dämlichen Vertrag erstellt haben. Das Buch beginnt also damit, dass Athalia sich an ihrem Bruder rächen will, weil er ihr nur dann Aufmerksamkeit schenkt, wenn sie nervig ist und endet damit, dass Athalia immer noch nervig ist und alle um sie herum sich bei ihr für irgendwas entschuldigen?
Ich mochte es leider gar nicht. Nicht nur, dass die Handlung nur durch Tropes vorangeführt wurde, die man schon dutzende Male gelesen hat, sie waren auch noch absolut langweilig umgesetzt. Mir fehlte einfach die Kreativität. Natürlich habe ich kein Meisterwerk erwartet, aber dafür dass das Buch auf Social Media so beliebt ist, habe ich einfach mehr als drei Tropes in einem Trenchcoat erwartet. Wo ist mein Yearning? Wo ist mein slowly falling in love with the guy youre supposed to hate???
Es gab einfach nichts, was dieses Buch irgendwie gut gemacht hat, wenn man mal vom Cover absieht. Der Hauptcharakter ist nervtötend und strohdumm, ihr Loveinterest ist ein langweiliger Dude mit Muskeln und Grübchen und der restliche Cast hat sowieso keinen Charakter. Außerdem – wenn ich noch ein einziges Mal den vollen Namen des Loveinterest lesen muss, dann fliegt irgendwas durch die Gegend. Athalia nennt ihr sowieso die ganze Zeit nur bei einem seiner Nachnamen, aber manchmal in Gedanken kommt sein voller Name hinzu und es hat mich soooooo sehr abgefuckt. Was ist McCarthy überhaupt für ein unpassender Name, um ihn ständig wie eine Beleidigung zu nutzen? Was ist Dylan McCarthy Williams überhaupt für ein bescheuerter Name, um ihn alle zwei Seiten ganz zu nutzen?
Genauso bescheuert, wie der Name vom Hauptcharakter. Athalia? Echt jetzt? Sind wir in Narnia oder was? Jeder andere Charaktere – ihrem scheiß Zwillingsbruder eingeschlossen – hat einen normalen, englischen Vornamen, aber sie muss so specialig heißen?? Was haben sich ihre dummen, toten Eltern dabei gedacht? Die haben Zwillinge, meine Fresse. Der Junge kommt auf die Welt und sie denken sich „ja, geil, der sieht aus wie ein Henry“ und dann zwölf Minuten später kommt ein Mädchen und sie nennen sie ATHALIA??? Entweder sie haben sie direkt gehasst, oder einfach bevorzugt, eine andere Erklärung gibt es nicht. Kein Wunder dass ihr Bruder die ganze Zeit so ein Arschloch war. Wäre ich auch, wenn meine Schwester wie ein Fantasy-Charakter heißen würde, also echt.
Wo wir schon bei ihrem Bruder sind – der Bruder soll offensichtlich Harry darstellen, denn er hat auch zwei beste Freunde namens Ruben und Heather, aber wie unnötig ist das bitte? Warum gibt es zwei Hermines? Warum ist dieses Buch so unnötig? Warum rege ich mich überhaupt darüber auf? Weiß ich auch nicht so genau. Ihr Bruder war einfach nur nervtötend und ätzend. Er hat die ganze Zeit rumgeheult und so getan, als wäre es das schlimmste auf der Welt, dass Dylan in seiner Nähe atmet und am Ende hat er ein (1) Gespräch mit einer Therapeutin und alles ist wieder gut??? Plötzlich hält er Monologe darüber, wie sehr es ihm leid tut, dass er A mit B beantwortet hat und *hier bitte Therapie-Begriffe einfügen* getan hat. Bitte?? So redet doch keiner. Warum sollte er sowas überhaupt sagen?
