Rachel Lynch grew up in Cumbria and the lakes and fells are never far away from her. London pulled her away to teach History and marry an Army Officer, whom she followed around the globe for thirteen years.

A change of career after children led to personal training and sports therapy, but writing was always the overwhelming force driving the future. The human capacity for compassion as well as its descent into the brutal and murky world of crime are fundamental to her work.

The Secret Inheritance is my first book by author Rachel Lynch. I was not sure what to expect as I have not indulged in many Mystery Thrillers, though I enjoy various other types of mystery mixed genre stories. Ms Lynch is quite the story teller and she has focused on what can happen in families after someone dies—as far as wills are concerned. Mind you this is the worst case scenario!

Wealthy father, Jude, dies and we learn he is not surrounded by his three children Rosie, Hettie and James when he is passing from this world. Only his housekeeper, Clara, is tending to him but she gets to hear and see his responses. And it seems he has come regrets, as far as his children are concerned. It is obvious he was hoping they would come see him to say goodbye but none have. They have kept their distance: all are waiting for his passing. Although he has cancer, they do not expect him to expire so quickly. They are not a loving lot and the animosity between the siblings is quite jarring and the lengths they will go to get revenge on each other. And of course, their disdain for their father is the only common ground they share. It seems from what we learn, he has tortured them all in one way or another. Not to mention their late mother was also pretty dreadful. Some of her activities are shocking. There were four children initially but something happened to Christian around his eighteenth year that caused his death. Each sibling blames the other without knowing the full story. There are secrets that surround his life that become known by the end of the story: just before tragedy strikes again.

This novel is riddled with secrets, bitterness, anger, violence, guilt, selfishness, greed, physical torture, mental abuse, betrayal, and the list goes on. The effects of trauma in their lives have resulted in handicaps (physically and emotionally). Life is a series of contests for these siblings as that is how their father set things up. Creating seriously disturbing competitiveness in them with each other. And, of course, he has put up a last challenge with the reading of his will, that they must abide by to ‘win’ their inheritance. Their father’s harsh influence on them and his disappointment in them, continue long after his death as they keep trying to prove their worth and, some would say, win his love. This ‘stinking thinking’ keeps affecting their decisions and actions—which sometimes becomes violent and shocking.

The characters start out at their ultimate worst and the conflicts expose their personality flaws and selfish motives. Once reality hits them (as they step outside their own personal issues) it provides quite a jolt. I won’t list all the characters but those that provide their viewpoint (there are multiple ones) give us quite an insight on the state of things. The housekeeper, the siblings and Sarah (a friend of James who becomes involved) tell their side of the story and well. It was easy to see how they got to the state where they ended up.

The Secret Inheritance is quite a psychological thriller with some twisty mystery and plenty of shocking drama. As mentioned, not the sort of book I would normally read but I appreciate a skilfully delivered story that achieves its purpose and this one does! It kept me turning the pages and although I guessed many outcomes, it was still a fascinating journey. The truths that erupt are believable of how troubled minds will inevitably produce negative behavioural responses-- shaped and born from childhood trauma. 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! This was a thriller that kept me trying to figure out the parts of the
story dealing with the underlying motivations of the families involved in
old fashioned greed. Siblings can be absolutely vicious to one another,
and it is worse when it turns out no one really understood the horrible
happenings of the others…
This is a good book. I will comment that the cover art did lead me to think
it might be a happier story…
My thanks to Storm Publishing via Net Galley for the download copy of the

I absolutely looooved the way this book ebbed and flowed. It kept me engaged, guessing and second guessing - I truly didn’t want the book to end.

There were a few points where I felt it a bit slow - but the story was well written, characters well developed and believable and the story just kept me on the edge of my seat.

Totally worth the read, one of my favorite thrillers of ‘24!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this phenomenal thriller in exchange for my honest review!

I don’t typically read mysteries/thrillers but this one was incredible. Every time you think you figured something out, you’re wrong. You’d think that the characters have multiple personality disorder or are bipolar by the way their mood or behavior changes so quickly. The characters are so complex and full of so many secrets. I gasped out loud so many times reading this. Rachel Lynch definitely knows how to keep you wanting to read more and coming up with more unanswered questions as you read. In the end, everything comes full circle and the truth always comes out

I have been a fan of Rachel Joyce’s D.I. Kelly Porter police procedural series for some time now, so when I learned she had released a stand-alone novel, I was eager to read it.

