Don’t you love it when someone who is 56 years old tries to tell you what you should do when you’re 26? I mean, c’mon! They’re THIRTY years older than you. This is not to say you can’t learn something from your elders (in fact, I think some people have much too little respect for their elders and for history and what we can learn from them and the past).
Actually, just so you don’t think I’m totally nuts, I’ll mention some books, biographies, movies, podcasts, blogs, and advice I’ve consumed in the last 30 days from people that are older than me. And some of them are older than 56, too.
But, let me first remind you why you clicked on and downloaded this e-book. You wanted something quick-to-grasp, easy to implement, that produced measurable results. Oftentimes the results will come quickly. But more on measuring your outcomes later. Many famous non-26-year-olds have said it, but perhaps Peter Drucker said it “What gets measured gets managed.”
One note on authority. I don’t have any. Not in the traditional sense. But I’m not here to talk about traditions. I’m 26. You’re 26. Or 22, or 28. But if you’re 26, let me just mention that I have about a 2/3 chance of being older than you. That is, I’ve now experienced about 2/3 of my time as a 26-year-old. That’ about all the authority I have on that.
As for the life-hacking experience, I also have none in the traditional sense. But I did study, live, and work in 11 cities on three continents before I turned 19, and travelled to many others. Since then, I’ve experimented with productivity and lifestyle design and writing (here’s a video of me writing this book in one day) and fitness and health and sports and music. I’ll mention a small part of that in the pages that follow, but I’ll focus on my months in the 26-year-old range, because that’s what is relevant to you. In that time (less than a year), I placed 17th/65 in my first USA Memory Championship, authored two other e-books, started writing a novel, started a blog on metalearning, published an iPhone game, and started several other small projects.
