He’s a hard-ass rancher with big secrets. She’s a city-slicker with big dreams. Together, they’re INVINCIBLE.
DECK As a covert freelance contractor for security and intelligence, I’m the best in the business. Cocky, smart, and controlled, and I get the job done. When tragedy hits, I hit harder.
MILA I left my cowboy boots behind, trading them for city-slicking stilettos, and never looked back. But my sister’s death brought me home, and I’m hellbent on uncovering the truth. I refuse to let Decker Ashford get in my way, with his sexy southern drawl, the last thing I need is a distraction. He says he’s here to protect me, keep me safe, but I’m not about to get DECKED.
“Hold on tight baby. This is a ride you’ll never forget.”
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: ☹️☺️😍😄 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The Hero:Decker - he was abused as a child until he moved to the King Alexander ranch in Texas with his friend Quint at the age of 13. He is now Ranch Manager, and, on the side, he does covert independent contracts for security and intelligence. He is thinking about going into business with a bunch of friends and former MI5 and MI6 agents, which is tentatively called Invincible’s Intelligence and Security. One night on the way home from the airport after a trip to London, he finds a girl on the side of the road that dies soon after.
The heroine:Mila - she grew up in Texas but now lives in Boston and works at a college as a music instructor. Though she just found out she was fired from her job. It is the worst possible time, since she recently spent all her savings after her grandfather died in Texas. She had paid for the funeral and all his bills. Her friend Adler lives on the floor above her and his family owns the building. Something happened to Mila in the past and since then she hates to be touched even by Adler. Whatever happened to her left a lasting impression.
The Story: Mila gets a call from Texas to say that her sister was killed, and she needs to go and identify the body. Decker picks her up at the airport and she stays with him on the ranch while she is in town. She remembered Decker from her childhood, when he helped her one night, it stuck with her and even now she isn’t bothered when he touches her like she is with others. She feels safe with him. Her friend Adler has been acting strangely lately and though he flew to town with her, he left right away and then came back even though she told him not to come.
I like these types of romantic suspense books quite a bit. They usually have a good storyline alongside the romance and have plenty of mystery and action, which I really enjoy. This book had the storyline about Mila’s sisters murder, another about what Adler is up to, and what happened to Mila in her past. So overall it was set up very well. The world building was pretty good as well as character development. Decker is one of the best at what he does and is the perfect person to help Mila. It doesn’t hurt that they are attracted to each other from the start. The book was good, though there were some lines that were pretty corny, like the quote I put at the top of this review.
This audiobook was in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Phillip Battley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. Stephanie has a nice, soft voice with a perfect accent for a Texas gal. Phillip has a deep voice which is perfect for Decker, and though he doesn’t have a Texas accent, he is a great narrator, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I bought the box set of the first three books in this series and the same two narrators do all three books and that works for me.
Decked is book 1 in her new series The Invincibles by Heather Slade and what a way to start!!

Just the absolute best story. It had me captivated from the beginning with the hot steamy scenes. I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it! Everything I like to read about and more. Such a great story I will read again and again. A keeper!!

Audio Review: Decked (The Invincibles #1) by Heather Slade, Narrated by Craig Hart, Stephanie Nemeth-Parker
Emotions run deep. Danger is rampant. Temptation is inevitable. Decked is a mystery waiting to be solved. Slade grabs your attention and holds tight from start to finish. Hart and Parker jump right into danger with heartbreaking accuracy and make Mila and Decker their own.
This was my first time reading this author and it was such an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The plot and characters were gripping and pulled me in form the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. It's a fast paced edge of your seat thrilling suspense romance. I loved Deck and Mila they were awesome characters and I enjoyed watching them and their becoming a couple. There's action, murder, mystery, drama, suspense, emotion, passion and a hot and steamy romance. It was an awesome book and a great start of a new series that I highly recommend!

