Born and raised in Chicago, IL, writing has always been a passion for Jessica Cage. She dabbles in artistic creations of all sorts but at the end of the day, it's the pen that her hand itches to hold. Jessica had never considered following her dream to be a writer because she was told far too often "There is no money in writing." So she chose the path most often traveled. During pregnancy she asked herself an important question. How would she be able to inspire her unborn son to follow his dreams and reach for the stars, if she never had the guts to do it herself? Jessica decided to take a risk and unleash the plethora of characters and their crazy adventurous worlds that had previously existed only in her mind, into the realm of readers. She did this with hopes to inspire not only her son but herself. Inviting the world to tag along on her journey to become the writer she has always wanted to be. She hopes to continue writing and bringing her signature Caged Fantasies to readers everywhere.
Jessica Cage delivers a hilariously wild and spicy adventure in I Accidentally Hooked Up with a Vampire 🧛🏽♂️🔥. As someone who typically isn’t a fan of rom-coms (because they usually miss the funny mark for me 😒), this one absolutely hit the spot 🎯! If you’re after a book with equal parts spice 🌶️, plot 📚, and perfectly timed humor 😂, this is definitely for you.
One of my favorite parts was the fun character crossover from I Accidentally Summoned a Demon Boyfriend 😈. We get to see Rayna as the fierce FMC 💁🏽♀️, her quirky blue pet Piko 🐾💙, and the ever-helpful witch Likosa 🔮. Even though these books are standalones, they are interconnected with recurring characters, so I highly recommend reading them in order to get the full experience 📖✨.
My favorite character? Without a doubt, Maverick 🐈⬛🐉 he’s just too lovable and chaotic not to mention.
Here are some standout quotes that had me cackling 😂: • “That’s what happens when you’re not a girl’s girl! May her lace never melt and her scalp always itch! 👩🏽🦱🔥” • “Walk in there with your head high, but not too cocky because, you know, melanin ✊🏽✨.” • “You tell me. I don’t know what happens when a vampire can’t bite! Is this like vampire E.D.? 🦷💀”
Jessica Cage truly knows how to balance humor, heat, and heart ❤️🔥. I’ll definitely be diving back into this universe again! 🥳📚 *Thank you so so much for the arc*
I read this in one sitting and I had the absolute best time.
—vampire romance —funny af —likeable characters —on KU —THE SPICE WAS SO GOOD
Highly recommend I Accidentally Hooked Up With A Vampire if you’re in the mood for a vampire romance set in a modern world, with a FMC you will fall in love with, along with an MMC that will make YOU SWOON. I laughed, blushed, and swooned all at the same time while reading this book. The pacing was spot on, the romance felt tangible, the spice was HOT, the characters you couldn’t help but absolutely love, and this book is an overall really good time. Also, the friend group that Whitney has. 10/10, would want to be friends with all of them in real life.
I went into this book completely blind, I just saw a rec video on tiktok, and I’m glad I read this because it’s exactly what I needed.
I did give it 4/5 stars because I did real like the pacing was off at times, and it could have flowed just a little bit better BUT OTHER THAN THAT. LOVED. You need to read this immediately.
Also one of my fave characters was definitely Maverick. Reminded me of my Maine coon and it’s just hilarious.
I accidentally hooked up with a vampire by Jessica Cage -Ouuu girl you get right into the story and I love it. Jessica’s writing truly has you feeling like you’re in her head. -Whitney is a boss ass realtor and her life imploaded which truly made me feel seen as a black women in her 20s even tho she’s in her 30s -Mr.James sounds so fine he gives BDE baby and I’m all about it. -the spice was perfection and we got into it very quickly which I was not expecting but I’m not complaining because slayyyyy -this book had me intrigued but also cackling -Whitney is straight forward, if I had a Domino James I’d probably do the same lol -Wow this spice is an all you can eat buffet 🤪😂🫶🏾 -I loved their connection and banter , I love that he sees and understands her -I love maverick the cat 🐈😂🫶🏾 -this was a fun, hilarious and spicy story Jessica did it again with this one 🫶🏾❤️🔥👏🏾 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love the opening. As a Black 6’2 plus size corporate baddie I see myself in the FMC which is very unusual for me.
There’s a minor breaking of the 3rd wall I’m enjoying. It feels like I’m on FaceTime with a home girl for real.
