Fascinating blend of paranormal romance and Christian fiction!
“Be Not Afraid” is one of those books that pull readers into a mystery world from the first page. This story is a modern twist on the Christian novel, mixed with horror, evil, power, and faith. I must admit, it has been some time since I read a fantasy novel, and to my great surprise, it was a FANTASTIC read! I enjoyed the thrilling ride to the last page.
I must warn you, it is a chilling and bloodthirsty tale, filled with vampires and dark superpowers trying to destroy human faith. K. R. Morrison manages to give the reader a wild cocktail of serious events by mixing secrecy, darkness, and the purity of the unbroken human spirit, tested by a demon.
The battle began late one evening when a vampire approached Lydia, one of the spiritual characters, who is beautifully developed throughout the story. That night her entire world turned into turmoil and horror. Vlad, a blood-hungry vampire, is determined to break her spirit and destroy her faith. He wants her to convert to a bloodthirsty vampire just like him. Torturing Lydia, he eventfully breaks her body, but not her faith in God, which saves her from becoming a vicious destroyer of her own soul and the people around her. He has her blood and body, but not her sanity. She may be his slave, but her spirit remains free and devoted to her religion, the only light she has left in the darkness of evil. Her strong faith saves her from the danger of being completely transformed into a violent beast like Vlad and his cohorts.
In spite of her suffering and pain, Lydia desperately tries to escape her horrific ordeal. She finds support in the face of God, the local church, priest, and her family, who help her battle a devil. The actions in this story are strong and fast-paced. A heroic battle between the forces of good and evil keeps readers on their toes. Lydia, the church, and her family may look weaker than the demons, but they have something Vlad and his followers do not have—faith in God. However, Lydia keeps one secret…
The author beautifully lures readers into the terrifying battle between two forces, Christianity and evil, portraying the drama of great actions and scenes, while also showing the courage of ordinary people fighting an extraordinary war. Christianity and the Devil should never mix, but this story proves that strong faith and an unbroken spirit always win. Fascinating twist! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Let me be honest by saying this is not the type of book I generally read, but I was particularly drawn in by the cover. Once I sat down to read it, I was unable to put the book down reading it in one sitting. The author did not disappoint in the manner in which the story is written. The characters in the Bronson family as well as all the others in the tale are well developed. Descriptions of the setting are so lucid that the reader feels as if he were in the room experiencing what was happening. Hard to describe the genre of this book; it is a combination of horror, paranormal romance and Christian fiction.
In the beginning of the book, the reader meets Lydia Bronson who is a middle aged Christian woman who is happily married with two grown children. After leaving the office late one evening, her whole world is rapidly thrown into chaos when she is accosted by a vampire who imprisons and tortures her. She desperately tries to escape her horrible nightmare and eventually succeeds finding solace in the church of a local priest. Then suddenly things get very weird with the rest of Lydia's family. The second part of the book shifts to a war between the forces of light who have rescued Lydia and the demons of evil, along with the vampire, Vlad and his cohorts. A world-wide battle between the forces of good and evil is about to erupt; Lydia as well as her family will be tested and thrust into the center of the conflict. I will not reveal the outcome, but the reader can expect a wild ride!

Fans of Teric Darken’s horror novels will know what to expect from this dark Christian tale of horror by K. R. Morrison. Aspects of faith are clearly and convincingly told, offering the truth that God doesn’t protect us from every danger, but does indeed, if unexpectedly, answer prayer.
The story builds on a blend of Twilight with the everyday and middle age. Lydia is a convincing everywoman – no great heroine of life or of faith. But she faces challenges that blend darkness and light, leading to oceans of guilt and skies of forgiveness. When “[s]he crept down the hallway, noticing that her eyesight was immeasurably better in the dark than it used to be,” readers will know which way the darkness is flowing, but not how dark it will surely get. Still, Lydia will never be quite alone, and a Voice will comfort and guide her to exactly where she needs to be.
K. R. Morrison’s novel explores questions of salvation and freewill, destiny, angels and more, while wearing the weighty cloak of traditional horror. The story builds to a truly terrifying climax, while creating an image of real and natural family life, dialog filled with the everyday, and calls to Mass and worship combined with divine calls to wait and obey.
“Peace I leave with you. Do not fear.” Wise bishops, dark powers, dangerous forces, and powerful good stand arrayed at the end. Be Not Afraid is a slowly told tale, heavy on detail both natural and supernatural, accurate with very humanly distracted dialog, strong in faith, and haunting in terror. It’s a slow read, but offers plenty to enjoy and to think about.

