This is a simple guide to search engine optimization, written in layman’s simplicity, geared specifically toward authors and using the best genre keywords for writers to use on blogs and book distributors such as Amazon. It is basic, basic, basic. No mention of HTML or any kind of coding. In fact, if you dabble in website coding or have any previous knowledge of how basic SEO works, keep on scrolling to other optimization guides.I know, I know. Book descriptions are supposed to encourage buying of this particular book. And you should if you are brand spanking new to how search engines and web crawlers work. But if you’re looking for more advanced coding, this isn’t the guide for that. Not by a long shot.So writers and bloggers new to search engine optimization, this short (25 pages) guide with screen shot examples is ideal. More advanced SEO specialists…move along. From Author Lavender “Most of the writers who buy this will be like desperately in need of the information and how to incorporate it, but with little (or slowly developing) techno savvy.”
“Clover Autrey’s books are perfect for the time-constrained reader. They are a quick read jam-packed with action, adventure and emotion.”
A high school English teacher by day, Clover Autrey writes the kind of stories she loves to read; strong and smart characters who are willing to fight for what they believe and the people they love. She is the author of the HIGHLAND SORCERY series and the CHAPEL PINES series with a new series about ARMY RANGER BILLIONAIRES coming soon.
Clover has served as the president of the Keller Writers Association and the North Texas Romance Writers of America.
Inspired by her love of Louis L'Amour historical romantic heroes, Clover (yeah, that's her real name), packed up and moved to Texas where she found a real live Texan of her own. She's been there ever since where she and Pat (who else would a Clover marry but a Patrick?) listen to the coyotes howl at the trains each evening.
Review – Search Engine Optimization by Clover Autrey
If you’re an author who knows nothing about SEO except that it’s a subject you should know something about, then you could do worse than pick up this simple guide. It’s short, which means it really is simple (unlike, say Search Engine Optimization for Dummies … which is a mere 768 pages, suggesting it moves way past my definition of “simple”).
Search Engine Optimization is a short book that seeks to demystify SEO for authors, and I think it succeeds. It’s practical, in that the ideas are easy to understand and implement. She briefly discusses the background ideas of metadata and web crawlers before moving on to defining keywords and showing how you can find the best keywords for your book (for authors, the answer is simple: use Amazon).
She then moves on to discussing tags (both short-tailed and long-tailed … and don’t worry: that’s as technical as she gets), gives some hints on better optimising the headings and pages on your website, and explains what alt text is and how you can use it to optimize your page.
One point I found particularly helpful was that SEO is like life in that you only get one chance to make a first impression. The web crawlers go through your page within seconds of it being published, so if you publish a page or blog post that isn’t especially SEO-friendly, you’ve lost your chance. The advantage of that is there is little point in wasting time going back through old posts to make them more SEO-friendly. Just learn what you can do better, and implement those ideas in future. (Of course, it’s possibly the author is completely wrong in this: if so, please leave a comment!).
Search Engine Optimization costs less than a dollar, will take you less than an hour to read, and left me with some actionable steps I could implement without too much difficulty.
I really enjoyed this book (Kindle edition) as a sort of self-help for writers offering. It is written without all the tech jargon, yet offers a clear explanation of how search engine optimization works and sound advice for how to improve your book's or blog's reach by taking advantage of the process. Well done!