It moved a bit fast in the beginning but limited space I understand.
Vampires, Aliens, hunters, witches, demons?! What don’t this book have?!
This book made me chuckle out loud!
It does feel like it moved a bit fast in the middle and it’s hard to keep up. I had to re-read a chapter twice because there was just so much happening.
So I actually DNF'd this around 83% ... I know. I know. You all are thinking I should've finished it, but man, I struggled to make it that far. It took me from the time to book dropped until today to get as far as I did, and I just started to get bored. Keep in mind, I read an almost 800-page book in less than 36 hours, and that's between work, student life, being a mom, and a wife. It's all about engagement. The beginning starts off decent, and somewhere after the best friend being a vampire slayer, it just fell flat. It's pretty much the same storyline as the first book. Ehh ... maybe next time.
I really liked this book. It was a quick cute read but also laugh out loud funny and entertaining. I did not expect to like it this much. Can I get a Domino?
Let's be real. Nobody has been able to pleasantly surprise me like Jessica Cage! This vampire is not your typical vamp and this woman…smh if I keep going, I’ll spill the beans. You will have to read it yourself. 🥵
Trust me when I say that you will be pleasantly pleased how things twist and turn! 🤭.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“If I ever denied the freak allegations, that proved me to be a liar.” “Don’t let fear make the choice for you.” “This isn’t a damsel in distress story. She is more than capable of handling this on her own.” “All parts of myself have been modified by your existence. I would do anything you asked of me.”
Thank you to the author for an E-ARC! Omg! Wow! I am obsessed with this series so much, this story is laugh out loud funny, and filled with lovable characters, hilarious FMC, lovable and caring friendships, sexy / hot dominant MMC, and a fast paced plot that keeps you on your toes!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this so much and I flew through this so quickly because it was just as diabolical , unserious, action packed, spicy, and extremely a funny good time!!!!!
The pacing and development of the story starts off so strong and I was intrigued from the very start! I loved the way Domino and Whitney clicked instantly, Domino’s dominance and entrance into the story had me obsessed with him from the jump! Their attraction with one another and vibe was so hot and fun! Their banter albeit is unusual and actually funny, this is definitely a rom com, you will definitely laugh at their obnoxious banter!
Whitney, oh yeah she is the perfect FMC, her confidence and the way she adapted to her life turning upside down was so intriguing ! She is funny, and she never shied away from the turn of events!
Maverick!! Ugh love him so much, this author always adds a cute protective animal within the plot and i’m here for it! Maverick did not disappoint and was perfect!
Lena and Jackie!! Wow wow! Love them so much! Their funny interactions with Whitney and unwavering support for each other was so pure and loving! I truly loved how close their friendship was and the multiple surprises and easter eggs surrounding them! Jackie was absolutely so funny and her digs / jabs / smart remarks throughout the story was the comic relief I didn’t know I needed!
Also the action scenes in this!!! *chefs kiss* the author really set the tone and was able to describe those scenes so well, it felt like I was watching a movie as I read.
& The spice scenes??? Whew! Domino is that man, and I’ll leave it at that.
Stars and Chili Peppers are hard for me because they're so relative to the reader, rather than being a true measure of the book itself. When I enjoy a book and it makes me want to read more of the author's books, I'm giving it five stars. There are definitely explicit sex scenes but they felt...rushed(?) to me.
Normally, my vibe is a lot darker than this kind of book but I applied to review an ARC because (1) I want to read more from authors of color and (2) I needed something light and sexy as a palate cleanser.
This book follows Whitney, an art broker who, as the title promises, accidentally hooked up with a vampire. The story line takes a turn that makes the plot more complex than I was expecting from a book that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Things I Loved:
- the representation of less than perfect bodies, including the main characters. - the explanation for why the main characters catch feelings so fast - the surprising plot line - the realness/authenticity of the characters. The FMC reacts like a person really would rather than with unquestioning acceptance.
10/10 would recommend as a fun (and funny) and sexy read that features some supernatural elements.
***** Potential Spoiler Below ****
The plot line that didn't make that much sense is the one with the sister. Since she doesn't feature in the beginning of the book (mentioned only once), Whitney's concern over her feels too intense.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was fun to read. I giggled a few times at the characters. Domino and Whitney had more sexual chemistry than love but I get the vampires love at first sight thing vs humans not so much.
