The faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary, past and present, have given the church many wonderful tools to help the Christian beginner get started (Ryrie’s, “Basic theology,” Zuck’s “Basic Bible Interpretation,” etc.). Once again, our brothers and sisters in Texas shine. For years I have been waiting for an introduction to the entire Bible, for a beginner, that has sound doctrine, concise sections, and understandable language. At last, here it is! This book is a delight on many levels. It gives excellent “bird’s eye” introductions at the beginning to make sure the reader does not get lost in detail. Throughout, it provides helpful “you are here” pointers to help the reader stay on track. In these connections to the macro story of the Bible, Christ is always kept at the center.
The introductions to the biblical books provide essential content with a conciseness that defies the imagination. And, interspersed throughout the book, there are incredibly helpful supplemental essays on subjects like translation, archaeology and the biblical canon. These give the reader a basic feel for the reliability of scripture, as well as the tools for navigating difficult questions. The question-and-answer sections were a particular delight. I was very pleased that the editors included essays from many wise men of the past who helped shape so much of the contemporary scholarship contained within these pages. I was further pleased with the clear presentation of the gospel that we find woven into the various introductions. The sections on Habakkuk and Galatians were particularly good in this regard.
For me, the publication of this book is timely. I am currently designing an introduction to the Bible course. Just as I was lamenting the absence of a book like this one, a friend posted about its coming release on social media. As a Christian, I find the book a helpful review and encouragement. As a pastor, I will recommend it liberally to those needing a starting place for understanding the Bible. As a professor, it will be one of my core textbooks for many years to come.

Buen libro. Le daría un 4.5 ya que vi se quedó corto en algunos temas. Adicional, siendo un libro que viene de DTS me hubiera gustado que añadieran algo sobre dispensacionalismo y escatología. Aún así, fue una lectura excelente.