Man. Als wäre das nicht schlimm genug, haben wir auch noch secretley gay best friend who is in love with the obnoxious main character trope hier drin, der auch alles andere als gut umgesetzt wurde. Der Trope an sich ist ja schon ätzo, aber das war schon echt n starkes Stück. Athalias beste Freundin Wren kommt nämlich random auf die Idee, Athalia auszugrenzen, weil diese jetzt mit Dylan ausgeht, weil Wren ist ganz doll in sie verliebt :< Aber dann sehen sie sich zwei Wochen nicht und reden einmal miteinander und plötzlich ist sie über sie hinweg? Weil? Gründe?? Wofür überhaupt einführen, wenn es keinen Mehrwert hat!!! Unnötiges Drama kann man auch anders erstellen – zum Beispiel in dem man Dylan 20 Seiten vor Ende einen Unfall haben lässt.
Bruh, ja, das kam auch vor. Die beiden haben das erste Mal richtig Sex – was natürlich perfekt und toll und soweiter ist und sie kommt gefühlt 200 Mal, auch wenn das mega unrealistisch ist, aber was solls – und dann bekommt Dylan eins auf die Fresse und ist im Krankenhaus. Wie unnötig bitte. Noch dazu hat die Autorin keine Ahnung davon, wie Menschen sich benehmen, wenn sie unter Medikamenteneinfluss stehen and it fucking shows.
Dann noch der Cringe. Oh, der cringe, meine Freunde, er war so schlimm. Von vollen Namen alle zwei Seiten zu dummen Spitznamen wie Prinzessin, nennt er sie auch noch ständig Good Girl, worauf sie richtig abfährt, als wäre sie eine diese tiktok buchliebhaber, die nur lesen, wenn 30 sexszenen enthalten sind, dann hat sie natürlich den besten Sex und den besten Orgasmus ihres Lebens, weil er sie mit seinen perfekten Händen und Abs und Grübchen und Haaren und seinem riesengroßen Schlong einmal berührt hat. Ja, selbstverständlich ist Dylan extrem muskulös und hat tolle Haare und Grübchen und ein Six-Pack und einen dicken Brummer in der Hose, wie sonst sollte man einen Mann mögen, wenn er nicht hot ist? An seiner Persönlichkeit kanns schon mal nicht liegen, die ist nämlich kaum vorhanden. Er ist einfach nur der nervige hotte bad boy archetyp, der immer flotte Sprüche auf Lager hat, aber eigentlich ja voll in das MainGirl verknallt ist und oh mein gott, ich will mich von der nächsten Klippe stürzen.
Ich kann einfach keine straight romance lesen. Das ist es und das weiß ich eigentlich auch, aber jetzt wird es mir richtig klar. Das ist so unangenehm zu lesen, weil?? Warum sind straight people so. Warum sagen die immer solche cringigen Sachen, ey. Die Sexszenen waren nicht gut, die chemistrey der Charaktere ist boring und vorhersehbar, die Charaktere an sich sind unterentwicklet und folgen nur ihrem Archetypen, um den nächsten Trope voranzubringen und dann ist alles nach 450 zu langen Seiten vorbei und ich habe absolut nichts außer Hass verspürt.
Dieses Buch wäre besser auf Wattpad aufgehoben. Es sollte dorthin wieder zurückkehren. Bin ich fies, weil ich das sage? Vielleicht, aber so fühle ich mich einfach. Ich hätte einfach nach den ersten 50 Seiten aufhören sollen, lmao, dann hätte ich mir so einiges an Cringe gespart

