Interpreting the Symbol and Types is a comprehensive study unlocking the biblical language of the symbol And type, allowing for greater understanding of scriptural truth. This language of divine origin, reveals characteristics and shades of meaning that would be lost to the believer if he or she did not acquaint himself or herself with this terminology.
I used this for many years, but suggest you don't put sole weight on his interpretations. Some things were simply historical and contextual and do not have any spiritual, mystical or symbolic meaning.
Interpreting the Symbols and Types by Kevin J. Conner
If you are a student of the Word of God, this is a really GREAT (reference) book to have in your library. You won't regret it.
I don't know him personally, but based on the information in this book and looking at some of the other titles of books he's penned, Mr. Conner seems to have a really good understanding of God's scriptures and how to view them, and personally and practically understand them.
Jesus Followers will find this knowledgeable Biblicist's easy-to-read work helpful in better understanding what Holy Spirit may be saying to us through the Bible, His words on paper.
It will give you a fuller view much like a cultural understanding of ancient and 1st Century Jewish and Greco-Roman life and times does.
I appreciate that Conner backs up his interpretations with Scriptures. Also it’s helpful that he explains the differences between biblical symbols and types. Great referece book that is well-organized!
Conner tries to base some symbolism on related scriptures, but I don't think he does a good enough job of that. He doesn't understand the basic allegory in scripture IMO.
If you are into Dr Jung, archetypes, dream interpretation, etc... and are a believer, this book could be very helpful. I think it should have a little more explanation in the intro as to how folks have different subconscious pegs or categorizations to "symbols". Quick example: take a swastika -to a german or jew that would have a much different meaning or feeling behind it than to a Hindu or Jain where it would mean being blessed. Anyway. This info could be very helpful as a guide to ideas to ask them about but beware of strict formulas and quick judgements. :)
