This book serves a good purpose as a reference for equipment and conditioning for anyone interested in venturing into the backcountry. Be warned, Camron Hanes advises shooting your bow in your living room and Eastman’s publishing put a disclaimer in the beginning stating that the company is, “in no way responsible in the event of injury, death or loss suffered by you even if you choose to mimic Cameron’s less than intelligent “Living Room Practice Round” maneuver.”

Exposition-in the beginning of the book we met the main character his name is Cameron Hanes he is a guy who is in his 40s and is a weight lifter that loves shooting his bow he shoots his bow everyday just to get better he goes on 100 mile runs and he is so strong because he goes to the gym everyday. rising action- cam goes on a dall sheep hunt and when he goes out there he has a hard time finding sheep but when he finally spots one up it is a mile and a half away so when they finally make the walk all the way there they cant find the sheep and so they start to panic thinking they lost one and right as all of this is happening he spots the sheep just one more ridge away so they go after them. They get over on the ridge and find the sheep they are a little out of bow range so they go start a stalk on the sheep and finally get into bow range. -climax- Cam draws back and he gets lined up for the shot his years of practice are all being put to the test and when he lets the shot go he can see that it is going to be a great shot. When his arrow hits the sheep it hits perfect in the heart and the sheep takes off running. Cam is now so pumped he cant hold still then he looks back to the area of where the sheep is and he sees that it is going to die. he watches it go and lay down but it lays down right next to the edge of a cliff. When cam sees this he begins to panic they watch as the sheep slowly loses life but right as it is about to be done it starts kicking and is begin to slide down the cliff. Falling action- Cam immediately takes action and goes running toward his sheep he soon realizes that he has a life or death decision to make over this sheep Resolution- cam grabs the sheep by the horns and drags it up the hill all the while of his life and knowing if he slipped and fell he would die.
The character that i think had the most change is cam at the beginning of the book he wasn't really one to take risk and put his life in danger but towards the end of the book he definitely changes and wants to risk his life for this sheep
Theme- Sometimes in life we try to be overprotective and don't want to take the risks but if we can learn to take the risks then we can be able to receive much greater rewards, when we receive these great rewards they are much better than thinking later on that you should have. It is always better to be able to tell a story and say that "i did that" than "i wish i did that"
I really liked this book because it was very comparable to me and my personality so i could really understand everything that was going on.

Great book if your into wilderness elk or muley hunting. Good tips on gear and conditioning routines to do before your trek to the high country! Cameron is very passionate about western bowhunting and it shows in his works.

Awesome read with great stories and a huge amount of information. Really have to respect a good man with respectful and ethical hunting principles who can also put a perspective of these in a literary format. I enjoyed this book immensely
