After the amazing Gomorrah and a few years of hiding from under a several million dollar death threat from the Camorra, and the great movie and TV show that came out of that work, Roberto Saviano wrote a second even more powerful analysis of the worldwide cocaine industry. In his typically interesting and yet terrifying style, he demonstrates the entire chain of cocoa plants to processed cocaine to international distribution to local dealers and corner boys and how the various interlocking mafias and cartels behind the traffic clean the money. The most frightening aspect is the influence that the mountains of money have underpinning the financial markets, oil business, and elsewhere - more money than anyone knows what to do with.
Given Drumpf's clear ties to the mafia (Trump Towers were built with mafia cement and unorganised mafia labor, his casinos in Vegas are tied to various mafia-related organisations) and to Putin (himself a chairman or investor on several businesses owned by the Russian mob (documented in Saviano's book), it is a critical read at this particular point in time.

Αυτό το βιβλίο σε παγώνει όχι με τα γεγονότα που παρουσιάζει ή με τις ιστορίες που αφηγείται. Κατι μπορεί να έχεις ακούσει, κάτι όλοι έχουμε δει στην τηλεόραση, έχουμε διαβάσει στο ίντερνετ ή στις εφημερίδες για τα μεξικανικά καρτέλ και την παγκόσμια διακίνηση της κοκαΐνης, τη βία, τις δολοφονίες, τα βασανιστήρια, το χρήμα. Αυτό που σε παγώνει, αυτό που με πάγωσε καθόλη τη διάρκεια της ανάγνωσης, ήταν τα νούμερα. Οι αριθμοί που ποσοτικοποιούν την αθλιότητα, την εκμετάλλευση, τα τεράστια περιθώρια κέρδους. Τα νούμερα δίνουν στη φρίκη μια άλλη διάσταση, την εμπραγματώνουν πλήρως, της δίνουν υπόσταση. Είναι όπως όταν λέμε ότι το σύμπαν είναι άπειρο. Αυτό από μόνο του είναι μια φράση, στην πραγματικότητα δε σημαίνει τίποτα, δεν μπορούμε να συλλάβουμε το μέγεθος που δηλώνει. Αν όμως διαβάσεις λίγο, αν σου εξηγησει κάποιος τι σημαίνει αυτό με νούμερα, με αναφορά σε μεγέθη, αρχίζεις να ζαλίζεσαι και σε κόβει ιδρώτας. Αυτό έπαθα με το ΜηδένΜηδένΜηδέν.
Το ταξίδι της κόκας από τη Λατινική Αμερική στην Αφρική κι από εκεί στην Ευρώπη, αλλά και από τη Λατινική Αμερική στην Ισπανία και από εκεί στην υπόλοιπη Ευρώπη, καθώς και από τη Λατινική Αμερική στην Αμερική, ο πόλεμος των καρτέλ, η ανάπτυξη του δικτύου προώθησης και διακίνησης, τα χοντρά λεφτά της μεσιτείας στον κύκλο της κοκαΐνης, ο ρόλος της ιταλικής μαφίας (και όχι μόνο) στην διάχυση του προϊόντος στην ευρωπαϊκή αγορά που το ζητά όλο και πιο έντονα, όλα αυτά περιγράφονται στο βιβλίο και συνθέτουν μια τρομακτική εικόνα. Ταυτόχρονα το ξέπλυμα του χρήματος της κόκας που γεννά νέο χρήμα, δημιουργώντας μια παράλληλη οικονομία νόμιμης δραστηριότητας που στηρίζει την παγκόσμια οικονομία με τα λεφτά των ναρκοεμπόρων. Και παντού νούμερα, στοιχεία. Σύμφωνα με τον Σαβιάνο, κατά τη διάρκεια της κρίσης του 2008, πολλές αμερικανικές τράπεζες έμειναν όρθιες λόγω της εισροής χρήματος από το εμπόριο ναρκωτικών και το ξέπλυμα του χρηματος αυτού. Η διακίνηση της κοκαΐνης δεν είναι απλά μια παράνομη δραστηριότητα, είναι ένας μοχλός που κινεί την οικονομία. Κι επειδή συλλέγω και αποσπάσματα βιβλίων που μιλούν για την ανάγνωση καθ' εαυτή, να ένα ωραίο από τον Ρομπέρτο Σαβιάνο:
"Τίποτα δεν είναι πιο ισχυρό από την ανάγνωση, κανείς δεν είναι πιο ψεύτης απ' όποιον ισχυρίζεται ότι το να διαβάζεις ένα βιβλίο είναι μια παθητική πράξη. Brutal and compelling investigation of the international cocaine market
The scope and volume of the infomation in this book is staggering. Saviano has compiled what must have been years of research into every aspect of the massive trade in cocaine, from the fields where it is grown to the smallest retail transactions on the street. He uses a great deal of statistics and research to good effect, but I would have liked to have seen more reference to the origin of his sources. In any case, his arguments about the modernisation and globalisation of cocaine production and distribution is well constructed and astonishing, it is almost impossible to imagine the amount of money involved. Likewise, the sickening violence that goes hand in hand with the trade. The descriptions in the book are detailed and savage, the dark imagination of those that use terror have no depths. Coming from a small English town, it is disorientating to imagine growing up in a world where torture and elaborate displays of death are facts of life. The fear that must imbue such communities would be impossible to escape, I cannot imagine the strength and courage it would take to stand against these people, especially as it could easily mean death to you and all those around you. It makes me wonder how Saviano lives and how much effect writing this book, and his other Gomorrah, has had on his life.
It kept hitting me again and again while reading that this is now. Though Saviano refers to the growth of the trade and its many permeations, this work is uptodate and extremely relevant. The people he talks about are in prison today or out in the streets, some are dead or will be soon, the new generation is pushing their way up the ranks, and the agencies of law enforcement seem to be losing or, in some cases, actively assisting. The extent of the problem is portrayed particularly well by Saviano, he uses the book to expose the breadth of the cocaine market by individual stories, built to provide a convincing case for global influence. Sometimes this tactic seems to overwhelm him a little, he frequently moves back and forward in time or place in ways which confuse rather than add to his narrative. Yet overall, the picture he presents is clear; the cocaine trade is one that needs immediate and decisive attention and action. I wasn't entirely convinced by his assertion that legalisation is the route to a breakthrough but I don't have any better suggestions. After reading this, I'm not even sure that significant and conclusive improvement is possible.