I loved the initial love hate relationship with Whitney and Maverick. I loved the friendship between Lena Jackie and Whitney. I feel like the ending was kinda drawn out but still overall good story.
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this one more than the first one. It’s funny, cute, and has a touch of action. I believe she’s found her groove for this series. I look forward to reading the next installment if she decides to continue the series
“If he’s talking about going fifty-fifty with you, I’ll stake him right now!” - from the mouth of Our book Bestie Jackie 🤣
If you read book #1. Rayna, Metice our hellish fur baby piko, and miss freak deaky magical witchy woo Likosa all make an appearance in book #2. Rayna comes face to face with THE author who wrote the book she read that summoned metice and drug her straight to hell. 🤣 And baby what a ride it was! A time was definitely HAD! 😅
In this book We meet Whitney 👽 and her Besties Lena 🧪and Jackie 🗡️. We all have friends just like them. I was crying laughing at them going back and forth and just the overall conversations/interactions. Last, but certainly not least. We meet the one and only Domino 🩸 Whitney’s vampire boo thang. 🤭
Get ready for orgasms by the ocean, LOTS of plot twist, secrets, and all the things you’ve ever wanted to know about Vampires. This book was ACTION packed, you won’t be able to put it down once you start it.
WHEN WE SAY REPRESENTATION MATTERS? Oh, baby. This puts it into perspective. 🖤 This was a laugh out loud, for the culture fantasy read and I enjoyed every page of it. - Walk in with your head high, not but too cocky because you know, MELANIN.”. AMEN! 🙌🏾
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC copy. Thank you Jessica Cage for allowing me to read it before it made its debut. I am grateful! 🥹 I’m excited for all the other girlies to read it next month.
If you loved the first book of this series I can PROMISE you’ll love book 2! THIS WAS BETTER! It was wittier, funnier, and just as spicy. I also love how the character from book 1 was incorporated in this storyline. It was fantastic. I enjoyed myself so much. If I wasn’t so busy and had to stop I would have finished this in one sitting. Please keep writing this series! I need to get physical copies now!
Another really fun book in this Accidents Happen series!! I found that this one didn't have me laughing out loud as much as the first book but it still definitely had its moments! It's spicy, and the scenes are really well done. The narrator is excellent! I could listen to her all day.. and I did!
Thank you Simon Maverick for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.
I went into this book completely blind, and oh damn—it was so good and so funny. The story itself was super cheesy, but the writing, the characters, and just everything about it were done so well. I devoured it in one sitting!
This book was funny! I loved the hilarious banter between the friend group Whitney, Jackie, and Lena had such great chemistry. It was a cute paranormal rom-com with some unexpected twists. If you're not in the best mood, I'd recommend this one as a quick pick-me-up.
I’m glad I got my hands on an advanced copy of this book! I really had a good time with Whitney and Domino. I also really enjoyed the way the first book got tied in with this one and the connections that were made.
Domino is a sweetheart of a man who was respectful, sexy and well put together. Whitney is just a woman trying to make her mark and get her life back on track.
The spice scenes were also well written and they added a lot of depth to Domino’s character. Really reinforced that he was a great guy.
I’m not going to spoil anything… I’ll just say I can see the series setting up nicely based on this book.
This was a fun read that helped me get my mind back into a good space.
During a party for one her best friends Whitney meets the oh so sexy gallery owner Domino. After a few drinks, many many orgasms, and one angry cat later Whitney finds out monsters do exist.
This crew ❤️❤️This is absolutely the friend group that you want to be a part of. Although Lena and Jackie may have held a few truths from Whitney it was done out of love and with the best intentions. Jackie is definitely that loud mouth friend you have to warn people about beforehand
I truly love Jessica’s writing style. She knows how to bring the perfect blend of comedy, plot, and spice. Did I cackle like a hen at Whitney and her friends interactions? Why yes I did. Did I devour this book in one sitting because the storyline had me hooked? Yes again. And did my body do things whenever Dominic and Whitney got down and nasty? Abso-freaking-lutely
We even got a some crossover characters from I accident summoned a demon boyfriend ☺️ oh and a new pet Maverick 🐈
Another 5⭐️ for Jessica! This was such a fun read.