The battle between good and evil wrapped up in a compellingly readable package.
This book proves that a story can have a strong moral message and still be a page turner. From the very opening chapter the reader is brought into the harrowing, but uplifting, account of how good people are forced to combat the evil that has beset the world since the dawn of time.
Lydia, a loving wife and mother, finds herself in a deadly perilous situation when she is abducted by a demon/vampire and kept prisoner in his nauseous lair. While in his clutches, she is used as his larder, (at least her blood is). The intention of her captor is to make her into one such as him, so she can serve as his bloodsucking spouse through all eternity. It is only her strong faith in her Saviour Jesus Christ that prevents her from going completely mad and bad, as a result of her terrible ordeal.
The abduction and torture of Lydia is only the start. The story widens out into an epic battle between the forces of good and evil, with Lydia and her family at the forefront of the conflict. The genius of the author is best shown in how she can portray the drama of great events against the background of ordinary people trying to go about their normal lives. When tested, these ordinary people prove themselves to have extraordinary capacities to combat the evil that is threatening to destroy their happiness.
I can sum up by saying this book is “Stephen King meets New Testament” and for that alone it deserves five stars.

Be Not Afraid - A Review
I will be the first to admit that vampire novels and other paranormal works are not usually at the top of my list to read. I have read some, but it has been a while. And no, I haven’t read the Twilight books or seen any of the movies. So, when one of my fellow authors offered up the chance to read her novel Be Not Afraid, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised.
The book opens with an office setting and a woman working late. She encounters Vlad, who kidnaps her and takes her to his lair where he tells her he has chosen her to be his eternal companion. Lydia, our hero, resists Vlad at every opportunity, calling upon her deep Christian faith to help her. What ensues is less typical vampire horror than a conflict between good and evil manifested in the flow of the conflict between Vlad and Lydia.
To be sure, there are some tense moments of horror, but they are used more for moving the story along and introducing the conflict than for the shock value of the horror.
This book is a rare blend of vampires, horror, and Christian fiction and is well worth the read!

To have faith and be drug through the dirt by the evils of this world, losing that faith and then being shown the way once again is the greatest trial of all to survive.
This is what the main character in K.R. Morrison’s “Be Not Afraid” – Lydia – and the entire family of Lydia goes through. Being a woman of faith, Lydia finds herself in a situation that even a person of faith cannot believe.
She is kidnapped by a vampire and turned into one, killed by the vampire, and… well…. I won’t ruin EVERYTHING. I can see where there could be an opening to continue the trials and tribulations of Lydia and her family for a long time to come.
While this is obviously a book that revolves around faith, there are enough elements from the fantasy and mythological realms that make it a very intriguing and enveloping read.
Whether or not you have faith of any kind, please take the time to pick it up and read it.

I do like the style of this author's writing, even when I don't agree with the subject matter.
Lydia has an unwelcome visitor one late evening at work and from that moment her life changes forever.
Vlad is a vampire and wants a new recruit. Lydia's strong faith in God does not save her, however, things are not always what they seem.
This was an unusual story, one told extremely well, but one that was a curious mix of Christian belief and vampire horror, certainly one about the forces of good v evil.
Being a non-believer makes me question this kind of dogma, although, I do think the author did a good job putting across her point in an entertaining way...her writing is a testament to her talent.
I may not agree, but I appreciate its message - it's always good to read other points of view and 'think'.

I really thought Kathy did a good job writing about the wickedness of Vampirism unlike Anne Rice or Stephanie Meyer. Although Be Not Afraid is more than that. I love how she writes a story about good versus evil. Vlad is not just a vampire. He is a demon who was sent from Hell to destroy people's lives. God chooses Lydia to be his instrument in ridding the earth of such wickedness. She sacrifice her own life for the lives of others including her own family. I never really thought a Christian could write about Vampires but she did an excellent job and she has inspired me to experiment with the paranormal fiction.

A surprising twist to the old story of good versus evil. The author took Christian teachings and brought them to life.
The protagonist, Lydia, is an ordinary woman until she faces an ancient evil.The author did a good job of maintaining the "ordinariness" of Lydia while the story develops with twists and surprises.