Librazo! Librazooo!!!! Saviano está obsesionado, y su obsesión infecta. Va a un ritmo loco, y le hace a uno entender cosas del mundo que no sabía ni había pensado, y es que la cocaína, que viene en su mayoría de mi país, tiene una agencia tremenda para transformar y acelerar el mundo hacia su destrucción tecnocapitalista, infectando a todo el mundo, en todo lado, y transformándolo todo. Brutal y muy recomendado!

Roberto Saviano nos entrega de nuevo un claro ejemplar de un ONNI (objeto narrativo no identificado). Es curioso que los periodistas lo consideren un escritor mientras que los escritores lo consideran un periodista. Frente a nosotros tenemos un tomo que a momentos es claramente periodismo de investigación para luego dar un giro súbito a las pesadillas del autor que actualmente vive escoltado tras las amenazas de la mafia pasando antes por una extraña oda a la cocaína y sus usuarios.
La pregunta obvia es si todo éste esquema funciona; la respuesta en general es: sí. Saviano no solo nos presenta un reporte de periodismo de investigación sobre la formación y crecimiento de los cárteles que trafican con la cocaína o sus nexos con otros bastiones del crimen organizado capaces de fijar los precios internacionales del gas. Encima, obtenemos una visión muy clara de porque la cocaína tiene el peso que tiene en los mercados negros, la dependencia de la sociedad a ella y porque ni México, Colombia o Italia podrían por si solos resolver el problema.
Al contrario de los relatos usuales en medios periodísticos que pintan la impresión de un caos desencadenado en una tierra de "sálvese quien pueda" vemos que hay una lógica detrás del accionar de estos grupos. Esto no justifica ni remotamente ninguna de sus acciones pero es claro de dónde brotan y como si no fueran estos grupos entonces alguien más estaría haciendo lo mismo ante tales estímulos y condiciones.
No he leído el libro anterior del autor, así que no lo puedo comparar; de entrada es un tipo de narrativa muy única y desconozco que tanto pueda repetirse este estilo en otras obras sin cansar al lector, pero de entrada es una observación irrelevante si es el primero libro de Saviano que se lee.
Finalmente, la millonesíma queja a las traducciones de Anagrama. En serio, estimados editores de Anagrama: los delincuentes en América Latina no hablan como en un café de Madrid; es rídiculo.

Once again, like with Gomorrah, a really good TV series was extrapolated from a shoddy nonfiction piece of journalism. I really liked ZeroZeroZero, the recent TV series, so I thought I’d give the book a read. Just like with Gomorrah, the book is mediocre, and that’s in the good parts.
OMG is this guy a shitty journalist. I really hate his opinionated musings on cocaine usage and how great it makes you feel. I completely disagree. I’ve tried cocaine quite a few times and it does nothing much for me. I never understood its popularity. Obviously, cocaine is popular, but he makes it out as if everyone but you is snorting their brains out every day.

OMG is this guy a shitty journalist. I really hate his opinionated musings on cocaine usage and how great it makes you feel. I completely disagree. I’ve tried cocaine quite a few times and it does nothing much for me. I never understood its popularity. Obviously, cocaine is popular, but he makes it out as if everyone but you is snorting their brains out every day.