“The Secret Inheritance” has a very different vibe when compared to her series fiction. While reading I felt it similar to the work of Kate Morton, or Eve Chase.

Rosie Fitzherbert is a successful crime novelist who writes under a pseudonym. For the past few decades she has been mute and uses notes to communicate with others. She can speak – she just chooses not to.

When her father passes away, Rosie makes the journey back to her family home for the reading of his will. The family is a very wealthy one, and their home is a large manor house. Though wealthy herself, she learns that she and her siblings must stay in Warbury House together for a week in order to learn the contents of her father’s will.

Her older sister Hettie is under the impression that the estate will go to her and her family. She feels it is her birthright and she is the only sibling that has children. Her brother James is an attorney. Though he is gay, he brings along a friend to pose as his fiance, thinking this would give him more of a chance at the inheritance.

All three siblings were neglected by their parents. They were sent away to boarding schools at a very early age. When they did come home, they were essentially raised by Clara, the housekeeper. Clara stills resides in Warbury House.

There was another brother named Christian who died in his teens. Mystery surrounds his death and Rosie was traumatized by events surrounding it.

When the four siblings were children they endured varying degrees of abuse by their parents. Some of the scenes are very dark indeed.

This is an excellent novel for readers who enjoy reading about dysfunctional families with many family secrets gradually exposed. Sibling rivalry, avarice, secrets and lies – the foundations for many a good read.

Rachel Lynch’s The Secret Inheritance is a gripping family drama wrapped in a tense psychological thriller. When Rosie Fitzherbert returns to Warbury House after decades of self-imposed exile, she is forced to confront not only her estranged siblings but also the dark secrets buried within the estate’s walls—secrets tied to the tragic death of her brother, Christian.

Lynch expertly weaves a tale of betrayal, grief, and long-held resentment, keeping readers on edge as the Fitzherbert family’s tensions boil over. Rosie is a compelling protagonist, her silence a powerful symbol of trauma, making her journey toward the truth all the more poignant. The novel’s atmospheric setting—an old estate filled with memories and hidden motives—adds a gothic undertone that enhances the suspense.

With its slow-burning tension, emotionally complex characters, and shocking revelations, The Secret Inheritance is perfect for fans of The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. A haunting and immersive read, it explores whether facing the past can truly set us free.

While it took me a while to get into the audiobook of this; more to do with my state of mind and not the book, this was a really interesting story looking at how jealousy and secrets pit members of a family against each other.

When the patriarch of the family dies, everyone strives to look after their own interests in relation to the rather insignificant sum of £50million expected inheritance. As the story proceeds though we see how the siblings have each taken effort to increase their chances of success, forming alliances which initially seem to be of their own choice (and to their shared advantage) but as the tale continues seem not to be.

Having each endured hardship in childhood, the echoes of these serve to separate and finally unify the siblings albeit possibly too late.

Highlighting how early trauma can last a life time, this is a sad demonstration of how a family can pull itself apart.

After the death of their Father Jude, 3 siblings, James, Hettie and Rosie go back to the family home for the will reading. But Jude had a final trick for them as they have to stay in the house for a week to be able to claim the inheritance.
But the 3 adults are all fairly manipulative and soon long dragged out secrets of their childhood are brought to the surface with tragic results.
I'm really not sure what I made of the book, the writing is pretty intense and this meant I didn't particularly like the characters, none of them seemed to have any redeeming features but this became apparent towards the end it's because of their Fathers actions.
I found it an easy read

So much family drama!

Reunited at their family home for the reading of their father’s will, the story revolves around estranged siblings, Hettie, Rosie, and James. The story is told from different perspectives, in both past and present. Each sibling has secrets, but the long held family secrets are what threatens everyone. While the premise of the story was what I expected, this is a dark domestic thriller with many heavy topics and scenes which caught me off guard. I found many parts uncomfortable and difficult to get through. I powered through and was satisfied with the ending, but unfortunately this book was not for me.

A family in turmoil accurately describes Rosie’s family. After the death of her father she is to return “home” for the reading of the will. She hasn’t seen or spoken to Hettie, her sister, in years. She and James speak, but not a lot. This family is filled with secrets and assumptions .. and we know what assuming does. Well written, great characters, The Secret Inheritance kept me engaged right until the end.

