Reeve (born 1948) was sent to Broadmoor, a high security psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane, at age 15 for murder. Inside Broadmoor he studied, gaining a degree in sociology and became focussed on radical politics, lobbying for gay liberation and prisoner right. During this time he also strangled a fellow patient to death. After 17 years of imprisonment he escaped and remained at large for one year before being arrested in the Netherlands following a gun fight during which he killed a policeman. This autobiography tells of his childhood, time in Broadmoor, his escape, up to his time in Amsterdam with an appendix containing details of the gun fight.