В света на наркокапитализма и кокаина възвръщаемостта на първоначалната инвестиция е стократно по-висока и астрономически по-бърза от тази в акции дори на най-печелившата корпорация.
Наркокапитализмът създава цели наркодържави в сянка. Мексико - управлявано на практика от едри наркокланове игрупировки, чиито въоръжени крила си служат с технологии, за които куп спецчасти могат само да мечтаят. И разбиването на някоя пратка изисква истински слецчасти с въздушно подкрепление. Нарколканове, които имат политически програми за населението, работещи и гъвкави бизнесмодели от производителя до крайния клиент, и социални ангажименти. Както и - разбира се - камари от трупове на косвени жертви, когато се сблъскат със съпротива или просто два кланя се сджафкат. Наркокартели, които имат на подчинение президенти, министри, сенатори, генерали и адмирали, полицейски шефове. Несъгласните свършват на гробищата. Малцината борци за справедливост - също. А отглеждането на маковете е много по-доходоносно от стандартните земеделски култури. Наркокапитализмът управлява Мексико, а някои щати като Синалоа са на практика отделни наркодържави.
Наркокапитализмът може да е и като в Колумбия, където различните паравоенни и партизански групировки от сорта на АУК и ФАРК се прехранват с производство на кокаин, а кланове като “Меделин” са легендарни със зверствата си. Напоследък колумбийците губят по точки от мексиканците, които са по-иновативни. Но пък колумбийците си имат флот от подводници, които разнасят по 60 тонa кокаин - а в амазонската джунгла са изградили производствени мощности за строежа на подводници.
За които вероятно са помогнали руските групировки от началото на 90-те. Имат достъп до някоя и друга съветска подводница.
Калабрийците и Ндрангетата на този фон са почти цивилизовани. Както възмутено обяснява един от тях, те не са варвари като колумбийците - няма чак толкова изтезания, предимно е куршум.
Или салвадорските банди, завладели САЩ. Луди и надрусани, ден да мине друг да дойде…
В цялата тази адска каша всеки светъл проблясък се застрелва (в добрия случай) и изтезава (ако жертвата си е дала много труд да изобличава корупция и убийства в медиите или да сътрудничи с полиция или разузнаване). Принадлежност към стадо, управление на стадо и много пари - неустоима комбинация за куп хора да създават ад за околните и със задоволство да ги тикат вътре. От друга страна, потребителите на кокаин не са от ниските класи - и го правят доброволно и за кеф! Като не им пука, че дори най-голямата “чистота” на този отпадък прави мозъците им на гъба. От технологията за производството на кокаин (само за пример: керосин, сода каустик) на всеки със слаб стомах може да му призлее. Но пък онези с костюмите и многото пари нямат слаб стомах.
В крайна сметка - има ли полза от изобличението, обречена ли е битката срещу толкова мощен противник - наркоси, наркокорумпирани и наркозависими? Не е, защото винаги ще има хора, които ще изкореняват маковете и ще разпиляват белия прах над морето. А да се информираш значи да си се подготвил и да си готов за битка. Само дето тези битки струват живота на журналисти, агенти и обикновени хора. Или душата и разсъдъка им.
Савиано стига дотам да зададе въпроса дали наркотиците не трябва да се легализират - така поне този престъпен монопол ще се транформира. Но тогава трябва вероятно да разрешим и убийствата? Щекотлива тема, като се има предвид историята на алкохола. Но с едно малко уиски не ставаш зависим като с някоя дозичка…
Най-силната част е наркокартата на Мексико, както и на самото производство и дистрибуция на наркотика. Някои секции са доста общи, сякаш поетични, което не ми допадна особено. В тях разказът е накъсан и объкващ, губи се връзката кой кой е и какви са събитията и основните насоки. Може би най-слабата част е за руската мафия - макар да съдържа някои интересни факти, тя е доста разпокъсана и несвързана. А някои кратки фрагменти като този за Африка са ненужни в този си вид.
Светът би бил във властта единствено на неспирно агресивни хищници - без гласове като тези на Савиано.

It’s a good thing that Saviano is not a drug pusher because if he was, more people would be addicted.
Saviano’s Zero ZeroZero is a book about cocaine and the Cartels that control the ebb and flow as well as subtle effects on the society at large. Saviano looks at the global cocaine trade, so the focus is on the global aspects instead of the local dealer. While the Cartels get most of the focus, there is a powerful chapter about drug mules. The police who try to stop the drug trade are also given attention, including a chapter about dogs (and that chapter is not entirely pleasant reading for dog lovers). While there are connections between the Cartels and the mob in Italian, this is even more global in scope than Gomorrah.
Saviano divides his book into sections, and each sections begins with what amounts in most of the cases to a prose poem that details an aspect of the cocaine trade (the most factual one details different ways of smuggling cocaine. These prologues to each section not only the allure the drug has, but also touch on the nature of addiction, something that we can never fully understand. If any writer gets the reader close to that impossible understanding, it is Saviano in these sections.
This book is more relevant for the average citizen, in particular the average citizen of the United States as well as México and Columbia, because of the look at how the War on Drugs fails at an international level as well as a governmental level. While there is not a close look at the effects of the average citizen in say México as there was in books such as Murder City, Saviano does much to highlight the violence that usually gets simple lip service. Part of the reason why this book is not a quick read is that Saviano’s writing is like dark chocolate, you need to think about what you just read after 20-40 pages. Another reason is that he doesn’t pull punches when describing what the cartels do to some people.
And the American news really doesn’t report that all that well.
Sometimes, however, you shouldn’t pull punches. Sometimes, in particular when trying to make people aware, you can’t be nice and sensitive.
And then there is the whole chapter about Africa. Is it the beginning of some other type of cartel? Is it an extension of fallout of colonialism? A combination of the two?
It’s strange, though. When describing the violence, Saviano is impersonal, but it is quite clear in parts that the book is in some manner personal. At times, Saviano slips in personal details about his life since the publication of Gomorrah (he is under protection) and one wonders, in particular, in a chapter about a journalist who is killed by the cartel, if Saviano sees something of himself in the reporters there, if the subject is personal because of the risk. And this comes out in section that talks about the danger of reading – and it is a danger because you can never unread or unknown (unless you get hurt or sick). It is a danger, but also a power. Saviano mediates on this. Does a writer’s desire to give that power to a reader though the connivance of knowledge always work and is it worth the risks (and in some cases the death) that the reporter faces? Do readers abdicate that power when they put the book down and do nothing with their newfound knowledge? Does the media let people done by appealing the lowest of the lowest denominators? Perhaps because I’ve recently been to the Newseum and seen its Wall of the Fallen that I thought about these issues during the second half of this book.
Saviano must be one of the few writers alive (if not the only one)who can take a topic such as drugs and constantly morph it though the book, drawing connections to everything. Read this, and you will never look at cocaine or illegal drugs the same way again.
(A quick note – I read ARC so the final version might have what I actually really wanted when I reached the half way point. I wanted a person list to help keep the various members of the cartels straight. Sometimes a great many names come very, very quickly. A list would have helped.)