Art broker Whitney is new out of a job and thinking about what comes next when she attends an event at a fancy art gallery. Little does she know that the handsome owner has his eye on her and not just as a professional rival.
There is so much to love about this book. The characters are relatable and hilarious. The banter and dialogue were top tier. I laughed out loud so many times while reading. The story was engaging and so much fun to go along for the magical ride.
And the spice in the book was definitely spicing! I love a vampire romance and this one did not disappoint, the fangs were definitely put to good use!
This book (and series) are amazing if you love witty banter, fun action filled plots, and vampire spice!
꧁༒☬ Okay, to be fair, to be fair, this book wasn’t inherently bad. It’s just not the kind of book I’d ever give more than 3 stars. I was actually planning on giving it 3 stars, but by the end, I was just so bored out of my mind.
꧁༒☬ At the beginning, it was funny, and I was into it. But then, when it hit the middle, it just felt like… this book did not need to be that long.
꧁༒☬ Idk it really started dragging towards the end like let’s wrap it up already
So I knocked off 0.5 stars for that and rounded down to 2, because honestly, even the romance was kinda eh. It felt too lusty. I know you’re thinking “obviously look at the title” 🫨
But still, I feel like there should’ve been some spark or something.Instead, it was just sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex. And as a smut hater, it wasn’t doing it for me.
꧁༒☬ I had a fun time tho. I’m now intrigued enough to read the first book
finished it by full willpower. There was way too much happening in this booka nd the pace was wayy too quick and it felt like no one was giving the main character time and space to deal with the clusterfuck she was handed. Establishment of mythology was iffy at best and the banter felt misplaced for the seriousness of what was happening.. second book ive read from this author and i remain unmoved. sigh
I have to say this book was just ok. The love story was cute but lacked depth. The spicy scenes felt clunky and rushed. Also the banter was happening more with the friend Jackie and MMC more than the couple. Idk read it if you like quirky paranormal romances. It just didn’t do it for me.
3.5 ⭐ I want to begin this by thanking Jessica Cage and her team for allowing me to review this book and providing a free copy via Booksprout. I want to quickly disclaim that pretty much all of my opinions about this book are incredibly dependent on my emotions while reading and personal preferences. In all honesty, I see a great number of people really enjoying the things that just didn't work for me.
I have been reading vampire stories since I first discovered Wattpad when I was 12 years old and it is such a treat to finally be finding good vampire romances with a truly diverse cast of characters. The premise of this story was so fun and interesting and I really enjoyed the way it tied in and connected to the first book. I enjoyed the humour and the banter between the characters quickly became one of my favourite aspects of the book. Domino and Whitney's relationship was very fun for me and I appreciated the way it not only began but progressed throughout the story despite all the craziness happening around them. I honestly probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if I didn't find half the other characters incredibly annoying (this is where that disclaimer comes in). I find that this book -despite presenting itself as otherwise- focuses more on the situation as a whole compared to the interpersonal relationships throughout that situation which is great for some readers but doesn't necessarily work for me.
I will be the first to acknowledge that many of my issues are greatly steeped in me projecting my own insecurities and past friend traumas but that's where I'm at and because I really couldn't get past it while reading I need to talk about it. Being the third friend sucks ass and watching Whitney discover that her two besties of 15+ years have been keeping a whole other life from her really struck a bad chord in me. This is something I would have been able to overcome if I felt like the topic surrounding feelings of betrayal and hurt was properly addressed and not disregarded but that didn't happen. "We can finally tell you about all our adventures," Like just shoot me why don't you cause what do you mean your adventures?? I tend to project myself onto the characters of the books I'm reading and all I could feel while reading the trio interact after the reveal was irritation. It was incredibly frustrating to experience feelings of being disregarded by fictional characters and I found there was no real conversation about the issue (which is something I come across A LOT in books that utilize this trope and it irritates me every time). Again, I am fully aware this is wholly a me thing but damn, It would be nice to get some closure for the characters put in these situations.
Jackie got on my damn nerves and she actively embodied every issue I've ever had with "hunter" characters. Out of all the characters I felt like she disregarded Whitney's feelings the most and consistently throughout the book. She doesn't like Domino and makes no effort to get along with him because he's a vampire even though he didn't choose that life for himself, fine that's whatever. She told off Whitney multiple times for apparently being selfish in some way or having to pull herself together, literally telling her off when she came back from essentially being kidnapped because her house got damaged in the process and Whit was dripping water on her floors as if she had any say in the matter. Her behaviour is explained away as hunter hardwiring and having to come to terms with all the changes and being forced to be around the nasty vamps but I just don't gaf and don't see that as any proper excuse for her consistent behaviour.