This was a captivating read that centred around Warbury House. There are a good many secrets that involved the three siblings, Hettie, James and Rosie, now on their late 30s and 40s. It also involved the housekeeper, Clara and the butler, Michael. The household had been ruled by their late father, Jude, who wanted everything done his way. There are flashbacks to their memories of a harsh school and home life. The secrets are gradually revealed as well as an ongoing scheme. I felt I just had to keep reading and did wonder what the eventual outcome would be. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one was just decent for me. I felt the characters were real and raw but I also feel like the hatred the siblings had towards each other was too intense. Overall the story was pretty good.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

I hated every single character in this book. All of them are simply horrific to each other - and to think they're family! This was definitely not for me, but if you like gothic stories, you might like it. It felt oppressive while reading. You could guess the outcome way before the ending. I admit I skim-read almost the entire book. I love this author's DI Kelly Porter series so much which is why I gave this one a chance.

Thrilling: check
Well written: check
Gripping: double check

Thoughts: My gosh Jude and his wife screwed up their kids! I struggle to enjoy a book that had absolutely no redeeming characters and this was just that. Three stars - though really 2.5 - because it wasn’t a total flop, as I mentioned it was well written, and it was gripping - I had to know what happened. But man, that whole family needs extensive therapy. Dark twisted people.

Rosie Fitzherbert has just been told that her father has died and she must return to the family home along with her siblings Hettie and James, and their families, to be told of their inheritance. Rosie left Warbury House the day her younger brother Christian died and she hasn't been back since, it's also the day she stopped talking and she wonders if her return will change that. The siblings are told on their arrival that they must spend seven days in each other's company and live in harmony or they won't get a penny, but as past secrets begin to unfold which of them will crack first and will the truth about Christian's death be revealed?

The Secret Inheritance is Lynch's latest book and is full of suspense and intrigue. Told from the perspectives of each of the siblings, the author delves into the past and present of the Fitzherbert family and uncovers a plethora of secrets, some of which have lay hidden for decades. Jude Fitzherbert wasn't a decent father and even now, from beyond the grave, he's still managing to control his children and is partly responsible for the adults they've become. This is a well written book with some really dark twists along the way, albeit a slow burner that took me a while to get through and I didn't gel with any of the characters, I've seen some dysfunctional families but this one tops them all!

I'd like to thank Storm Publishing and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.

Hope you are in for a wild ride? This book is an amazing thrill ride from the start. I know families are not all close and fun loving people. Families are made up of lots of unique characters some chemically imbalanced and some what we would called normal. This family has so many deep dark secrets that the reader might think you can guess them but let me tell you that you can't! In The Secret Inheritance Jude Fitzherbert is lying on his death bed and literally getting ready to take his last breathe as he is dying of cancer. He has masses in is throat that make it very difficult to swallow and he his trying to say something for the last time. What? He has asked Clara , the house keeper, where his four children are and whether or not they ever bothered to come see him? Clara has informed that he has three children and no they didn't come to see him. He then said," I am so cold." She tells him she will be back in a moment with another blanket for him. When she comes back into the room he has gone. Clara gets a hold of the lawyers office so they may get a hold of each of the children and up hold the will and testament of Mr. Fitzherbert. Hettie is the oldest daughter and the only daughter that has any children of her own. Three to be precise, Kitty, Benji, and Pippa. She is married to Edward and they were married at Warbury House which is where Hettie's family is from. After Hettie was informed she informed her sister and her brother. Rosie is a writer much like her father was/ She writes mystery novels and is a very big success. She lives by herself other than her dog Jonnie whom she adopted a few months prior. Rosie has long ago taken to a life of silence. She only communicates through emails or letters. This is how her sister has gotten a hold of her to inform her of their fathers passing. She, at first refuses to read the letter and throws it on the ground. James is a criminal lawyer in London England and he is a partner in three law firms. He is best friends with Donny Salvatore and he is a drug lord and James protects him as well as Donny protect James. James his living a lie as he is a gay man and trying to keep it hidden from his family. His father used to try to beat it out of him when he found out about it. Hettie called James to let him know about their father and to also let him know that they all needed to be present and accounted for before the will and testament could or would be read. That includes any spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, and or children. In essence this book is about a family is comes together for the reading of a will and to see what they might get or not. They also hate one sister so much and they come together and find out all the lies and secrets that the house has in store for each of them. Such a twisted family dynamic and such a fun read! Highly recommend! Thank You Rachel Lynch Happy Reading!!