Personalmente, non so se essere deluso oppure no da questo libro di Saviano; forse le aspettative erano ben altre. Secondo me c'è davvero proprio poca scrittura lungo le oltre 400 pagine di questo libro; per ben 3/4 del libro ho avuto la senzazione di leggere una serie di articoli sull'espresso più che un libro (quindi un registro totalmente differente). Le storie sono si legate dal filo conduttore del narcotraffico, ma i salti da una vicenda all'altra, alle volte, sono troppo repentini e ci si perde facilmente in rivoli di nomi e di luoghi. In definitiva le uniche pagine degne di essere lette sono alcuni interludi in cui l'Autore pone interrogativi sul mondo, su se stesso su tutti noi...davvero un pò poco.
Se ho caldamente consigliato ai miei non italitici amici e colleghi di leggere Gomorra, questo non lo consiglierò più di tanto qualora venisse tradotto in altre lingue.

7 anni dopo Gomorra, Saviano torna con un libro che racconta uno spaccato inquietante dell'immenso business del narcotraffico. Un macigno di 400 e passa pagine che ti cade addosso, ti travolge con le sue storie, e ti sembra davvero impossibile trovarvi una via d'uscita. Giunta alla fine, ora anch'io non riesco più a guardare il mondo con gli occhi che avevo prima.

Il mio approccio con Roberto Saviano comincia con questo viaggio nel mondo del narcotraffico. Da Medellìn al Sud America, al Centro America, Saviano ci porta a contatto con i narcotrafficanti, con il commercio di cocaina e quanto questa sostanza si consuma ogni giorno, non solo in Italia, ma anche nel mondo.
Saviano ci fa conoscere la realtà della cocaina, i consumatori, comprese le guerre, le rivalità tra le gang. Saviano ci mette davanti la realtà dei fatti mostrando l'aspetto più crudo e duro di ogni storia, ogni vita che si nasconde dietro. Le storie raccontate da Saviano sono crude, atroci e rivelano aspetti di un mondo che ignoravo completamente. Saviano ci invita a no voltarci dall'altra parte, a guardare inf accia la realtà, a pretendere, esigere la verità, proprio come ha fatto lui e come continua a fare, rischiando la vita per le sue idee, il suo credo, a discapito di tutto e di tutti.

"Il mondo ti fa schifo? Cambialo!"
"Conoscere è iniziare a cambiare!"
"Solo chi conosce queste storie può difendersi da queste storie."
Da sempre la generalizzazione fornisce copertura a chi evita le responsabilità.
La frase "sono tutti uguali" favorisce il furbo a discapito dell'onesto e solo una conoscenza almeno di base consentirebbe di fare le opportune distinzioni.
Un'analisi anche non troppo approfondita permette sempre e comunque di evidenziare differenze tra le varie parti, siano esse politiche, sociali o altro.
Ancora: la conoscenza rende consapevoli le persone dei rischi e delle opportunità che una determinata situazione può offrire.
E' affare di questi giorni, ad esempio, l'elezione del Presidente della Repubblica e il dire che i politici sono tutti uguali è la cosa più sbagliata del mondo.
Basterebbe un'analisi anche superficiale delle varie situazioni per rendersi conto che le posizioni in campo erano almeno sei o sette e che la decisione finale che di solito avviene attraverso compromessi che soddisfano solo una parte, è stata anche questa volta la regola utilizzata.
Ma non tutti sono stati d'accordo con la decisione presa e mettere tutti sullo stesso livello non ha senso ed è controproducente se le cose non ci stanno bene.
Infatti generalizzare ha un solo effetto: quello di rendere difficile l'assegnazione delle responsabilità a chi le ha effettivamente.
Roberto Saviano nella parte finale di questo Zero zero zero dice esattamente la stessa cosa.
E' necessario prendere coscienza di quella che è la realtà, anche e soprattutto quando è scomoda, quando in qualche modo ci coinvolge direttamente oppure ci sfiora.
Se il mondo ci fa schifo il primo passo è conoscere bene le cose che lo rendono così schifoso, capirle e parlarne.
Parlarne in casa, con gli amici, al bar, parlarne con tutti, il più possibile.
Forse non saremo in grado di cambiare le cose oggi, ma l'abitudine e la dimestichezza con certi argomenti, certamente li rende meno paurosi, meno misteriosi e dunque più gestibili.
Basti pensare a pochi decenni fa quando anche solamente mostrare le diversità era considerato un tabù.
Quante persone hanno passato la propria vita chiusi in casa per la paura di mostrarsi e per i timore di alimentare le chiacchiere della gente. Per quale motivo poi?
Oggi per fortuna in molti ambienti le cose sono cambiate e il maggior merito è da attribuire a coloro i quali se ne sono fregati di quelle chiacchiere e hanno cercato di vivere una vita normale nonostante le difficoltà vere e ignorando quelle costruite dalla mentalità della gente.
L'abitudine alle situazioni fa cambiare la mentalità delle persone.
Il soggetto di questo libro è la cocaina e nella sua introduzione Saviano dice chiaramente che ognuno di noi nel suo piccolo ha qualche contatto con questo mondo; chi si vuole chiamare fuori, chi si sente puro, chi crede di non avere nulla a che vedere con questo mondo semplicemente perché non ne fa uso, ebbene è in torto perché i numeri e le ricerche dimostrano che la cosa è molto più diffusa di quanto si sia disposti a credere.
Una via di mezzo tra inchiesta e documentario, Zero zero zero è un libro che a me ha molto ricordato Gomorra per come è costruito e strutturato.
Certamente sono passati anni e molto cose sono cambiate da quando uscì quel primo lavoro di Saviano, lo si vede dalle numerose parentesi all'interno delle quali l'autore mette del suo parlando della propria condizione di vita.
Tuttavia il racconto lascia ancora sgomenti per le cose che dice, per i nomi che indica e per la forza del testo che non lascia scampo al lettore.
Quella famosa macchina del fango tanto richiamata in alcune trasmissioni televisive è proprio ciò che può minare il concreto di questo libro.
Caro lettore che anche in base a queste poche righe deciderai se Zero zero zero di Roberto Saviano valga la pena di essere preso in considerazione per le tue prossime letture, sappi una cosa: puoi considerare l'autore una vittima o un profittatore, un talento o un opportunista, un eroe o un infame, ma non puoi pensare che la cocaina non sia affar tuo.
Come si accennava più sopra riguardo all'introduzione del primo capitolo, la cosa è molto chiara: la cocaina è già affare tuo.
Qualunque siano le tua attività, le tue passioni, il tuo stile di vita; qualunque posto tu abiti o frequenti, c'è qualcuno che ha a che fare con te, o con le cose che tu maneggi, che fa uso di cocaina.
Da qui non si scappa: lo dicono le analisi delle acque di scarico delle città, lo dicono i sequestri della polizia, lo dicono le indagini, lo indica tutta una serie di prove provate.
Dunque sarebbe necessario conoscere.
Dal punto di vista umano, forte risalta in alcuni momenti la malinconia di un uomo:
“Non mi sono mai mosso da Napoli. Non solo con il pensiero, ma sopportando l’odio che mi viene versato di continuo, anche accogliendo le braccia che mi stringono per darmi coraggio. Sono sempre lì....Sino a che qualcuno o qualcosa mi uccide."
La macchina del fango è il primo metodo per isolare qualcuno e poi compiere azioni ulteriori.
La semplice conoscenza delle cose è il primo passo per combatterle.
Per questo Saviano va letto anche se non ci è simpatico, perché lavora per tutti noi.