Mila has kept herself separate from people since an event nine years ago. She must travel from Boston to Texas when her sister is killed. Decker remembers Mila, and the instant connection between them. Mila does not mind being around Decker unlike her response to most men.
Can they discover the secrets behind her sister’s death, and can Decker prove he can be counted on?
Full of emotion and edge-of-your-seat tension. A gripping read, and brilliant romance.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
I loved this intense, edge of your seat, thrillride of a romantic suspense read. Deck and Mila are great characters that were easy to like and root for. It was just so easy to feel the attraction and chemistry simmering and sparking between these two. The well wriiten storyline will keep you fully engaged with this gripping tale of murder, mystery, drama, danger, action, powerful emotion, passion and nail biting tension. This was a terrific read and an excellent start to this exciting new series. This is my independent, impartial review.
What a great start to the new "Invincibles" series. I cannot wait to read more!!! Mila and Deck are great together with undeniable chemistry. This book is fast paced and very intrigue. The story is nicely developed and the characters strong. I enjoyed every bit of this story from beginning to end. I love the mystery, suspense and twists to this story.
I'm so excited about this new series by Heather Slade. The Invincibles is going to be out of this world.
Decked is filled with wonderful characters, lots of action and some super steamy love scenes, but as with most of Ms. Slades books it it packed with suspense and a great story. Decker and Mila are out to find out who killed her sister, but that's not all they find.
This was a well-written suspenseful romance, but the romance was never made it past foreplay. I did find he mystery of a murder and the birth of a new security team that solved this case was interesting and intriguing. However, despite the love interest between the Decker and Mila being almost instant, the book actually ended with Mila asking Decker to take her upstairs to make love for the first time, as their first sexual encounter had been interrupted by the investigation of the murder of Mila’s sister. So, this author went a little too far with the build up to the sexual relationship and then literally left you frustrated in the end! I really don’t understand what the points is to all this sexual tension with constant complications preventing a natural progression desire and chemistry to physical intimacy. The author didn’t seem shy or repressed, so I’m at a loss and not so sure about reading more of this authors books. No REAL happy ending in this book.
Code Name:Deck is the first book in the new Invincibles Team One series. You'll get to meet the new Invincible team members as thy work their first investigation. They're an interesting group and I am looking forward to each of their stories. But first, Decker. We met him in a previous Heather Slade book, I was happy to see he got his own story. It's a great one. Decker and Mila are a perfect match. They have a history, albeit a brief one, but the draw between them is palpable.. Mila left Texas nine years ago for a reason. Coming back wasn't on he agenda and yet here she is. Trusting a man is not easy for her but Decker immediately earns Mila's trust with his kindness, gentle demeanor and caring attitude. Together they work to solve her sister's murder and uncover a number of unsettling facts that Mila never knew. Deck falls hard and fast but Mila isn't on the same page. But the old saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder" holds true when Mila returns to Boston only to realize her heart belongs in Texas with Deck because he is her home.
I LOVED MILA AND DECKER‼️ This story grabbed me right off the bat and I had trouble putting it down‼️ Mila fled Texas years ago to pursue and education and subsequently a career in music. She loved her apartment and her job in Boston. First her grandfather dies so she goes back to Texas but doesn’t stay long when she has an argument with her sister. Back in Boston she gets a letter that she no longer has a job and while her kind of creepy friend/landlord (Adler) tries to cheer her up, she gets a phone call that her sister is dead! Back to Texas she goes. What awaits her there is nothing that she would have expected. Enter Decker and a memory of their brief encounter when they were kids. I don’t want to give away any more so suffice it to say, read this book! Heather Slade is definitely one of my top favourite authors and this story is just another reason!
When Milas sister, the last of her family beside her estranged father dies beside a road, Decker and Mila have another chance encounter and try to find out, what happened to Sybil, and to keep Mila safe. Decker just signed a contract for a private security company partnership and with his partners they unravel a chain of events that threaten Mila.
Lots of action and many sweet swoon moments I loved. A lot happens left and right with the introduction of all team members. Loved that Decker and Mila had a small bonding moment in the past that impacted them both and there was no drama between this two at any time. More swoon. There were some moments that threw me out of the loop and I have to figure out if that is due to only listen to the audiobook or if there were abrupt scene changes that irritated me. So I might come back with a recheck on this review.
This was my first read by this author and I’m very pleased that I purchased the book. It is romantic suspense. The male lead is strong but nit over the top alpha portrayal. He is clear and direct and caring ... healthy. The female lead enters as shell shocked by traumatic knees but also strong intelligent and grows through the story ... healthy. The story line is very interesting and The guilty party is not obvious. Also very difficult topics are handled with respect and are not over the top graphic. The character development is great. There is an absence of nauseating rumination that some authors out n when they don’t seem to know what else to do. I’d recommend this book to a wide range of readers.
Decker and Mila. Deck is a great character and I am so glad to read about his HEA. He stole the heart when Z shared his story through Quint and Wrens and his story in previous series. I loved how he supported the family, ranch and still was so strong in his own skillset, which is even stronger in his own book. Mila is a unique character in that she left Texas and is not associated with the intelligence community. Her strengths and ability to stand strong was huge in this story. The Invincible are new, but connected to the previous series with M15/M16 connections and security goals. Their connection to each other is less clear right now, but has me intrigued to learn more!
I'm not a reviewer that rehashes the story, if you're reading the reviews you know what it's about. I'll tell you what I look for in a review: what I liked (or didn't) about a book. This is a great read. The story is engaging, the dialog is interesting, the characters are well developed and likeable, the story moves at a good pace (no lagging or rushing), there's enough steam to fog your windows, and enough intrigue to keep you turning the pages. If you enjoy audio books, this is a great one to listen to. The narrators were perfect! This is not my first book by Heather Slade, she's fast becoming a favorite.
Decked (The Invincibles Book 1) By Heather Space. 5 Stars *****
Gut Wrenching Awesome, Sigh...
This is so full of good stuff. You have suspense, a murder, a stalker, investigating gurus that are top notched and a woman whose in the middle of it all. Dang, it was sooo good!!!
Decker and Mila captured both my heart and attention 100%.. There sure isnt many men like Decker that's for sure, he is a gem...
This is a series I'm going to enjoy reading!!
I have voluntarily read this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a review for it. Reviewer for Nook Books and More Blog.
Decked is about Decker Ashford Alexander. He is the head of King-Alexander ranch and also a security consultant. He was first introduced in Shadow in Slade's MI6 series. Deck finds himself solving the murder of a local women but in the process he will find the love of his life in Mila the victim's sister. This story was fast pace and was filled with mystery, suspense and healing. Mila went though an awful experience years ago and Decker will help her. They both might actually find love. I wish their were more scenes with Decker and his shirt off.. Happy Reading!!
Very suspenseful story, the muder myster plot kept me intrigued all the way to the end. The romance was solid, a little steamy and quick connection, but not focused on too much. I enjoyed the male lead Decker, his background and connection to this mysterious intelligence group. Mila the female lead I just couldn't quite connect too , her personality and her attitude towards a lot of what happened was a little off putting. Overall this was an interesting quick read.
What a way to start the Invincibles. I forget no matter how many times I read Decked to have a box of tissues ready. Mila’s story will have your heart aching and then bursting at the seams. She goes through so much strength as her world falls apart needing someone or anything to lean on. Luckily Decker is there and is able to be her rock and her hand. In the dark, he will be her beacon as they race against the clues to her sister’s killer. Get ready to buy every book because you won’t want to put this series down.
Decker & Mila: TRIGGERS: sexual assault, sexual assault of a minor, theft, blackmail. This was a really great suspense story, a real whodunnit. It will keep you guessing through the entire book. The romance is an extremely slow burn but you'll honestly be so into the mystery that you'll forget that it's supposed to be a romance. I loved Decker, he was a real sweetheart and treated Mila like a queen. By the end in the book, I had a distaste got Mila and the way she was with Decker. This is HEA but it feels like it was a last minute decision. 4 stars for the suspense.... 3 for the romance.
Terrific start to the new series The Invincibles that pops from the beginning with the hunky, in-charge Decker the guy with a few broken parts and the sweetheart Mila. Good storyline with intrigue and suspense with a few twists along with the sexy romance. Great secondary characters for future stories. Another winner for this fantastic author. I look forward to more of this series.