Mir fehlte einfach die Kreativität. Natürlich habe ich kein Meisterwerk erwartet, aber dafür dass das Buch auf Social Media so beliebt ist, habe ich einfach mehr als drei Tropes in einem Trenchcoat erwartet. Wo ist mein Yearning? Wo ist mein slowly falling in love with the guy youre supposed to hate???
Es gab einfach nichts, was dieses Buch irgendwie gut gemacht hat, wenn man mal vom Cover absieht. Der Hauptcharakter ist nervtötend und strohdumm, ihr Loveinterest ist ein langweiliger Dude mit Muskeln und Grübchen und der restliche Cast hat sowieso keinen Charakter. Außerdem – wenn ich noch ein einziges Mal den vollen Namen des Loveinterest lesen muss, dann fliegt irgendwas durch die Gegend. Athalia nennt ihr sowieso die ganze Zeit nur bei einem seiner Nachnamen, aber manchmal in Gedanken kommt sein voller Name hinzu und es hat mich soooooo sehr abgefuckt. Was ist McCarthy überhaupt für ein unpassender Name, um ihn ständig wie eine Beleidigung zu nutzen? Was ist Dylan McCarthy Williams überhaupt für ein bescheuerter Name, um ihn alle zwei Seiten ganz zu nutzen?
Genauso bescheuert, wie der Name vom Hauptcharakter. Athalia? Echt jetzt? Sind wir in Narnia oder was? Jeder andere Charaktere – ihrem scheiß Zwillingsbruder eingeschlossen – hat einen normalen, englischen Vornamen, aber sie muss so specialig heißen?? Was haben sich ihre dummen, toten Eltern dabei gedacht? Die haben Zwillinge, meine Fresse. Der Junge kommt auf die Welt und sie denken sich „ja, geil, der sieht aus wie ein Henry“ und dann zwölf Minuten später kommt ein Mädchen und sie nennen sie ATHALIA??? Entweder sie haben sie direkt gehasst, oder einfach bevorzugt, eine andere Erklärung gibt es nicht. Kein Wunder dass ihr Bruder die ganze Zeit so ein Arschloch war. Wäre ich auch, wenn meine Schwester wie ein Fantasy-Charakter heißen würde, also echt.
Wo wir schon bei ihrem Bruder sind – der Bruder soll offensichtlich Harry darstellen, denn er hat auch zwei beste Freunde namens Ruben und Heather, aber wie unnötig ist das bitte? Warum gibt es zwei Hermines? Warum ist dieses Buch so unnötig? Warum rege ich mich überhaupt darüber auf? Weiß ich auch nicht so genau. Ihr Bruder war einfach nur nervtötend und ätzend. Er hat die ganze Zeit rumgeheult und so getan, als wäre es das schlimmste auf der Welt, dass Dylan in seiner Nähe atmet und am Ende hat er ein (1) Gespräch mit einer Therapeutin und alles ist wieder gut??? Plötzlich hält er Monologe darüber, wie sehr es ihm leid tut, dass er A mit B beantwortet hat und *hier bitte Therapie-Begriffe einfügen* getan hat. Bitte?? So redet doch keiner. Warum sollte er sowas überhaupt sagen?
Man. Als wäre das nicht schlimm genug, haben wir auch noch secretley gay best friend who is in love with the obnoxious main character trope hier drin, der auch alles andere als gut umgesetzt wurde. Der Trope an sich ist ja schon ätzo, aber das war schon echt n starkes Stück. Athalias beste Freundin Wren kommt nämlich random auf die Idee, Athalia auszugrenzen, weil diese jetzt mit Dylan ausgeht, weil Wren ist ganz doll in sie verliebt :< Aber dann sehen sie sich zwei Wochen nicht und reden einmal miteinander und plötzlich ist sie über sie hinweg? Weil? Gründe?? Wofür überhaupt einführen, wenn es keinen Mehrwert hat!!! Unnötiges Drama kann man auch anders erstellen – zum Beispiel in dem man Dylan 20 Seiten vor Ende einen Unfall haben lässt.
Bruh, ja, das kam auch vor. Die beiden haben das erste Mal richtig Sex – was natürlich perfekt und toll und soweiter ist und sie kommt gefühlt 200 Mal, auch wenn das mega unrealistisch ist, aber was solls – und dann bekommt Dylan eins auf die Fresse und ist im Krankenhaus. Wie unnötig bitte. Noch dazu hat die Autorin keine Ahnung davon, wie Menschen sich benehmen, wenn sie unter Medikamenteneinfluss stehen and it fucking shows.
Dann noch der Cringe. Oh, der cringe, meine Freunde, er war so schlimm. Von vollen Namen alle zwei Seiten zu dummen Spitznamen wie Prinzessin, nennt er sie auch noch ständig Good Girl, worauf sie richtig abfährt, als wäre sie eine diese tiktok buchliebhaber, die nur lesen, wenn 30 sexszenen enthalten sind, dann hat sie natürlich den besten Sex und den besten Orgasmus ihres Lebens, weil er sie mit seinen perfekten Händen und Abs und Grübchen und Haaren und seinem riesengroßen Schlong einmal berührt hat. Ja, selbstverständlich ist Dylan extrem muskulös und hat tolle Haare und Grübchen und ein Six-Pack und einen dicken Brummer in der Hose, wie sonst sollte man einen Mann mögen, wenn er nicht hot ist? An seiner Persönlichkeit kanns schon mal nicht liegen, die ist nämlich kaum vorhanden. Er ist einfach nur der nervige hotte bad boy archetyp, der immer flotte Sprüche auf Lager hat, aber eigentlich ja voll in das MainGirl verknallt ist und oh mein gott, ich will mich von der nächsten Klippe stürzen.
Ich kann einfach keine straight romance lesen. Das ist es und das weiß ich eigentlich auch, aber jetzt wird es mir richtig klar. Das ist so unangenehm zu lesen, weil?? Warum sind straight people so. Warum sagen die immer solche cringigen Sachen, ey. Die Sexszenen waren nicht gut, die chemistrey der Charaktere ist boring und vorhersehbar, die Charaktere an sich sind unterentwicklet und folgen nur ihrem Archetypen, um den nächsten Trope voranzubringen und dann ist alles nach 450 zu langen Seiten vorbei und ich habe absolut nichts außer Hass verspürt.
Dieses Buch wäre besser auf Wattpad aufgehoben. Es sollte dorthin wieder zurückkehren. Bin ich fies, weil ich das sage? Vielleicht, aber so fühle ich mich einfach. Ich hätte einfach nach den ersten 50 Seiten aufhören sollen, lmao, dann hätte ich mir so einiges an Cringe gespart