I honestly could probably say more but I realize this is turning a bit into a rant. Despite my issues with the characters I am enjoying this series a lot and find myself intrigued by what else could come of this world and its characters. I am especially interested in seeing what Likosa has up her sleeve as she is still largely a mystery despite her presence in both stories so I can't wait to see the next instalment!
Jessica Cage does it again! I Accidentally Hooked Up with a Vampire, the second book in the Accidents Happen series, was just as good as the first. This fast-paced, fun, and hilarious paranormal romance follows Whitney, an art broker whose life takes a turn for the worse when she loses her job and can’t track down her biggest client, Rayna. Deciding she deserves at least one good thing, she hooks up with the richest, finest man she’s ever met, only to discover (spoiler alert) that he’s a vampire! Even worse? Her blood is special, making her a prime target for every vampire in the region.
Jessica Cage keeps the energy high with an engaging, action-packed plot, and let’s not forget the spice because this book was very spicy! But what really sets this story apart is the incredible side characters. No one writes side characters like Jessica Cage. Whitney’s best friends, Lena and Jackie, didn’t just steal the show, they stole my heart. They’re as much main characters as Whitney, and when their own secrets come to light, the story takes an exciting turn that makes them an integral part of the adventure.
If you love paranormal romance with humor, heart, and some serious heat, this book and series is a must-read. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I received this book for free as an ARC. All opinions in this review are my own.
Warning: Must. Love. Vampires. ❤️🔥🩸
This fast-paced paranormal romance had me LOCKED IN from the very first page. I wasn’t just a fly on the wall or a passive observer of this story - it felt like I was a part of this world. Like I was listening to my (hilarious) best friend tell me about this ‘crazy thing that just happened’.
Honestly, this book is genuinely SO funny. I’ve covered the pages in highlights of my favorite quotes. I tend to avoid ‘romcom’ style books because the humor doesn’t really land for me. If this rings true for you, then this book may just be the one you are looking for!
This book weaves together an experience far beyond what I imagined: - Flirty, magnetic romance - Powerful & beautiful friendship that evolves throughout the book - Reveals, twists, and turns that surprised me (despite the foreshadowing 😂)
I also really loved the natural and effortless feel of body inclusivity in this book. This was intentional, absolutely, but not tokenizing or used for stereotypical plot progression or to bolster a main character, as I’ve seen in too many books. This representation felt honest, beautiful, and empowering. The author truly did an outstanding job on this.
This story follows Whitney, a beautiful plus size woman who recently lost her job and spends a night having a crazy sexual encounter with a sexy vampire named Domino. She soon learns she and Domino have a deeper connection and the people in her life are not who she thought they were. This is a wild ride from start to finish, and it sent me! It’s unhinged in the best way! This book had me CACKLING throughout! This was crazy, funny, relatable, action packed, and a great story about friendship and love. Idk who was funnier, Rayna or Whitney. I loved Lena and Jackie! Domino and Jackie’s frenemy-ship is too funny! I don’t blame Domino for being desensitized to his brother’s BS especially after what happened with his first love. Chile too good… I will definitely be rereading this with the audiobook!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Jessica Cage delivers another laugh-out-loud, action-packed, and delightfully steamy read that keeps the twists coming and the chemistry sizzling. If you love supernatural romance with a side of sass, humor, and bad decisions that somehow work out (mostly), this book is a must-read! I absolutely LOVED this book!
Whitney just lost her dream job, so naturally, a few cocktails (or more) seem like the perfect way to drown her sorrows. What she didn’t expect? Waking up next to a ridiculously hot vampire named Domino—who comes with a whole lot of drama and a supernatural target on her back. Apparently, her blood pressure isn’t the only thing rising, because now the vamps have taken notice, and Whitney is suddenly very special.
Between dodging fanged fiends, navigating her unexpected (and inconveniently hot) vampire entanglement, and realizing her besties have been keeping major magical secrets, Whitney’s life is officially a chaotic paranormal mess. And honestly? She might just be thriving in the madness.
