This is an ideal book to begin maths. Its explanations are a bit concise and not a lot different from other books. It talks in the parlance of maths throughout and one learns that everyday English words have a very special mathematical meaning; ie we learn the new maths lingo. However, the book really shows its power in the examples which go gradually from easy to hard, all the time giving the student more confidence.
Incidentally, the book is a bit old and could now be usefully used for the P1 (A level maths) unit in UK schools (and maybe part of the P2 although I'm not au fait with the current goings on in UK schools). Warmly recommended.
