One of the most well organized books I've found in this field of drawing.
Tadashi Ozawa clearly did the right thing by showing that not all styles are the same and that different styles can express different things.
This is the kind of book a beginner SHOULD look for. Something that is explained well by an actual Japanese person whose worked in the trade.
Very good points are brought out and explained, such as perspective, anatomy, and dimensions in art.

Even after years of having this book, I sometimes open it when I'm feeling a little stuck on proportioning.

Pretty good book for beginners, also contains a lot of examples of how NOT to draw.

Profoundly disappointing as an art instruction guide. Way too much of the book is taken up going over details that are only helpful in those particular characters (not famous ones, just "types" with a lot of specific details). That said, the chapter of critiques is fairly useful, showing both "before" and "after" modifications that clean up the images, and critiquing both details and more foundational issues with the drawings.
I don't think this spends any real time teaching the reasoning behind the style it seeks to teach.