Liked both the plot as well as the characters in this novel. How ever i just wished that Decker and Mila had got passed the foreplay! So there you have it, a novel that builds you up with the plot and lots of heated moments between the pair. But then this novel makes you fall flat on your own backside wondering where the hell it all went wrong? Yeah, so do not expect this novel to melt your kindle anytime soon..
He has a female die in his arms. She comes home after the death of her family member. There is a mystery of her death. He and her try to figure out how she died. Their relationship grows and it was so good

This is an engaging book that doesn’t have a “cookie cutter” plot. It’s an intriguing murder mystery with solid characters. Decker is just an all-round good guy that has an interesting group of colleagues. Mila’s entire life has fallen apart and Decker is her rock. There relationship is based on trust and a mutual attraction.
When Decked finds a woman on the road almost dead he has to let the woman's sister know. Mila lives along way from Texas but hops on a flight to find out how her sister died. She ends up in the middle of a crazy situation in which people are trying to kill her. This book was a little confusing in the beginning but got a lot better as it moved along.
Decker discovers a dying woman on the side of the road. He later learns that she’s the sister of a high school friend. Decker and the Invincible Team start their own investigation into the death of Ms. Knight, while protecting her sister from the murderer. Good story.
What a great book and I know it’s going to be an amazing series! This book has love, sexy rancher, mystery, murder, deceit and surprises! It’s the perfect cocktail for an amazing read. I got lost in the book and avoided everything else until I finished it! New authors to me, but I will definitely be reading more!
This was an amazing start to a series. I really liked this book. I couldn't put book down once started.
I loved Decker and Mila together, they may of met under some horrible circumstances. But Decker was there for Mila whole way through. Mila has a terrible past, and reason she's back in Texas is terrible. But who knew seeing someone they once met bring love.