Уникален труд на Савиано, който ще промени тотално възгледите за това, което се случва в света. Написано е майсторски, увлекателно, с множество шокиращи истории, при това съвсем реални, документирани, тревожещо истински. Но нека да посоча някои от основните ми впечатления:
Кокаинът - най-търсената и конвертируема стока на света. Бизнес за милиарди.
Кока, хероин или метамфетамини се консумират от известната актриса, която иска да не се провали и да изиграе ролята на живота си. Или от политикът, застанал пред хиляди насочени към него погледи, очакващи лидерска реч. Или от рок-звездата, рапърът, поп-иконата, идолът на милиони - те всички трябва да са ексцентрични, различни, да са център на внимание. Ползват се от порноактьорите, културисти, проститутки, ТВ-водещи, от простолюдието, от пропаднали младежи, комплексари, аутсайдери. От войници, джихадисти, демонстранти, мафиоти, леки жени, купонджии, обикновени работници, финансисти, програмисти. От хора, болни от неизлечими болести, от хора, които не издържат на болка, прегъват се от стреса и напрежението.
И ето го кокаинът - кралят на дрогите - микроскопична капка от вещество, невротрансмитер, която възбужда клетката, предава нататък възбудата, която кара кръвта да "кипи". По-лесно е да говориш, по-лесно е да флиртуваш, по-лесно е да усетиш, че те оценяват. Усещанията, чувствата и реакциите са изострени до краен предел. Кокаинът е бензин за тялото, екстра допамин и норадреналин, животът се умножава на куб... преди да се сгромоляса всичко.
Преди да те разсипе, да те изяде. Всичко, което дава, после взима като подъл лихвар: сърцето ти гръмва, членът ти омеква, мозъкът ти изпушва. Ставаш пихтия. Но за много индивиди важното е сега, а не утре...

В бизнеса важи правилото на ластика - когато почнем да опъваме един ластик, в началото няма съпротивление, докато не достигнеш максимално удължение. След което ластикът се къса. В началото има ресурси, има място на пазара за нов продукт. После идва конкуренция, пренасяне на заводи на изток, плащане на по-евтина работна ръка, избягване на данъци. Опитваш се да разширяваш ластика, като избегнеш той да се скъса. Всички стоки следват правилото на ластика. Освен една- коката.