The biblical battle of good vs. evil is played out in modern day. Lydia, a working mother in suburban America, becomes the desire of Vlad the Vampire. Lydia fights for her life and with help from Jesus (who, from nowhere, appears throughout the book, much like the legendary hitchhiker of the nineteen seventies) wages battle ‘til the end. Be Not Afraid is a nice, at times spooky, read from K.R. Morrison.

Be Not Afraid is a marvelous story of Lydia’s struggle with dark forces. A woman whose life is peaceful suddenly faces dark forces that put her in great pain and trouble. Her entire family becomes the prey of a cunning and evil vampire—one that represents the devil himself. She has two choices—either to accept defeat or fight for the future of humanity against the dark forces that are after every human soul. The way the author depicted the classification and the love of Jesus made me emotional. The book was so good that I stayed awake until 1 a.m. reading it.
In other words, K.R. Morrison did an excellent job creating this wonderful masterpiece.

Let me start by saying that normally when such a novel takes a religious stance from the beginning I tend to be turned off from the book because there is a fine line between a religious character and an approach to a book that is borderline demanding that you believe in that same faith. I've come across it too many times to not have it set off warning bells. (not to say that I don't respect other religions, I just don't like having them thrust upon me aggressively) However, despite the character's strong religious beliefs, this book didn't have that particular forceful feel to it.
I gave this book a chance and I was greatly rewarded for it.
You can really feel Lydia’s pain, her helplessness in the beginning. She’s a strong character because her emotions are very real. That being said, she’s not about to give up, and that’s what made her so appealing to me. Despite having to ‘play the game’ so to speak, she’s resourceful and doing everything she can to thwart Vlad, even while she feels like it’s a losing battle she still doesn’t give up.
Even more inspiring is that her family didn’t give up on her. They continued to believe that she was alive out there somewhere.
When she returns with her faith still intact (something that I think was definitely tested in the circumstances), she finds herself trapped in a whole different situation, one she can't seem to shake off with Vlad still in the picture, doing everything in his power to torment her.
I'm not going to give away the whole storyline to you, but I will say that if you like vampire books and don't mind the religious side of things then please give this book a read. Its well written and has something, which, to me, is the most important aspect of a book, which is the soul of the author.
The most important judgement of a book, in my opinion, isn't grammar, spelling, genre, or anything like that, its how much of the author's heart is in the story. The connection is very deep in this story.

Be Not Afraid isn't your typical vampire book. The vampire character is more Dracula than Edward. The story combines a Christian faith element with a classic style vampire. The story starts with Lydia, a very spiritual family woman, working late in a regular nine-to-five job. Just as she's ready to call it a night, she's suddenly being stalked by a strange man with no reflection.
The story goes quickly from there, Lydia is kidnapped by Vlad, the vampire, and turned into a vampire herself. Lydia struggles to maintain her faith in God while controlling her blood-lust, and desire to become a vampire.
Early in the story, and with the help of a priest, Lydia is able to overcome the curse and become cured. She goes home, desperate to forget her ordeal and move forward with her life and her family. However, her daughter Trudy, starts displaying odd behavior. A fascination with blood, mysterious mosquito bites on her neck, and a new boyfriend.
Also, Lydia's husband falls off the grid. And when Trudy brings her new boyfriend home, Lydia is horrified to be faced with none other than Vlad himself. Now Lydia has to figure out how to save her family from Vlad before anyone is killed.
You have to read it to see if Faith or Evil prevails, but I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
This genre is not my usual reading material. I almost never read Christian fiction or vampire books, however I will say this book is a well written, on the edge of your seat kind of story, especially if you enjoy this type of fiction.
I would definitely read more from this author.

I have read a few vampire novels in my day. But, I had yet to read a Christianity-based horror novel involving vampires. Sure, the average vampire novel contains some religious elements (Holy water being the kryptonite for vamps, etc). But, this novel transcended the basic myths of vampires, taking it to a demonic level; which seems more plausible( if at all could be) from a Christian stand point. It was intriguing how the author utilized scripture from the Bible to support her storyline; I liked it! I appreciated the development of Vlad's and Lydia's interaction. Vlad, the vampire, was what I envision a vampire to be...evil. Not what our culture has turned vampires into. Vlad is a predator in every way with Lydia. Lydia's character is a devout Christian who is being stalked by Vlad.
I would recommend a recover of this book
to the author. The cover of a book
speaks volumes. When I saw the cover and
then read the book, I didn't see the
spiritual connection that could have
been utilized in the cover of this one. So much symbolism in the book could lend it self to a new and fresh cover.
I do not want to spoil the story for future readers, but I will say that from the get go, this books sweeps you into Lydia's nightmare of being prey to Vlad. The storyline and plot expand at a quick pace, making it really easy to get pulled in to this book!

been utilized in the cover of this one. So much symbolism in the book could lend it self to a new and fresh cover.
I do not want to spoil the story for future readers, but I will say that from the get go, this books sweeps you into Lydia's nightmare of being prey to Vlad. The storyline and plot expand at a quick pace, making it really easy to get pulled in to this book!

