This book had the touch.
It also had the power.
When all hell was breaking loose this year, it was riding the eye of the storm.
...
It also didn't hurt that I was enjoying delicious caramel and banana crepes while I was reading this.
A special thanks to my brother for sending this to me in the mail.

The third installment of the crossover series features a very interesting new take on a G.I. Joe villain. There are also some surprising twists at the end. There do seem to be a few minor inconsistencies with the first two installments - but nothing that's a deal-breaker. (B+)

Okay okay, I know..I know.. "what was I thinking?" Well let me begin by saying that I grew up with both G.I. Joe and the Transformers. I had also read the original comic series that was the crossover. In the intervening years I have encountered IDW's Transformer's comics and they were quite good. So while meandering around my local comic book store I found this gem on sale and picked it up. This graphic novel is a collection of two tales: the first is The Art of War. This one was actually quite decent (considering what the original material was). It is a retelling of the tale of Serpentor. In this story the US Government using Megatron's remains to create a cyborg super-soldier. This cyborg goes rogue and travels to Cybertron to unite the Decepticons and lead an assault on the Autobots. The G.I. Joe team also comes through to help their Autobot friends. All things considered this was a decent story and the artwork was quite decent as well. had it been by itself I would have given it a 3/5.
Then we get to the second story: Black Horizon. Hard to believe that this was written by the same guy (Tim Seeley). The artwork is terrible and the story is all over the place. It tells the story of Cobra-La and Golubulus attempting to contact Unicron and bring him to Earth. It even has the original G.I. Joe in it. It was not well written and was all over the place. By the end I was just skimming along the story waiting for the end. This one gets a 1/5. So combined the Crossover Vol 3 rates a 2/5.

I got way more than I expected out of this story. It brought a very strong Sci-Fi element into the GI Joe saga, but not in a cheesy way. Expect the unexpected. They were free of any limits of continuity, so some of the plot twists really took me off guard. I loved the story. It was compelling and a short, complete telling of a tale. Excellent writing.

Nice last volume in this series. Good art and writing combining these two series. Recommended