По-странното е, че голяма част от тези нарко-армии се изграждат от бивши военни, полицаи, или са групи, с доста тесни връзки с органите на реда.
По ирония на съдбата Лос Сетас е създадена от остатъци на елитната мексиканска армия GAFE, който е създаден именно да елиминира престъпници и наркопласьори. Лейтенант Артуро Гусман Десена създава тази групировка от бивши военни и дезертьори, която се превръща в един от най-големите наркогрупировки. Историите, които ни разказва Савиано, са меко казано шокиращи. От включването на безпощадните гватемалските бойци каибили до жестокостите, с които работят мексиканските картели - рязане на части от тялото, чупене на ребра и кости, разтваряне в киселини. Ужасяващо. Битките между отделните картели също са съпътствани с много кръвопролития и жестокости. Там важат правилата на джунглата. Жертвите за последните 5-6 години надминават 100 000!
Авторът ни прехвърля и набързо към Колумбия - историите на картелите в тази страна също е разтърсваща. Авторът не подминава и най-прогресиращата мафия в Италия - калабрийската мафия, или т.нар. Ндрагента.
Идва ред на руската мафия, с легендарния мултимилионер Могилевич и гениалните му похвати за пране на пари.
Единственото ми разочарование е, че не отделил време за друга наркотеритория - Афганистан. Както и битките около Афганистан за територии и пътища.
"Нула Нула Нула" е названието на най-качествената кока. Савиано е събрал и подредил факти като истински разследващ журналист, но най-важното му качество е, че умее да разказва. Книг��та наистина е много брутална, но по-ужасяващото е, че е описва действителността, такава, каквато е. Мислите, че живеете в лицемерен свят?
Уникален труд на Савиано, който ще промени тотално възгледите за това, което се случва в света. Написано е майсторски, увлекателно, с множество шокиращи истории, при това съвсем реални, документирани, тревожещо истински. Но нека да посоча някои от основните ми впечатления:
Кокаинът - най-търсената и конвертируема стока на света. Бизнес за милиарди.
Кока, хероин или метамфетамини се консумират от известната актриса, която иска да не се провали и да изиграе ролята на живота си. Или от политикът, застанал пред хиляди насочени към него погледи, очакващи лидерска реч. Или от рок-звездата, рапърът, поп-иконата, идолът на милиони - те всички трябва да са ексцентрични, различни, да са център на внимание. Ползват се от порноактьорите, културисти, проститутки, ТВ-водещи, от простолюдието, от пропаднали младежи, комплексари, аутсайдери. От войници, джихадисти, демонстранти, мафиоти, леки жени, купонджии, обикновени работници, финансисти, програмисти. От хора, болни от неизлечими болести, от хора, които не издържат на болка, прегъват се от стреса и напрежението.
И ето го кокаинът - кралят на дрогите - микроскопична капка от вещество, невротрансмитер, която възбужда клетката, предава нататък възбудата, която кара кръвта да "кипи". По-лесно е да говориш, по-лесно е да флиртуваш, по-лесно е да усетиш, че те оценяват. Усещанията, чувствата и реакциите са изострени до краен предел. Кокаинът е бензин за тялото, екстра допамин и норадреналин, животът се умножава на куб... преди да се сгромоляса всичко.
Преди да те разсипе, да те изяде. Всичко, което дава, после взима като подъл лихвар: сърцето ти гръмва, членът ти омеква, мозъкът ти изпушва. Ставаш пихтия. Но за много индивиди важното е сега, а не утре...

Roberto Saviano dedicates his book to his police bodyguards, for he’s a writer in that small and exclusive club: one with a target on his back. While Salman Rushdie, another famous alumni of the club, dared to say something critical about, Saviano took on Camorrah in his previous bestseller Gamorrah. His previous book was a passionately angry screed, in part based on his own personal experiences, against the Neapolitan mafia that were poisoning his home town of Naples. His anger dripped from the pages of that tome and so it was with similar expectations that I approached his latest offering, an examination of the international cocaine trade.
Zero Zero Zero is in some ways the better book. It’s more sober, reflecting the author’s own distance from the subject. Before reading the book I saw an interview Saviano did with the BBC’s Hardtalk programme, where he explained that while he couldn’t walk the streets like he used to, his contacts with the police were now ironically better. He said that he was able to interview leading narcotics officers throughout the world and the book certainly reflects both that approach and that level of access. Saviano surveys the cocaine trade from Colombia, through the Mexican cartels and the vicious narco-wars that have wracked that nation, through transit through Africa and into the hands of ‘Ndranghetta, not the most powerful of Italy’s mafias. It’s an impressive achievement and once again he doesn’t shy away from naming names.
The problem is that while Zero Zero Zero is undoubtedly a good book, a great book even, Saviano is increasingly playing in a crowded field. Other writers and journalists have similar levels of access and have written similar works. Don Winslow’s seminal novels The Power of The Dog and The Cartel, describe the tragedy that is modern Mexico in heartbreakingly poetic prose, while a new documentary film Cartel Land is bringing the story to the silver screen. John Dickie has published a number of books on Italy’s mafias, including the ‘Ndranghetta, while the cocaine trade more widely has been covered as far back as Gary Webb in his work the Dark Alliance.
Gamorrah was fresh exactly because Saviano had lived it, walked the streets of Naples, seen where the bodies were gunned down, smelt the fetid air of a countryside polluted by industrial waste ferried down from the north of Italy by a criminal sub-culture so debased that they were happy to poison their own hinterland fro a fast buck. Zero Zero Zero simply can’t compete.
In short Zero Zero Zero is a great book, it’s just that Gamorah was better.

Aunque sirve como contrapunto a dos ficcionalizaciones sobre el tema que acabo de leer/ver (El Cartel y Narcos) no puedo dejar de sentir sentimientos encontrados con este libro. Saviano te envía una tonelada de datos y nombres, en muchos casos confusos y sin una narrativa clara que los una. Desfilan los cárteles de Medellín y Cali, los mexicanos, la N'Dranghetta, la mafia rusa y hasta mafias africanas con sus protagonistas principales, pero todo es caótico e indefinido, quizá porque el negocio también lo sea. Lo que pasa es que eso en un libro ensayístico no termina de cuadrar.
Pero lo que peor me ha encajado es el estilo. Durante la mayor parte del libro es puramente periodístico, hasta que, de cuando en cuando, Saviano deja la cámara de documentalista objetivo y se lanza a la primera persona que tan bien funcionó en Gomorra, pero resulta impostado quizá porque el tema no forma una parte integral de él, de su vida y su infancia como si lo hacía la camorra. Hay destellos de brillantez, pero son pocos y separados. Nada que ver con su anterior libro.
En resumen, una ligera decepción.
Pero lo que peor me ha encajado es el estilo. I wasn't that overly struck on Gomorrah, much preferring the film to the book.
This though, was a different beast altogether. A more interesting, broader in scope, and chilling look at the global power house that is the cocaine trade. Read mostly because of recent viewings of both Narcos Mexico and Sicario, so I was getting a real taste for cartels, money laundering, mules, etc... It didn't disappoint. For me, this is Saviano's best work so far. Some of the statistics presented here were just mind blowing. But more so, damn right terrifying. While I don't really class him as a particularly great writer, he is an important one. He opened my eyes as wide as they can go to a hidden world that is a LOT bigger than I realised.