This book has a slow start because none of the siblings are likeable, but it's well worth the read so stick with it.

Three siblings must return to their childhood home to settle their father's estate. All share a childhood of neglect from their parents, and are scarred by the trauma of their brother's death which happened as a teenager. It's that death that which causes feelings that range from needing revenge to punishing the others.

The book description makes like this is from one viewpoint (Rosie) but the book is really from three different viewpoints: James, a lawyer; Hettie, married with three kids (who comes on the visit with their dad); and Rosie, an author who has chosen to be mute. You quickly get a feel that none of these people are exactly sane and there is a taste of the Unreliable Narrator happening with them.

What's fascinating is we get each sibling's viewpoint which all have distorted memories that aren't quite the truth. Only by piecing everything together does the picture grow clear on what happened to Christian on that long ago summer's day.

The secrets all fit together but are unlikely to be sussed out by the reader, keeping you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. This is a book that really deserves to be a movie due to the creepy gothic atmosphere and the layers of secrets that each person brings to the bigger story.

Some things I did not like but since they are spoilers I will hide them behind a click.

The reason for the lack of a star is that the characters are unlikeable until you get to know them which slows down your interest in reading about them.

I also found the demise of the villain at the end way too much like an out you'd read in an Agatha Christie book - who always killed off her aristo villains since there was never enough evidence to convict them (see Christie's Crooked House). The noble death was also so out of character and as a slapped-on redemption it didn't work for me.

THE SECRET INHERITANCE by Rachel Lynch was a thrill ride that kept me from doing my daily chores. I loved it.!

When Rosie Fitzherbert’s younger brother, Christian died years ago, she fled the family home and hasn’t been heard from since. I mean she is selectively mute now and has had no contact with her father, Jude, sister, Hettie or brother, James. When Jude passes away, everyone must come together for the reading of the will. But Jude had some stipulations in the will that may keep one or all from collecting his millions.

Oldest sister, Hettie wants Warbury House and feels it is her birthright. She and husband, Edward have spent years renovating the place in their minds. Brother James, a defence attorney, arrives with his ‘fiancé’ to claim his millions but he is hiding who he truly is to live up to his father‘s expectations, even in death. Rosie, a hugely successful but surreptitious crime author just wants to fly under the radar and again leave Warbury House without a backward glance. And overseeing it all is Clara, the housekeeper who raised the children, and Ian Balfar, Jude’s estate attorney. As Jude makes his presence known from the grave, the secrets and lies hidden within the mansion walls begin to be exposed.

Can Rosie put the pieces together to find out what really happened to Christian 13 years ago? Will Hettie’s children unwittingly help this crime author learn the truth?

I loved this book! The writing was clear and concise which led to an enjoyable read. As with my previous Rachael Lynch novels, I was on the edge of my seat and stayed up well past bedtime turning pages. The twists kept me guessing throughout as I thought it was going one way, and it went in a completely different direction. To me, that’s the sign of a master storyteller. I can’t wait to see where this author takes me next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.

This story follows the Fitzherbert children- all grown now- as they are called back to home for the reading of their father's will. They all have secrets and anxieties and hidden agendas about returning. This book sounded so intriguing to me. I love a past/present timeline, and intricately woven family secrets that are a the center of a story/mystery. However, this did not work for me.
It is told through the multiple POV of the three children, Hettie, Rosie and James. I do not mind multiple POV stories, but this dragged. It was all told through thoughts, inner dialo0gue, and examination of their childhood through each persons perspective. Little nuggets of clues were dropped along within each narrative, but trying to keep all the characters and their pasts straight was a little daunting. I also found that I did not like one single character.

The subject matter in this novel is very dark. I felt suppressed the whole time reading it. I like a dark novel, but usually find that there is interesting action and a fast pace to get me through it. Because this novel is presented mainly through thoughts, with no real interaction until the end, it took me forever to read this.

I am giving 2 stars, because as I got to the end, it was very interesting, and the conclusion had a tiny surprise.

I want to say that I am a complete outlier in reviews of this book, and I urge you to read other reviews because maybe this is the book for you.

Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC. This is my voluntary and honest review.

“The Secret Inheritance” by Rachel Lynch is an atmospheric standalone family drama that mixes mystery, suspense, and emotion. I love the DI Kelly Porter series by this author so had no hesitation picking this one up to read.