This book is very different from the usual novels I read. Sometimes trying something different can be a wonderful thing. This was definitely the case with Be Not Afraid. This is definitely not your standard vampire novel! In this novel its the classic good vs. evil in a way that I have not previously experienced. God vs. Vlad using Lydia as their common factor.
There is a wonderful theme that prevails in this book. No matter what comes at you, trust in God and you will be just fine. Lydia definitely experiences some terrible things that truly test her faith. Yet she keeps the faith. Even when you think she and her family are safe the evil of Vlad rears its ugly head and comes back with a vengeance.
This book will keep the readers on their seats from the first word to the last! If you are looking for a bone chilling, spine tingling, keep you on the edge of your seat novel I highly suggest reading this one. You will not be disappointed.

A vampire novel that incorporates Christianity, it is mentioned on every page! To be brutal it did not bring anything new to the table.
The first few pages, if I'm honest, did not hook me, and the entire book was tedious. But, I love vampires so thought I'd stick with it. I had hoped it would offer something different. I'm still waiting for someone to knock my socks off with a good, modern vampire novel.
To say it is a horror novel would be very strong. It is an easy read and did little to scare me. I found myself laughing at the main character, Lydia, meeting a gentleman called "Vlad" and noticing he had no reflection by page 13.
The description is not good enough to set a scene or bring any tension to the read.
The book might work for the young adult audience and not a Vampire fan, as I am. The strong Christian tone could be used as a marketing tool. I am sure it will appeal to some, particularly as Jesus makes an appearance. It just isn't to my tastes.

What a new concept!! I’ve read a few vampire books and they all seem to travel the same road, but this one took a new path by incorporating God as huge part of it. Taking the classic, and yet touchy subject, of good vs. evil, the author creates a well-rounded story that follows Lydia, an average woman just trying to live her life, through a battle with Vlad, a vampire who ‘s only goal is to change her, and the tumultuous relationship that surrounds them.
When she is saved by God and the angels, and manages to escape, it’s only a matter of time before Vlad finds her and her family. I found it to be well written, and kept me on the edge of my seat, and a little freaked out definitely (validating that it is in fact a horror story). I would recommend it to Christian horror fans who have an open mind to this kind of story.

Be Not Afraid
Be Not Afraid is a paranormal spiritual warfare novel. K.R. Morrison shows in this book that just attending church does not make you a believer and faith is not something you can take lightly. Although I typically am not a fan of vampire books, this book is using the vampire to show how demons come in all forms and the demons don't take rejection well. Where Gods love is forgiving and even when he is rejected by his children he will forgive and welcome them back with loving open arms, protecting His children even if it doesn't seem like He is.

The biblical battle of good vs. evil is played out in modern day. Lydia, a working mother in suburban America, becomes the desire of Vlad the Vampire. Lydia fights for her life and with Jesus’ (much like the legendary hitchhiker of the nineteen seventies appearing throughout the book from nowhere) help, the battle wages battle ‘til the end. Be Not Afraid is a nice, at times spooky, read from K.R. Morrison.

This book is truly unique. The author has gone to great lengths to explain the what if? of the plot and the scenario. Part horror, part Christian-fiction and part Vampire - the book appeals to a wide audience. If for no other reason than to answer What does a Vampire have to do with God? it's worth a look. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised. I was.

Well, this is certainly not a book to read late at night with the wind howling outside in the trees, cats shrieking, all…alone. Right from the first page I was hooked. It’s a most compelling read. It’s a frightening read. But it’s also a great read. I’ve not yet read a story of vampires versus our Christian belief, so it was most intriguing for me.

Very well written and I would absolutely read another book written by K.R. Morrison! I like the Vampire Genre and I have read my fair share, that being said I prefer my Vampires more on the thriller sexy side less on the Horror side. The lead character Lydia is strong in beliefs and strong self preservation, she is also in for the fight of her life for good versus evil.