ZeroZeroZero, come altri hanno già scritto prima di me, è un libro che oggettivamente andrebbe letto. Al di là del fatto che piaccia Saviano, che lo si consideri un bravo scrittore o che si nutra una sincera stima per lui.
E' un libro ricco di informazioni interessanti, storiche e sociali, sul narcotraffico e il suo legame con governi, forze dell'ordine e criminalità organizzata. Credo che il messaggio principale però, vada oltre le singole informazioni che ci vengono date: il narcotraffico influenza in maniera devastante l'economia mondiale. E non si parla di numeri vuoti e privi di significato, lontani dalla nostra vita quotidiana. Si parla di banche, le nostre banche, quelle a cui abbiamo chiesto il mutuo che ci permette di avere un tetto sopra la testa, spesso mantenute e tenute in vita dai soldi del narcotraffico. Contanti fruscianti che non vedono mai crisi. Soldi che, come cita l'autore, non si contano ma si pesano.
Il tono è decisamente più giornalistico che narrativo, ma lo stesso Saviano si è un po' trasformato negli anni affrontando argomenti scottanti, prima (molto prima) esclusivo appannaggio di un giornalismo d'inchiesta che sembra ormai lontano.
Lo ritengo un libro importante, che non lascia indifferenti e utile per capire certi meccanismi che ci sembrano tanto lontani, ma che in realtà tocchiamo ogni giorno con mano.
E' un libro ricco di informazioni interessanti, storiche e sociali, sul narcotraffico e il suo legame con governi, forze dell'ordine e criminalità organizzata. A history of the cocaine trade with some good anecdotes. Not as much analysis as I was hoping for, though. He makes a half-hearted argument for legalization at the end of the book, but he figures even that won't end the violence. Really want to read Gomorrah, his first book about the Camorra in Naples that he risked his life to write. He now lives with a 24/7 police bodyguard detail.
Most interesting stories were about:
1. Bruno Fuduli - pressured into giving up an honest life to to become a high stakes cocaine broker the Camorra, he became a police informant of his own free will, but left to get into the cocaine trade for himself when he found witness protection disagreeable.

Τα τελευταία δύο χρόνια παρακολουθώντας έντονα σειρές και ντοκιμαντέρ που έχουν σχέση με ναρκωτικά και τους ναρκοβαρόνους ήταν φυσικό επακόλουθο κάποια στιγμή να πέσει στην αντίληψη μου το βιβλίο αυτό. Ήταν η πρώτη φορά που διάβασα Ρομπέρο Σαμπιάνο. Τον συγγραφέα τον γνώριζα από το πολύ γνωστό "Γόμμορα", χωρίς να το έχω διαβάσει. Είχα δει πολύ παλιά την ταινία και θυμόμουν ότι είχε γίνει μεγάλος ντόρος.
Σε αυτό το βιβλίο ο συγγραφέας-δημοσιογράφος καταπιάνεται με το θέμα των ναρκωτικών και συγκεκριμένα με την κοκαΐνη, τα καρτέλ, τους μεγάλους βαρόνους, τα τεράστια ποσά που βγάζουν, την τρομοκρατία τους, τον αριθμό των θυμάτων τους, τα βασανιστήρια που τους κάνουν, τις συμπεριφορές των κρατών απέναντι στα καρτέλ (της χώρας που ανήκουν και της Αμερικής), το ξέπλημα χρημάτων και τις τράπεζες που τους βοηθούν. Δίνει πολλές πληροφορίες, ονόματα, αριθμούς και αυτό σε κάποια σημεία γίνεται κουραστικό γιατί φτάνεις σε σημείο να μπερδεύεσαι αλλά σε γενικές γραμμές έχει πολύ ενδιαφέρον. Ο ίδιος στο οπισθώφυλλο γράφει "Το να γράφεις για την κοκαΐνη είναι σαν να κάνεις χρήση. Θέλεις όλο και πιο πολλές ειδήσεις, πιο πολλές πληροφορίες, και καθώς όσες βρίσκεις είναι ζουµερές, δεν µπορείς πια να κάνεις χωρίς αυτές. Είσαι addicted." και ισχύει. Σε κάθε σελίδα του βιβλίου φαίνεται πόσο έχει εθιστεί με το θέμα!
Σε αυτό το βιβλίο ο συγγραφέας-δημοσιογράφος καταπιάνεται με το θέμα των ναρκωτικών και συγκεκριμένα με την κοκαΐνη, τα καρτέλ, τους μεγάλους βαρόνους, τα τεράστια ποσά που βγάζουν, την τρομοκρατία τους, τον αριθμό των θυμάτων τους, τα βασανιστήρια που τους κάνουν, τις συμπεριφορές των κρατών απέναντι στα καρτέλ (της χώρας που ανήκουν και της Αμερικής), το ξέπλημα χρημάτων και τις τράπεζες που τους βοηθούν. Δίνει πολλές πληροφορίες, ονόματα, αριθμούς και αυτό σε κάποια σημεία γίνεται κουραστικό γιατί φτάνεις σε σημείο να μπερδεύεσαι αλλά σε γενικές γραμμές έχει πολύ ενδιαφέρον. Ο ίδιος στο οπισθώφυλλο γράφει "Το να γράφεις για την κοκαΐνη είναι σαν να κάνεις χρήση. Θέλεις όλο και πιο πολλές ειδήσεις, πιο πολλές πληροφορίες, και καθώς όσες βρίσκεις είναι ζουµερές, δεν µπορείς πια να κάνεις χωρίς αυτές. Είσαι addicted." και ισχύει. Σε κάθε σελίδα του βιβλίου φαίνεται πόσο έχει εθιστεί με το θέμα!