Rosie Fitzherbert has been estranged from her family since the tragic death of her brother Christian. After years of silence and self-imposed exile, Rosie returns to Warbury House following the death of her father. Once there she will need to face her past and the difficult relationships with her siblings, Hettie and James.

Warbury House is an excellent setting adding atmosphere to the story that is full of intrigue. The relationships between the siblings is very tense which is made worse by the will which stipulates they must stay at the house for seven days to secure their inheritance. What follows is an emotional battle with Rosie dealing with her past and unresolved grief. What is the truth regarding Christian’s death and how will it affect what remains of the siblings delicate relationships.

The story is well written and perfectly paced, full of interesting characters with plenty of intrigue.

With the inheritance at stake Rosie will have to face her past and the reasons that drove her away from Warbury House. The tension builds as the family secrets are revealed making this a very enjoyable read.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Storm Publishing for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Three adult children return to Warbury House, the estate they grew up in after the death of their overbearing father. Rosie suffered traumas in her past that caused her to choose never to speak again. Jude was shamed for his sexuality and never received his father’s approval, even after becoming a prominent attorney. Hettie remained closest to her father, foregoing a career to raise her three kids. Now they have to tolerate each other as they come home to hear the reading of the will. But will they be able to put aside the past to ensure the future of Warbury House for the generations to come?

The story itself was enjoyable but the characters weren't exactly likeable. Rosie is the closest to being the main character but her choice not to speak makes her a bit unsufferable. Jude isn't too remarkable one way or the other except for pretending to be straight so he'll be eligible for the inheritance. And Hettie is just self-absorbed and irritable. The big mystery throughout the book is how their youngest brother, Christian, died. There's an official story of course, but you know there's going to be more to it. So you spend the story trying to figure out what secrets each sibling is keeping. You may be wrong about some of them!

It held my interest throughout and it wasn't too predictable. Anyone who gets a kick out of dysfunctional families will appreciate this story. I'd read more by this author based on how I enjoyed this one so hopefully there will be more to come.

What a read! I can easily say that this is one of my favourite reads of the year, and that's saying something.

This is the first book I have read by this author, but most definitely an author I will now be stalking 🤣. I absolutely LOVED the writing style. The ebbs and flows of intrigue just had me hooked completely from the get-go, and the curiosity it emitted was just superb.

When their father Jude passes away, the three siblings convene to their childhood home, Warbury House, for the will to be read. But their is a stipulation in place. The siblings and their families must stay at their family home for a week before they find out what they are entitled to.

None of the siblings actually need the rumoured five million. The eldest Hettie is a (un)happily married mother to her three children, James is a successful lawyer, but being gay was not accepted by his father so brings along his face fiancée and Rosie, the youngest is a (secret) world renowned author. Selectively mute, she struggles with the thought of being around so many people for that long.

Told from several perspectives and timelines, this is a story of sibling rivalry, greed, secrets, lies, and topics that are deep and disturbing.

A twisty, atmospheric, gripping tale that I will highly recommend to anyone who loves a psychological family thriller.

Huge thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC.

The Secret Inheritance follows the interactions of three estranged siblings after the death of their father.

The description for the book makes it sound like the story is told from a singular viewpoint - Rosie's. However, the story is actually told from no less than six different viewpoints - Rosie, Hettie, James, Clara, Edward and Sarah. I found this made the book feel very convoluted and, especially in the first half of the book, near enough the exact same information was told from several viewpoints. This unfortunately made the very slow pace more obvious and tedious (the story doesn't really start progressing until about 45% of the way through the book, with the first 45% mostly being the same bits of backstory repeated by each of the siblings).

There is a lot of animosity, blame, secrets, jealousy and betrayal between the characters. Pitted against each other as children by their father, with a mother who was no better, the siblings learned to be distrustful of each other. The only characters I found likeable were Hettie's three children (who play a minor role in the story). I started off feeling sympathy for Rosie, but as the story progressed, I found her to be as unbearable and unlikeable as her siblings and Clara, the housekeeper. I think the author was aiming for some sort of reconciliation and character improvement towards the end, but it felt forced and unnatural.

Unfortunately, I found the story to be very predictable, guessing most of the plot points way before they happened.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for providing a review copy of this book.

The premise of The Secret Inheritance by Rachel Lynch is brilliant. The dark atmosphere in a dreary unloved house hooked me immediately. Warbury (clever!) House holds layer upon layer of unsettling family secrets. Told in multiple perspectives in different times, darkness is eerily prevalent in the story and characters. The children are the bright spot but even then there is a pervasive heaviness. Well constructed.

