learning the health secrets that allowed our ancestors to live long, disease-free lives

Crap. Modern humans have longer lifespans on average, and disease-free is unsupported by any science. The contrary, all the mummies we've studied show people riddled with illnesses, parasites, and congenital problems, as do the skeletons we've studied, as do the medical records of Civil War vets.

I gave this book a chance because a well-meaning family member recommended it to me after I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. This book is basically a plug for Garden of Life supplements and most of the book is about the author's supplement line that he believes helped to cure his Crohn's. It goes really into depth about the process he went through to develop this supplement line, but besides taking his supplements, it didn't really offer much advice for dealing with Crohn's.

Patient Heal Thyself: A Remarkable Health Program Combining Ancient Wisdom with Groundbreaking Clinical Research is an excellent read. It is not boring or stuffy. I learned a lot while reading this book. Jordan Rubin, the author, sincerely compassionately explains how to eat healthfully, turn around health conditions through one's diet, as well as how to maintain good overall health. I myself have found better health from following the wisdom of eating taught in this great book and for this am very grateful. Highly recommend!

While I did not agree with everything in this book, it did convince me that many, many modern-day illnesses can be curbed with a more healthful diet. When I read this ten years ago, it started me on a journey away from processed foods. I've read more helpful books since then, but this one got me started.

A good book but so many cut and paste sections. Seems like you have to take too many supplements.

Not a fan of this book. I felt like it was ploy to get the reader to buy all the supplements, but I suppose if it works for people that's great.

Patient Heal Thyself is Amazing!

This is an amazing book. Not only does it give you the information on getting healthy but also how to stay healthy! Many studies are shared backing up what is being taught! Then on top of that he gives you the information needed to get the food and things you need to be successful at healing your body to live a long and productive life! Thank you! Donna M Wisconsin

Title is a bit weird - but this is a man’s very inspiring account of his path from terminal Crohn’s at age 19 to full health at age 21. He’s in his 40s now, married with children and started a major health company to help others - well known in health food stores like Whole Foods “Garden of Life” - I never knew the founder or his story but it’s pretty compelling.

Full of information. I found the Homeostatic soil organisms interesting and his story a dramatic example of the power of the body to heal. This book gives me hope. This book is very in depth and I found myself skipping over parts and reading the parts that applied to me.

Patient heal yourself

This book was not at all like I expected. I wanted scenarios or examples. The back part of the book was so repetitive. It seemed like a commercial. It's hard to take a book seriously when there are probably100 or more typos.

Jordan Rubin is à naturopathic NMD, he overcame Crohn’s Disease 20 years ago and is still symptom free. This book is his story and the journey he has been on, his recommendations are in my view excellent. I took lots of notes because I listened to the book.

Jordan's story about everything he went through to overcome Chron's disease is very detailed and lets us know how quickly life can change. I greatly appreciate all the very useful information about the Maker's Diet, but he churns it out over and over again. The book could have been 30 pages shorter. Jordan wrote about issues such as Attention Deficit Disorder and how children can follow the Maker's Diet to get over ADD. Then he writes about a lot of other disorders and diseases and lists the same things to eat and drink multiple times. All he had to do was list all the stuff on the diet once and say "it cures everything under the sun."

I also don't think Jordan should claim that the Maker's Diet can put an end to spousal abuse. A man who abuses his wife or girlfriend has to go through a lot of counseling and soul searching for it to end. I don't think drinking goat's milk and eating grass-fed meat will put an end to domestic violence.

This was still a valuable book to read and is a good resource for anyone suffering from a condition that leaves doctors scratching their heads.

As a Celiac this book prompted me to think more seriously about greens, and digestive health on the whole. It was an interesting concept that set me on the road of experimentation.

I tried his Perfect Food supplement - beware that the author uses his Chrone disease personal experience to market a canned buffet of different, expensive, powdered health remedies... The Perfect Food uses wheat, oat and rye grasses which are supposedly gluten-free, a scary concept for my intestines, along the standard "green" supplements, and probiotics, and it basically de-toxed me for three weeks. I mix it in OJ. I released a ton of crap (literally), thirst for water (good), am less hungry and I released 4 lbs in the process. I feel tired and can't tell if it is a possible Celiac response or just my life. Everyone notices a difference in the way I look, and now I crave the drink. Placebo? Perhaps. It makes my super-sensitive-celiac son very sick - I don't think it is totally gluten free.

Good read for the concept.

My journey of health, nutrition and wellness all began with a friend who was into detoxing and that sparked the idea that our bodies are loaded with chemicals making us sick, fat and killing us. Doctors today do not understand that the body can be healed through food, good, clean, organic food. And we don't need pills and injections, unnecessary surgeries and all the other misdiagnoses and mistreatments to fix what ails us. We are not meant to be used as guinea pigs for science and allopathic medicine, or to line the pockets of "Big Pharma" and big business and food industries. We are being led astray to keep the fat cats fat with money while we fall sick to dis-ease and illness. The cure is in the food we eat, and not a diet, but good balance and good nutrition. It is simple common sense. When we understand the biology of our body, then we have the power to "heal thyself"....great read. Highly recommend this book. One man's comeback story that will shake you awake, for sure.

I liked this book. I wouldn't say I enjoyed this book, but I liked it. I wish I could follow what it says but we just don't have the money to eat like it wants me to, like I know I should. Finances will not allow it. We eat way to much bread and pasta and junk food. We do eat mostly chicken as our meat, but we could do better with that as well. We can't afford organic anything, though we know it is better for us. I am overweight and most everyone in my family is having intestinal problems of one kind or another on a rotating basis.

"No matter what health challenges plague you today, there is hope for an answer. It's time to get armed with powerful truths from our Creator."

Yes, it is. I wish I could do better. I am hoping for better days for us all.

I wanted to learn more about digestive health and this was the only book the library had. For me it was a page-turner full of excellent cutting-edge research mingled with infomercial for Garden of Life nutritional supplements. I wish I could have had the health info without the product info, but it was still interesting and the products featured are high quality for those in the market for supplements.

This book got a little too technical or medical in some places, but I did glean some great things from his experience with Crone's Disease.

He talks in a few spots about how gut health is the foundation to our entire well-being and immune system. It makes so much sense, and after I saw the connection it just boggled my mind of how much illness and disease can be traced to this.

This is an interesting story of a man who became so sick everyone thought he was dying and the doctors gave him no hope. He started experimenting with his diet and discovered some foods were killing him. He ended up healing himself and offers his discoveries to anyone who may suffer similar problems.

I have read The maker's Diet several times and got this book from a friend. I felt like there was a lot of hype over his own line of probiotics and various other supplements, which was a little off-putting. I don't like feeling like I'm being sol on something. However, I do appreciate his dietary suggestions and lists of therapeutic foods.

This book was literally a life changer! My son was diagnosed at 3 with Ulcerative Colitis. The ancient soil organisms totally changed things up for him. There were so many really neat ideas in this book that have shaped lots of what I believe. I am constantly learning and honing my natural healing techniques. Excellent!! I LOVE the bone broth recipe.