Non e' un incredibile racconto. E' un libro sull'incredibile realta'.
E lo dico da ''non appassionata' di Saviano e men che meno del genere.
Quello che resta dopo la lettura di questo libro e' un arricchimento non solo sui meccanismi e sulle storie del sistema globale della cocaina, ma anche sull'intero sistema mondo. Partendo dal Messico agli Stati Uniti, dalla Colombia passando per l'Africa occidentale, la Calabria e l'Ucrania per arrivare alla Russia, l'oro bianco viene raccontato nella suo potere sociale di sedurre. Attraverso le tante storie narrate, si riconsiderano i limiti della spietatezza umana. Nessuna differenza se sei un banchiere di Londra o un emarginato colombiano, se il tuo obiettivo e' fare soldi (tanti e subito) la tua risposta e' la sola merce che non conoscera' mai una crisi. Ci si rende conto che molte relazioni globali sono solo la punta dell'iceberg di traffici e interessi che restano in un abisso oscuro (perche pochi ne parlano) ma che e' capace di infiltrarsi nei grandi poteri cosi come nei gruppi di giovani alla ricerca di senzazioni nuove . Alla fine non credo che questo libro sia un'interpretazione del mondo ma una lucida analisi dello stesso nei suoi lati e angoli piu nascosti.

L'argomento è sicuramente interessante e meriterebbe maggiore attenzione, anche se mi permetto di fare alcune critiche.
Un primo aspetto che mi lascia insoddisfatto sono alcune scelte stilistiche. Ho trovato alcune parti, ad esempio il primo capitolo, estremamente noiose in quanto formate da interminabili elenchi che risultano rapidamente noiosi e freddi, pur essendo chiaro l'intento di trasmettere proprio la diffusione del fenomeno o le sue sfaccettature attraverso la loro lunghezza.
In secondo luogo, capisco che la trattazione di argomenti così violenti, crudi e feroci non possa richiedere toni particolarmente lirici o ispirati, ma la forma in generale potrebbe essere, a mio parere, un po' più elegante e curata. Ma forse anche questa è solo una semplice scelta stilistica dell'autore.
Infine, penso che l'autore sia talmente ossessionato dall'argomento (cosa che lui stesso ammette) da vederlo letteralmente ovunque e probabilmente sovrastimandolo. Certamente il fenomeno è sottodimensionato nell'opinione pubblica e nell'attenzione che la politica gli riserva, ma credo che Saviano cada dalla parte opposta della balconata. La cocaina diventa quasi idealizzata e sembra diventare l'unico grande male del nostro tempo.

Seguo sempre Roberto Saviano, sia in TV che su Repubblica, perché lo reputo uno dei giornalisti più preparati in circolazione… però, se "Gomorra" mi era piaciuto tantissimo, non posso dire la stessa cosa di questo. Ho trovato "Zero Zero Zero" troppo "soporifero", pieno zeppo di troppi nomi e di troppi fatti da ricordare. Alla fine non ce l'ho fatta più… e mi sono arreso quando, sul Kindle, ero al 76% di pagine lette.

La prima parte del libro è interessante e comprensibile perché ai temi viene dedicato lo spazio necessario e il lettore ha il tempo di capire e immaginare. Violenza inaudita e racconti raccapriccianti. Personaggi coinvolgenti e fatti interessanti sulle conseguenze che la cocaina sulle persone. Tanto tantissimo che non mi sarei mai immaginata.
Purtroppo la seconda parte del libro invece è stata quasi una tortura. Troppe storie buttate lì all'improvviso, sviluppate in pochissime pagine e una marea di nomi e soprannomi di narcotrafficanti mai sentiti. Ho fatto fatica a resistere e ad arrivare alla fine. Sono sollevata di aver finito.
Tre stelle comunque perché tutta la prima parte mi è piaciuta e mi ha svelato un mondo che non conoscevo e perché il libro in generale è informativo.

Saviano continua a fare quello che gli riesce meglio, e che gli é comunque costato caro in termini di libertá personale: prende le storie delle famiglie mafiose, stavolta quelle legate al narcotraffico e sparse per il mondo, e le racconta come se fossero delle telenovele, agghiaccianti ma sempre storie e le storie si sa che vendono, specialmente se condite da una buona dose di violenza. Dai cartelli colombiani a quelli messicani, passando per gli Stati Uniti e la vecchia Unione Sovietica per arrivare all'Africa, tutte le strade sono ricoperte della splendida polvere bianca che ti fa sentire tanto bene, poi ti fa sentire, e poi basta.

Volevo leggere Zero Zero Zero da tanto tempo. L'ho divorato. Sarebbe un libro che tutti dovrebbero leggere, un libro che dovrebbe essere tradotto in tutte le lingue. E chissa' se tutti avessimo il coraggio di leggerlo con onestà. Vengo dal Messico, e un po' già sapevo/sentivo che la coca fosse ovunque e la base di tante piccole economie. Ora vedo che è la BASE dell'economia mondiale. Sono molto colpita e triste di essermi accorta quanto la coca sia diventata il moto e la base di tante vite, sia di chi ci lavora e di chi la consuma. E pensare che, in origine, le foglie vengono masticate per sconfiggere l'altitudine delle Ande.

"Conoscere è iniziare a cambiare" scrive Saviano al termine del libro. "Solo chi conosce queste storie puo' difendersi da queste storie. Solo chi le rqccontq ql figlio, all'amico, al marito, solo chi le porta nei luoghi pubblici, nei salotti, in aula, sta articolando una possibilità di resisteza".
E allora leggiamole, queste storie. Leggiamole e raccontiamole. Da qui parte il cambiamento.