Siblings Rosie, Hettie and James meet at Warbury House as their father Jude has stipulated they live there seven days after his death. They were asked to take their families along as well. Rosie hasn't spoken for years but she isn't the only one affected by childhood trauma. The three have dealt with abuse and cope differently, choosing individual paths, building their lives. Money indeed cannot buy happiness. Secrets bubble to the surface and must be confronted, especially about the mysterious fourth sibling.

The characters are unlikeable but the family dynamics are fascinating. I like the atmosphere and psychological bits. Though the story is riveting, there are a few descriptions of abuse which permeated the pages. I like dark but this had a certain edge which took away some of my reading enjoyment.

My sincere thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this engrossing novel.

Rachel Lynch's "The Secret Inheritance" isn't your typical family drama. It's a captivating tapestry of interwoven secrets and betrayals, a story that unfolds like a meticulously crafted puzzle.

The novel follows a group of estranged siblings who are reunited after the death of their eccentric grandmother. As they delve into her enigmatic past, they uncover a web of long-buried secrets, hidden family feuds, and a forgotten inheritance that threatens to tear them apart.

Lynch masterfully crafts a cast of complex and flawed characters, each harboring their own secrets and grappling with the weight of the past. The narrative shifts seamlessly between past and present, revealing the layers of deception and the enduring impact of family dynamics. "The Secret Inheritance" is a slow-burn that gradually builds tension, leaving the reader constantly guessing and questioning the motives of each sibling.

The novel is a poignant exploration of grief, forgiveness, and the enduring power of family ties. Lynch's prose is elegant and evocative, drawing the reader into the intimate world of her characters and their shared history.

The Secret Inheritance was a novel of family tragedies and family secrets.

Patriarch Jude Fitzherbert has died, and now his dysfunctional children, Hettie, James and Rosie are comiing to Warbury House for the reading of his will. Each one of his children is damaged by their childhood, and Jude’s cruel behavior. Rosie a sucessful novelist does not speak, James a successful barrister leads a damaging double life, and Hettie is busy trying to be the perfect wife and mother while barely hanging onto her sanity. Each of them have a secret from their childhood that defines them, the death of their younger brother Christian geing a catalyst for a lot of the dark secrets. When they arrive at their father’s home, they are informed they have to spend a week together in harmony, easier said than done as each one of them have scores to settle.

This was an interesting book. I will say that most of the characters were not very likeable but as each of the traumas that they endured was revealed, I found sympathy for them. The ending was bittersweet but felt cathartic for some of the characters.

Thanks to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and the author for the chance to read and review this ARC.

The Secret Inheritance
By: Rachel Lynch

4 Stars

From the title and throughout, this story drips with mystery. Each new character brings to this story family drama, secrets, danger, and revenge. A father dies. An inheritance is left. Soon, these siblings find out more secrets about their family than they ever thought they knew. Nothing is as it seems. Soon, these siblings will find out truths that have been kept for years and will change them all.

This story was a really interesting read. It dripped with mystery from all directions. Each character had their own mystery surrounding them as well as the mystery of Christian, that seemed to wrap around the entire estate and everyone there. It was fast-paced and well written with a set of dynamic and colorful characters that really made the story all the better. Warbury House is set in a beautiful landscape that is filled with the dark and pain of the lingering past. It made cry and rage and kept me on the edge of my seat.

*I want to thank Netgalley and the author for this book in return for my honest review*

Not your average frothy summer read!

This fast-paced novel makes for an ideal summer read, pulling you in from the first chapter and refusing to let go. At its core, it’s a layered exploration of flawed, complex characters navigating heavy themes like generational trauma, strained family dynamics, depression, and the legacies of privilege—including the damaging effects of old-money beliefs and ingrained homophobia.

One of the most compelling threads throughout the story is the way it captures the pain and ripple effects of human miscommunication. Misunderstandings—both spoken and unspoken—shape the characters’ relationships and decisions in profound ways, often deepening the emotional tension and sense of isolation between them.

What stood out to me was how often my loyalties shifted. Just when I thought I knew who to root for, a new twist or revelation would challenge my perspective. The story is full of surprises, and the ending—completely unexpected—lingered with me long after I turned the final page, prompting some personal reflection on identity, family, and the baggage we all carry.