J'ai reçu une copie de ce livre sur NetGalley et une chance parce que ce livre m’a tellement surpris! Athalia est sur le point de couler son cours de statistiques lorsque Dylan McCarthy le "golden boy" devient son tuteur. Turns out que Dylan est l’ennemi juré et le rival de son frère jumeau. Elle lui propose un deal de fake dating qui amène des sentiments compliqués et beaucoup de drama.
J’étais complètement accrochée dès le cinquième chapitre!
Le banter était excellent, la tension entre Athalia et Dylan était débile. Il y avait plusieurs moments très touchants qui m’ont presque fait verser quelques larmes

to sum up: reading this is like going on a hike expecting to see breathtaking views but instead encountering litter and trash everywhere blowing your expectations.
ok i wanted to add this and say this first but dylan made me so dry. the whole smut was excruciating painful. he made me so dry i swear to god dustbowl2.0 could've occurred.
the premise of this book seemed interesting. fake dating? ok. dating brother's "enemy"? ok. him tutoring her and both signing a dating contract? ok. all of this seems like a typical contemporary romance set in universities. the way it was executed however was terrible.
the first 40% was not so bad i'd say 3 stars until they finally kissed. it all crashed down from there. the 40% focused on the "revenge" to her brother. the rest consisted of horniness from the main characters and of course, a huge (stupid) argument between her and her best friend. the thing about this is that it was mostly the fmc's fault. yet throughout 50-75% of the book it was mostly fmc being angry at her bff and wanted the bff to apologize. the fmc is so childish. actually, everyone is and it pisses me off. i actually can't believe it was set in a university.
the smut made me want to rip my hairs out. honestly, the mmc, he's a really chill guy, UNTIL IT COMES TO LOVE MAKING. god it pisses me off. why is you bed love tongue so vulgar it pisses me off, i think the cover adds to my upset. all scenes were cringe and horrible.
the whole plot that was her getting back at her brother was...... not there throughout the book? maybe like the first 40% and then, like i said, after the first kiss around that percentage of the book it felt like the whole plot changed. i get it, they're the main characters, but it centered about them and their feelings / lust. i wish we could see more interactions between the mmc and the brother and them being bros. but there was no development. i think the brother and fmc reconciling moment should've been handled differently. not by him apologizing after her trip and her not responding to him but in a more communicative way. the fmc brushed it off too like la la la everything ez and oki bc i got dicked. bruh
everything about this book is stereotypical, you can read this anywhere, except this was poorly done. well, most things were predictable besides her fucking best friend confessing to her during the reconcile like, LOL. we got sitting on lap because there's no seats, brother's "enemy", one of the main characters have dead parents, dating contract that include no extreme pda no sex, argument with someone close to mc, some extra fucking chapters of things not important to the plot but are "semi advances" to the fmc and mmc relationship. i hate the fmc i hate mmc and everyone else there i have ZERO attachment to because like i said, since it was heavy romance lust building focused , we barely got to know the characters.
honestly maybe i'm being so harsh because OF THE BEAUTIFUL COVER!! DAMMIT. before going into this i didn't notice the words "university" in the cover or series title, so i fully went into this expecting cute ya. boy was i wrong. literally beginning of the book they were bantering like TEENAGERS. they acted so immature for their age, like you couldn't convince me they were 23 year olds in college. i feel like this could've been done SO well if it was ya focused set in high school and focused on the main mission: annoy brother and not so much of their horniness. like the marketing could've sold everyone, the cover is so nice. i'm so disappointed.

