P. K. Balakrishnan (1926–1991) was a Malayalam novelist, critic and historian. His multifaceted interests took him through politics, journalism, public speaking and creative writing. He was a patriot who gave up his studies for the freedom of the country.

ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയും കേരളചരിത്രവും പോലെ അതിഗഹനമായ രചനകൾ പുറത്തുവന്ന തൂലികയിൽ നിന്നും ഒട്ടും പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല ആത്മകഥാംശമുള്ള, ഇത്രയും ലളിതഭാഷയിലുള്ള ഒരു എഴുത്ത്. കഥയിലെ സംഭവവികാസങ്ങൾ അത്ര രസിപ്പിച്ചൊന്നുമില്ലെങ്കിലും, അതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള നോവലിസ്റ്റിന്റെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുകളും ഇടയ്ക്കുള്ള ആത്മവിശകലനങ്ങളും രസകരമായിത്തന്നെ തോന്നി.

The short novel is about a dog coming into the life of author and how it's life changes over time. The dog was sold as a special breed but it turned out to be a stray dog. As it grows up it becomes a big nuisance to the family and people around them. But the dog always showed special love for the author.

Though the novel is supposed to have inner meanings as mentioned in the study added in the novel, I am not sure I understood it as I read the novel.

An unusual story of a ordinary dog and its master who disowned him. We rarely get this sort of creative and imaginative narration. A small but extremely beautiful book that every Malayali can cherish.

പ്ലൂട്ടോ എന്ന വളർത്തുനായയാണ് കേന്ദ്രകഥാപാത്രം. കഥാകാരൻ, അൽസേഷ്യൻ എന്ന് പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ച് വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന് വളർത്തുന്നത് ഒരു സാധാരണ നായയെയാണ്. ഇത് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അദ്ദേഹം നാട്ടുകാരിൽ നിന്നും കളിയാക്കലുകൾ നേരിട്ടതിൻ്റെ വിഷമത്തിൽ, നായയെ ഒരുപാട് തല്ലുകയും ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. നാളുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം തിരികെ നാട്ടിൽ എത്തുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം കാണുന്നത്, എല്ലാവരും തള്ളിപ്പറഞ്ഞ തൻ്റെ പ്ലൂട്ടോ, ഇന്ന് ആ നാട്ടിൽ എല്ലാവരുടെയും കണ്ണിലുണ്ണിയായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
പ്ലൂട്ടോ എന്ന നായയുടെ കഥയും, കഥാകാരനുമായി ആ നായക്കുള്ള ഗാഢമായ ബന്ധവുമാണ് പി.കെ. ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ ഈ നോവലിൽ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

Very very interesting book. PKB sir is one of my favorite writer. His comical comparisons are really praiseworthy. The story revolves around the author himself and his affection with a dog which he mistakenly buys for an Alsatian. The setting is simple. But the way of story telling is way beyond excellent. Everyone should read it. Its worth it.

ഒരു ഹാസ്യ നോവൽ എന്നു കരുതി വായിച്ചുതുടങ്ങിയെങ്കിലും അധികം ഹാസ്യം കാണാനായില്ല. ഒരു ചെറിയ കഥ, ലളിതമായി പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
