L'énigmatique voyant Toby Knight se rend au 221B Baker Street pour demander de l'aide face à un sinistre dilemme.

Holmes, un sceptique convaincu de tout ce qui est mystique, rejette Knight comme un charlatan qui s'en prend aux crédules et exige qu'il parte immédiatement.

Watson, ému par la détresse du voyant, lui demande de rester et d'en dire plus sur la question qui le préoccupe.

Knight s'exécute et avoue que certaines de ses prédictions se sont avérées sinistrement exactes, mais avec des conséquences désastreuses pour ses clients, qui l'ont alors rendu responsable de leurs malheurs.

Malgré ses réticences, Holmes est intrigué par les détails donnés par Knight et accepte d'enquêter sur l'affaire.

Au fur et à mesure que l'affaire se déroule, il devient évident que quelqu'un sabote le gagne-pain de Knight, et que plus d'une personne aimerait voir Knight échouer. Mais qui ?

L'esprit aiguisé de Holmes ne tarde pas à découvrir la tromperie et la fausse piste, ce qui l'amène à se demander si le principal suspect ne serait pas tout simplement la victime elle-même.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are approached by a magician. Holmes does not want anything to do with him but listens and helps. This leads to a happy ending.

I would recommend this series and author to readers of British mystery novels and fans of Sherlock Holmes. 2024

I never realized the number of authors writing Sherlock Holmes novels was so large. I have barely started and I am enjoying every story.

An excellent Holmes story

This starts out with Watson disagreeing with Holmes who does not want to take a case. Watson ultimately convinces Holmes they should take on this case. A fairly short story with several surprises. A fun read.

good read. It's closer the classic Sir Arthur style than some of the fantastic supernatural
Sherlock I have been seeing out there recently. Sherlock seems like a regular though very perceptive chactor in this one.

This book had an interesting twist where Holmes reluctantly accepted a case but only because it involved the welfare of others. It was well written, but not stellar. Still, it was a quick read and worthy of interest of any Holmes fan.

Not Bad

A bit of a turn with fortune tellers. But even Mr. Knight couldn't predict what would happen to him, so Sherlock Holmes to the rescue...

Holmes to the rescue

Just shows what a great detective Holmes is. Puts aside his views and helps someone indistress. Good outcome all round.