Це така легенька, мила і комфортна історія, яка підняла мені настрій і жодного разу не роздратувала. Особливо порадувало, що обійшлося без розриву в 3 акті.
З плюсів: гарно прописана головна героїня. Аталія вийшла такою справжньою, зі своїми травмами, прагненням отримати увагу і любов брата, трішки зарозумілим і егоїстичним характером і нелюбов'ю до статистики. Звичайна дівчина, яка в перервах між навчанням любить проводити час з друзями і відвідувати вечірки.
Також тут чудовий головний герой. Ділан турботливий, саркастичний, розумний, щирий і добрий, вміє готувати і любить задовільняти Аталію.
Мені дууже подобалося спостерігати за їхніми взаємодіями, за взаємним дражненням і підтрунюванням, за їхнім фліртом. Було багато милих, гарячих і смішних моментів, багато хімії і напруги. Одне тільки їхнє репетиторство чого варте😂🔥
З мінусів, мені не вистачило POV від Ділана, і хотілося більше про нього дізнатися: ким працюють його батьки, як він проводить вільний від навчання час, його плани на майбутнє. Замало нам дали про нього інформації

тут починається моя улюблена частина. книжка трохи завелика, як на роман, але кожна сторінка виправдана. не було ані відчуття нудьги, ані враження, що щось потрібно було скоротити.
разом Аталія і Ділан – дві кумедні булочки, я багато сміялася і посміхалася з ними. хоч би яким суперником чи ворогом не був Ділан, але він точно зелений прапорець. цікавий, спокійний, смішний, відповідальний, турботливий. мене він підкупив цим. і це ще не весь список його якостей – до нього додасться і великий список заслуг. Аталія з ним розквітла. і з братом стосунки налагодила, і сама щасливіша стала. вона мені теж дуже сподобалася, така мила і стійка, хоча життя не раз підкидало щось недобре.
наприкінці ситуацію з подругою я не відразу зрозуміла. тобто аж з третього разу. алееее океееей, на мої враження це не вплинуло.

While I enjoyed the romance I didn’t enjoy the plot because there was not a plot at all.
Also I really didn’t like how the storyline about Wrens Crush on Athalia was handled. She confessed her crush and after that she immediately said that she met someone ??? That’s one way to fix it huh. Ugh
Blake was also interested in Athalia and he is the best friend of Dylan which is also weird ???
I feel like I read so much but at the same time just nothing ✨I really love the taste of nothing :)

The writing style was rather nice, the story was pretty standard. I was a lot more entertained during the first half of the book and then struggled through the second half.

Ich liebe Geschichten mit Fake Dating Trope und die Story von Dylan und Athalia hat besonders viel Spaß gemacht! Athalia ist eine richtig tolle Protagonistin, die nicht auf den Mund gefallen ist und Dylan - Hach, greener kann eine green flag echt nicht sein! Er ist witzig, schlau, einfach wundervoll, ein toller Bruder und ein noch besserer (Fake) Freund! Die Dialoge waren ausnahmslos großartig und ich hab Seite um Seite inhaliert! Rennt alle los und kauft euch dieses Buch! Ihr werdet es nicht bereuen!!! 🩷

Der Schreibstil war anfangs noch etwas holprig, blieb eher an der Oberfläche und ließ wenig Raum zum Durchatmen – das hat den Einstieg etwas erschwert. Zum Glück wurde das ab dem Mittelteil deutlich besser, und zum Ende hin konnte ich richtig eintauchen. ✨
Was mich persönlich sehr gestört hat: Dass Athalia Dylan fast durchgehend mit seinem Nachnamen anspricht – selbst in intimen Szenen. Das hat für mich unnötige Distanz geschaffen und den emotionalen Zugang erschwert. 😕
Ansonsten mochte ich die Figuren wirklich gern! Dylan war einfach ein Schatz 💕, und auch Henry und Athalias Mitbewohnerin haben mir total gefallen. Besonders schön fand ich, wie zum Ende hin endlich unausgesprochene Dinge geklärt wurden – das hat den Charakteren spürbar Tiefe gegeben.
Das Fake Dating-Trope in Kombination mit Haters to Lovers hat der Story auf jeden Fall Würze verliehen – ein schöner Mix, der für Unterhaltung gesorgt hat. Athalia blieb mir als Protagonistin allerdings ein bisschen zu blass und hätte für meinen Geschmack noch mehr eigene Ecken und Kanten vertragen können.
Ich freue mich jetzt sehr auf Henrys Geschichte im zweiten Band – da steckt, glaube ich, richtig viel drin! 📚✨

Ansonsten mochte ich die Figuren wirklich gern! Dylan war einfach ein Schatz 💕, und auch Henry und Athalias Mitbewohnerin haben mir total gefallen. Besonders schön fand ich, wie zum Ende hin endlich unausgesprochene Dinge geklärt wurden – das hat den Charakteren spürbar Tiefe gegeben.
Das Fake Dating-Trope in Kombination mit Haters to Lovers hat der Story auf jeden Fall Würze verliehen – ein schöner Mix, der für Unterhaltung gesorgt hat. Athalia blieb mir als Protagonistin allerdings ein bisschen zu blass und hätte für meinen Geschmack noch mehr eigene Ecken und Kanten vertragen können.
Ich freue mich jetzt sehr auf Henrys Geschichte im zweiten Band – da steckt, glaube ich, richtig viel drin! 📚✨

I got tricked by a gorgeous cover again. Reading this was painful. Don’t get me wrong, I do love me some rewritten fanfics! But this one? It made me realise that too much HP and not enough imagination or world-building can really ruin a story. The names alone gave me a headache. Henry and his friends Reuben and Harriet? Dylan McCarthy? Blake Zachary? Professor Simon Shaw? I really can’t deal with this anymore. Also, the y/n main character Athalia was insufferable. I forced myself through this book for the promised steam, but even those scenes were disappointing. I finished the book, but at what cost? What a way to start my reading year. Big Sigh.

È stata una lettura piacevole e se dovessi valutare solo la coppia che formano Athalia e Dylan darei quasi il voto pieno.
Purtroppo però le storie romance devono girare intorno a qualcosa e la struttura del libro è quasi nulla e il poco che c'è non regge.
Viene presentato come un enemies to lovers, ma dov'è l'enemies? 😅
Lei lo odia perché è il "nemico di suo fratello" e lui la odia perché?

Il libro si apre con Athalia che deve prendere ripetizioni da Dylan in statistica perché ha preso un brutto voto all'esame e il suo "nemico" è purtroppo per lei l'assistente del professore.
Scopriamo qui che il fratello gemello le ha vietato di avvicinarsi a Dylan e c'è una discussione tra i fratelli, con Henry che s'intromette perché non vuole assolutamente che lei prenda ripetizioni dal suo nemico.
Athalia si arrabbia perché il fratello da quando sono rimasti orfani di entrambi i genitori non l'ha più filata di pezza, se non per intromettersi nella sua vita per aggiustare le cose che a lui non piacciono.
Da lì il piano geniale.
Chiede a Dylan di fingersi il suo fidanzato per due mesi per far andare in bestia il fratello ed essere minimamente calcolata.
Ok. Ci può stare anche se la motivazione è un po' assurda.
Quindi iniziano una serie di finti appuntamenti in cui si fanno vedere dal gemello, ma che poi sfociano in veri appuntamenti e va beh sappiamo come si sfrutta il fake dating.
Dylan poi è odiato sia da Henry che dalla sua migliore amica e non si sa il perché e quando lo scopriamo per entrambi le motivazioni sono stupide, ma stupide davvero e si arriva a pensare "e quindi?" perché davvero si capisce dal minuto zero che lui non è un ragazzo cattivo e che è impossibile odiarlo.
Poi alcune spiegazioni sono date un po' alla buona, il fatto che lui sia cotto di lei da quando la conosce è palese ma viene ammesso alla fine, quando i familiari di lui a mezze frasi lasciano intendere benissimo che lui parlasse di lei anche prima di frequentarla "per finta" e che lei non lo capisca è ovviamente assurdo perché praticamente glielo dicono in faccia più volte.
Però al di là di questi difetti che fanno solo notare la penna acerba dell'autrice, loro sono davvero molto belli insieme e quindi ve lo consiglio. ❤️
